I've had my OnePlus 9 pro for 3.5 years and this phone is still a beast. Buying a new iPhone every year is seriously excessive
As a dude who in the olden times would not have enough money to buy a quest outright BUT definitely could pay 25 bucks a month, I can say that I would jump on that deal. That's basically the third of a cost of a AAA game these days.. Very easy to justify. I think this could be pretty huge.
Payment plan is always a nice option.
I love how you don't just make ADHD content but just passionately talk about VR. Love it!
I've owned every major console for the past 25 or so years, but never been a PC gamer. Only with the addition of the PSVR was I able to get in on VR and recently made the jump to the Quest 3. I love it. VR to me is like another experience for gaming. Sometimes I want to grab my Vita or Switch and play something on the go, sometimes I want an awesome AAA blockbuster game on my huge TV with the thundering surround sound and all the bells and whistles. And sometimes I want to immerse myself in another world with a good VR game. All completely different experiences, but all enjoyable for what they are. I'm all in on VR being a big part of my favorite hobby going forward.
I see that flatscreen being more comfortable if you're used to sitting but flatscreen and monitor/tv felt like an ancient technology now knowing that VR device can have multiple flatscreen floating around your environment.
Not to mention doing all the action without having to memorize buttons or setting up a joystick/mouse sensitive is a true next level
@@toututu2993It’s actually refreshing playing vr games from time to time, that way you never get bored of gaming
WOW, that is such a good deal, 25 a month and 2 years free games, nice one Meta!
The one problem I see is how many people will be unable to use it due to motion sickness and then be stuck with 2 years of payments. Also, a lot of people will get bored with it after 6 months and be stuck with $25 a month payments for the next 18 months.
VR's biggest hurdle is people not being able to try before you buy.
@stephenbull2026 Watch how Meta starts bricking devices when ppl lapse in payments...which will then open the door to brick the device/bans from Meta network access, for any reason they see fit...
I ordered my Quest 3 last night on sale for $429 from Wal-Mart after watching your videos and chatting with you. I tried ordering on Amazon for the same price and it said it was no longer available when I hit add to cart.
Edit: They're available on Amazon for $429 for the 128GB.
They totally need to redo Stormlands for Quest 3 (mobile)
one thing in the "must make concessions due to cost" explanation is that there is no One Size fits all when it comes to something that needs to conform to one's head and face. Even if Meta went all out on a more elaborate strap and facial interface it would add cost, and perhaps volume to the shipping product and it would still be uncomfortable for some or many users. Having a functional strap that adds very little to the manufacturing costs AND shipping weight can mean a lower overall price that can then be addressed by the end user who may prefer a halo strap vs a quest elite style one. I mention the shipping volume as a very real consideration because I have seen people ask why they just don't include an elite strap in the base package. Doing so would bring the box back to the size of there initial quest 1 or 2 size which is much larger than the quest 3 and has a knock on effect on the costs of packaging, shipping and storage for inventory surplus. Costs that tend not to be thought about by the end consumer and when you are talking about even fractions of a penny at the scale of millions of units that starts to be real money.
I've been waiting for this to happen. The smartphone boom came about when these expensive devices were made more affordable through monthly payments (even when the total price was much higher). The killer app that might actually kick off the VR age might just be a payment plan.
@@rikiba851 "U will own nothing and love it...."
you are correct that a smart phone is in the "need" category. But not a $1000 to $1500 flagship phone from Apple or Samsung.
In that situation, it's back in the want category because you could get a cheaper phone and save well over 500 dollars. I think the general public would rather spend that extra money on their everyday use phones than a VR headset they might only use a few hours a week.
Yeah there's definitely an overlap between want and need when it comes to smart phones. Likewise with how frequently people upgrade them. But you're also right that if people are going to spend extra on a luxury, they're more inclined to do so on a device that's more central to their life.
The contract/financing model of smart phones also helps a lot. Most people have no idea what their phone actually costs.
That financing/service subscription plan could be a game changer. I've been calling on Sony to do that with PSVR 2 and PS+ Premium for a while now.
The downside is that it's Meta that did it. I know a lot of people love them, but they're already so dominant in the industry and this will only expand their lead. Competition is a good thing, and despite the AVP, there still isn't really any actual substantial competition in the VR space.
