Only weapons of mass destruction are banned in space.
Such as nukes, chemical weapons and biological weapons.
The treaty does not ban the use of conventional weapons.

So, basically, the difference between rockets and missiles (in this game) is that missiles need time to lock onto their targets. Rockets just go.
my thoughts exactly
And missles are better anyway, only like a handful actually need 30 second lock on times.
@@wesleyward5901 not for Ranger let’s be honest.
Same IRL, missile means guided, rocket is unguided. Missiles still have rocket engines. Like how a rifle is a gun but a gun isn't necessarily a rifle.

To be fair, the aliens here start out with a force ten times the size of the one they had in the previous game and then when that isn't working they pull out a _planetary ceiling_ on us, so I don't think they can be accused of not putting their best foot forward.

I’d play Air Raider because well what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger except for artillery (or in this case various kinds of airborne death) artillery will just fucking kill you
I agree as a high level Air Raider (enough to get Hand of God). It's less explosions endgame, and more like bright lines of light erasing everything in the general vicinity. Including your vision, your HP bar, and your frame rate.
Funnily enough, in EDF lore the dragons are actually evolved from the bees.

That whole "throwing more and progressively stronger enemies at humanity to make them stronger" is litterally the plot of the 2012 X-Com games.
The aliens telepathically tell you this as you fight your way to the final boss. With them explaining what was wrong with all the other species they came across in their journey amongst the stars.
Of course being humans once we get to the bridge of the mothership, instead of joining them we tell them were they can shove it.

"if a hammer works a bullet will work"
bro Fencer is nuts, his most powerful sniper rifle is a SWORD THAT CAN SLICE THE AIR FOR A THOUSAND YARDS TO DEAL MORE DAMAGE THAN A SMOOTHBORE TANK GUN
Yes, it's called the Dyna Force Blade and it's one of Fencer's more mediocre ranged options, because Fencer can also just dual wield the smoothbore tank guns to shoot twice as fast, and the sword needs to charge up its swings AND reload. The melee weapons have to RELOAD. Yes, I know. There's also a spear that shoots out from a fucking gun like it's a power pole and extends to like 200 yards, and it injects explosive plasma if it hits. There's also the Jackhammer, which is just a massive fist on a massive, powerful piston so you can play rockem sockem robots with Godzilla.
But my favourist is the Vibro Hammer, which lets you hit the ground to cause a fissure that can extend for 100 yards and deal AOE damage to everything it touches.
These aren't melee weapons, it's more helpful to think of them as funny looking guns that work weird.
If this is sounding like I'm having a psychotic breakdown and ranting about insane, implausible bullshit, welcome to Earth Defense Force, where the guy with the 45 round mag rocket launcher is the least powerful class in the game.
Do not forget the air raider who calls in super weapons that run the soul of your enemies and their final ultimate weapon is an absolutely batshit insane woman who hacks an enemy mother ship and uses their genocide gun (yes it's called that) against their own armies. 10:00 It's like how we say the Navy has twelve carriers ready to go, but in truth it's more like three ready to go, three mostly ready to go, and six more in various stages of maintenance. While Russia is there like "Da. We have huge navy. Very strong." but almost all of it is half-sunk in some neglected storage dock and half the systems have been replaced by post-its saying "Hey Dimitri I needed to pay off my car loan so I borrowed this desalination plant. Also correction on the Rod of God facts, a 20x1 Tungsten rod would not even be CLOSE to a nuclear, it would have the power of a teeny tiny fraction of the first nuke we made. If you don't believe me then look at the math yourself. Also its not financially viable to build a Rod of God satellite either at least not yet anyway.
Has an approximate yield around that of a MOAB if I remember correctly.
@@manticorigon4908 I'm unsure of this.
Yea that treaty about not weaponizing space was specifically about putting nukes in space, if i remember correctly.
@@talonus202 Indeed, the rod of God Is meant to get around that.
25:10 A while back I decided to see how much power the "rod of god" would have in theory. Most people that know the equations agree it would have about the power of a Moab. Also the reason behind America deciding to use a over glorified I-beam for it was because the treaty only said the ban of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons being used. Nothing about a giant i-beam.
Of course then there's Kessler Syndrome fears. The more effective the weapons you put in space are, the more incentive to smash them up. Then the wreckage from that makes space junk that knocks out a satellite... then the wreckage from both of those knocks out some more... then boom, there goes a lot of modern infrastructure.

