Yes, that was good comedy! These comedians mostly were off the top of their head, their were some that thought they had to get dirty, but, they could ( and I'm sure in their night club acts, they were) but they didn't have to be! They were just good!!!!
There was nobody like Don Rickles. Nobody. His timing, expressions and quick wit were incomparable. Don’t try to compete…you’ll lose. And his humor was clean. Always clean. I’m so thankful I saw him perform live before he passed away.
Bringing us all laughter even now. Long gone entertainers that you don’t see anymore. Thank God that we can still see them on u tube. They made us laugh, they made us cry, but the memories will never die. Thankyou RIP one and all. 😢
The day this show was live, I had earlier that day pulled a disk in my back. after going to the Dr and getting some pain pills, I was laying on the bed watching this show as the pain pills wore off. The pain was getting worse so I was trying to go over on the TV, where the pill bottle was. Every time I tried to the pills, they told another joke and that sent me back on the bed in pain again, over and over, It was after the show went off the air that I was finally able to take that pill. I have never had so much pain, laughing my head off, and enjoyed it even though it hurt so much with the pain.
“Warm up the car jack, we’re in trouble” 😂 One of the most classic and perfectly timed comedic lines I’ve ever heard. I’m only 29 almost 30 but thank god for UA-cam and blessing me with one of the greatest comedic minds of all time. Don Rickles was an absolute genius and so quick and witty, and humble as well. Everyone respects Mr. Warmth and adores him, and the coolest thing about it is NO ONE was safe. Any race, sex, religion, or thing could get that work from the Don, and nobody ever got offended either. You almost want him to roast you, that means he likes you. Amazing that he was able to reach generations and generations after his time. Universally funny to all. I can watch him all day.
Don Rick less was a comedic genius. He had such a quick wit. He is one of my all time favorite comedians and comedic actors. Hilariousness. Thank you for putting this up, it brings back a lot of great tv memories. I wish these guys could have lived forever. The best of us, truly.
This is the quality of entertainment my generation were fortunate enough to watch first time around. Like five times a week for years in the case of this one show alone. We only had six or seven stations not counting uhf stations which really didn't come in very well. It's so great to watch then again. Thank you!!

I miss this type of Television... It was a time where we had alot of the great performances during Johnny's Reign during late night 🌙 Television 📺 ... They were amazing times and will never be forgotten. You knew every time when one of the comedic greats was on his show there was gonna be magic and you were gonna witness a special moment in time. As a young kid in the 70's this was one of my favorite shows because of Rickles and Dangerfield, Dom Deloise, Sammy Davis, and many more. I'm glad we got You Tube and can visit these episodes anytime we want... it brings back fond memories for those of us who loved this type of comedy 🤣
There's also a great clip of the tonight show with Frank Sinatra guest hosting for Johnny and Don Rickles appearing. Frank and Don also loved each other and had great on screen chemistry.
It's amazing to be able to see these now. I was never allowed to stay up late for any of them and how FUNNY they were! Nothing now compares to what they had back then. I should watch them all late at night for the full effect.
This is an incredible documentation of not only one of the greatest TV show hosts of all time, but also of one of the greatest comics of all time, and all of the stars and starletts inbetween. Top that off with all of these classic commericals that I'm sure the networks don't even have copies of anymore and this becomes essentially a history book.
Indeed! I would add one of the greatest guitarists and musicians of all time as well. In fact, Glen Campbell might have been the most talented performer of all the greats on the stage that night. He even did some acting, and he was funny. A lot of folks don’t recognize how great Glen was, but ask a guitarist and chances are they will say he was one of the best ever and possibly the most versatile. If anyone reads this and hasn’t listened to his music, or hasn’t listened in a while, you can find some great performances on UA-cam of Wichita Lineman (my favorite), Galveston, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Gentle On My Mind, and more. For pure instrumental brilliance his performance of William Tell Overture is special as well. It was a blessing in so many ways to have grown up during that era, and it’s wonderful to have these videos available to enjoy even today.
Don Rickles was an equal opportunity insulter. It didn’t matter who you were....lowest and the highest. That’s what people loved and expected of him. Even in the ‘simpler times’ of the 60s he was the only person in entertainment that could get away with that. He was one of a kind. A very kind, funny man.
He picks on the big guys quicker and harder, but not exclusively. Somewhere along the way, usually at the end he’ll say “it’s just kidding and the guy’s he insults are great.” You got to see him with the expectation he is there to insult for laughs. The best people are those who can laugh at themselves.
@Roger Gibson and by that logic which I agree with it would be safe to say that no Aboriginal or native American or native Canadian person should feel any guilty either and light of the atrocities that were committed against them as well in fact we could examine the Black culture as a whole I am realized that they suffered terrible tragedies and indignities so I guess they would be exempt to from feeling any guilt
I remember at about 10 years old... Listening to the Johnny Carson Show and now knowing how classic and worthwhile these clips are!!! God Bless the talent and memorable moments that these guests put in for the night at this time.