As for Meta opening up their software/OS so it can be used by competitors, that doesn't create competition, it offloads a burden from Meta. They lose money on their hardware and make it back on software. Companies selling XR hardware with Meta's software on it are doing Meta a favour. And anyone concerned about Meta's shady practices of harvesting data from their users won't be comforted by the notion that their software/OS will be on more and more devices.
Hopefully other companies can adopt that financing/service business model and start gaining traction. The VR industry (and XR as s whole) desperately needs actual competition.
@@GreyMatterShades U have no idea what this will allow them to do later on...🤦🏿♂️
For me personally, VR has completely replaced flat-screen gaming, but I'm aware that I am in the vast minority. Most of the credit here probably goes to the presentation of technology in '94-'95, which made a huge impression on me as a kid. Now I got what I was promised back then and even more considering the motion controllers.
I haven't played pancake for years lol
No more console play for me
New technologies take time for users and fanbase to grow.
It got nothing to do with the quality or what people want.
7 years for commercial market is nothing.
VR and AR is easily amazing and is actually better than anything else, it just need time to grow.
Do you expect all those gamers who had spend $3,000 to dedicated to flatscreen gaming be comfortable to jump right away to VR and experience how superior it is than what they paid so far?
@@toututu2993yeah I love vr, I just got a quest 3 but it’s taken a lot of adjusting to like it. It’s surreal that everything is right in front of you and you have to swing your arms to fight rather than hitting a button on console. I alternate between console and vr, just because I’m getting used to it. Vr definitely has a long way to go 😂😂
@Dinool Vr hit its peak with the Quest 2 ....and has been moving backwards ever since...
That Play Now, Pay Later deal is nuts. You save $92 compared to just buying a Quest 3 128GB + 24 months of Quest+, but you get to pay it over a period of 2 years. Of course, it's financed, so there's likely a huge hidden penalty if you ever miss a payment, but still, that's kind of nuts.
@@bblvrable Focus on that hidden penalty...smdh🤦🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
I started in VR with the Meta Quest 2 and a medium spec pc. i slowly tried out the Meta apps until i had fully climatized myself to VR where i no longer feel any negative effects even after long periods. after about 6 months though.. i was ready for a pc upgrade so i could fully immerse myself in games. it wasn't until i fully upgraded to a RTX 40series 16gb graphics card and 5800x3d cpu that i can finally play like the walkthrough videos you see of VR games.
to sum it up, in my experience you can enjoy VR with no pc if you are ok with "mobile-style" games. but if you really want to immerse in VR then you will need a gaming pc as well.
No mention of the Pimax Chrystal Light. I think Pimax stepping into the "affordable" VR headset lane is pretty remarkable. It is an amazing headset for the price and certainly a go-to for sim gamers.
The quest 3 audio is so much better I know longer need an audio solution. Finally good bass and volume. Not tinny at all.
OK mother trucker, I have found myself watching your videos every day since I got my quest 3. You got my subscription lol great vids.
@@thothdelrune great to hear it. Thanks for the support
Based on the fact the Meta OS is open now. I think in 3 or 4 years we will see a good competition of supporting headsets. Prices going even lower, with multiple variations and innovations.
But is it really competition if the software is the same. Any manufacturer using Meta's software on a "competing" headset is doing Meta two favours. 1) They're allowing Meta to monetize more customers through sales and data collecting, and 2) Meta can do it without needing to lose money on hardware themselves.
Also make no mistake, it's Meta's monetization of software which allows them to sell their hardware at a loss. Other hardware manufacturers won't be able to monetize software to the same degree as Meta if they're using Meta's software (since at very least a cut of sales will be going to Meta). So other hardware manufacturers won't be able to sell their devices at the same sort of loss, and will therefore always be at a price disadvantage.
@@GreyMatterShades I agree, meta still has the edge, but remember that any game developer will be able to create games, so not only meta monetizes on software. Also other headsets will automatically inherit a great amount of games in their library. Making them relevant without spending a dime on software. I think it is a win win situation. Let's say at some point Microsoft creates a headset. At the same time, some of their exclusive game developers launch some of the popular franchises for VR. Even if Meta has the head start, doesn't mean that other more experience game companies won't be able to compete. As far as I know, just because they share the same operating system, doesn't mean all games will be compatible with all headsets
Another great video - thanks for putting care into your work and creating a solid product, Matteo! I’m curious how bundling Q3 or Q3S when buying a new phone might work… could be successful to roll it all into one monthly bill or for carriers to throw in a Q2 with a new phone.
