In warhammer 40k there's a popular term called "mark of Dave" which means using the rules and stats for one item when the actual model is physically holding the representation of another. The term originates from a youtube channel called Miniwargaming that is kinda the gold standard in filming games of 40k. One of the co-owners, a guy named Dave, was infamous for substituting items that weren't modeled to the point that it got super confusing. Super random and it only makes sense if you're familiar with a specific guy on a specific channel for a super niche hobby.
Counter with rule of WYSIWYG
Me and my dipshit friends came up with, "Aight Abbadon, go try again" whenever we just keep failing at something.
I use a lot of wrestling jargon sometimes. "Take a bump" means fall over, "Sell" means reacting to pain, "Hey Rube" means a fight is breaking out, "Working" means lying, so on
Jesus, what a mark! :D
@@cerberus144 Lmao
Kayfabe is a way of life bro.
Jabroni is pretty weird
You forgot the catch all "gimmick." The amount of times i heard "hey demon, set up the x gimmick" or "we're doing the y gimmick" in training was stupid
"Real war is also trolling"
_- Paul Tzu, The Art of War_
All warfare is based on trolling
@@Malva597 *All warfare is trolling.
I mean in some ways the US were just a mechanical powerhouse, but they did have tactics, no doubt about it
I love how Badger whinges about not being revived, and then a few minutes later in the video is shown running past a squadmate he could’ve revived. He’s part of the problem.
8:00 19:05 Maxim 62: Anything labeled "This End Toward Enemy" is dangerous at both ends.
-- The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mercenaries
A man of culture, I see. :)
Pairs nicely with Maxim 15: Only you can prevent friendly fire.
Can I get a link to those maxims?
@@Caldoric It looks like youtube ate the link. Google "seventy maxims" and it will be both the first and second results.
My personal favorites are 1, 2, 3, and 37.
You should hear some of the slang and terms used in fighting game communities. We’ve got thinks like Oki, short for Okizeme, which is japanese for “Wake up attack”, basically going in to strike someone who’s knocked down. On a similar note, there’s your Meaty attacks, attacks that hit later in their activation, designed to strike someone the second they stand back up. There’s Unga Bunga, a sort of hyper aggressive rushdown playstyle… i could keep going.
as a support type character in most games I'm often told to "Spammer" which means set up turrets/mines at choke points or "Release the Dogs" is to launch drones
Unga Bunga is the form of fighting that utilizes the anger of said character no matter who you play. And yes, you can Unga Bunga with zoners.
@@yiddymcgriddy4304 mfw BBtag hilda: hehoo the whole screen is mine.
i figured unga bunga could be used to describe dps characters in mmos
@@Casandraelf honestly it originally came from a scene in Family Guy, you can find it pretty easily
20:25 Tiny tiny numbers? Dude, they made 400k of the thing, and literally upgraded the sturmzug to have this as their main weaponry.
Also the Soviets didn't take the Stg-44 and made it cheaper and reliable. They took the m1 garand and turned it into an machine carbine (assault rifle for the brain damaged). The Stg was the inspiration, not the base.
I love how Paul at the very end describing the perfect first person shooter is literally describing TABG
35:39 I'm pretty sure Badger calls any dropped bomb or launched explosive that has a significant blast radius a 'nuke'.
Large radius explosion=nuking
I mean yeah
I remember watching a video of a solder reviewing explosions in movies and said “are those grenades packed with nuclear material?”
so the optics and even the holo sights used ambient light to reflect the reticule on the glass... only problem is I think they were all developed for aircraft at the time and then made smaller after the war by the companies who made the aircraft optics just so they could still keep making money
I hate to be the "actually" guy, but the gun that became adopted as the STG44 was already in field trials as early as late 1943 on the Eastern front. It was never produced in huge numbers to make much of a difference (especially on the Eastern front where the number of people fielded is insane) but it was much more substantial than most of the "Wonderweapons" Germany or the Allies ever tried to field.
Well, to be exact, Ribbentropp-Molotov pact was in place and since 1939 till 1941, when a failed painter went to meet a failed priest, USSR was axis power.
Poland was partitioned by them for two years, Katyn happened in 1940, which was a deliberate massacre of officers and highly educated prisoners.
USSR became one of allied powers only out of necessity to create second front where Germans would bleed out their armies.
Well the last one is kinda bullshit. Germany literally invaded USSR but yea the pact was made to buy some time because the war was inevitable
Failed painter meets failed priest 💀
The weirdest slang i got is when i fell into a rabbit hole of a game called "Dead Ahead". When a aircraft carrier runs out of planes some players will tell the captain of the carrier to go full "Battlecarrier". The captain will go full throttle and bring the carrirer as close as they can to the island of Atoll and use its gun as fire support.