This is the second version of the video. The first one that Badger uploaded was hit with youtube's no-no stick because the Wing Diver was wearing an outfit that looked like the middle ground between being vacuum sealed and body paint. that reminds me of the utter bats*** insane original origin for DC's Doomsday. Some Kryptonian scientist took an infant, and left it abandoned on prehistoric Kypton. Raytheon makes a shitload of bombs and smart munitions. They make the fucking Paveway, snd the Pyros which is used for drone strikes. So "Literally Raytheon" I'd say is pretty appropriate for the class that calls in bombing runs, actually.
The difference between missiles and rockets is that rockets are fire-and-forget direct fire weapons. Missiles require a lock on or some assist to keep them tracking target and usually have some basic kind of seeking function while rockets are just "it go that way" until it hits something or runs out of fuel or hits an in-air timer limit and goes off.
It's a pretty significant difference.
the perfect virus is arguably the Syphon Filter virus: definitely recommend looking that game up, it's lore is pretty interesting and it's fun.
My god, Syphon Filter.
24:26 the rods from god were actually something that gained most of their traction in the 80s. they would actually be incredibly difficult to get into orbit because of the weight and weapon design that makes them so theoretically dangerous.
The other reason that we have not deployed anything along that line is even easier. It immediately deletes mutually assured destruction. Those weapons give you between two and five minutes warning as the satellite moves into position to fire on you. At the end of that time whatever they're above dies. Thus it's been explained several times to miscellaneous presidents, Russian leaders and Chinese lifetime presidents that deploying those weapons is the beginning of a war... Against everyone. We've had the lift capability since the late 50s, since any ICBM is technically a incomplete space launch. But since there would be effectively zero warning, even your allies would have to presume you are going to Target them. Every 10 to 15 years we start talking about these kinetic orbital bombardment systems. Every time a new batch of plans gets published. Every time it stops right there. Some advisor or analyst sits down with the designer and the president, or whoever's representing him, and explains how bad an idea it would be.
not really though, its more like redesign it to be similarily built like a space station, sent piece by piece and build it in space
So for a bit of lore on EDF 4.1 (4.1 is the English version of the fourth game iirc) this is like the fifth time these stupid nerds have shown up to try and fight Earth, and the EDF was created specifically to fight the aliens so the treaty signed in the sixties was made null and void specifically because they knew the Ravagers would deploy mass amounts of ants and spiders. In Five (a reboot kind of, it’s an alternate universe or something like that) the EDF was made as a sort of unifying force, basically the UN but not useless. So they put orbital satellites up to help counter the aliens after like six months of the war so they just ignored the treaty to try and turn the tide of the war. It’s not actually said anywhere but it’s reasonable and makes sense.
4.1 is just 2025 but remastered and rereleased on PlayStation and PC, shame there's no Xbox One port.
@@kabob0077 thank I couldn’t quite remember the order of events that lead to 4.1
Yeah, 4.1 and EDF 5 never got launched on xbox one. The last JAPANESE EDF game we got was 2025. Yeah. 2025. 4.1 but much more vanilla. And basic.
EDF games reset the continuity after every odd numbered game i.e EDF 1+2, EDF 3/2017+4.1, and EDF 5 + EDF 6 take place in different universes.

9:26 Paul explaining why Badger isn't _wrong_ when he calls the US Military Complex the "Final Boss of Planet Earth".
Paul's rant about aliens creating a war-resistant superbug race of people is basically just the plot of XCOM2
some games justify the ecalating enemy strength as them underestimating your team, not realizing how much a threat you are until youve started dong things only a main character could do, or your team avoiding hhitting harder targets until they are ready with response teams being treated as an enemy that evades the mission near the middle or end who you have to avoid or flee from.
38:00 Actually, high rise buildings do quite good at reducing heat propagation and radiation. Since it's airburts, it wouldn't even destroy them for most part, so buildings in the shadow of scyscrapers and the like are pretty well shielded.
When you mentioned the "rods from God" thing, you neglected to mention that these rods are basically the size of telephone poles. Also, (if that one G.I.Joe movie is to be believed,) those things definitely do offer all the fun of a nuclear blast, but without most/all the nuclear radiation fallout afterwards.
Agreed. Badger's work best as a team.

