yes for Terri Lyne Carrington and Dave Weckl - but a huge miss is not to put Gary Novak here! personally he´s my absolute No.1 - not still repetitive fills (except Terry Lyne here) .... the rest is well known ..... but Novak is monster - with dynamics, chops, displacement, uniqueness
@ - oh please, not this typical answer, please listen to him - i met him several times and trying to share to knowledge about him/his records … then it’s up to you
I don't agree with you, for example two trumpet players are looking for a job, either as a band musician or a teacher, guess who they will give the position to the one who is more prepared on the trumpet and has more knowledge. music is sacred and must be performed with excellence
I agree wholeheartedly that you left out two of the best in Billy Cobham and Lenny White. Additionally, I would say that neglecting to consider Virgil Donati and Marco Minneman was a huge oversight.
Virgil Donati, Thomas Lang, Marco Minneman, just to name a few, are technically some of the best drummers alive, but there’s a reason why Steve Gadd gets all of the gigs with the world’s greatest musicians. There’s a reason why Dave Weckl, Vinny Colaiuta, and so many others are filling the drum chairs with the best jazz musicians in the world. If I want to see pure technical skill, I’ll go see any band with Virgil Donati; he’s the attraction. But you’re not going to find him in any of the top jazz ensembles because he would be a bad fit. I consider him more of an exhibition drummer.
@@kcorpora1 I started drums in the 80s what about you ? There's no GOAT in music it's not a competition that's nonsense to pretend there's a drummer standing above all the other drummers, too many great drummers, it's childish and useless to try to compare different styles, different techniques, different eras, etc. (Weckl is one of my favorite drummer btw)
@@Martin_Bernard sorry, sent to the wrong person. It was suppose to be for the guy who said Weckl is the GOAT. Weckl is one of the best but he is not the GOAT!
Hello Everyone (& Ivan). I've read all the comments. Yes , so many Great players not mentioned-from Bill Bruford to Rodney Holmes & so many more - too many to list.
Hello, this comment is addressed to everyone who said why I didn't put Gary Novak, Lenny White, Billy Cobham on the list. The reason is because it is a top 5, a very small list where only the best and most influential enter. and in my opinion there are better drummers than what you mention that I don't add to the list like steve gadd for example. For those who say that there is no best in the world or number one, they are wrong. In all areas of art, virtues, and sport there will always be one more outstanding. best artist (Michael Jackson), best footballer (messi), best boxer (Muhammad Ali) best jazz fussion drummers Dave Weckl, best jazz bassist Victor Wooten. take into account to make this list -influence on jazz -recorded album -artists with whom you have collaborated -virtuosity on the instrument - didactic contributions for teaching the instrument Grammy Awards won. 😊
Meraviglia drummers !! Dave lo preferisco con Chic Corea acoustic band o la tarda Dave W. band (2006->>) Manca Simon Phillips !!! 😁 comunque TANTA roba !!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
All the people mentioned in the comments plus, Steve Gadd, Marvin Smitty Smith, Tom Brechtlein, Joel Rosenblatt, Marc Walker, Ritchie Morales, Julio Baretto, Billy Kilson, Nate Smith, Keith Carlock, Zac Danziger, Omar Hakim, Paul Wetico, Ricky Lawson, Will Kennedy, Peter Erskine, Steve Jordan, Eric Gravatt, Alex Acuna, Steve Ferrone, Marc Giuliana, Alphonso Mouzon, Nate Wood, and on and on and on. Come on, what a stupid ranking!
When Hernandez plays the cowbell pedal how is there no bounce after he takes his foot off? The beater returns to starting position but then doesn’t move.
There are so many great, inventive but most importantly musical drummers in the jazz fusion field in the 1970s that are almost forgotten and overshadowed by many in this video. Whatever, who gives a fuck.
These lists are almost always shit, and for one reason…. They should always include “fine print” stating that lists like these are subjective. Having said that, Vinnie as #3 is ridiculous. 🤣
Truthfully there cannot be a best because they are all so wonderfully gifted .
I agree but nowdays people are obsessed by creating ranking lists and arguing which one is the GOAT
Marshall is incredible, too. So many to choose from.
Billy Cobham in his prime was awesome.
Yo, watch your mouth, bro. Billy Cobham was, is, and always will be awesome.
Love Chris Almond's drumming on "Caribe" with Michel Camilo!
Yes the symbiosis between the two in that piece is astounding.

While there are bunch of clones out here these days, one thing those legends have in common is that they have their own characters.

@@Martin_Bernardi totally agree!
People who make competition out of music are not worthy the music.. the musicians they are all no. 1

@paulpalansky4852 that's true..just grateful for all the great talents. No matter the lane..
I've never seen the level of "independence" like Horacio Hdz. Dang.. he sounded like 3 guys. Thanks for the post.

Vinnie colaiuta y dave weckl💯
Big four fusion drummers : Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, Alphonse Mouzon, Lenny White

Vinnie est le plus grand batteur de tous les temps personne n’a été aussi loin rythmiquement!!!!
ça n'existe pas un "plus grand batteur de tous les temps"
Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Gary Novak. Then the rest
Most of the guys on your list would probably say Billy or Tony. Many would also mention Gadd and Lenny White❤
