Shit! I'm new to the 4 Runner scene. Just ordered a TRD ORP and was told by the salesman that a Pro Roof Rack was not available because the dealership would need to drill holes in the top to install. Bullshit. Guess I'll be sharing this video with them. Thanks for the Info !
I am also new to the 4Runner scene and also just ordered my TRD ORP and the salesman told me that they couldn't install it but the service team would do it, but recommended I just do it myself in order to skip on the premium hourly rate for Toyota to do it. He did not mention anything about having to drill new holes in the top to install it. Hoping that is not the case. Have you heard anything more from who you ordered from on this?
Thanks man, been waiting for a trd pro roof install video! Bought mines like 6 months ago but wasn’t sure how to do it. Now I can finally get it done. Big ups on the very straight forward video! You got a new subscriber!!!
Thanks for the video. I recently got a TRD PRO and didn't give much thought into the roof rack. The way you explained the use cases makes me happy I got the TRD PRO roof rack now. Our needs are similar to yours. BTW, love the old school civic in the garage!
Nicely done! Informative, detailed, and succinct. Appreciate your followup to the install details with your rationale for choosing this rack . . . Again, nicely done. 👍🤙
Great Video. I loved your explanation and I love the style of the TRD Rack and how it fits. To tell you the truth this rack was not in my options but I can say now that it will be my first option.
Stumbled upon your page. Good content and good amount of info without being over wordy. I’ll come back for more videos. Keep it up
Thank you so much for your video! It was a great help and gave me the confidence to do it myself instead of paying the dealership crazy money for something so easy!
I'm getting the Pro rack too. It's rugged looking but not completely ridiculous. Besides, I know for sure that everything will line up.
Great video. Problem with OEM TRD Pro rack is they are so tall and depending on what your cargo is you might have issues pulling into a parking garage. I’m actually pulling mine off and going with a low profile Westcott rack. Great job with step by step video for those that are curious on how the rack is bolted on.
Thanks guys. Video was super helpful. I also had to buy the 4 brackets, as they don’t come with the roof rack set.
thank you so much man, great explanation and well put together. straight to the point. i ll be keeping an eye out for further mods assistance vids :)
Thanks brotha just got my 2021 trd off road and I’m gonna get me the pro roof rack. Appreciate the tutorial
That's a clean garage setup man 👍
My rack will be here today! Yay! Thank you for this video! 2019 sr5 with the xp predator package. I needed the 3rd row option so I couldn’t get the pro but I need a rack to haul coolers and crap. I wanted the Baja full length mesh basket but I got to thinking about how hard it would be to clean under
Thanks for the video, exactly what I needed
First winter season with my 4Runner and I experienced the exact same issue with the bindings hitting the roof 😂 I have the same ski rack as well and it was never an issue with my previous cars since the crossbars sat high enough off the roof
Awesome man. Appreciated. Good stuff and we’ll done
please make another video shows that how you are going to put stuff on top of that roof rack.
Please do an install of how you are putting on your ski racks
I want to add some to my pro rack!
You never heard of tying down your stuff ?
Nice work
Thanks for the help dude.
I’m really waiting for this channel to just take off to a milli subs
Thanks so much for the support!!
Yo that garage is fucking dope great set up!
Thanks for the video. I was curious what you use to attach the snowboards to this rack? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the video! You talk about how you connect snowboard racks to this roof rack, but I am not sure how to do it. Any advice? I cannot find anything online. Just want to make sure I can put my snowboards on the TRD roof rack without uninstalling it. THANK YOU! We also have the sun roof, so I am just not sure how it works.
Thanks for the video! Your explanation of why you went with that rack totally matches mine so that solidifies my decision, makes total sense. You had mentioned using a t-40 torx bit. Did that come with the rack assembly or did you have that already. And did you purchase that directly from Toyota or somewhere else and did it come with instructions to install. Your video was great and I have saved it just wondering lol.
Very cool - looks like it bolts right in. Did you have to cut any of the weather stripping back?
Thanks. I'm trying to decide if we want the Gobi Rack or just keep the Yakima Rails with the Yakima Cargo box. Thanks for this and your reason for this rack
Glad we can help! don't be afraid to take your time with the decision, it's a pricey investment! take whatever fits your needs the best, all the articles and writeups are all based on personal preference, so do what fits you!
That is helpful. What are the measurements for the storage area of the roof rack? I am trying to figure out what I can fit in one of these.
Thanks for the video bro, but quick question? Can the ladder be added ?
Was all the hardware included or did you have to buy additional hardware for it? Great video by the way. Thanks.
