I’m a straight guy and I think the main reason I liked dolls as a kid was because they were more interesting to make up stories with. I was really into storytelling as a kid and a generic looking doll could be who ever I wanted it to be while an avengers action figure would be stuck as an avenger. Dolls for me were just funner when it came to making stories with em.

I love this answer, and I agree! It almost seemed like, for a while - much more thought and effort went into producing dolls than producing “action figures”

This is my exact experience (except that I'm actually gay lol) but I could create stories that included superheroes, max steels, plushies and fashion dolls. I loved creating stories for them, but I kept the dolls bc they are a lot more appealing to me, specially when I played them under water. I was mesmerized by their flowing hair, I just love them.

I'm a gal that I would say has a lot of both gendered interests, but that also means a lot of people have considered me more of a tomboy as I was rarely as open with my "girly" interests and I dressed and acted more "boyish". I have always loved playing with dolls, yes to this day as an adult, and the reason is the exact same as you which I think is really cool. So many different kinds of people can have the same reason for sticking with an interest that is put on the specific group of "Girly girls"
Dolls should be for everyone cause they are damned fun to play with and make stories with^^

As a little gay boy, wherever my two sisters are at school, I would go to their room and played with their dolls like: Barbie, Disney Princess, and even Bratz dolls. I love playing with dolls and I really like to dress each of the dolls including styling their hair for fun. Heck! My favorite color is pink! But my sisters didn’t want me playing with their dolls, saying that the dolls are “meant for girls”, not for boys.
My mom, being a supported Mexican mama she is, let me play with my sisters dolls while my two older sisters went to school. She doesn’t mind me playing with dolls. She knew I like dolls and she didn’t want me to stop playing with dolls and instead encouraged me to keep playing and use my imagination
If boys want to play with dolls, let them. I don’t see the problem of boys playing with dolls and I don’t see the problem of girls playing with toy cars. But if they don’t want too, that's okay. The parent(s) or their guardian(s) cannot force kids to play with toys that’s base on their gender. We are supposed to support their decision, not criticize them. Toys are made by the people and are meant for everyone, boys AND girls, to play with.

for me it’s this.. I will give my daughter stereotypical girl toys and colors... because I want to and she doesn’t complain because she is a baby.. and they have done studies that say giving a child gender roles as a child is healthy.. unless u are pushing them.. but for me if my daughter doesn’t want to play with dolls or like pink I won’t force it. if my daughter doesn’t want to do dance when she is older I won’t force it. but I will put her in those things until she decides and can speak on what she wants.. I feel u do what U want or think is good for ur child.. until ur child can express they don’t want that or don’t like that thing u are giving them!

My best guess is that it's a positive to be stronger and powerful. So girls doing boy things is seen as a good empowering thing. All that while degrading yourself and being weaker is seen as a negative. You know what's seen as weaker in a way? Feminine stuff. Because being girly has them not doing strong power things like wrestling and fighting and punching things and being a complete bad ass.

They make you feel ashamed to like a "kids toy". But for me, they inspire me to create original characters from different doll franchises; Monster High, Barbie, you name it. Originally powder blue was for girls, pink for boys. Red for men, darker blue for women. Blue was seen as the weaker color because of how it faded over time. Red was the stronger color and since pink was a derivative of red it was assigned to boys.

I think it is important to introduce kids from the youngest age to all kinds of toys (made for their age group). It's no surprise that a girl who only has "girl toys" at home would more likely play with dolls in kindergarten, same with boys and "boy toys". With all kinds of toys at home children will have the true CHOICE of what they want to play with, whether it is a girl who ends up liking soft animal plushies, a boy who loves dinosaur figurines, a girl interested in cars or a boy who can't imagine his life without dolls.

These videos are really showing me why I don’t connect with my dad as much. When I was younger I use to always play with my sisters doll. I would play with them and when they would leave I would ask them if they could atleast leave one that I could play with while they would come back. Everytime my dad saw me playing with one he would always tell me to put it down. I remember one time I was playing with my sister in the kitchen and he told me to get up and kick it. So I did, but now growing up i’m now seeing that, that is wrong. But now I understand why I don’t really like my dad. Yeah he might buy me dolls now, but that part of the past still stick with me. I can feel myself growing away from him. I’ve lived with him my whole life, going on 15 years and I STILL feel more connected with my moms side. She always understood me. Back to before the one doll that I really want today was one I had when I was a kid. I was playing with it in my room and I got up to go use the bathroom. I came back to my room and it wasn’t there. I asked my dad where it was and he said he threw it away.

My mom raised me, my brother and my sisters playing together equally with girl toys and boy toys. It's the best experience to put kids in the perspective of other genders. In fact my brother never turned out to be gay at all, (he is married and has 3 little kids) but with that experience we never had that stereotypical girl-boy siblings relationship, and I'm really proud of how my brother turned out to be, because he always respected us and saw us as equals.

