Lemon pegs will expand with the leather when they get wet, thats the point. Metal pegs will tend to come out of the sole when the leathers gets wet and expands and the metal doesn’t expand with them and they don’t stay tight in the sole. Every pair of boots I’ve owned with metal pegs always end up forcing themselves out. Every pair of boots I’ve had with lemon pegs have always stayed in and I’ve never had an issue.
Jerry-rig tip: Coating the nails in a waterproof adhesive can help a little with that. Wood pegs rot with moisture over time and end up falling out anyways. So it evens itself out. But then again, if you’re putting your leather soles in water in the first place, you’re doing it all wrong.
Charles H, US ARMY, Retired March 6, 2022 I've been researching and buying western boots since last Dec. I now own 4 pairs of RUJOs, 2 -TECOVAS and 1- Dan Post. The RUJO Exotics and TECOVAS Python & Bison are excellent and the DAN POST is OK. Now I come to CISOS Cowboy Boots, considered by many professional reviewers, to be the BEST COWBOW boots on the market, bar none!. After watching several videos, I'm convinced the reviewers are RIGHT! I'm ordering the CISOS #2, in Brown Square Toe!
Really nice job, better than when new! That so called shank thing isn't liked by some other cobblers & I've seen them chuck um away, and add a standard flat steel shank to replace those. 👍
I have a pair of Tacovas Caiman belly boots that seem very nice. If needed I would consider having them rebuilt. However if I’m not mistaken the boots in this video are some of the least expensive Tecovas boots. And they are not in that great of shape to begin with especially with that slice cut in the leather. I guess they are already broken in and must be comfortable but I think I would just buy a new pair
Hello I just watched your video a few resoling a pair of to Kovas boots. They look just like the ones I seen on Jason Doran stars video. He cleaned him up and conditioned them. He said they were oiled leather. Are the ones you did oiled leather also
First, I love your video’s. I thought about ordering Tecovas THE CARTWRIGHT, COLOR: BOURBON, MATERIAL: CALFSKIN, but I hate that dark colored toe and heal. I want it all the same bourbon color. Can that be easliy corrected?
Good day, I inherited a pair of Red wing 1085s in New condition but they are 1.25 sizes too large. How much of a job is it to have it "re-last" it from a 12D to a 10.5 EE?
I bit the bullet and purchased my 1st. pr. of cowboy boots: Tecovas (The Wyatt Pecan full quill Ostrich boots) I thought I would give them a try and I went to a casino all you can eat sea food buffet and dribble hot butter on the left boot (4 pretty large spots)the spots look black on the boots. Didn’t notice this until I got home. I’m very disgusted with myself! Is there a way to get those spots off without ruining the full Ostrich boots??? Note: I did buy some Boot Barn Exotic leather cleaner & conditioner months ago, I've never used any cleaner/conditioner before and don't want to ruin my new boots. You seem to know a lot about cowboy boots. I need you thoughts. Thanks
On a Tacova boot can you reshape the heel when you’re putting it back together or even if it were brand new to give it more of an underslung cowboy look? Awesome, they look new…..
Excellent to know when I get my first pair of Tacovas then with your approval when I can afford the order I will have them shipped directly to you if that is OK.
Great video nice work with those boots what do you think about cody james leather sole boots are they made well also do you think a boot dryer are good for leather boots
Unfortunately the CJ soles aren’t that great. They are a urine treated leather. A dryer for boots I would only recommend if you wash boots like we do or if they are a performance boot like sky, snowboard or logger boots. Regular wear just use boot trees and switch between pairs so you don’t wear the same pair multiple days in a row
Cartwright is the model and honey is the color. I like it too. Not currently available. Their colors on some models today are getting weirder and weirder... Both my Tecovas Cartwright and Wyatt (ostrich) are black. Wanted a formal looking boot in addition to calfskin.
Going to regret not doing lemon wood pegs. Especially seeing how the guy who owns those boots wears them. Water is going expand that leather and the nails will fall out
Not to nitpick, but since you say it so often in this video, it is 'Tecovas,' rather than 'Tecova.' Unless the 's' is silent, in which case I stand corrected ... ( But I notice that you have also written the name as 'Tecova' ) ... But results are the main thing, and these ended up looking just great !
Don't care if you barefoot lol I own exotics and there all Justin all were baught in the late 80s and early 90s. I have a brand new pair of Ariat Rebar that I like a lot.
Im sure cobblers love Tecovas because they are pretty cheaply made. I wasn't sure until I bought them myself and compared to my Blackjack boots. It also took me about 8 times getting boots, trying them , driving to UPS, waiting a week for an exchange, to find a pair that weren't messed up. Id say hard pass...your time is worth a couple hundred more. In the case of black jack about $100 difference.