In lore it's pretty much just coincidental or game-mechanic-first driven, iirc the plot of this game is a 'second wave' after repelling basically the scouting-in-force group. Some of the first stuff is the insect eggs just hatching from the first invasion, then the actual ravagers- the aliens proper- turn up with what seem like terraforming etc efforts, and more traditional 'scaling' of offensive.
Though that training theory is interesting, coincidentally it'd also sort of fit with the fact that you get armor and weapon drops just... out of all the enemies you kill. If it was in-lore, it'd be a bit on the nose, but that could also be a more technologically advanced alien/god sort of drip-feeding technology to their new wartime species, alongside the 'practical' test of forcing humanity into combat.
So apparently I found out that the .45 ACP was used on a cow back in 1904 during the Thomson LaGarde, I only found this out from watching a video for the M1911 by a someone who goes by the name “The Fat Electrician” and one who his videos was about a submarine that attacked a harbor full of ships after getting through a mine field and got away with it after caused lots of damage and was the submarine to have attacked a ground target with rockets which lead to modern sub’s and being the only sub to have the rights of destroying a train

Raytheon makes the C79 ELCAN scopes found on a lot of our 249’s and 240’s. Also missiles and rockets have a military distinction, being that a rocket has no guidance, but missiles are guided even in the most rudimentary way.
The ORIGINAL Fallout Super Sledge actually made sense as a hammer that was stronger than a gun. It used a motor that PERFECTLY stored kinetic energy and released it the second it his someone. So swinging your hammer at someone has literally no wasted energy, even the backswing if you use it.

And there's Iron Rain.
A note on that possum thing- it being chill is related to possums playing dead, it's a survival instinct. They don't visibly freak out because a lot of predators that would eat them have instinctual reactions to small objects moving fast, especially small furry animals trying to run away. Fleeing at high speed triggers the "kill this thing instantly" reflex in most North American predators.
The Tomahawk and a bunch of other guided missiles are in Raytheon's catalog if I remember right, plus they own Pratt and Whitney so they get the engines.
Raytheon actually makes a lot of different types of missiles. From what i found they make about three types of surface-to-air missiles (including the FIM-92 Stinger), four types air-to-surface missiles, three type naval surface to air missiles, four types of air-to-air missiles, two types of anti tank missiles (including the FGM-148 Javelin), four types of standard naval missiles, and two types of cruise missiles. Apart from missiles, they also a make an air-to-surface glide bomb, a laser-guided bomb, a guided artillery round, a hand full of sonar equipment, a good number of anti-missile systems, and a small unmanned aircraft called the Coyote.
17:48 generally the distinction between rocket and missile is that a missile has a guidance system

In edf the enemy scaling it is a mix of two things lore. 1 it is the rate of deployment. The monsters are evolving thats were you get it. And 2 they think of us that lowly that throwing a real weapon or bio weapon would just be a waste of resources. Untill its too late. At lest that is two of the main lore i remember but each games also have some other reasons.
I think the funniest thing about these games is that difficulty doesn't increase enemy damage or numbers or decrease player damage. It increases the amount of friendly fire damage that you take.
Oh no, trust me, it most certainly increases damage, health, and numbers. Currently playing through hard mode and I've encountered an ant mutation that just doesn't exist in lower difficulties

i know that some of you already know the stuff but for one who doesn't know about why there is "reupload" written at the title : apparently, badger use the original model for the wing diver and they make some........ *ahem* "that" sound so youtube strike him down

33:25 well or Warhammer 40K; Where you have things like Swords and Axes that project energy fields around their blades and let them cut akin to Lightsabres. Giant hammers that release all of that energy at once in such a concentrated fashion that it can smash trough tank armor. Or even the comparatively humble Chainsword that has a fusion power cell, crazy torque and teeth made from a ceramic diamond hybrid that has a monomolecular edge and doesn't need to be sharpened. But big guns still do exist!
This game is so damn fun. It's basically anime Starship Troopers
I'm so sorry to have to fix the preconception that rockets=missiles. Rockets are unguided ordinance propelled by a rocket engine, while a missile is a guided munition that can but doesn't have to be propelled by a rocket engine, most use jet/rocket engines but there are some that use ram jets and hybrid propulsion.
usually the swords in anime have some other reason they work better then military weaponry, maybe the cost is too high for ammo made in the new super metal, but a sword wont run out of ammo