I kinda remember what you were talking about with American military not having tactics. It wasn’t that we didn’t have them but that we didn’t follow any standard doctrine. It was a “If we don’t know what we’re doing, then neither does the enemy” strategy
As a player of ARK survival evolved
My favorite slang term is “tickle chicken”
It’s for the Therizinosaurus if you’ve never seen one look it up and you’ll understand these things are herbivores that look like they’d put Freddy Krueger to shame
dont reminde me
i still get nightmares of those claws
*And* they're herbivores. What kind of herbivore needs katanas for hands!?
@@wesleyward5901 ones that want to strip food from branches and defend themselves from carnivores
11:36 nah covid was just another day every day for the last 2 years. I've witnessed people around me change some for the worse, some for the better. Nothing's really changed for me except bleeding more money now in this trash economy, lost a bit of weight, and kept chugging along for the most part.
"Americans relied on grenades and being able to build a lot of tanks."
"So a good strategy and logistics system? Thanks for the compliment bro. I'm sorry our tactics aren't as good as sending conscripts and penal battalions ahead of our trained troops, but strategy wins wars."
Since you mentioned the Soviets in WW2 and their small amount of diversity. Just wanted to mention if you've never heard of them: the 588th Night Bomber Regiment AKA "Night Witches" or "Nacht Hexen" as the Germans called them. They would also later be known as the 46th "Taman" Guards Night Bomber Aviation Regiment. I recommend reading up on them (Mainly because they have a story at least slightly longer than I'd be willing to put into a UA-cam comment.) Sabaton of course has also done a song about them titled "Night Witches"
Sabaton also did a song about them. Real banger, it is.
I got really into painting miniatures during covid, and a popular slang is ´Pile of shame´ referring to any unpainted minis left on the pile, and purchasing more minis despite this
I imagine that running an American restaurant would have an actually decent variety you could choose to make. Southern ribs/smoked meats, Chicago style hotdogs / deep dish pizza. Maryland crab/lobster, southern shrimp/fish fry. There’s a surprising amount of variety to American food that isn’t just fast food shit.
Paul: "All warfare is based on deception."
Viewer: What does that mean?
Paul: War is just trolling.
"The fact that they had good drip is Based." Boom, you said it XD
33:38 That's a Nydar model 47 from 1945. It doesn't use batteries, it uses ambient light
Plans can’t be ruined if there’s never one to begin with.
Some of the slang in the Speedrunning community is pretty funny, especially in specific games where a trick that saves is often named after the name of the person that discovered it.
Wanna know what's even worse about Dice? They've done every mechanic Badger mentioned in previous Battlefield games (spawning on teammates, skipping revives, etc.)
Fun fact if you got a crap ton of cash to blow there is a guy called LugerMan who custom makes brand new lugers in .45acp or 10mm the .45acp model was based on a design for American testing in 1907.
If you want one though its like 4000 USD as they are made custom to order and hand fitted.
Thanks for the tip
im never gonna financially recover from this info
15:11 Garand thumb tested out what happens if you shot someone with thumper before round can arm, let's say half of the time it was almost all the way through
27:27 oh there's a good reason for that squad bombing essentially the entire squad spawning in on one person and completely turning the course of an entire fight over a point this used to be a big problem in older battlefield games
BFV still has a fairly large player base. Most evenings you can find well over a dozen servers fully populated.
That comment on how things happened for people in Covid on the internet honestly rings true for me personally, during that time got into anime as something to watch, which led to looking at various anime memes, then looking into answers over a recurring character in some of those memes, and when quarantine was over... I now had an interest in the naval conflicts of the Second World War because of a fucking gacha game that took those same ships and turned them into waifus
I smell Azur Lane
@@pifilixxiv3192 Yeah... Atago's popularity was what caused me falling down that rabbit hole
I fell into Toni Santoro's rabbit hole when I discovered his channel "Crime pays but botany doesn't"
I just love being talked into asteraceae, hairy styles and stigmas, sporanges, campanulaceae phylogenetics, convergent behaviors and all that.
33:30 That Nidar optic was made after WW2 but was made sometime in the late 40s or 50s I’m pretty sure, so it’s honestly not really that absurd to include it in the game
I thought the same way you did on the mine on a stick thing. But it actually was made but it was put in the water so it can hit landing craft and amphibious vehicles. It was apparently fairly effective.
20:37 those things were around 1943 in mkb42 or later one, forgot name but there were few versions ranging from use in 42 to 45 on frontline
24:17 You forget this is a year old; back then the average player count was still around 30 THOUSAND players good sir.
Love the content keep it going🔥
The boom plunger was a real thing. The Japanese charged suicidally at American tanks trying to knock them out with these devices on many occasions. They usually didn’t make it too far.
