Don't want to make a seperate comment for it but: Im sure you can change the direction of Smough's Hammer strong attack. At least i remembe rcatching people off guard with that. :)
Wait, you didn't have her take on the biggest challenge after this? Killing Sif *after* rescuing him is the toughest thing in the game! The mechanics may not change but it has so many more gut punches to the feels!
And the Sanctuary Guardians Lightning. Can't forget that, that's legally magic too. In fact, I think the only elemental attacks that aren't legally considered magic, are the Explosion attack demon bosses have, and The Hydra's Water Bullets. With Explosions being their own element, with zero ability to resist (unless there's information I haven't seen), and the Water Bullets legally being Physical attacks for some reason.
And when I say that they're legally magic, it counts to the extra damage from the Crown if I'm remembering correctly at least. Or maybe I read a bad resource and I'm completely wrong. I just remembered getting wrecked by Drakes when I forgot to take it off, and being able to survive easily without it.
Watching other people use the Silver Pendant makes me wonder why in all the runs of Manus I've done, why I never used it. I'd always get it, meme with it in PvP, but never would use it against Manus. It's definitely a lot easier when using it. I do hope you showed her the Alternate Dialogue of Dusk and the Alternate Cutscene of Sif's Intro too!
"The girl gets the girl, and successfully rescued the princess" YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE TO HOT LADY KNIGHT! These are so fun to watch, and watching someone smash Artorias with Smough's hammer is HILARIOUSLY amazing to see omg.
Oh, man, the memories. i played DLC the day it came out and didn't know about silver pendant, so i had to get good for Manus. I think it took me about the same amount of tries as the rest of the DS1 including dlc.