IKR? What cobbler doesn't know why they use lemon wood for the pegs?
If lemon wood pegs are so inferior to nails, I wonder why high end boot makers use lemon wood pegs. Hmm!🤔
Lisa sorrel talked about not enough lemon pegs????.from ok city tv news????

Was looking for this comment. This guy is 100% wrong about the lemon pegs.
Outstanding craftsmanship and attention to detail. Thank you for sharing!
Nice job, First time I've seen a complete resole on Cowboy Boots, Thank you.
They turned out great. Nice job!

Great job! Great video! I love Tecovas!
Great job buddy
I really enjoyed this video.
Nice job on the boots
I just bought some smooth Ostrich Tecovas and bought some Tony Lama Ropers liking the Tony’s which only used each once

Just FYI, they do have a machine to inseam on a leather insole. Keep up the videos!

Tecovas THE CARTWRIGHT,

MATERIAL: CALFSKIN,
but I hate that dark colored toe and heal. I want it all the same bourbon color. Can that be easliy corrected?
Thank you for the information about lemon pegs.
Other cobblers say lemon pegs are good because they expand and contract with the leather.
He's 100% wrong.
Good day,
I inherited a pair of Red wing 1085s in New condition but they are 1.25 sizes too large. How much of a job is it to have it "re-last" it from a 12D to a 10.5 EE?
I like the looks of some of the tecova boots. Been thinking of them for replacing the Tony llamas I inherited from my uncle after a resole on them.
Unless I missed the pricing for this job, what does a resole like that cost? Thanks.
From my experience, more then the cost of the boot.
$225 starting price, but tecovas also will do a full rebuild for $150, although not with anything as sturdy as JR soles
How would you rate Tony Lama’s to Tecovas?
I bit the bullet and purchased my 1st. pr. of cowboy boots: Tecovas (The Wyatt Pecan full quill Ostrich boots) I thought I would give them a try and I went to a casino all you can eat sea food buffet and dribble hot butter on the left boot (4 pretty large spots)the spots look black on the boots. You didn't show how you fixed that cut.
Is that cost effective?
Anyone know what model this Tecovas boot is?
On a Tacova boot can you reshape the heel when you’re putting it back together or even if it were brand new to give it more of an underslung cowboy look? Awesome, they look new…..
Yes but would need to replace the heel base completely instead of saving the original
Excellent to know when I get my first pair of Tacovas then with your approval when I can afford the order I will have them shipped directly to you if that is OK.
On average, how much to resoleing cost?
Great video nice work with those boots what do you think about cody james leather sole boots are they made well also do you think a boot dryer are good for leather boots

Do u know what model tecovas these were?
Looks like the Cartwright. Don't think that color is currently available, though.

I'm really digging the "JR" soles! Is it true what I've heard that they are no longer making them???
Last I heard another company purchased them and they are still producing JR soles
Going to regret not doing lemon wood pegs. Especially seeing how the guy who owns those boots wears them. Water is going expand that leather and the nails will fall out
My favorite brand Shoes woodland boots and Bata and Nike adidas
Not bad

Tecovas have a plastic heel counter
10:10 Me explaining my new robot girlfriend to my parents.
They don't look like they need resoled
Cool...in other words...video... XD
P.S, lovely UZI self defence pen
Don't care if you barefoot

If that were my boots for $255 I’d buy a new pair. I don’t see the value in re-crafting an inexpensive pair of boots like that!
Exactly
Unless you can't get the color anymore. Honey color is no longer available. 😢
Im sure cobblers love Tecovas because they are pretty cheaply made. I wasn't sure until I bought them myself and compared to my Blackjack boots. Interesting take, i have 7 tecovas shoes but have seen 1 shoe which was dicey quality control. Which boots do you recommend apart from Blackjack ?
I bought a pair and the leather cracked after wearing them 4 times. They're sending me a new pair so hopefully I have better luck with them.
In other words...
🤣
Flip- flops suck 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
Tecovas boots.😂
I stopped watching when I saw the flip flops and everything
Clicked off. My God you talk excessively to annoyance
talk to much need to move along