Kamikaze: Not limited to planes anymore.
My favorite piece of slang from one of the communities that I’m a part of is “engine-rich exhaust”. It’s slang for when a rocket engine is burning up its internals.
My favorite thing to call someone in Ranked Play Video Games is "Boosted"
Implying that the person you're playing with is so bad, they had to pay for their Rank or get better friends to play for them.
pog/poggers means when a sufficiently cool event, like a high killstreak or sneakily back-capping a point and succeeding to defend it, is completed.
Shebob
to shovel mulch into containers
Wheelbob
to shovel mulch specifically into a wheelbarrow
BF5 had an uptick in players (as well as other Battlefield games) after 2042 was shown to be crap. Everyone would rather play the other stuff like 5, 4, 1 and even Hardline.
Hardline actually seems like it would be fun.
@@Dr_Monitor I went back and tried it first. Custom servers rock on it.
On console hardline is dead
Poggers is derived from the term POG which stands for Play of the Game, basically it means your going off on the enemies and if the fame had Play of the Game that clip would probably be it. I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense, but this is what I figured it meant and I’m sorry if the explanation isn’t that good.
"We could make it cheaper and more reliable," The Soviet Motto
25:57 this is why I like the anime "The Saga of Tanya the Evil" a loosely world war 1 (i guess) focused anime with magic
They just spam one thing and win time after time
Oh I fucking love that one
"how did these things get passed testing"
The people in charge don't play video games. And, as some of you have seen, they not only mock but ignore the community that put them were they are now. I'll add that some devs consider themself ABOVE the masses that buy whatever product they make.
How to open an American restaurant in a foreign country:
1: Serve whatever but at a 4 person portion and call it a medium.
2: Profit.
Got into military history and just military in general and i still remember the "Mk 1 Eyeball" which is what it is.
The whole thing about a 40mm being fatal without exploding, Garand Thumb did a video about that. 40mm practice grenades are lethal if you’re accurate with them. 40mm practice grenade headshots are pretty much fatal.
In the Transformers collecting community, we have "kibble". It refers to the parts of a transforming toy that make up one of its 2 or more forms that aren't in any way incorporated into the other modes. Like a robot that turns into a muscle car with wheels just hanging off its arms, or a jet that turns into a robot with just the entirety of the robot folded up underneath, not concealed at all.
As a brazilian, when I think about american food, burgers come to mind (like Hard Rock cafe, not fast food)
I've got some slang for you.
From a roleplaying game I play a lot
IC/OOC- In Character/ Out Of Character.
lrp- Low Role Play, meaning the person or server is not taking the game seriously, usually.
hrp- High Role Play, meaning the person or server is taking the game very seriously, usually.
Robust- someone who's incredibly good at combat. Also used to describe anything op or otherwise really good.
Emag- in reference to an item that corrupts things for your own use. usually means something isn't functioning right or is hacked in some way. used IC and OOC in lrp servers, used only OOC in hrp servers
Harmbatong/batong- referencing an image of someone asking, in broken English, where they can charge their stun baton. Think your MP baton with a taser on the end of it.
Malf- Malfunctioning AI. A gamemode type, where the ship AI goes rogue and is corrupted in some fashion, usually decided by the AI's player.
shitcurity- Security department being shitty in some fashion. Either being bad at their job, blood thirsty, or acting in stupid ways.
Honk

20:26 ugh my ACKCHYUALLY senses are tingling so much hahahaha
Quintessential American food here in England is waffles, full sized chicken thighs and liberal drizzling of maple syrup.
Moral of the story
"You can't fry that rice paper, you have to use peanut oil."
24:18 He's probably playing with all the people who dropped 2042 and for whatever reason didn't go back to BF1 or BF4
"How did all this pass testing?" Have you MET EA?
Actually, Stalin was, for a short time, working and apart of the Axis Powers.
The best shotgun experience has got to be Rising storm 2, those things are ridiculously fun. I mean with buckshot you can easily kill VC or GIs pretty consistently at 100m and even up to 300 if you’re lucky
Do you do requests for reaction videos? Love your work buddy
My great grandfather was in the pacific theater in 1941-1945, he was in the Philippines in the early days of the attack of Guadalcanal and the retaking of Guadalcanal and the Philippines.
He had a Springfield 03 rifle until late 1944 when he got a M1A1 , he was a Sargeant in the Tec 3 division. His unit was first in to secure bases and hold there position till the marines finally had a foothold and relieved them, then they were send foreward agian. Ooof.
My father's great grandfather had a Artillery luger from WW1 he used in both world wars as well as the last days in Germany his fathers Reichsrevolver as well as a trenchgun he got off a American in Africa in 1942.
