    If I had this car and was going to do an engine swap, I would go for the 3.5 litre V6 from the Camry with some 6 speed manual transmission. Naturally aspirated, would probably put down 200-220rwkw, and an engine note to die for. Perfect.

    Use to look after one for a friend here in the UK. Good strong engines that can be tweeked to 380hp and they drive like stock. One must is a stand alone manigment system bigger turbo with a tubeular exhaust bigger injectors and fuel pump i used a big chargecooler .... go very well at that power if not a little flighty on full boost ...

  • @xhisors200
    @xhisors200 3 роки тому

    Having just gone through a lot of this on my 91 mr2. Depending on the power you want to make, its just a few mods and you have around 300hp to the wheels in a car that weighs as much as a shoe box. ECU, supra 550 injectors(can also swap out for a top feed rail and high impedance injectors if you wanted to delete the resistor pack), walbro 255 pump and a CT27 from ATS racing would be right at the 300 mark. Plenty of other options for turbos of course; I went with a GT3071. Stock exhaust manifold can hold upwards of 700hp. When you pull it off for the turbo swap have it checked for flatness when you put it back on, they have a common problem of having an exhaust leak. Dizzy is fine and can make plenty of power on it if its in good working condition. Some people say to go coil on plug because dizzy has a timing drift problems at higher RPM.. not sure if thats entirely true, but my dizzy was completely toast and after trying to make two others work I just did the conversion. ECU to get rid of all the old bits like the AFM plus if you are going for more than 250 on the 91 you outgrow the factory one anyway and fairly quickly. Assuming it has a functional TVIS still, keep it in place and just have your tuner adjust the opening point of it(OEM is ~4200rpm), its good for low end torque with no loss of power top end.
    At the end of the day, you can have a fully built Bottom end with a bulletproof head and make 500 to the wheels. You can be more conservative and do a few simple mods and be around 300 and still have an extremely awesome MR2.

Currently it's putting out 335awkw ( all wheel drive ) with a gtx3076r , e85 and a haltech running it , and still off the distributor for crank and cam signals . Put the time , and the effort into a 3s and she will absolutely boogie . More than happy to talk further about what's done to mine to get up there , if you want to message me ! Your mate at gforce is very switched on too . I'd be keen to say hi to him to see what he could suggest with the next step for mine

  • @25LQW
    @25LQW 3 роки тому

    he is right about everything being on the limit. mods would be basically everything. say if you just change the turbo, g25/external wastegate/piping to suit/manifold to suit/custom make it fit to exhaust/make fit intake pipes/ECU/wiring/all the sensors/flex-fuel/IC7/injectors/fuel rail/FPR/fuel pump/fuel lines(speedflow etc). then if you do that you will have to go aftermarket inlet manifold/TB and intercooler. COP conversion is easy and pretty cheap, use the dizzy for crank signal. that is just engine related stuff and I'm sure I've missed something.

    Leave it. I don’t care if it means less content, I’d sit on it and let the value go up.

    The 3s is a great motor for its time, but the block cracking from cylinder 2 to 3 is well now a that's the reason y many go 5s block but still comparing a k to 3s is like saying the 7mgt is better than a 2jz come on grow up guys

    either work the infamous 3s or 2gr swap it. K swap is mostly popular in the US where parts and engine availability are aplenty
    Bit of 3s history, very under-rated motor:

    How many unmolested are left? If you've got a good one, as you have, DON'T MOLEST IT! If you want a fast toyota, get a supra...

      Supras are not in the same price point as an MR2.