Got to see Rickles in person in Las Vegas in 1978. I had never really cared for him but my uncle assured me I’d love his show. Well, I was still laughing days after every time I remembered one of his lines. He always chose a couple from the audience he would pick on all during the show and it was hilarious. At the end he asked us all to give the couple a round of applause for being such good sports and he gave them a bottle of Champaign. All of these “classics” were terrific and it was a time when no one was offended by anything. Comedy is all about taking real life situations and mocking them. With today’s population of the eternally offended, good comedy is nearly dead, with the exception of a few like Sebastian Maniscalco. It’s a sad day when we can no longer laugh at ourselves.

Michael Landen is so dead pan funny, he can stand toe to toe with Don Rickles. This has been the funniest 2 1/2 hours I`ve ever spent watching the Tonight show. Rickles is hysterical. in the one clip, Johnny looked genuinely pissed at Don after he broke his cigarette box he kept on his desk.
I grew up watching every single night. Couldn't wait to see who was going to be on. I feel young again watching this. These were the best comedians that ever existed. They were the foundation and very much thanked and missed. Today's shows are a waste and nothing original.
me too! especially when no school i would stay up late and had a small tv i bought...before that i had a 400 lbs rcs with small screen black and white and i loved it..back when they had tubes not solid state..great times as a kid!
Dear healthy Class, it's a wonderful, great honor to see & witness Sir Don Rickles Sir here. He's in such great form and if you study close enough you can see & witness his immense focus on good health, concentration, and Don's hilariously, hysterically high level of health....and actually many, many years of diligent daily training. His balance and posture are just fantastic, so well centered. It reminds me directly of Ballet and Classical training & Dance, and many great Martial Artists, including Bruce Lee - Founder of Jeet Kune Do, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, and the legendary Mikael Barishnikov. Don Rickles earned his reputation so well as being somewhat a Universal & Tribunal Spokesperson & Scholar regarding fitness, & good health, for real Class. Role model time. Understanding the value of health & good health, which allows for other great things in life once you have a good career enough to fund food & shelter at minimum always, etc., and thus maintain your good health. Yet without health all the other things in life seem to just fade with no energy to work and stay busy, and to do & be something good with your life. Don's had so much training it's immense though, Class, as in "the fisticuffs" Admiral, lol. Big kid glovey all the way Bear's paws on him, lol. He keeps us in line, Class, always..count on it. Don's awareness is amazing too in this footage, he looks very enlightened and aware of his surroundings, and still such a great showman too entertaining the crowd.
The past few days have been rough. This morning I was still feeling down and depressed. Then I discovered all the Late Night Carson and Don Rickles episodes. I have been laughing nonstop for the past 4 hours watching all the episodes. I can honestly say that Don Rickles on Tonight Show with Carson as host healed me. For anyone experiencing some difficult times here is the prescription. “By the way the rodeo pony died”😂 “My mother climbing a mountain top”😂 “He’s got you and I listening”😂 “I saw the x-rays a week tops and this will be your show”😂 “Where is your hometown by the way…Delight Arkansas”😂 “Is there a state home for cowboy?”😂 “You wife must be a busy beaver”😂 “Burt is lonely”😂 “Can’t you use me in Vegas?”😂 “Burt I’ll be off in minute then you can show this outfit”😂 “She’s in New York with her organ and monkey”😂 “Why invite a cowboy dumbbell” 😂 “You did take Christmas from us”😂
I cry for those days living in Bermuda everyone had a favorite show and talked about it the next day fantastic community spirit no bad language on tv happy happy days (:
I have to thank youtube, and for posters like you MrBenthie. Going on 60, my life is in decline, and its so fun to watch old shows like Johnny Carson, All in the Family, and legends like Rickles roasting everyone. I could go on and on, but knowing my time is short, I want to go out with a laugh, and you posting this makes me happy.
These were the heart and soul of funny they forgot more then the present day comics of today. Dangerfield and Robin Williams should have been there also Milton berle.
I love it too I love the generation that's come behind them but real comedy they are gentleman's and it's all about being a gentleman to the crowd the laugh no matter what you say as long as basically you're polite
@7:08 -- Everyone gets up to say goodbye to Rickles, except Jack Benny. This is not a one-off time that Benny either was clueless, or had no respect for others. In two other episodes of The Tonight Show, when Johnny brought in the next guest, Benny would not move over. Benny remained seated next to Johnny, and the new guest had to sit further away from Johnny, and talk passed Benny. That happened twice, in two different Tonight Show episodes.
True Stars Legends Glen Campbell amazing artist. Masterful player of so many instruments. Guitar, Bag Pipes, Violin, Flute, Saxophone magnificent. Dom Delauise hysterical! Skit comedy genius. Rickles no words to describe Don's talent. Laugh till it hurts impeccable timing. Never vulgar. Burt Reynolds first ever box office superstar. Known to be loyal to a fault. One of the rare instances Burt was a mega star on television his role of Dan August ☆☆☆☆☆ Big Screen superstar career spanning 50 years. Of course Carson generation today cannot imagine a star so talented. Folks back in the day altered their schedule to be home watching Tonight Show w/ Johnny Carson. Not one of the here today gone tomorrow host will ever obtain that level of fame.
Watched this video while on a heroic dose of mushrooms, made me go back to the 70s, good times with trippy audio and visual hallucinations, really made the interviews feel brand new
Michael Landon with King Don is pure gold! Little Joe - super handsome, cool and mega funny. And makes Don rolling on the floor, what a chemistry those two have. And over all of this hovers Johnny, the master. 1:08:13

