toppdogg2k17 Yep a 1080p 60 mode would have been nice aswell. But when I played through this game in 30fps on the original One, it didn't bother me since it's a casual racing game. I'm glad that games like Assetto Corsa are 60fps when it gets competative.

I also use the PS4 for exclusives, and PC for certain PC intensive games. I think you should just leave ALL of your options open. I still use the 360 for family games too ha!

Playground is the best open world developer. Forza Horizon’s world is much better than most open world games out there. And better: Playground is making the new Xbox open world game, probably Fable 4.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who would of rather seen the Xbox One X version compared against the standard Xbox version 😏 given that most players will be moving up from the standard version.

Cost. Odd though the my laptop (which costs 3 times more than my Xbox at the time) is more powerful than my Xbox 1 yet it can barely run Horizon 3 on the lowest setting at 30 fps.
Forza Horizon 3 is an example of why it's good business to upgrade old games for 4K consoles. I only bought this game because of the upgrade, and I'm completely blown away by it. The impact of the 4K presentation is maybe the most compelling yet on the X. Just amazing.
Loving these updates on older games for the One X, they bring a sense of refreshment and gives people a reason to go back to them. And wow does this game look beyond what I had expected.

zeus1117 not true, I bought tomb raider, hitman, gears 4 and witcher 3 because of the performance mode on X. Would have done the same with Forza Horizon 3 but find it hard to enjoy 30fps.
Id rather see a Patch for the FORZA HORIZON 2. I like it better. Impressive work by Playground. Though personally I would prefer 60 fps over a 30 fps lock even if that meant giving up on some of the visual spectacle.
Visually it looks stunning but it runs at 30fps and that's the problem I think most people have. I dislike that as well tbh. I have always had the opinion gameplay > visuals. And framerate does impact the gameplay especially in racing games.

Just got this game a couple weeks ago with the hot wheels/blizzard mountain DLC. I've been playing it at 1440p with a 1080 ti and I get around 80-100 fps on close to max settings. Truly magnificent.
Has nothing to do with looks but performance and input but if your tv has low input lag, the gameplay is still smooth to me. Console games dont ever run at 60 fps anyway! A handful does but the majority dont. Most console players dont notice because its what they are use too.

I wanted to see the direct comparison with the Xbox One base, not PC. How much does a PC cost to run the FH3 in 4k and 60fps? The important comparison are between Xbox's and not PC's.
A PC wouldn't cost that much tbh. a 1060 is around the same performance as the GPU in the X. As for CPU well the X has a very old budget laptop/tablet CPU so building a PC with that wouldn't be a great idea imo. But yeah... I think a pretty modest CPU (Ryzen 3 1200 for example) could handle it. The X is probably bottlenecked again by its CPU hence the fact that they had to lock it at 30fps.

There are at least 8 games on PC that have HDR, funny thing is it's not like XB1X owners all have HDR TV's anyway, HDR is really only just kicking off properly and the HDR10 standard.
EJSC Reshade has been proven to not tax your hardware more then native support HDR support. Also, HDR can be natively enabled in your graphics driver options. PC's have supported HDR way before the XBOX X ever did. Also, 1080p ultra at 60 FPS+ looks better then any game running on 4k at 30 FPS with medium settings.
I have an Xbox one X and a 4K tv and downloaded the update, and it looks crisper and better to admire than before, but i really wish i was savvy with all this nerd talk so i could be as excited as the rest of you

I wonder why a game that's exclusively made by xbox devs is similar to the pc version, its almost as if they put more effort on the xbox version. Don't judge a pc on only a single game.
A couple things to remember. This in an update to an old game. So I don't think it is that easy for them to make it optimized at 4K60 for this title. But for Forza 7 it pretty much was worked on and released right before the X. So realistically they probably were able to optimize for the X from the start. But even though not having Forza Horizon 3 at 4K60 now I'm still optimistic for 2 reasons: you never know, but this could just be the start and playground games could have something in the works for the future to have a 4K60 option (or 1080p60), and secondly the way I see it is that the Xbox One X is basically a $500 level PC. And for that amount, I think the specs of what they were able to produce in this game is phenomenal. To be perfectly honest, I was totally satisfied with the performance of this game on the base xbox. So this is just icing on the cake. Now wait until Forza Horizon 4 is released, I would say that I am totally confident that they can pull off 4K60 on this game just like Forza 7. Happy gaming everyone.