I think Apple Vision Pro might release a gaming headset. I’ve heard about it. I mean we do need Quest 3 alternatives. Kinda tired of meta quest being the only standalone vr option on the market honestly
There's Pico as well which is also standalone, but Quest is the best product yet.
Valve is working on SteamVR silently, and they built an entire supply chain to release Steam Deck, they are in position to release their standalone VR in the future as well.
I love these positive outlooks, I really do. And I am 100% there with you, it does feel like VR picked up the pace a lot in the past 12 months. I am currently in a bit of a slump, but that's mainly due to being overwhelmed by picking which game I want to play and sink my teeth into. But there were several just recently that I started playing and had to complete. So I really can't complain. Probably gonna go look into Hellsweeper, they just added back the bhaptics integration that broke with the full release. That might be fun.
Any idea when play now, pay later will be available in Canada?
Smartphone business model, smart.
i remember razer wanted to do the monthly thing too not only that but they wanted to make their computers completely modular and make it so you had to trade in current parts for newer parts. imagine meta did a modular headset and you were given higher ppd panels, better lenses, straps etc on a yearly basis.
25/month 2 years is a lot more than $500 upfront though. still good for people that are bad with money i guess.
Really hope 6 years tops before this VR tech is mainstream and well developed.
I absolutely think ten years is a reasonable time horizon for XR to be fully mainstream. It’s sort of akin to what happened with Gen-X and Millennials making traditional flatscreen video games go mainstream. Once we (two whole generations types) had grown up with the technology, it was ubiquitous.
Gen-Z and Alpha are also going to be the ones that ultimately normalize and mainstream XR and all its adjacent technologies and services.
Biggest issue with vr is the inability to play with friends who don’t have a headset yet. With racing games everyone from pc to console to vr can all play together with whatever they have. Every major game needs that kind of basic support. That’s how it goes mainstream like triple or ultra wide monitors.
now i imagine a new valve standalone headset like the quest that has better steamlink. It could be really cool
Wonder why meta didn't release the cheap mq3 first then the good one. Seems this would have made it easier for people to transition from mq2 to mq3
I'm enjoying my quest 3 and quest 2 but it would be great with a wider side view as well 😢
I'm now able to get TWO Q3 with this low down payment plan! Excited!❤
Did you jump on the deal? Wondering how it’s working out for those who have.
Love your videos always informative and love how you check out indies.
Great move by Meta i agree, it just gets people in VR, if they could get contracts, a free one with internetprovider for new contracts when people join would also be a good move.
This video is a balm for my VR skin, thank you so much Matteo!
I need to get a new eyeglass rx so I have an excuse to update to the Quest 3. Never thought I'd want my eyesight to get worse. 🤪
I can't wait for xr glasses to be viable. Having a GPS HUD and games like pokemon go would be great. Maybe history facts so I can take walking tours in old cities would be something fantastic. A book app would be fantastic as well. Reading a book while on my break at work would be fantastic as well.
You wanna hear the real future of VR?
There is no deckard.

Into the radius 2 july 24th. Finally
Where or when is this offer going to be available I don't see it on the meta site?
It's going to be US only, at least to start. I've got no idea when it launches or where it'll be offered. If you google "Meta play now pay later" you should be able to find more info.
Yo when does this payment plan thing start. I’m totally down.
Hey Matteo One thing that we need to fix is to give our controllers some extra buttons. Like bumpers, and tell me controller mapping and gaming mechanics wouldn’t be simpler.
My rift s and quest 2 are gathering dust in the corner of my room. Same with everyone I know who got one.
That's called anecdotal. Your experience doesn't represent everyone else's
the only to get the headset small and light is to solder everything in cpu ram, memory ... like apple did with M1, M2 Cpu
But the AVP is 20% heavier and it's battery is external compared to the quest
i really hope the next quest is super super light... quest 3 is just too dam heavy, no matter what i do
That’s the System seller of a deal !!! Time to spread the News !!
Most people don’t need a $1000-$1200. They want $1000-$1200 every year. You can get a very capable phone for $600 and make make it last a couple years.