Hey, thanks for this video. I have been meaning to install one of these on my 2018-SR5. Question: is this rack made only for TRD or would it also fit the bolt pattern of the SR5? I have seen it on Amazon but they don't specify this.Thank you and great job on your install. You guys are PRO's both on the install and also explaining the process! (So cool your dad is helping!!)
Great video, very helpful! Can you give the information on where you purchased and details please
I’ve been watching other videos. As you mentioned many people go with Prinsu etc, but since this is an OEM and installs directly without modifications. How well sealed is it? I’m worried about it leaking into the cab due to not fitting exactly. I didn’t see you put silicone or anything like that. Thank you!
What types of accessories are you going to mount to it? Is it easy to move and adjust the cross bars? I have a Thule ski rack and Thule box - just curious if they will work with this. Thanks!
Are you planning to install off road lights to this roof rack? And any ideas on how ?
Nice video - I am probably going to lose my TRD roof rack as I really just don't need it, and the removal procedure looks to be about the same. What holds the clip in place with both bolts removed?
Hi this is Greg in Michigan! I Purchased a set of cross bars shaped like airplane wings which I assumed would be quite. They were not! I have the TRD OFF-ROAD Premier so I have a moon roof too! I returned my cross bars and was thinking about getting a TRD PRO roof rack like you did here. I don't need a full rack either and the short rack will suit me fine. My question to you is does it make any wind noises now that you have it on? I didn't see you install a wind flange on the front that I see on many racks for stopping any wind noises. Maybe you have one now as I know you put this video out over a year now. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this as you've ran with it for a while now! Thanks Greg😎🤙
Found a trd roof rack for 200 on offer up, everybody else is selling for 500+.
I love they way it looks
Just installed mine and was curious, do you think you would need to drop some silicone in the 8 T40 bolts to prevent any leakage? Or has that been a non issue?
I wonder how they will hold up nowadays. I had to repaint most of my former TRD pro's roof rack from 2019. The cross members lost almost all of the paint on top without ever being used.
Thanks for this video! Exactly what I needed to see before installing a 2019 Trd Pro Roof Rack that I got for $300 CAD for my 2021 Trd Off Road! Ordered a hardware kit (part number: PT278-35130-HW) and brackets (part number: 63185-0R010). For fellow Runner owners, take note that the brackets are sold individually, so make sure you guys order 4 pieces, and the hardware kit, obviously a kit.
I had a dilemma in choosing a roof rack for my Runner, between Prinsu, Gobi, and OEM Trd Off Road roof racks. I decided to pull the trigger on the OEM, I have the same reasons as you, especially I'm not ready to put a roof tent yet. This roof rack in my opinion is 60 percent for looks, 40 percent for use, as it only have a maximum weight to use on (not sure how much weight).
Quick question, do you happen to know if we need to torque it? Or just hand torque feel it? Lol. Anyhow, great video!
Hello! Glad we can help out! I agree with the 60/40 rule for our specific use case. I know other's would disagree because the prefer a roof tent or similar room mounted devices, but for us, that just isn't the case! I believe the max weight capacity of the Pro rack is actually slightly less than the stock one unfortunately due to the higher mounting points of the cross bars. But so long as you're not lugging bricks of gold, shibby fine haha!
And to your question of torque, I am sure there is a factory torque spec. We used our calibrated elbows, shook it and said "that's not goin anywhere"
lol but in all seriousness, it is not a load bearing piece where if it were to compromise, it would put someone at danger. So we didn't find the need to over torque the bolts. If we had to stand up there, we would definitely look into torque specs, however, at most, a snow board or a cooler or a bike is up there, and they frankly don't create enough drag for us to worry about the bolts backing out and ripping out the rack! Hope this helped :))
I’ve heard the same thing. I’m not exactly sure, we used the 4Runner kit that came with the rack. I wouldn’t be surprised if it works! It’s just some standard torx bolts. It would maybe be the brackets that differ, but done quote me on that, someone probably has to have done a forum write up on that already :))
Agreed on the looks vs use case part. I also hear its a lot easier to clean and maintain swell.
Damn, where can I get this for a similar price? The cheapest I see OEM new was somewhere around 800 online.
Hook up a fellow Canuck.
great great vid
Did you put RTV on the bolts to make sure it doesnt leak?
Any issue driving with a trd roof rack on top? Does it make any weird noise? Great video btw!
I got the rack today and assembled it. I don’t wanna remove the other rack if I need to purchase those brackets. Are they under the original rack or will I need to purchase them?
Hi. Aside from the roof rack part PT278-89190. What other part number do I need for the install ? And how much torque did you apply on the socket to screw on ? Thx
One question, how wide and long is what you installed, I want to adapt it to another car but I want to see if the size works on mine, thanks
Are the mountain brackets already on with the oem rack or do they come with the hardware kit in the pro rack?
