amazing 3d model. Finally someone did what i have wondered about in years. Why not have a pipe running all the way through the model for easier assembly and strength. Great model, just finished printing it and is now looking for 25mm and 8mm pipe. If you used a 3/4" pipe instead of 1". You could have 3d printed a hexagonal piece to slide over the outer barrel and a round pice for the inner, to be more screen accurate.
Thanks! Unfortunately everybody has been buying up the 25 and 8mm rods to build this and they are super hard to find now. :) If you haven't found something yet, I'd recommend taking a part that has the holes to the hardware store. I know a lot of people have been using dowels and even shower rods. I have a hex piece if you want it btw. I made this rifle back when there was only a couple ref pics before the show started, so it definitely isn't 100% accurate. Thanks for the comment and good luck with the build.

Hi Rob, missed you. Such great work with the modeling and painting. I have been searching for a very long time for a good detailed model of the standing sarcophagus in the movie the Fifth Element. I would hope you could do a model of that for us. Just love your work and had to ask. Thanks, Rob
Thanks so much! That's definitely not a model I've seen anyone do. I just do this stuff for fun when I have time, so I probably won't get around to doing it. Good suggestion though.
A great video and a great model! I am currently in the middle of sticking it all together, I noticed that long flat part on the bottom of the chamber, right in front of the trigger assembly is missing from the files on myminifactory. Any chance you could add that?
Rob - they no longer sell/make the Alclad Polished Brass (because of some toxic material used in the paint). Can you recommend another type of paint/combo that will allow me to get that polished brass look without the Alclad Polished Brass you used? thank you -
Great model and build. Quick question, I'm converting to inches because HomeDepot doesn't have mm rods. So I will need a 25x700mm rod which comes out to .98in x 2.75 in, and an 8mm x 1000mm that comes out to .31in x 39.37 in? Just want to make sure.
Thanks Rob! Yes, 1 inch will work perfectly. They should have some wooden dowels for the smaller one. I usually suggest to people to print one piece that has both rod holes and take with you to the store for fitting. Good luck with your build and thanks again for the comment. 👍

Im almost done printing but I also found this file in a totally different location so glad their is information!! Any advise on where to pick up rods such as those? I am in the states.
@@RobPauza Any links on amazon. Tried looking but i'm using the wrong keywords apparently. As the other location mercenaryoutpost.com on the main page.
noobman229 Thanks so much. I just asked them to take it down since my model clearly says “NOT for resale or redistribution”. It’s popping up a lot of places. Just took it down from Etsy as well where people are selling it. So annoying. Thanks!
Rob stunning work, I'm going to attempt to build this using a AnyCubic Mono X resin printer, I'm having trouble finding the rods where did you purchase yours?
Thanks so much. I bought mine on Amazon but they are super hard to find now. People are using different things. Wooden dowels, shower rods, etc. I’d recommend printing a part that has the two rod holes and then taking it to a hardware store to find something that fits. Remember that you need room for glue as well. Good luck.
Hey Rob What’s the minimum promoting size area do you need for this. I don’t think my 3D printer will be able to do the back stock and the fork in the front
Hi Paul, I'm honestly not sure and not at home to check... but I have since made an optional 3-part stock and fork for smaller printers. I'd say just grab the files and throw them in your slicer to see if they will fit. Hope this helps.
That is amazing!! What infilled percentage did you use for the rifle parts. When you were printing it looked like it was a higher percentage. Was there a structural reason for that or personal choice?
Travis Wendt - Thanks so much! I usually just like things to feel heavier and be stronger. Just personal preference, but I generally use around 15% infill for most things.
Hi Rob, thanks so much for the plans! I am printing the parts off as I am writing this. After watching the video, what are your thoughts on spray painting all the parts separately and then assembling them? I have not done airbrush painting before and am not confident how well I could do it. Do you think spray painting everything separate would be feasible, or would it make assemble more difficult?
Hi Rob :) Another question - Do you have a video or can point me to a good video with a tutorial on airbrushing a wood finished look like you have? I'm new to Airbrushing but could figure it out if there was some examples. Also - how did you get the sort of burnt in look with the studs connecting the wood? thank you -
Reuben Moretz I didn’t do any research for mine, but I just searched “airbrush wood grain” and got some good UA-cam results. That might be a good place to start.
It looks amazing! I'm also in the middle of making the pulse rifle and I believe it's also from your file. What color brown did you used for your stock? I'm having a hard time replicating a wood color on plastic.
Thanks so much! Honestly, no idea if it’s not in the video. 🤣 I did mix it from several colors and overlayed several variations to simulate wood grain. I’m not sure that’s much help, but I’m guessing there’s probably some great tutorials on UA-cam for painting wood.
Hi Rob. Your products are fantastic! I am brand new to 3D printing and looking forward to building this rifle as my first project. Two questions: Carbon fiber rods better than aluminum? Also, is ABS stronger than PLA and a more durable choice? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Phffbbt Thanks so much! Best wishes on your build. The carbon fiber rods are super hard to find these days. I think because of my rifle. ;) Any will do. If you read the comments on MyMiniFactory you will see a lot of people using different things. I’d recommend printing a smaller part and taking it with you to find a rod that fits at Lowe’s, etc. ABS is stronger than PLA and also sands a lot easier. But, it’s trickier to print. It needs higher heat, a heated bed, and usually an enclosure for your printer to keep the ambient temperature high. Either one will be durable. I use around 12-15 infill and it is usually very solid. Best wishes and be sure and post a photo when you get done. I’d love to see your results. -Rob
@@RobPauza amazing file and video and yes its been impossible finding a 25mm rod, if it was a full inch it would have been easy lol, oh well thanks for the video and links
Hi Rob. Love your video and files and am super excited to have my print starting. The pieces seem kind of small currently. Should I do any sort of resizing when printing?
They should be sized correctly at 100% scale. I thought the same thing though when I printed it. It gets big fast when the parts start going together. :)
I love this project! I hope to build it myself pretty soon. For mine, I was thinking about carving the stock and grip out of walnut, like a couple other people, but I want it to be weighted like an actual gun, so do you have any suggestions for relatively cheap aluminum tubing or possibly weighting the carbon ones? I've been looking around with no luck. This is the way!
Sounds cool. No idea about the rods. The carbon ones are really hard to find these days. I think because of this rifle. 🤣 You could always use wood I suppose. Some people have used shower rods even. Good luck with the project.
Guy Gus Probably cheaper to buy a printer to be honest. ;) I’m not super up to speed on what’s available now, but a lot of people love the Artillery Sidewinder X1 as a good mid-range printer. Roughly $450 USD
Rob I don’t know if you will see this but I was just curious what was the exact model of airbrush you used. I know it’s a sitar 20/20 but there a few different letter options that go with it
Hi Allen. I’ve since moved to an iwata Eclipse and like it better, but here’s the exact one I used in the video: Badger Air-Brush Co. Sotar 2020-2F Large Gravity Feed Fine Airbrush, Black a.co/d/4zhQHtl

