He was absolutely brilliant and put the politicians who deserved it to shame with class! No one can do it like Johnny did as yet.. though the 3 or 4 late night hosts are good and very good but just don’t have Johnny’s talent.. he set the bar and it’s still there untouched like a shinning torch waiting.
I think Norm MacDonald could have come close if he was given that break right after Johnny retired but no.. they had to give it to Leno.. 😳🙄😵‍💫 😥
What a totally missed opportunity!! Sadly.. they screwed up royally!!

He understood the importance of intimacy late at night. He understood that he was late night company... a night light...a familiar person that visited us every night. It was innocent, informative, funny, and he kept it that way. No politics, no venom, no bias, just real talent and entertainment. Fantastic conversation. He helped us all to wind down and laugh after hard, busy days. He tucked us all into bed at night. He was family. It was just the greatest television EVER. We will never see his like again. Truly one of a kind. A TRUE LEGEND.

The only time I was ever able to watch Carson live was while visiting California in 1971, and Joey Bishop was the stand-in host (I don't really remember!) but was amazed at what went on, we got there around 4pm, and left by 6pm. The band played when ever they went to commercials which was neat hearing a number from start to finish. It wasn't taped in one go, they had to stop sometimes to do something, make changes or whatever. Some people were bored, some got angry and they left, but to me It was fun. But not seeing Johnny in person was disappointing.

But it’s not, it’s getting worse. There won’t be anything else to take the place of such great talent. One of the most important aspects in life is laughter. It makes you feel good, like sex feel good. I don’t do either anymore. And it brakes my heart. RIP. Johnny, we miss you, we sure could use you right now.

Gary Shandling alternated with Jay Leno as guest hosts for Johnny Carson on "The Tonight Show" from September, 1986 to September, 1987. THEN-Jay Leno was the exclusive guest host for Johnny from September, 1987 to April, 1992. My mother and I had the high honor of seeing Jay Leno live in concert in June of 1991-at the outdoor pavillion in Concord, California! He put on a GREAT live performance-VERY funny stuff!

They don't make them like Johnny Carson anymore. I loved watching this show. It's the one show you knew you would get to see a show with a little class. Nowadays these late night shows can't even come close to what Johnny did. That being said they are at least trying. Letterman got off track in his later seasons before he retired, and made his show too political. It made the show a bit of a turn off. When he was younger and first starting out, his shows were great! I never cared what political party he was affiliated with until he started making it an issue.

Johnny Carson is by far better than all of these new night show hosts combined. Johnny Carson was a total comedian that did great jokes on everything other than politics and when he did jokes on politics it was jokes about all politicians in any of these political parties. Today these late night show hosts are only about politics and only about Trump but the jokes are more nasty than funny and these late night hosts are just an extension of what CNN and MSNBC do in their prime time but with these late night show hosts trying to turn what CNN and MSNBC talk about into comedy but they do a very poor job with turning this into comedy. Johnny Carson was a true late night comedian unlike what we are currently getting on prime time TV.