I bought a pro rack off marketplace, but the mounting brackets didn’t come with it..
Would you be able to install the rack with out those black clips ? I bought mine used and the guy didn’t have those to give me with the rack
Where did you get this? I have bought a poor knock off that isn't as good as this one but it was the only one I could find.
Hey ca in put a rooftop tent in this rack?
Did you order the roof rack from a dealer?, and if so, did it come with all the brackets and hardware?
How do you move the cross bars? From basket? Mine are on top I want to move them to the bottom
where did you get the install kit ?
what’s the latest on this rack? Do you still recommend it?
Does this need to be torqued down to spec at all?
How is the quality of the roof rack??
I just installed a TRD roof rack on my SR5 and I am experiencing a lot of wind noise, I previously owned an FJ with a similar roof rack but never had that loud wind noise. Is it the cross bars? Do cross bars need to be in specific locations?
Can you add a link to the rack you bought in the description? Do you recommend this product?
How much for the black roof rails ?
Thanks.
Where you guys getting these racks from?
Did you get your rack from Toyota? I've see several knock-offs that look like OEM, but their reviews from the install were not good. Thanks.
Awesome video man! Do you have a SR5 or Off road?
TRD Off road premium :))
Will that rod rack fit on a 2011 sr5 4runner?
Where can I order one from
I recently bought a Trd roof rack but doesn’t come with the brackets. Do I need the brackets?
Did you sell the old
Roof racks?
Dose the pro fit on off-road models
Where did you buy that rack from?
How many pounds of torque ?
How did you buy a TRD PRO roof rack? The few local dealer would not sell the rack to me because I didn’t have a TRD PRO.
Hi there, thank you for the video. Very helpful 👏👏. I just got a deal on a used one but no hardware included. Do you happen to know the parts or hardware that I need? Thank you very much for your help!
Bought the roof rack bolt kit for an FJ for about $20 at the toyota dealer. It's the same bolts and washers as the 4runner but almost $80 less than if I ordered for the 4runner.
4:05 cheap shot on sr5 owners cheap shot my dude, anyways love the video brother 💪
I have an SR5 premium and my roof rails are silver. Was it supposed to come with black?
@@sassonfard no sr5’s comes with silver, in the video the rails they removed (trd off-road) was black, that’s why they were offering sr5 owners if they want black ones.
@@sassonfard I have an SR5P as well and I have it in nautical blue with silver rails
Did the hardware came with the rack? I bought a used one and I can’t find the brackets and the foam gasket
Ur sol man, go to home depot and figure it out
I don’t think you need the brackets. I just got a brand new one from Toyota and it didn’t come with the brackets. Seemed to go on just fine.
Where did you buy the rack? eBay?
Hello! we got ours from our local dealership! :)
Do you have a link where I can get an oem rack for a decent price? I found some after market ones on eBay with reviews trashing the fit and finish.
Hello! I don't have a specific link unfortunately, we purchased ours from our local dealer, We didn't want to risk dodgy build quality by purchasing third party as you mentioned above - I know it can get pricey OEM, but our rationale is that we use it all the time in very intense conditions, the so the extra investment is worth in rather than having to buy multiple reps that just end up trashed :)) hope that can somewhat help!
Yes that is helpful. I found a couple dealerships that I can get if from out of state. Unfortunately the one in my state wants a vin of a trd pro to sell it to me. Same goes for the Toyota garnish from the pro.
@@dgriffo1369 just find some trd pros for sale and use their vin number :)
Yea, I’ve heard about this being a problem. To be honest, we got ours no questions asked, either we’re really good friends with our local dealership (they’ve done a lot of service work for us thus far and are all really cool people) or, the vin rule only applies to not TRD models. Meaning TRD off road premiums are also allowed to have it. Either way, sorry you’re having tough luck. Maybe scout on some forums or go to a dealership parking lot and snag a vin ahaha
Seems like your dad did most of the work.
Max weight on these racks is 100 pounds.
I wish there was more steps shown instead all of the talking. Like showing how to assemble the roof track. And actually popping off of the Oem rack tabs and etc. Good video but just missing a lot of actually steps of doing it. As some of us like to visually see it.
More work less talk.
Contentious of me to say, but the prinsu and other third-party roof racks are ugly.
Too much talking bro. Just get to it!
Dont watch it then. Was a great video
Why didn’t you show how to assemble the roof rack , what’s the point of this pointless video
The trd pro rack is utterly useless.
Best looking rack
Looks great though. I just bought one. Just for the look of it.
