I went to school with Larnell! So fun to now watch the world discover what we were fortunate enough to witness every day. He's also the nicest guy and super humble. He knew he was the best, but never acted above anyone and was always willing to help us in music class or accompany any project etc. So happy for him!
And it's so important that the masters are willing to be teachers, that they are for real keen on passing the torch. Because in the end, it must be passed.
Larnell has been one of those masterful drummers who's been under the popular radar and has had a slow rise to the consciousness of many long time fans of drumming, including me... But it is so cool to see him really starting to be regarded as one of the modern greats. More and more people are boarding the Larnell train; because it's a first class cabin to a fantastic destination.
I only just discovered this guy 10 minutes and 22 seconds ago and I'm prepared to say he's probably among the very top drummers I've ever witnessed if not the top
Next stop: Nate Smith. One of the handful of guys that have changed the game. Also a Snarky connection and a Vulfpeck connection - you can’t ignore that.
I don’t see too many drummers maintain the groove in a solo… Larnell is one of few I’ve seen AMPLIFY the groove in his solo… incredible, truly one of the greats of our time
that city lights solo is like a magic trick, sleight of hand. there are so many hits going on, the time shifts, you just don't see his hands doing it all yet you hear it, and it's all perfect, there isn't a single hit out of time. i've never heard anything like this man. Mad mad respect.
Sooooo many times when crazy creative drummers go nuts, I start to lose the feeling of the groove. With Larnell it only get stronger and more intense. This man is a powerhouse!
I dont know anything about drums and drummers... I listen 80 deep house and trance 😏 .... but that is the most emotional drumming I ever heard . Larnell is a magician

I can’t say I’ve seen a more musical drummer. And technique second to nobody that I’ve seen. Just wow. I’m almost in tears.

Just hearing that City Lights solo for the first time and I watched it on repeat like 5 times. Outstanding, probably one of my favourite drum solos purely from a musical standpoint. Actually in awe
Didn't Larnell Lewis said that for his performance with Snarky Puppy he learned the songs just by listening to it during his flight to the gig ? I mean this is mental. I've never seen such a talented musician. What a monster.
I know Larnell Lewis is consummate with western drumming styles, but I never knew he was so masterful in interpreting African drumming styles. What a beast!!!! 🤯🤯🥵🙌🏽
Never in my life thought throwing away the sticks and slapping the cymbals barehanded would be this badass and cool but here I am, the drum god proving this mere mortal all wrong.

I have definitely been impressed with drummers but this guy is different. Just by watching the faces of people reacting in this video tells me so much! I’m so glad this amazing human being exists and is sharing his gift with the world. What a moment! 🤍

What a beautiful comment! And I understand the moved to tears part too.....Larnell is one of the greats of our time, and I feel incredibly lucky, grateful, humbled and mind blown away by what he offers to us. He's a gem
I wish Snarky Puppy would release the entire video footage of We Like It Here with the camera just focused on Larnell Lewis. That would be a treat to watch!

There are no "Top 5 Drum Moments" of Larnell Lewis. Larnell Lewis ist a living drum moment himself everytime he gets closer than three feet to any sort of drum.
I always count the city lights solo wrong, my mind tricking me into thinking the one is on the first accent, but no, it’s the 3rd beat of an 11/8 time signature.
Going down the LL train since YT recommended the Metallica cover and damn, I'm not even a drum guy but this dude is on another level. His use of in ear monitors (fancy for fancy earbuds) was a hint you have to listen to this with good headphones. While the #3 was indeed magical, the #2 Forgotten Ones was something along the line of a psychedelic trip with a drum set. This dude is the dude
Partially because I'm sick and currently puking my guts out.... but I got chills. Em's a rap go, Larnell, YOU are a drum God. Speed, flash, control, volume excellent feet.... it's a great experience watching him play.
Such an amazing drummer ! I got hooked since I first heard him at "snarky puppy's 'we like it here'" performance in my home city. But.... I don't know if anyone else noticed, but he also seems to have an impeccable, flexible and lush skin, as if it didn't age a day since he was a baby. Some people are blessed in so many ways... :-)