I think you can also apply this to literal asteroids. Imagine if nations were to weaponized literal rocks from space. I think a rock that's, at least, 10 times the size of a human can cause serious damage. Unless I got it wrong...
watch Expanse or read the books the Outer Planets Alliance does just that causing massive casualties and inevitably forcing humanity to leave earth due to ecological damages
Most objects entering the earth’s atmosphere burn up as they come down, sometimes into nothing. It would have to be a pretty serious sized rock to survive entry and cause damage from there.
In EDF speak missiles are smartfire tracking munitions that cannot be fired without locking onto a target, and rockets are dumbfire munitions that just go in a straight line. Badger's not right to say that rockets are ALWAYS better, but they do tend to be the safer option for the most possible situations if you're not sure what to bring into a mission.
I was waiting for this reaction video, top notch work
Quick note about putting weapons in space: They are far scarier than nukes! The reason is that we as a species are reluctant to use nukes for fear of rendering the earth uninhabitable (for us) for thousands of years. There is no such issue with putting a big metal rod dispenser in space, the energy yield is on par with nukes but without the ionizing radiation. Its the kind of weapon governments would not hesitate to use. If we ever do put weapons in space... There will be no equivalent M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction.) diplomatic policy to prevent its use between superpowers.
As described by the Fat Electrician, even a tungsten rod is incapable of matching our first atomic weapons, it would only reach the same energy output of the Mother of All Bombs, the largest non-nuclear bomb ever detonated.
From what I've heard if stellar empires become a thing the most successful one will be the ones that pull the triggers on their planet killers first, and never ask questions
@@samuelcrow4701 That assumes that their aggression won't be recognized by others and met pre-emptively in the future. It seems like the fastest way to assure the death of your empire by outside forces is to firmly establish a reputation as an existential threat that can't be negotiated with.
this is incorrect, the diplomatic policy for if someone drops a non nuclear weapon on you with nuclear destructive potential, IS to nuke them, thats what MAD is, not meeting nukes with nukes, but saying "if it looks like im going to lose im taking everyone with me, so you better not try"
"If a hammer works a bullet will work"
Construction workers:
"These math nerds can turn that into a grid" god I love this gawdamm channel.
The EDF series feels like 40+ hour long versions of those cabinet rail-shooter games at a bowling alley.
I’m so honored that you almost caught me in the blast zone of China’s ICBM
We're on that Packman Military budget
Nukes are kinda nuts. On average when a nuke goes off, in the first few milliseconds of detonation, everything within a 2 kilometer sphere is instantly vaporized.
most a US tank has ever sat was when it hasn't been shipped back from Canada when an issue that made it undriveable occurred so it gets left until the Canadians repair it enough to send it back (not sure if that happens much now a days but my step dad was once in the military and told me that was what happened once, probably happened a few more times but who knows)
Man, I broke out laughing hard at the anecdote about the opossum and the shovel
So fun fact the original video was demonetized due to the wing diver making suggestive noises when stuck in the giant spiders webs
Today I learned that the world made a treaty saying we cant weaponize space.
I've been wondering that for a while now, why we dont see weapons in space. Thanks Paul :)
I gotta say this. In one of the older Earth Defense Force games the Ravagers DID in fact try to blot out the sun with these little octangular ships that kinda fuse together and both block the sun and rain hell onto the earth. Fortunately for EDF however, these octangular placements had weak points when they opened up to release drones. So in the end in inevitably failed.
It isn't really older. 2025/4.1 are one of the most premier EDFs. And those are basically the game before EDF 5, which is just basically a remodeled, rewritten EDF 4.1 but EDF 2017 at the same time
As someone that was born in Los Angeles and moved when i was like 2, I understand your feeling toward L.A. Literally the only good part of visiting L.A. is the weather.
Oh Theres a spider * uses Giant Laser to destroy spider and earth *
If you can rope 2 or 3 friends to play this with you its awesome, I have been playing EDF 5 with friends and the amount of friendly fire hilarity and insane weapon combinations is crazy. Its good mindless fun.
I like how he completely ignored the wedding bombings and went straight to NATO budget comparisons.
If I am in this scenario I’m grabbing a 3 pound weight, and hittin spiders with it.
It’s actually not a bad distinction to differentiate a missile and a rocket. A rocket is generally a fire and forget and it goes straight at whatever you’re shooting at and then it will just blow up whenever it hits something. A missile is actual vehicle innocence powered by a rocket that actually has a computer on board that will steer and guide and make sure that that payload reaches its destination before it explodes. Basic differentiation to have is one is smart when is stupid. But one is also faster to deploy than the other.