I have no problem with a 3-year release schedule. If you want better games, you need better hardware. The only issue I have with that scenario, is when they decommision older hardware even though they still function as they should.
Is it a META payment plan, like they do banking at Meta now?
OR is it s 3rd party deferred interest loan where if you miss a payment you owe a lot more money?

It is interesting how niece VR is yet see how much money massive market moving companies like Apple and Meta are putting into it. Meta being a new name from Facebook. There is Huge conviction in this space and that is exiting for sure.
Would like to see an official meta aim controller. No fan made magnets on pvc pipe crap.
That would be pretty cool, especially since they also have hand-tracking so you could still do some basic world interaction and have manual reloads.
I've just finally upgraded from Quest 2 to Quest 3.
I've been in the VR community since HTC Vive was cool. (Was it though? 😆)
If it wasn't worth the investment, I wouldn't have shilled out for $1,300AUD for a Quest 3 and Kiwi Design gear (thank you Matteo for the recommendations over the years).
Also, I just sold the idea to my manager to buy a VR headset, yesterday lol😅.

There was a lot of buzz for the vision pro on release, but not much now. Im not really sure how well it is going to go. It's amazing for productivity and media, not good for gaming ATM. I realise the 1st get device is more of a showcase so I think it all comes down to what apple release next. I would love to try one.
Im actually surprised it isn't getting the hate that PSVR2 gets now its been out 6 months saying its dead. On the Modded Flat screen side I am getting into now me and some friends got Mech Warrior 5 Mercenaries to run in VR and it is AWESOME play in a squad with your friends (some of which DON'T have VR). Ii you like Gian Robot This is a MUSTtry experience but the game does need a good amount of mods to be a TRUE Mech Warrior experience but being able to be IN the cockpit with VR is OUTSANDING!!! This is unfortunately the place VR is in still, the BEST bang for your buck is flat screen games that are Modded to support VR, Simulators are especially good because the don't need motion controls, so if you already have a HOTAS or Steering wheel you are SET!!! and the modders don't have to struggle with getting motion controls to to match with your character's actions on screen to you. If only AAA developers were as DEDICATED as the modders that are making these VR mods for games like Resident Evil for PC, GTA, CyberPunk 2077, and 7 Days To Die, we could have a world were you could take you Favorite Flat screen game and just throw on a headset be be able to jump INSIDE you characters SHOES and JUST PLAY the game you love with all jour frieneds whether they have a Headset or NOT

700$ for a quest 3 here in sweden
Well, in the Swedish currency of clogs and leigerhosen, that comes to 500 USD.
I don't think Meta Quest is the answer that you think it is for VR. First of all, Meta want games to be exclusive to the Quest platform, this hurts VR and limits the sale of games to just the Quest platform, so those of us that don't use Quest don't buy these games, where if they were on the other platforms we would be buying them.
The reason I don't have a Quest is because it's face plate is just too small and when I have tried it, the IPD range didn't work for me, as I have and IPD of 75mm. I have not tried the Quest 3, I don't know anyone with one to test. I do own a Pimax 8KX and a PSVR2, both of these work for my IPD. I did have a Vive and a Vive Pro and these catered for 75mm IPD. I did try the Vive Pro 2 and the HP Reverb G2, both of these did not work for me, there IPD range was not large enough, and the Reverb G2 face plate was far too narrow and uncomfortable.
@hughmac7423 you are underselling the quest my a large margin. The vast majority of vr games would not be profitable without the quest and it makes up roughly 90% of the games sales. Exclusives are a part of the game industry for better or worse. The limit to sales here is minimal though
Quest is open to Steam VR, applab, sidequest, gamepass, android emulators, along with native and rift games. They're quite non restrictive, especially compared to Sony and the PSVR, which is tied to one ecosystem currently. Most games on Quest are not exclusive. Meta selling products at a loss and giving a lot of bang for your buck is doing a lot for VR. The Valve Index is old and outdated and still being sold full price for a grand. And I also found the Quest 3 faceplates smaller size uncomfortable, since its too curvy. I bought an adjustable aftermarket faceplate and that helped a lot.
Meta wants exclusives, but they are also giving away their OS so any other manufacturer of headsets out there can get access to those exclusives, most likely, by adopting Meta OS.
