- The Star Wars Darth Maul game from Red Fly Studio titled Battle of the Sith Lords was set to release in the early 2010s, but never made it. The Darth Maul game had working lightsaber combat, force powers, Mandalorians, and Darth Maul's speeder bike gameplay. Red Fly had also previously worked on The Force Unleashed 2, and were in talks with LucasArts. So why did this new Star Wars game get cancelled? And could a Darth Maul game possibly release in the future?

Thats pretty sad, the project just gets shelved - the creater and company have nothing to do but to just move on after loads of failed attempts. I hope they bring the game back.
LucasFilm/Arts made some big mistakes and a lot of games have sadly been killed off forever almost arbitrarily.
It's gotten worse than ever under Disney and giving EA total exclusivity - thankfully that is no longer the case, but FECK ME! We could've had 20 Star Wars games under EA had they decided to truly milk it and Disney had given the many studios more freedom with story - I'd have loved the LEGENDS canon had been expanded more and more in games, like 3-6 games, and 14 games to date fitting the Disney narrative - even if it is a bit forced. Like the awful 'sequel trilogy' they're demanding us to love, which... isn't working very well.
Such a total waste. EA and Disney had so many games cancelled, and we only got 3 real games. Battlefront 1, 2 and Fallen Order.

There is a book that goes through maul's life from infancy to his *spoiler alert* death on Naboo. It's quite a good read. Not sure if it is considered Canon or legends. Wish I still had it.

People and myself have ALWAYS taken Star Wars seriously, it's just that other lucas doesn't always take it AS seriously as other people hopped. It's how we get jokey characters like Jar jar and Ewoks at times and Lucas continuously saying "star wars is for kids" when that's CLEARLY not true at all. Star Wars is a FANTASTIC franchise and at it's best when it's taking itself seriously but it can only reach it's best when the right people are helming it.

I think instead of only blaming Disney for ruining Star Wars we should've blamed both Lucas AND Disney I mean Georgie is the one who got lazy and said "eh fuck it I got my money I don't care anymore" especially since he didn't care that they killed Luke, I don't like Lucas just as much as I don't like Disney Star Wars.

@@JakNasty69 In George's vision of the Sequels, Luke lived at least to 9. Without George, we wouldn't have the original six or The Clone Wars, nor anything Filoni such as Rebels or The Mandalorian. And he sold it so he could spend time with and raise his family, not because he was "lazy".
@@thejurassicjungle1275 The third film was just Clone Wars 03. And Clone wars 08 is what that film should have been more like or even the trilogy. Not to mention it seems like every decision that was made that cause Disney Star Wars to be incredibly hated was due to Kathleen Kennedy who was the person who George left in charge not Disney. Also even with that idea of a George's sequels it seems like he just stole Red Fly's work and make that their sequel. Even if he wanted to sell it to spend more time with his family he didn't seem to make sure it was in good hands first before selling the company to Disney who was only Star Wars project they worked on was Star Tours. He basically set Disney and Lucasfilm to fail.

It's an old gaming legend. 1313 was a dark game of Lucasarts, so beautiful and so story driven, he could have been possible to use it to influence the the community that Lucasarts can create good games... they had such a knowledge of next gen technology that some say it could even keep the company they cared about from dying. The dark side of business is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. It was so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing their parent company Lucasfilm, which eventually, of course, they did. Unfortunately, George sold everything they knew to Disney, then killed Lucasarts at 99% complete with 1313. It's ironic he could have almost save Lucasarts from death, but not from Disney.'

Star wars demolition for a kid was amazing especially a kid who had family to troll on that game. It may have been a terrible star wars game but it was a very fun vehicle combat game

Darth Nihilus needs to have some time on the big screen. Darth Maul deserves his own video game spin off. Imho they're 2 of the coolest characters ever to grace the Star Wars universe!
Which is funny because that would've been a much better way of incorporating him into the universe rather than resurrect and plant him in the story whenever they please.
Darth Maul is one of my favorite characters and I enjoyed seeing him in the clone wars, but rebels and that scene in Solo made me wish they just have shown us what he did before Naboo. I had the same wish when I realized the just resurrected Darth Sidious for episode 9.
We could've had a story where we see Maul's training and relationship with Sidious as well as what Palps relationship with Plagueis and how it changed once he started to train Maul.

Edit: since most replies to this are about my starkiller comment instead of the statues let me put this here. For some fans what George Lucas thinks only matters when it's anti Disney. Don't get me wrong. I dislike the sequels myself and even dislike George's choice for Grievous to be a coward and i agree Starkiller is a better character than Rey but if you saw someone pull a stardestroyer out of the sky in movies or shows without ever seeing in a game 1st and it wasn't done by someone as strong as or stonger than palpatine it would be the new holdo method discussion for the Fandom at large. Seriously with the way our Fandom is you know that's far from impossible. There's nothing wrong with enjoying force unleashed or the sequels or enjoying neither or enjoying one. I'm just talking about consistency.
But what about George Lucas's attack on Starkiller, how can you hate Starkiller.