You are confusing pixel resolution in a 3d rendered scene vs texture map resolution. The output resolution is 4k, not the textures. Textures are variable in size generally, even at 4k. Some could be as small as 512x512 and some perhaps as large as 4096x4096, but either way, 4k does not refer to the texture map resolution in this case muh'naggin
I am genuinely looking forward to the 9th generation consoles. All these things need is a decent CPU and whatever extra RAM and GPU Congress around about that time and they'll flatten every other machine capable of gaming in the world!

@DANNYonPC I agree. I think FPS is more noticeable than resolution. You honestly can't tell the difference between 1080p and 4K side by side; at least not as easily as noticing the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps.
I finally got the update and it looks rediculously good. I do wish for higher frame rates but the tweak to motion blur did make if feel a nice bit smoother so can't complain.

So many people say they want 60fps but won't use the motion settings on their tv because of added response time. It looks like it's running at a very smooth 60 fps on my screen. I don't notice a small response time difference in racing games.
Drive club isn't open world and it has very little in terms of content. So of course they can focus more on weather and effects, Forza still crushes it in every other department.

PC players who play at 4K 144hz, have G-SYNC displays, play on the SAME microsoft azure servers that Xbox players play taking advantage of the Xbox player pool because it's mostly empty on PC, and on top of that, we have the hardware advantage that both the base Xbox One and the new Xbox One X, DON'T. So, the entire premise of your argument about the base console being just 30 and it would have been unfair if the X came to be 60 FPS, is invalid. No offense, but the cherry on top for us on PC here is that apart from 4K 144hz G-SYNC (since the launch of the game), we are utilizing your players and servers for online play, and you are paying our taxes (Xbox live gold membership required for online play on Xbox) and it's FREE for us. :)

While comparing to PC is still good, to see how it stacks up, I'd wish they would have compared the base hardware to the enhanced version to really show off how drastic the step up was. Comparing it only to PC doesn't do it as much justice as stacking it against what it looks like on a standard xbx1
Dong Kim you got to Admit. Digital foundry is not comparing it to a og xbox but a high end pc with a 1070. The visuals are pretty much the same. The cpu they use is not clear. And still they had to put some settings to medium to get the FPS difference. Iff you could couple a Xbox cpu with a 1070 GPU i think result would be close.
It is - at least visually anyway and in some cases actually beats a 1070ti BUT and probably crucially, the difference is in the frame rate. I wonder if you paired your 1070 with a mobile Jaguar CPU to match the CPU in the X, whether your 1070 could run the game with the same 'visual' settings at 60fps or would the CPU bottleneck force you to cut down on visual quality OR settle for a locked 30fps. We don't know whether Forza Horizon 3 could run at say 40-60fps if unlocked OR would be in the 32-45fps. What is clear though, is that visually its on a Par with a 1070 and runs at a locked 30fps but then PC owners probably have much better CPU's - i5/i7 so won't have the same CPU bottleneck. No doubt the CPU is being used to calculate AI behaviour and physics calculations so its more likely the CPU that's limiting on a console. Point is though, how much does a i5+ GTX1070 PC cost? The X isn't cheap but its delivering 4x the performance of a standard XB1 as well as doubling up as a decent 4k HDR bluray player too I bet any PC gamer would happily pay £250 for a GPU that delivers over 4x the compute power as well as the extra, much faster RAM. Why not compare the PS4 Pro to your PC? PC's are more capable - if you are willing to spend the money...,
Would you rather have a more boring game? Horizon 3 is brilliant because it plays well and the world is interesting. It's constantly beckoning to you. You could get to 60, but you'd have to curtail a lot of what makes this game fun. Motorsport is a great game at 60fps. I'd rather play this one.

My favorite racing game and one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. I play on pc at 4k 60 but the horizon games do well at 30 fps too. No mention of hdr here but honestly I can’t imagine how it would improve things as the lighting is already incredible.

