  • In today’s video I do a complete paint job using the SprayIT R500 low volume low pressure gravity feed spray gun and my small 21 gallon compressor on a 2012 Chevy Tahoe and show you that it is very possible to paint your vehicle using a LVLP spray gun and a small compressor at home in your garage.

As a 45 year car guy most of my life that has been around high end builds and daily builds, I can say without a shadow of doubt that this is very obtainable for the average blue collar person on a tight budget. If you can't afford a 5K and up paint job, but have the space, a compressor LVLP paint gun, and some sweat equity you can have a great paint job if you follow the basics.

I gotta say, UPK is inspirational. I do small stuff, mostly guitars and bicycles and I’m trying to move on from rattle cans, but get scared away when I hear about needing to get 5 HP, 3 phase, 60 gallon compressor. Seeing UPK paint up a monster Chevy Tahoe with a 21 gallon compressor and a LVLP gun is mighty impressive.

I’ve never seen this channel before and I’ve been watching UA-cam and auto body vids for more years than I can count.
This gentleman is humble, not a loudmouth and spitting facts.
I have different compressors, but for mid size jobs I use a 20 gallon husky from Home Depot. I spray clear in the mid 30’s for PSI with my 1.3 Iwata and I can hold the gun wide open nonstop and it and I never lose air pressure. It builds enough pressure that it’ll still shut off from building enough air.
    Honestly
, you could use a ten gallon compressor to paint a hood, or a few panels at a time.
The only things I’d say is run the 1/2 inch air hose keep the hose as short as possible use the bigger fittings, make sure you get a compressor that takes oil, make sure you use a moisture trap before the gun…….. always make sure you open the bleed valve on the compressor when your done using it.
Most of the guys on UA-cam even the diy guys make a lot of this stuff sound wayyy more complicated and confusing than it really is. Spraying is the easy part. The bodywork and prep is the hard part.

Great job UPK! I noticed from bondo billy, he has a separate 3' air hose with the regulator and the water filter setup, being 3 feet before the gun, that gets held by the non painting hand. I made myself one. Helps with the really low stuff, not having those 2 items directly attached to the gun, also prevents any water from possibly coming out at the connections before the water filter that is really close to the gun, no possible way of a drip on a hood or roof.

I've tried this crap 2 years ago before with a cattle trailer, Chassis Saver, SprayIt 1.7mm siphon gun, and an old Champion 30 gal. air compressor. It only managed to spray half of the rear door before running out of air. I spent most of my time waiting on the compressor to refill.
Ended up using my Fuji turbine system that I use for woodworking since I had no other options at the time and it worked out better than the SprayIt LVLP kit.
I finally bought an Industrial Air 60gal with 13.4cfm @ 40psi that can run an HVLP gun and haven't touched the SprayIt LVLP spray guns for more than a year. On top of that, they spray like a glorified rattle can but that's just my two cents and your ACTUAL experience may vary since the compressor I used was built back in the 1940s.
Just a heads up, California Air Tools who sells the SprayIt LVLP kits has really poor customer service so if you run into a problem they typically don't respond and will leave you hanging just so you know 😉

    • @UndergroundPaintKing
      @UndergroundPaintKing  2 роки тому +3

I hate that you had that bad experience with the SprayIT and glad you found something that worked for you until you got the 60gal compressor setup…I also appreciate you for the heads-up on the company service I myself have never dealt with them but if I have to in the future I know what to expect…Thanks again Weaver Cattle Company!

I've been binge watching your videos. After watching another painters' channel. He's got a million dollar booth and arsenal of paint guns that cost more than my cars. You just get it done! I've been using the old Harbor freight pro gun for projects for 10 years. I normally shoot single stage urethane and it does a great job. But I'm on the fence now to get that Spectrum or Get the Astro. I see these other guys with booths and fancy climate controls and $800 guns they have orange peel, fisheyes, and dirt nibs everywhere. You spray in your little garage and it looks like glass. I did the roof of my 63 GMC panel truck in my driveway under a canopy. Great channel! You are the U.P. King!

Great stuff! I painted my MR2 (admittedly a tiny car) with a 20 year-old 33 gallon Craftsman compressor. Filtration is huge, since the compressor is going to run a lot and the heat will cause condensarion in the tank. There are lots of good videos on UA-cam about how to build copper cooling manifolds. Definitely worth the trouble.

Long story short, I turned this bad boy to my clear gun for my hydro dipped part's. One thing I noticed out the box was the plastic ring behind the air cap, only cheap thing on the gun. But I didn't get scared, SHARPE FINEX 3000 which is little a hundred dollars has the same similar plastic O ring! My man great work, only been here couple months subbed, but hooked!
