A lot of you were worried that we'd skip out on the true original Souls game, but in reality we just had to find a way to play it. Over the holiday we nabbed my old PS3 from my parents house so she could finally play this old classic. I'm sorry if anyone is disappointed that she didn't play the remake, but hopefully someday down the line we'll be able to revisit the game on the updated hardware and have a fun comparison. In the meantime, enjoy watching her discover where it all started and see for yourself what happened when I made my girlfriend play Demon's Souls.

I love the chaoticness of the thumbnails. A character from the game covered in the video is just chilling only for a wild-eyed Tarny to be lurking behind them, lusting for blood.

I don't know if you told her and she ignored you as per the blink and you'll miss it large stockpile of ore in her inventory @ 8:56, or if you failed her in not mentioning it, but Ore for crafting at the blacksmiths can be taken directly from Stockpile Thomas. You don't have to have it in your inventory to do weapon crafting, so there is *NEVER* a reason to have Ore in your personal inventory. Farm for it and then immediately deposit it all on your next trip to the Nexus. Ore is also fairly heavy, particularly the higher quality stones, so if she was walking around with an inventory full of Ore, it's no wonder she was perpetually short on space.
The other issue is *Endurance* doesn't have an effect on Item Burden (max inventory space), Vitality does (as well as +Max HP). Endurance controls the weight of what you can equip on your body (Equip Burden) before you start fat rolling. So raising Endurance didn't help her at all to carry more loot. I saw VIT's between 25 and 30, so even with such a heavy sword of 20 units, that's barely 15% of her available inventory space (120 @ 25 VIT and 130 @ 30 VIT).
Lastly, Purple Flame Shield is love, Purple Flame Shield is life.
that was a great watch, impressed by how quickly she picked up these games, I still have a hard time with some of them but she's rolling through them lol

Although you didn't play the remake largely due to not having ps5 seeing someone experience the classic for the first time is great :D
Demon’s Souls was the first FromSoftware game, I tried. I gave up after the first boss. Years later I discovered Bloodborne. After that, I returned to Boletaria and was blown away by the world. The atmosphere in Demon’s Souls is fantastic. Yes, it has some shit mechanics (world tendency, player deleveling, etc.), but it is the mother of it all. I greatly appreaciate the fact, that you guys, played the OG on PS3. It makes it so much better. The remake is awesome! Thanks for making this entertaining video for us.

Slowly making my way through the souls series. Just wanted to say these videos were very encouraging. Good stuff!
It might've been the first game in the souls series, but both Kings Field and Armored Core laid the foundation for most of the basic mechanics and systems in the souls series.
I remember playing the first demon souls
picked the mage
didn't know what was the R3 button to lock on target
so all my fire spells were thrown on the ground
I called this game ass and didn't played for a year and a half
then I had the brilliant Idea to read the manual
and this sparked my eternal love for the souls games 😍😍

Now that she's played all of the official souls game you should have her play a "Souls-Like" or two! I highly reccomend "Mortal Shell" as I've seen people who love the main games play it and love it repeatedly!
If you want to go even further back in fromsoft's history, check out King's Field, Armored Core, and Lost Kingdoms.
De-levelling is awesome. It's so out there as probably the most punishing thing they could do.

I'd be interested in seeing her try one of the souls like games. I'm personally fond of the Surge and Surge 2 but I think that stems more from the sci fi setting.

I'm happy to hear someone who had played and enjoyed the other souls games struggled with dying on the way to the bosses. Demon Souls remake was my first proper souls experience and as someone who is generally quite bad at games by Internet standards, I hated it. I might try it again once my brother gives it back from borrowing it.
Today was the day I learnt that if you edit your comment because of a typo after it is hearted by the content creator that the heart is removed. Lesson being always check for typo's people.
I just platinumed elden ring and did my first ever NG+. First fromsoft game. Y'all are making me want to play the other ones now.

The idea to steal a soul level with the soul devourer is incredible. Sad to see that you don't pay any attention to the lore of the soulsborne games but glad that she liked it.

Endurance doesn't increase item burden, that's vitality
Thankfully the item burden problem is fixed in the remake. It lets you send any items that would put you over the burden straight to stockpile thomas.

there are a lot of quality of life improvements in the ps5 remake, like any pick ups that would put you over your item carry limit automatically go to storage. and then being able to do omnidirectional roll of course lol.
now if only you played the kings field games. they are tied to the souls games. the moonlight great sword and seth are both featured in them.
I guess this is a hot take but I actually love the drained soul level mechanic and wish it was present in new games 😅 it gave so much more stakes to the final boss battle ('cause let's be honest,) the false king is the real last boss of the game lol)

Of course it's way slower than just having a keyboard to type with, but that console is too nostalgic to me to let it's name be ruined.