Exclusives aren't as big of a deal when it turns into a Windows situation. There are windows exclusive games, but no one cares, because Windows is what 95% of gamers use. Meta OS seems destined to be the Windows of VR. It's not so much of an exclusive if everyone gets it.
The Quest 3 hit most of the XR check marks and does them standalone, and at a price point that middle class people would be generally willing to pay.
It is NOT the best at anyone one thing, but because it does do *most* things, I will die on a hill defending that the Quest 3 is the most VERSATILE headset on the market.

The subscription plan approach through possibly a phone company is what I was saying was going to be the only way that the Apple Vision Pro would be a success. I guess the iPhone people didn’t mention that to them. Somehow Zuckerberg saw it before them. Should have been a no-brainer for Apple since they already have ties with the phone companies. I don’t know how Zuckerberg is going to do it (face book?)but still a good idea.😈

I have to disagree about the joy of payment plans for entertainment. It enables people who cannot control their finances to do excessive spending and probably keeps them in a bad financial situation. They should learn to save up money instead.
Normally I 100% agree but that's because most payment plans exploit people. This ends up being cheaper than a direct purchase of the q3 and quest plus

Actually. been thinking about disconnecting my service because the only calls that I do get are scam calls.
Also on a side note, I was pretty underwhelmed with the AVP. I tried it the day it came out. I really hope that is not what top end VR is. I was expecting more from Varjo or Pimax? Both of which I have not tried.
Apple vision pro is like ....hey, you forgot about me 😂
Great points. But it's not all hype when people say "VR is the best". I still feel that way, even after about 7 years of it.
To me VR is just so much more immersive, and that's the whole point of games for me. Interactivity and immersion.
If "best" meant max realism in graphics with the highest production quality, while staring at a screen the whole time, we'd all just watch movies.
If I want to be immersed in a virtual world, I used to play flat games, but now I just go straight to VR almost every time.
Just hope for better content and a lot less shovelware!Out of the hundreds of games what come out every year theres maybe 2-3 that are decent on the standalone hardware plus most of it is really shallow as well
you can't use some form of Libre office, at the same time as your messenger and cell feed.
So meta is really keeping us from multitasking google play apps, on purpose.
the q2 could do multiple speadsheets, a couple word dox, a cell link, and mssgr all athe same time in diff windows
they are purposefully limiting its usability.
I am so glad the vision finally is here
would never buy an apple product
but
wham
6 months later meta is finally fixing the os
why do I still not have control over the shortcuts and windows I want before me at the start??
there's room for all 10 of my favorite things why do I have to look at the meta crap. I want buttons.
meta BS.
We need to get past that.
What VR needs most is software thats not overhyped garbage as most games that come out lately. I can't remember a game in the past time that hooked me or was worth the time. Most devs don't see VRs true potential, the way mechanics should be designed and so on.
So as long as we don't get a change there they can make hardware as much as they want to gather dust.
Sounds like someone needs to become a developer. You have all the answers so surely you will fix VR.
@@A-P-Eboys nah i don't have all the answers i just see and feel things and most are wrong in my perception and overall i enjoy and agree alot with what mr. vrvoice says about the state of VR.. tbh i didn't touched my headset in a long while. Some days ago i got house of the dying sun but at the end i just played it on my TV.
There’s quite a Meta bias going on here dude, can the next VR news be less about brand promotion?
Meta is winning.
Hard to not talk about the leader.
I think last I checked meta was winning on steam as well.
Meta is VR by a large margin
@@DavenBigelow All the more reason to objectively cover a broader market rather than drum beat the dominant player like its news sponsored by the Meta Partner Programme
@bigbangerz5856 No you need to understand the difference in market size
It'd be like asking someone to cover games made exclusively for Linux, except Linux has more gamers than PCVR and probably PSVR2 now
@@DavenBigelow I understand the difference, Quest is the dominant VR platform driven by value and cost which is attractive to consumers but then have to live with the compromise of standalone media being largely crap and an intentionally gimped PCVR interface cos they want you to purchase from their store. What you’re saying is more like a TV reviewer shouldn’t cover the latest Sony OLED screen cos everyone buys cheap as chips LCD… from one brand… a brand known to aggressively market themselves …that wants to own the market like a monopoly