The best 2 and a half hours I've had in years . . . . . . THANK YOU!
"...and by the applause Jack, warm up the car we're in trouble." lol... genius timing!
He was always thanked John for his career
Loved that! Incredible timing & intelligence.

llllllll
Havind Don Rickels standing up and appladuing tells a great deal about the timing and quality of Johnny punchlines.
Johnny Carson is the goat of late night talk show God bless his soul!!!!
I refuse to watch today's shows. A bunch of political hacks! Politics has no place in these shows
The entertainment industry will never see the likes of these giants again.
I think Rich Little and Dick Van Dyke are the only ones left.
Amazing compilation. Thank you!
I barely understand English and still i think is the best comedian of all time!
I don’t know what you’re smoking, but let me know...!!!
“By the way the rodeo pony died”😂
“My mother climbing a mountain top”😂
“He’s got you and I listening”😂
“I saw the x-rays a week tops and this will be your show”😂
“Where is your hometown by the way…Delight Arkansas”😂
“Is there a state home for cowboy?”😂
“You wife must be a busy beaver”😂
“Burt is lonely”😂
“Can’t you use me in Vegas?”😂
“Burt I’ll be off in minute then you can show this outfit”😂
“She’s in New York with her organ and monkey”😂
“Why invite a cowboy dumbbell” 😂
“You did take Christmas from us”😂
And they will never be able to replace these geniuses or copy them 1 in a million
There will never be anything else like this
No, there will never be :')
I cry for those days living in Bermuda everyone had a favorite show and talked about it the next day fantastic community spirit no bad language on tv happy happy days (:
Thanks, I’m still watching every night!
The good old days of actual talent are far gone. Sad! 😥
Funniest guy ever. I saw him many times perform and he simply killed me laughing!
The very best in life is truly short lived.
Wow. Never realized Michael Landen had such wit.
Thanks for posting. This is great
I loved carson with robin williams robin would keep him laughing so much he was crying
Watching in 2021 - wow…this was 48 years ago.
Did Rickles and Robin Williams ever meet? 🤨🤔😬
*...Don Rickles back then....Going places.😎*
i discovered rickles few years ago and i addicted instantly. what a great mind. (from turkiye)
No politics just funny stuff
Yeah, I completely agree with you -- except for the all the racist, homophobic, and misogynistic jokes
It used to be called humor. We could laugh at ourselves. Take a joke. No more edge. Only pablum puking, pc nonsense. RIP Morton.
They Literally talk about reagan...
There's literally politics sprinkled throughout the whole thing
@@drdre4397 before Ronnie was president. He was an actor.
Underrated video deserves more views!
Great guy and very funny
All the old ones were great and not dirty mouths. Miss that!!!!!!
He was always thanked John for his career
Rickles actually was given his big break by Frank Sinatra, I thought.
@@dovbarleib3256 Frank did help, but Johnny used to have Don on many times. I think Rickles has the most appearances on Johnny’s show ever.
True Stars
Legends Glen Campbell amazing artist.
One of the rare instances Burt was a mega star on television his role of Dan August ☆☆☆☆☆
Big Screen superstar career spanning 50 years.
Of course Carson generation today cannot imagine a star so talented.
Folks back in the day altered their schedule to be home watching Tonight Show w/ Johnny Carson.
Not one of the here today gone tomorrow host will ever obtain that level of fame.
Thankyou for tge clip..Love this
After watching hundreds of old Tonight Shows I'd wager Rickles and Dangerfield were peak Carson
Great just great I so miss these guys
Watched this video while on a heroic dose of mushrooms, made me go back to the 70s, good times with trippy audio and visual hallucinations, really made the interviews feel brand new
Always amazing don rickles
Michael Landon with King Don is pure gold! Little Joe - super handsome, cool and mega funny. And makes Don rolling on the floor, what a chemistry those two have. And over all of this hovers Johnny, the master. 1:08:13
Landers loved long salami lol
Don Rickles the funniest man on the planet.
On the planet? What planet are you on? Ahhhhhh your thought. Carson is by far funnier than the grand insulter