Keep doing what you're doing, and please know that your videos have made a positive impact on my life.
The whole section about using big weapons and waiting for openings is exactly why I didnt go for a big weapon build in Elden Ring. It just becomes Monster Hunter at that point where you Wait->Attack->Wait->Attack-Wait->Attack. At least with fists or claws, you deal very little damage on openings, so the game now becomes maximizing damage on the small openings that you DO get.
My favorite part about these playthroughs is literally how hard I was cheering on a person that I do not even know. I think all viewers were so collectively proud of her for beating some of the toughest bosses ever!
I've played through ds1 a half dozen times at least and I've never used the silver pendant lol. I had no idea it did that. That's super cool! Anyway, great job Taryn and thanks for sharing this video. It was super fun!
Definitely the best thing to watch before lights out and sleep. A Tarny victory dance in a Souls game is always hard earned and worth the prior anguish. ❤❤❤😊😊😊
The possible issues with the pendant are the reason why I kept it selected over estus. Only switching to estus when I need to heal. After all emergency pendant is more important than emergency estus xD
I use builds of all shapes and sizes when I play Dark Souls, but I learned to love heavy builds when I got like the black knight greatsword and took it to a boss room, I wasn't nicking bits off the enemy's healthbar now, suddenly I was smashing down with this huge blade and taking off devastating chunks of health, and man that was satisfying.
Congrats on another great video, entertaining as always. So I actually streamed my own first time through DS1 (and 3 as well as Sekiro and some of Elden Ring) starting about 2 years ago. When I got to Manus I didn't actually have the Silver Pendant, and had no idea it existed. I just rolled through the magic when he did them (which wasn't actually that often one of my friends told me later), and took little to no damage from them. I killed Manus in like 9 attempts, but the true boss of the DLC is definitely Kalameet. I actually nearly gave up on killing him because I just had no end of trouble with him.
It's about time! Been wondering when Taryn was going to do AotA, as it's perhaps my favorite part of DS1 (aside from Anor Londo, of course). Artorias is one hell of a boss and beating him is the best feeling, especially for the first time. Also, I had no idea you could use the Silver Pendant to deflect Manus's dark orbs (just learned that through this video). On my first (and only) playthrough of the DLC I totally overlooked the item. Considering how easy it is (after much practice, of course) to avoid Manus's strongest attack, I wonder how I even managed to beat Manus without the use of the pendant (my guess is lots of panic rolling). Also, Praise the Sun once again for another quality upload!
After all those years and just right now do I learn that you are supposed to have some item to fight Manus 😂 I always dodged enough of those bolts to be able to tank the rest since I always run defensive builds in souls games 😂
You have a good taste in music ny friend, the nergigante theme during the kalameet fight brought some good memories back. Edit:it's not the nergigante theme but i believe it's either the world version of proof of a hero or pride of a nameless hunter.
Absolutely love this video! Makes me wish that my husband would play fromsoft games with me, but he's not huge on their brand of difficulty. Which is understandable but still, dang! Also the Monster Hunter supergeek in me perked right up when I suddenly heard arch-tempered nergigante's theme slapped on top of Kalameet. Fantastic choice.
Gotta admit a high fantasy souls game does sound interesting IF the world and its inhabitants live like its a dark fantasy, it would be like the original Disney fairytales (the Grimm ones)
I'll be honest, I find the Manus fight a lot easier if you ignore the pendant. Each of his magic attacks has an associated direction that dodging is very easy towards, except for one of them. The Dark Circle spell he casts will just stop when it gets close to him, so if you just stay in his face the whole time, the whole fight much easier.
I want to say that don't be discouraged by low view counts. Your videos are awesome and incredibly funny. This channel will blow up some day probably ;)
I totally agree about heavy weapons being good for beginners. The Greatsword was my weapon of choice during my first time through Dark Souls 2 (my first Souls game), and the way it simplified combat by removing the need to worry about how many swings to take on my "turn" made learning combat much easier (you only get one swing, but it'll be a BIG one). It was also very fun to blast through an entire group of enemies with a single attack.
I *totally* feel the issues with item swapping. I'm currently playing DS2 finally, where there's a lot of different healing items as well as use items sometimes (Iron King DLC) and I've died a ton trying to switch mid-action. The fact that modern D-Pads like to double input and thus unequip my weapon often does not help. Like, yeah, I use a cheap 3rd party controller on PC, but the Switch Pro Controller has the same issue at thrice the price. Also, "window of opportunity" is what I'd that one PVP kill. Loved that.
It's rad watching other people go through areas. I also was a bonky person and I didn't use the pendant I just bonked him in the butt while running around in circles screaming (I used a mixed out lighting Zweihander. It's my favorite go to on any darksouls game)
See, I only use the pendant to dodge the dark bead spell where he shoots it straight at you. It's usually impossible to dodge unless you're far enough to get two rolls off. You can dodge the rain spell by sprinting and you can use the circle spell as an attack window by sprinting directly to Manus. You'll be safe if you're close to him. Also, you can tell which spell he's gonna do by the way he waves his staff. For the dark bead, he waves from left to right. For the rain, he waves it up in the air. For the circle, he stabs it into the ground.
The solution to the silver pendant issue is easy: instead of putting it on yoyr hotbar, reorder your inventory to put it on the top. When you see the magic start up, instead of having to check if you have to press down before pressing X/Square or not and have to think, you can just press Start and spam A like your life depends on it. You'll use the Pendant just in time to stop the attack.
For manus I always rebind the control for changing the hot bar item to the 2 hand button, since I never switch between 1 and 2 handing while I fight him. Makes it way easier to switch between the pendant and estus
Big slow weapons might be all right for first time players, but I would actually recommend long weapons like the halberd cause they teach you how to space properly. Halberds are especially forgiving cause their movesets usually include a sweeping attack that works well against mobs too.
I never knew there was an item to let you reflect manus’ spells. I’ve always done it by just rolling and tanking some damage, I though the mechanic was kind of like an estus check, where you had to strategically use your estus so you could survive the spell attacks. How did I never know this?
I always found the hotbar switching during combat to be really clunky too, it's not exactly an intuitive way to fight. They're still using it in Elden Ring though so I guess they're okay with it
I told my roommate about this series and he thought it was crazy. His response was "was she pissed?" (to have to play Dark Souls. And I tried explaining that she seemed to really dig it, and got good at it. He was so confused. He's never played any FROM games, though. I thought it was a funny reaction. This series is so wholesome.
Her issues with the silver pendant are the same issues I had with the Blasphemous Claw in the Maliketh fight in Elden Ring. Using it got me killed so many times and the one time I got it off I had to heal from the failed attempts before. In the end I ditched it and just beat him normally.
ds1 pvp is relationship goals man. I hope yall know how nice it is to have you guys in each others life
Don't want to make a seperate comment for it but:
Im sure you can change the direction of Smough's Hammer strong attack. At least i remembe rcatching people off guard with that. :)

The real fight is the one to avoid tearing up while fighting Sif. Difficulty: impossible.
Just out of curiosity…. Do you think he showed Taryn *that* cutscene? You know, the saddest souls cutscene in existence

I like how silent she is fighting Manus. Man does he still gives me a run for the my souls
I wonder if she knew that Dusk's crown increased not only given but recieved magic damage too, making Manus' magic beans deal more dmg.
And the Sanctuary Guardians Lightning.
Can't forget that, that's legally magic too.
In fact, I think the only elemental attacks that aren't legally considered magic, are the Explosion attack demon bosses have, and The Hydra's Water Bullets.

I am actually just discovering that this Silver Pendant thing exists lol, explains why this boss kicked my ass 😂
Same
Explains why it took me 3 days full of hours of trying to beat him back than. Now i feel like an idiot when i see someone use it
I knew it did, but I never really thought it necessary. You can just learn the attacks as well. Especially good practice for SL1 him :D
Or the old arrow strat if your lazy
Makes me feel better knowing I beat him without it
It's nowhere near as hard to skip using the pendant as he says. Takes the same amount of practice to learn to dodge or learn to use it
