An interesting thing about gen 4 Arceus is that it was actually EV locked. Because it was only ever distributed at level 100 and you couldn't EV train level 100 Pokemon prior to gen 5, the most you could get for Arceus was 100 EVs in five stats with the vitamins. Despite this, it was STILL too overpowered
It wasn't originally banned for being op though, it was because the sim at the time couldn't implement its EV restrictions. I'm not sure if when it was "tested" in certain tournaments later on and kept banned it was EV locked either, so while it's undoubtedly incredibly powerful and versatile in Ubers it's hard to say whether it would've necessitated a DPP AG with a proper timely release or if it's more a fringe case like NFE banned ADV UU where the playerbase overall just enjoyed the tier better without it (and its 16 other forms).
@@EvilApple567from my understanding and research it seems like the community thought it took away rather than added to the tier. that gen 1 counter quirk is also the reason gengar sometimes runs the move even though it's immune to normal- and fighting-type damage: if your opponent takes out one of your pokemon with a body slam or hyper beam, you can send in gengar to outspeed them and hit them with counter, which will calculate off of the move used last turn even though gengar wasn't the one who took the hit.
Gengar can't outspeed them as counter has negative priority in gen 1. Nor can it be attacked at all by anything, it relies on the opponent switching out and countering whatever swaps in.

I had an idea to give normal types a weaker stab and resistance to most other types, as in normal grants a small 1.2x boost to non-normal moves and 1.2x resistance to incoming attacks minus fighting (and normal). These would not stack with dual-types also. It would help make it more reliable as a “Jack-of-all-trades” in the modern era while _maybe_ not being completely overpowered.
snorlax's versatility is so cool in gen 1. when I played it again recently I used a set of amnesia, blizzard, earthquake and self destruct. it sucks not being able to heal up and potential use him again but it's a good set for taking advantage of the extra special bulk and predicting switches and it's good for trading with chansey and isn't shut down by porygon which I can imagine is really damn embarrassing if that has happened to anyone before. wouldn't be me the amnesia snorlax user hasdofi
Dodrio btw is the frailest normal type. EVERYTHING 2hkos it. It’s a cute concept to switch between a more specially bulky special attacker into an agile physical attacker altho I wish that I can switch between forma without wasting a move slot for relic song. Meloetta is oddly nostalgic for me as a kid Competitively, I would say farigiraf. Despite its relatively modest stat spread, it has found a way to become better due to power creep in the vgc meta which is a rare case for a Pokémon with its nice typing, great utility moves, and its powerful armor tail ability being able prevent priority attacks from disrupting your game, especially fake out
Also, I kinda wished Stellar was a gimmick type that made certain Pokemon truly typeless. I always wondered if certain Pokemon would benefit from just straight up not having a type.

The level 85 chansey with seismic toss is a real gen 1 strategy. Three hits on their chansey, thats 255 damage and due to a glitch it makes their softboiled fail. I think it works on opps with recover too but not sure
It's certainly a "real gen 1 strategy" in the way that running sweeper ferrothorn is a "real gen 5 strategy" Certainly interesting, has an application, but niche, easily countered when known, and at this point, too well known to catch people off-guard. No serious player intending to win a gen 1 ou match would bring it.
Users of the historic OU ranked normal type rapper Eminem have been awfully quiet since Jimmothy said “Maushold; every mouse has its household”. I don’t even think Eminem can learn semicolon folks.
I miss when every new Pokemon didn't need to have a new ability or move unique to them. Signature moves and abilities used to be the exception, but now almost every new Pokemon has them. It makes these traits feel less special or interesting than they used to.
Hey jim arceus can not use 252 EVs in its stats because you receive it at level 100 and it can only be EVd by the EV items which can only put 100 EVs in each stat
Even though these are OU+ focused, it seems disingenuous to not mention Porygon's dominance of ADV ZU which makes GSC Lax look like a ZU itself. Bending the meta to its -bill- will, this sharp duck sends Ponyta Running Away at the sight of it, and Illuminates Staryu to the fact it is a sub par(a) status spreader and special attacker. Even if Staryu tries getting cheeky by using a functional ability, the electric soldier will show that anything Yu can do, it can do better, and before you know it your star shaped paper weight is Gon.

if you think about it, ground type is the new normal type. they both have 1 immunity, both have resilience against metagame forces, think sr or immunity to body slam paralysis. the pokemon tend to have big movepools and overall high stats. and both jusst represent large animal/monsters, pokemon in its purest form. the only thing that breaks from this is that ground types have a bit of anti armor to them as they can beat rocks and steels

Komala rising to check a top tier pokemon, Dragapult, should be included!
Mega Kangaskhan and Maushold showing the power of child soldiers
Users of the historic OU ranked normal type rapper Eminem have been awfully quiet since Jimmothy said “Maushold; every mouse has its household”.
I don’t even think Eminem can learn semicolon folks.
I miss when every new Pokemon didn't need to have a new ability or move unique to them. Signature moves and abilities used to be the exception, but now almost every new Pokemon has them. It makes these traits feel less special or interesting than they used to.
i am boombursting so hard right now
Hey jim arceus can not use 252 EVs in its stats because you receive it at level 100 and it can only be EVd by the EV items which can only put 100 EVs in each stat
I feel like you should've brought up Snorlax in adv ubers, it is a lot better in that tier which I think people would find interesting.
Oh shit Jimothy isn't cool, he's HOT 🥵
I always find it hilarious that we spent nearly 20 years not realising that Normal types could not be paralyzed by body slam.
Regigigas unironically my favorite normal type
every house has its maushold
I really feel like mew should have been a normal type, it would have fit very well with it's lore as the ancestor pokemon, and with it's access to boom, body slam and swords dance it may have actually been much more of a threat to mewtwo in gen 1 ubers
Also hyper beam lol
groudon mention
Chansey/Blissey were really consistent. Just a braindead pokemon.
Hey at least they were the best type in gen 1 and having lax in gen 2. Also god
Was thinking, is normal/fighting with scrappy the only true perfect neutral coverage there is, when you include abilities, wonderguard aside?
It's the only two-type complete neutral coverage. Ghost/Fighting was also true neutral prior to Hisuian Zoroark
Tinted lens would give several dual types perfect neutral coverage. Lokix has perfect coverage on everything except for Iron Valiant.
@@lrodshrek6086 tinted lens still technically doesn't count as true neutral. If something had an ability that procced when they resist an attack, Tinted Lens doesn't bypass it
Freeze-dry + Water
Scrappy ghost + fighting
pory is love, pory is life
My favourite normal type has to be Exploud. Just shout at your enemy until they faint! Too bad I don't see it in any competitive tier/gen, does anyone know a tier/gen where it does not suck? (does not have to be OU)
I have a question, Jimothy Cool. Kangaskhan can learn roar. This made me wonder, can kangaroos roar?
Jim please can we get a tierlist on types for gen 9 competitive singles? I love your videos.
Maybe ask someone who is more invested to the tier
You described Gen 1 freeze mechanics wrong, its moves that can burn that thaw, fire spin doesnt thaw.
Chansey>snorlax for rby
Days since Groodon: 0
do fighting next
if you think about it, ground type is the new normal type. they both have 1 immunity, both have resilience against metagame forces, think sr or immunity to body slam paralysis. the pokemon tend to have big movepools and overall high stats. and both jusst represent large animal/monsters, pokemon in its purest form. the only thing that breaks from this is that ground types have a bit of anti armor to them as they can beat rocks and steels
This analogy breaks down with ground being one of the best offensive types in the game