Thanks so much. And yes, FDM should work. I’ve included a 1-piece trigger just for that. 👍
Im almost done printing but I also found this file in a totally different location so glad their is information!!
Any advise on where to pick up rods such as those? I am in the states.
noobman229 Curious where the other location is? I ordered mine from Amazon. I’m in US too
@@RobPauza Any links on amazon.
Good luck.
Would love to do this with a wooden stock Incorporated.
Dr Strangelove Do it! I can send you a blueprint if you want. Thanks for the comment!
Hey Rob
What’s the minimum promoting size area do you need for this.
Hope this helps.
what should we do if we dont have an airbrush?
Spray cans will work quite well too. 👍
Did you use any supports while printing the parts?
3DPTR Frame2.stl and Parts.stl require supports. The others do not.
-Rob
@@RobPauza Many thanks for the info! Will post pics.
@@RobPauza amazing file and video and yes its been impossible finding a 25mm rod, if it was a full inch it would have been easy lol, oh well thanks for the video and links
@@Jefmac76 Yeah, I should have made it 1" instead. Sorry about that. :)
@@RobPauza you did amazing work! Cant thank you enough for this!!
Hi Rob. Love your video and files and am super excited to have my print starting. The pieces seem kind of small currently. Should I do any sort of resizing when printing?
They should be sized correctly at 100% scale. I thought the same thing though when I printed it. It gets big fast when the parts start going together. :)
And, subscribed!
Thanks! You are number 6,996! 😜
great work on the model roughly how long did it take you to print and what infill
thomas fascaldo Thanks! Hard to say. I’m guessing it took around 60 hours, but I print slow. Infill was maybe 22% and resin pieces are solid.
Did you ever specify the lengths of the rods?
2:00
I love this project! I hope to build it myself pretty soon. For mine, I was thinking about carving the stock and grip out of walnut, like a couple other people, but I want it to be weighted like an actual gun, so do you have any suggestions for relatively cheap aluminum tubing or possibly weighting the carbon ones? I've been looking around with no luck. This is the way!
Sounds cool. No idea about the rods. The carbon ones are really hard to find these days. I think because of this rifle. 🤣 You could always use wood I suppose. Some people have used shower rods even. Good luck with the project.
Shower rods for the 25 mm and wooden dowels for the 8 mm
*YOU COULD HAVE EASILY MADE PROPS FOR THE ACTUAL SHOW (STILL COULD). VERY WELL DONE AND GOOD ON YOU FOR SHARING THE FILES* subbed and liked
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. The new helmet is out now at MyMiniFactory.com if you're interested. Thanks again!
I'm new to the 3d printing world, but how much would I be looking at to have the files printed for me?
Guy Gus Probably cheaper to buy a printer to be honest. ;) I’m not super up to speed on what’s available now, but a lot of people love the Artillery Sidewinder X1 as a good mid-range printer. Roughly $450 USD
How could you make the outtro so good like that? are you using black background and light ?
Sinbad Thank you! And yes, using a black background panel and some LED panel lights. Motion is done with Edelkrone products.
is this scaled @100% is it the same size as the screen used mandolorian rife
It’s my best guess at screen used size. There’s more accurate models out there now. I made this before the show came out and/or reference photos.
Rob I don’t know if you will see this but I was just curious what was the exact model of airbrush you used. I know it’s a sitar 20/20 but there a few different letter options that go with it
Hi Allen. I’ve since moved to an iwata Eclipse and like it better, but here’s the exact one I used in the video:
Badger Air-Brush Co. Sotar 2020-2F Large Gravity Feed Fine Airbrush, Black a.co/d/4zhQHtl