I don't think most people could tell this was 30fps by playing it. I don't remember a big fuss about Driveclub being 30 FPS, but now 60 is essential even though it's running at 4 times the resolution
If Forza Horizon 4 and the near future Forza games get customization like games from Need for Speed Payback, Midnight Club L.A., and The Crew 2 that includes custom interiors, tail lights head lights, neon lights, more wide body options for nearly every production car, more custom aftermarket bodykits, the ability to change the color of the lip of the rims and main body of the rim, press a button to pull down your convertible top, and bring in motor bikes ( Horizon only) then nothing will stop them when it comes to racing with real cars.

Forza Horizon 3 is an example of why it's good business to upgrade old games for 4K consoles. I only bought this game because of the upgrade, and I'm completely blown away by it. The impact of the 4K presentation is maybe the most compelling yet on the X. Just amazing.

Visually it looks stunning but it runs at 30fps and that's the problem I think most people have. I dislike that as well tbh. I have always had the opinion gameplay > visuals. And framerate does impact the gameplay especially in racing games.

Just got this game a couple weeks ago with the hot wheels/blizzard mountain DLC. I've been playing it at 1440p with a 1080 ti and I get around 80-100 fps on close to max settings. Truly magnificent.

Has nothing to do with looks but performance and input but if your tv has low input lag, the gameplay is still smooth to me. Console games dont ever run at 60 fps anyway! A handful does but the majority dont. Most console players dont notice because its what they are use too.

A PC wouldn't cost that much tbh. a 1060 is around the same performance as the GPU in the X. As for CPU well the X has a very old budget laptop/tablet CPU so building a PC with that wouldn't be a great idea imo. But yeah... I think a pretty modest CPU (Ryzen 3 1200 for example) could handle it. The X is probably bottlenecked again by its CPU hence the fact that they had to lock it at 30fps.
My 6700K and RX480 can run it in 4K with everything cranked and I get about 40-55 fps for what it's worth.

Wil Wong PC's have reshade and you can enable HDR with your graphics driver and it'll work in every game.
EJSC Reshade has been proven to not tax your hardware more then native support HDR support. Also, HDR can be natively enabled in your graphics driver options. PC's have supported HDR way before the XBOX X ever did. Also, 1080p ultra at 60 FPS+ looks better then any game running on 4k at 30 FPS with medium settings.
I have an Xbox one X and a 4K tv and downloaded the update, and it looks crisper and better to admire than before, but i really wish i was savvy with all this nerd talk so i could be as excited as the rest of you

A couple things to remember. This in an update to an old game. So I don't think it is that easy for them to make it optimized at 4K60 for this title. But for Forza 7 it pretty much was worked on and released right before the X. So realistically they probably were able to optimize for the X from the start. But even though not having Forza Horizon 3 at 4K60 now I'm still optimistic for 2 reasons: you never know, but this could just be the start and playground games could have something in the works for the future to have a 4K60 option (or 1080p60), and secondly the way I see it is that the Xbox One X is basically a $500 level PC. And for that amount, I think the specs of what they were able to produce in this game is phenomenal. To be perfectly honest, I was totally satisfied with the performance of this game on the base xbox. So this is just icing on the cake. Now wait until Forza Horizon 4 is released, I would say that I am totally confident that they can pull off 4K60 on this game just like Forza 7. Happy gaming everyone.

Yeah I use both, I have an X for the enhanced games, and a regular FAT Xbox One for everything that isn't. Why not just use the X for what it's intended for. I also use the PS4 for exclusives, and PC for certain PC intensive games. I think you should just leave ALL of your options open. I still use the 360 for family games too ha!

You are confusing pixel resolution in a 3d rendered scene vs texture map resolution. The output resolution is 4k, not the textures. Textures are variable in size generally, even at 4k. Some could be as small as 512x512 and some perhaps as large as 4096x4096, but either way, 4k does not refer to the texture map resolution in this case muh'naggin

I agree. I think FPS is more noticeable than resolution. You honestly can't tell the difference between 1080p and 4K side by side; at least not as easily as noticing the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps.
I finally got the update and it looks rediculously good. I do wish for higher frame rates but the tweak to motion blur did make if feel a nice bit smoother so can't complain.