In destiny 2, we refer to new players as Blueberries, because they start with rare gear which is Blue tier
i think the more depressing thing about a lot of early gasmasks is how bad they were. the silent death was common in a lot of gas mask users, where due to a faulty valve or improper filters or ventilization issues, you would quietly succumb to anoxia. horrifying shit.
27:25 All the issues with the spawn system are the result of "improvements" to the system. You can't spawn back in immediately after entering the spawn screen because people used to spam the button and then complain when they got a bad spawn because they didn't make sure they had the correct spawn selected or that the spawn was safe. You can't spawn on teammates in combat for similar reasons but also because sometimes you'd get a whole squad spawning on a teammate right before they die and suddenly the one guy you just barely beat turns into 4 fresh soldiers with guns pointed straight at you.
The bit about being sent straight back to the deploy screen for no apparent reason can have several causes. Sometimes it's because the spawn was lost as you were spawning in, either because your team couldn't defend the objective or because the person you were trying to spawn on died. Other times it's because conditions no longer allow you to spawn there, such as the building collapsed or just someone parked a vehicle right where the game was putting you. And yet other times it's simply you died before the spawn completed or the game recognized that conditions were such that you'd die right after spawning.
Me and my friends use the term “Smumpf’n it” for when you rush a tank with an explosive in enlisted.
I play a lot of the Magic the Gathering card game, so a lot of slang is a strange stew of references to older cards or just some cute name. For example you "fork" a spell if you are copying it, since the first card to copy stuff was called Fork. Another odd name is for a style of deck called "White Weenies", where you play as many tiny creatures and choke your opponent with bodies.
Another weird aspect is just some of the odd stuff that can happen thru play. For example, a normal red squirrel can go toe to toe with a soldier, and 13 can strike down Emrakul, the game's equivalent to Cthulhu. Fun stuff.
24:31
That isn't a beholder, that's a cacodemon from the DOOM franchise.
It is possible that one was inspired by the other.
Poggers/Pog/Pogchamp is twitch vernacular. It basically refers to a hype/exciting moment. It started in FPS games and stuff where someone would get a triple kill and everyone in chat would post Pogchamp, an emote. Then it got shortened/changed to Pog, Poggers, and so on.
Most of my odd slang is for games and only use them there
BB/BOB- there are nicknames for bunkerbaces in an mmo shooter war sim called foxhole (look It up)
A collie- a nickname for the colonials a one of two factions in foxhole (the other being the wardens the one I like to play)
Bmats- basic Materials foxhole once again
Steeve-a converted enemy in deep rock galactic
A suwee- a exploding enemy in zombie army
Have to say you were extremely accurate with the american restaurant in Brazil, I live here and it's exactly burgers, barbecue, breakfast and milkshakes

The red orb thing isnt a beholder, it a Caco demon from Doom.
one of my friends got hit by a delivery truck and we just started calling him failed isekai once he got fully recovered if that counts as slang
12:50 I totally understand but being born amongst a family full of Doctors/Surgeons and Company CEO's/CFO's isn't easy either. I have to work twice as hard as everyone else just so I don't get disowned ( FYI, That's a JOKE. )
The marker 10:18 that wasn't a gas mask in the last photo. That was a facemask for tank crews, to protect their faces from spall. Spall being the interior armor that is flaked off from the kinetic force of an object not piercing the armor but not entirely spacing out the kinetic force behind the object.
"that's a dirty 20" in ttrpg's when you roll and add a modifier and it equals a twenty which is the highest you can roll without a modifier.
for the slang itself, bush wookie'ing. play a lot of tactical shooters, this just means hiding in a corner like a rat, or in a bush like a rat.
Paul, the Holosights back them weren't using batteries to glow. It was Radium paint :D
I went down the model building rabbit hole, Gundam specifically
Some dumb slang from the internet I use is 001'd it comes from scp sub culture it means to have something really weird or unexplained happen to you for example "did you hear some dude broke into Joe's house to steal his milk?" "Really? Man Joe got 001'd."
Yo you should watch The saga of Tanya the evil, in your free time, or even better on the channel!
I have a feeling you’d like it!
It has a pretty prominent war setting, and it has really good battles, while also showing many sound war tactics you could comment on, oh but it is an anime so do what you want.
Yeah, russia pretty quickly understood that call of duty is a fantasy and they needed to adopt the American Tactics™ - raze any points of resistance with artillery/aircraft and pick off stragglers with land forces
It isn't cheaper, but it saves lives and morale on their end
American week in Lidl (i think german shop line) is: pancakes, burger sauce, bbq sauce, cookies, berry/apple cookies, pre made burgers, hot wings, nuggies... stuff like that

BFV actually saw a big resurgence in players after the predictable horrible launch of BF2042 and still retains many of those players.
An indie fps multiplayer, but everyone is T-Posing, too.
