Thank you for showing us on this side of the world how the famous JR soles come from and made. To think JR, Horween and AE are a complete beautiful marriage like you said. Horween is made here in my hometown of Chicago. Love to see a video on them coming from you Kirby. Great job as always sir.
Great to watch this again as I did the first video some time ago. Amazing how much work goes into the product. When the time comes, I will be using these soles as they are only a bit more in cost but so much more in quality.
Great factory tour! 👍🏼 Thank you for the introduction. I have Allen Edmonds penny loafers in horween cordovan and JR outsoles. This year it will be the fourth season of rocking em, but there is still no hint on soles replacement, though it's a question of coming out frequency of course.
Amazing project. I love and admire the passion by how Hanns talks about his heritage and process. My passion about shoes and leather comes from an old diary I found in my great-grandad house where he noted the purchase of leather from Tuscany in 1936 to make shoes. Funny enough, the company that sellz leather still exists! Unfortunately, the last shoes maker in my family was my grandad, and none else kept the heritage from 1890 or maybe earlier. I want do it. You Kerby inspired me and I hope one day to meet you in Dallas to offer my shoes. Ciao, from Italy ;)
I just learned that Rendenbach is going out of business…such a shame. I have several pairs of AE shoes, which I rebuilt with Rendenbach soles. Tragic when a great traditional artisan goes out of business.
Outstanding! I’m so jealous you got to tour that tannery
It was! One of my all-time favorite videos!
Awesome tour, people don't realize how heavy wet hides are, hard workers, love working with veg tanned leather.
Hanns is quite a character. It is nice to see somebody with an infectious enthusiasm for quality.
I simply adore the way he says “adwantage”! Top quality content as usual.

Incredible tour. I really enjoyed it Kirby.
Awesome, thank you!
Excellent content! Great to see such a company
Fantastic video, I hope the factory will be around for the 100 year,
Out of business since 2022.
Fascinating; thanks!
Wow. Very informative
Great information! Thanks.
Glad it was helpful! My Pleasure!
Kirby. I love that tie!
Very cool!
Mr. Allison, May I ask your take on unfinished aromatic cedar suit hangers? Are they worth the few extra dollars, or are they just superfluous?
Kirby, could you review Carmina’s Adelaide 80208 Simpson shoes? One of their few narrow shoes I like the looks of.
Can you help me understand how you can raise up the water resistance at the same time as you raise up the water permeability? (~9:30)
Bravo
I think I should visit this factory, Trier is not too far away from where I live!
I'm sure Haans would love to welcome you!
Kirby squatting is so funny to watch.
RIP JR.
Wonderful tour, wonderful heritage of craftsmanship.
It’s a sad thing that they’ve announced their closure.
R.I.P
Any truth in the tannery shutting down?
Sadly true.
They went out of business in November 2021. Must have lost sight of "the adwantage."
Second!
OH .... GRAIN .... I thought he said Crane