So many people say they want 60fps but won't use the motion settings on their tv because of added response time. It looks like it's running at a very smooth 60 fps on my screen. I don't notice a small response time difference in racing games.

Drive club isn't open world and it has very little in terms of content. So of course they can focus more on weather and effects, Forza still crushes it in every other department.

This game is FULL crossplay with Windows 10 PC. Meaning? PC players who play at 4K 144hz, have G-SYNC displays, play on the SAME microsoft azure servers that Xbox players play taking advantage of the Xbox player pool because it's mostly empty on PC, and on top of that, we have the hardware advantage that both the base Xbox One and the new Xbox One X, DON'T.
So, the entire premise of your argument about the base console being just 30 and it would have been unfair if the X came to be 60 FPS, is invalid.
No offense, but the cherry on top for us on PC here is that apart from 4K 144hz G-SYNC (since the launch of the game), we are utilizing your players and servers for online play, and you are paying our taxes (Xbox live gold membership required for online play on Xbox) and it's FREE for us. :)

While comparing to PC is still good, to see how it stacks up, I'd wish they would have compared the base hardware to the enhanced version to really show off how drastic the step up was. Comparing it only to PC doesn't do it as much justice as stacking it against what it looks like on a standard xbx1

Dong Kim you got to Admit. Digital foundry is not comparing it to a og xbox but a high end pc with a 1070. The visuals are pretty much the same. The cpu they use is not clear. And still they had to put some settings to medium to get the FPS difference. Iff you could couple a Xbox cpu with a 1070 GPU i think result would be close.
It is - at least visually anyway and in some cases actually beats a 1070ti BUT and probably crucially, the difference is in the frame rate. I wonder if you paired your 1070 with a mobile Jaguar CPU to match the CPU in the X, whether your 1070 could run the game with the same 'visual' settings at 60fps or would the CPU bottleneck force you to cut down on visual quality OR settle for a locked 30fps.
We don't know whether Forza Horizon 3 could run at say 40-60fps if unlocked OR would be in the 32-45fps. What is clear though, is that visually its on a Par with a 1070 and runs at a locked 30fps but then PC owners probably have much better CPU's - i5/i7 so won't have the same CPU bottleneck. No doubt the CPU is being used to calculate AI behaviour and physics calculations so its more likely the CPU that's limiting on a console.
Point is though, how much does a i5+ GTX1070 PC cost? The X isn't cheap but its delivering 4x the performance of a standard XB1 as well as doubling up as a decent 4k HDR bluray player too I bet any PC gamer would happily pay £250 for a GPU that delivers over 4x the compute power as well as the extra, much faster RAM.
Why not compare the PS4 Pro to your PC? PC's are more capable - if you are willing to spend the money...,

You can't really compare a PC version of a game to a console version since with the PC, you can always upgrade CPU, GPU, and RAM to make games look better, have better frame rate, etc.

My favorite racing game and one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. I play on pc at 4k 60 but the horizon games do well at 30 fps too. No mention of hdr here but honestly I can’t imagine how it would improve things as the lighting is already incredible.

Digital Foundry need to really make viewers understand the look and feel difference of 60fps over 30, the gap is massive.
I'd rather play in 720p/60FPS than 2160p/30FPS... I played it in 1440p/144FPS back when it came out.

I don't think most people could tell this was 30fps by playing it. I don't remember a big fuss about Driveclub being 30 FPS, but now 60 is essential even though it's running at 4 times the resolution

If Forza Horizon 4 and the near future Forza games get customization like games from Need for Speed Payback, Midnight Club L.A., and The Crew 2 that includes custom interiors, tail lights head lights, neon lights, more wide body options for nearly every production car, more custom aftermarket bodykits, the ability to change the color of the lip of the rims and main body of the rim, press a button to pull down your convertible top, and bring in motor bikes ( Horizon only) then nothing will stop them when it comes to racing with real cars.

joshcogaming The 30fps is smoother than 30fps on PC (before others get their panties in a bunch, they should either do research or look at other comments about it).
Though out the video (playing in 4k on a 4k screen) in almost every example of "doesn't quite reach PC" I could not notice a difference. If you swapped the examples I wouldn't bat an eye.
