Several different sources and hints we’ve gotten indicate that Flying was originally going to be what the since-scrapped “Bird-Type” was in Gens 1 and 2, a Type only available on glitch Pokémon in the former and presumably nowhere in the latter. It would be until later in development of Gen 1 where Flying-Types that weren’t birds were created, which may also explain why Flying was always the Pokémon’s “secondary” Type all the way until Gen 5. The idea here is that prior to the Bird-Type being scrapped, Pokémon like Charizard and Dragonite may have been single types like their pre-evolutions.
@@bdt2002gaming I personally would very much prefer flying-types to be only bird-like and wind-using pokémon -like Tornadus-, while giving the rest the inherent benefit of being inmune to ground-type moves and grounded traps, but I guess it may be too complex for Pokémon.