@@Jaden-Ring the over inflation of the Star destroyer feat is also explained away, the Star destroyer was already on it’s way down, he just used all his power he had to redirect it, a feat in which the exertion had almost killed him, and Vader as a combatant is built to confront Jedi styled fighters, acrobatic speed fencers and has high difficulty with those with a strong offense similar to his own, as starkiller after several coflicts and being trained by Vader was familiar with his movements enough to counter in their final bout, something that was set up as a mock duel to sway him over as sidious’s apprentice, and as for his clone in the second game, he wasn’t killed because Vader wanted him alive to do his bidding, and they even go out of their way in the game to show that if Vader desired to he’d have killed him

Imagine being Disney and EA or whoever gets to handle these projects and just shutting them down.

Ea has made a new announcement confirming the future Jedi fallen Order sequel, but on top of that, they said there will be a more "unusual" ea star wars game releasing sometime in the coming years. Could be a revival of this.

That’s... Soul crushing. It sounds like that studio was incredibly good at what it did, but too small to be taken seriously by larger partners like Lucasarts: They had everything well underway, then they got told to change it, they miraculously managed, only to get told to change it again; time came to show what they’d done and the same people who told them to effectively start over tell them that it’s not fluid enough. They get tired of the indecisiveness their partner is displaying, so go looking for a strong, solid game plan from the big boss; only to realise that he has next to no interest in what they’d envisioned or created up to that point and is at this point severely disconnected from the larger narrative in the universe he himself had created... Damnit, it’s literally the story of a talented group getting screwed over by the ones who hired them not knowing what the hell they wanted.

I worked as an artist for this game. It was a dream project for me personally. When they shut down the project because of the Disney Merger it was over before it even began. Everytime a company gets bought out, redundancies in their portfolios get thrown out. We are all just a number to these corporations. I dont buy or subscribe to any Disney related properties anymore. Their greed is overwhelming and nothing they do is for the good of people. Its just all about $$$.

Not entirely but I can see what they mean but that's kind of missing the context. Anakin doesn't "cRieS" at all after he turned on Mace Windu but I can see what they're talking about it's just that there was more nuanced things happening that wasn't overtly clear to the audience.
There was a game for PSX Star Wars: Demolition, where you could choose a heroe and fight in a battlefield. And Maul in his speader was one of them. I remember this one cause his ult was activating the laser while in the speader making damage to the units near by.

Explains why the Wii version of forced unleashed was so different to the other consoles, I remember being able to customise / change lightsaber hilt in the Wii version and walk around in the ship between missions

I think there biggest over look is what Darth Maul was originally trained to be. An Assassin. I bet if they ran the new engine. But made it like star wars meets Assassin's Creed style keeping in mind maul was meant to be an assassin. Theyd have more success. Cover his training/background as early game. Then make the middle him pulling off key assassinations that Palpatine would use to set the stage for the war he was planning. And then make the end tie into the events of phantom menace. Malls defeated by obi wan and we know the rest from there.

Nowadays for Star Wars, Maul has been shoehorned into nearly everything, Rebels, Solo and now the new Clone Wars Season so i feel it after the newer Clone Wars season is done they should continue working on this game and hopefully it is secretly in the works as Maul as a character is more hyped than before so i believe now is a perfect time to drop in a game about him.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I kinda like the idea of Maul's heir and Darth Talon teaming up to restore the rule of two concept more than a straight up Maul origin story.
It would have been great to be able to have both versions: “Mauls ‘s training” and “Clone Wars crossover” released as a duology.

Maul riding the Bloodfin is a playable character in Star Wars: Demolition. It was a Twisted Metal clone. Not well remembered in the deluge of Phantom Menace merch.
An entire game of just causing absolute carnage as Darth Maul would be glorious.

From what I've heard, the scrapped Darth Maul game was supposed to be set a few years after Return of the Jedi and would feature Mandalorians.
But great video, still, Andrew. You should do a video based on the scrapped 1313 game.
...And now we know that George was ACTUALLY planning to use Maul in the sequel Trilogy and that's why he put him and Talon together for this meeting.
This is all insane. He supposedly resurrected Maul in TCW and wrote his arc as a way to set up the villain of the entire sequel trilogy now!

Not really at all as I REALLY wished George didn't bring maul back AT ALL for the sequel trilogy in the slightest. Rebels gave Maul a PERFECT ending with his final fight with Obi-wan cutting him down and maul dying right there and then to perfectly close off his character ending with his enemy with prequel era stuff perfectly closing off as the originally trilogy begins. That was WAY more fitting and perfect for Maul's character with his conflict with Obi-wan for decades on end than whatever plan that George thought up of for him bringing him back for his sequel trilogy. It's for the best that Maul was brought back to flesh up out to give him more character and depth which he got a MASSIVE ton of and became one of the best characters in Star Wars due to Clone Wars and Rebels but he REALLY shouldn't have came back AT ALL for the "sequel trilogy" in the slightest, he should have just made just NEW villains that NOT Darth Maul at all. I'm fine with Darth Talon being one of them but NOT Darth Maul coming back, it's just unnecessary for him to come back.

I think that Darth Talon could of force revived Darth Maul and you could switch between them and when you switch the one you switched from gets controlled by AI and they both have there own attributes , and some of them could kill specific enemy's easier , I also think that you could use fear for the force , for example you could upgrade your appearance to make enemy's produce fear to use the force and you could overfill the bar to get a special attack or power up your regular attack

I would have loved this game along with star wars 1313 and force unleashed 3. Such a shame disney shut down lucasarts, and gave the license to EA who has only given us 3 mediocre games, and have cancelled the promising ones.

Not only was this game cancelled, but Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was cancelled - it looks fun to play, there are several gameplays of it - you can find as much as you can.