I remember when I was Eleven my little cousin would love to play with my LPS and dolls. It was a way for him and I to bond, as I wasn't interested in baseball or sports. But his dad would get incredibly mad every time he'd catch him with onel even if he was using one of his actions figures when playing. It really angered me at the time, and still does to this day, because it ruined the fun we had shared together for years.

as a boy who played with dolls when I was younger and still has an obsession with looking online for first wave Abby Bominable for under 50 dollars, I hate this stereotype. I think the reason I liked dolls so much was bc one, the hair, and two, the stories I could make. I mean all I could do with cars was make someone die in a car crash and 5 year old me didn’t even know what dying was yet. I still have a bin of dolls in the guest room that I take out every so often just to feel the nostalgia, and I refuse to give them away bc you know what, yes I still have an emotional connection to my Venus McFlytrap doll and I’m not afriad to admit it

I am going to tell my own story here. I was a tomboy growing up in the late 90s. I loved playing outside and not always looking pretty. I have scars from falling down and hurting my knees. I loved Pokémon and Dragon-Ball Z, and loved a lot of "boy toys". But I also loved playing with my Barbies and baby dolls. And Bratz became my life when I was 10 in 2001. But growing up with a Latin mom that wanted certain social norms for me, made me have an identity crisis from a small age. I was told not to like those boy things and only like girly things. I hated it, pink was not my favorite color blue was, I didn't love makeup and nail polish. And was always told to wear dresses. It made me feel as if I wasn't love for begin myself or accepted. That was the worst and I had issues with self-esteem when I was a teenager. I honestly feel if my mom had let me just play, and like whatever show or toy I wanted. I wouldn't have had such an identity crisis as a child. I can never tell anyone how to parent. But please stop placing your ideals on your kids. Let them come into their own, teach them to love and accept themselves. Our parents generation really has a problem with putting people into boxes and then getting mad when they don't want to stay there.

I'm a gender noncomforming woman, I like to dabble with masculinity and presenting myself in a way most comfortable to me. My roommate and best friend is very traditionally masculine, "hick"-like. My passions are art, comic books, cartoons. His are cars, tanks, and fallout-style aesthetics.
However, we've talked at length about the toys we liked as children and how we both think toys shouldn't be gendered.
He's told me he liked playing with his female cousins because all of their toys came with the cool, big, colorful cars that made sounds and had lights. They had miniature kitchens (he loves minatures) and everything was more detailed and more colorful.
I've told him that I never liked playing with dolls, but I did love plush toys and I loved the powerpuff girls and sailor moon. I preferred "boy" toys because they were centered around superheroes and cool fire and ooze and all that stuff.
Gender normative play was still encouraged in my childhood (though not forced) and I still turned out to enjoy leaning more masculine with my femininity in tact. My friend was encouraged to play with gender normative toys but still LOVED to play with female-coded toys, (he also loved sailor moon and the pretty aesthetics) and he is still very much so a "manly"-type man.
I'm sharing this as like, an example to people that don't understand: toys literally have nothing to do with your sexuality or how you present yourself. They're just a way to express yourself when nothing else in your control as a child, and how to have FUN. Kids should be allowed to have fun.

As a historian, color association and meaning have more to do with it than gender norms. Blue is often scene as connecting to the ocean and the sky, from this it is also associated with intellectual and fertility. This fertility is what lent it to a more feminine presentation. Pink on the other hand was seen as a baby color of red, which was associated with blood, war, and leadership-this led it towards a more masculine presentation as men at the time were allowed to take leadership roles and women traditionally were not. So pink would eventually become red for boys and blue would stay blue for girls and women.
This wasn't universal as nothing historically ever was but this trend in Europe is some of what laid the groundwork for our modern culture and association. The mass marketing is defiantly what led to a flip flop as pink was disconnected from red and seen as its own color.
    Love your videos!

I was with my little cousins the other day (one girl, two boys). My girl cousin wanted to pay with a hairdressing toy set she got for her birthday. My boy cousins wanted to braid and brush my hair, (without me forcing them yk). I wanted to brush one of my boy cousins hair and put a hair clip and he said "that's for girls." I obviously told him no, its not. I told him it was no different from brushing his hair in the morning for school. He asked me again "so its ok to play with my sisters dolls if I want to? " and I said "yes, totally." And mind you, he LOVES cars and nerf guns. Just because a little boy likes to brush and braid his hair and put hairclips on, does not mean that he will not like "boys toys" as well, and vice versa.

the fact that this video buzzed up a childhood memory I had with one of my male cousins when I was little! When we were younger, my cousin and I used to play with our toys, I'd bring over mlp and Barbie, and he'd bring over WWE.
The thing about what happened next was actually wholesome, and it's that we played with them together just like we always did. Other memories like me and him playing spider-man and spider-girl saving the world, or how in Summer Camp, me and a couple of my female friends with one or two male friends joined in the playground and used our imagination to our advantage really says things about us all. And it's that, just things seem "girly" doesn't mean that they're less than the other that is more "masculine". Instead, these memories helped teach me empathy towards the male friends and cousins that I'm surrounded with and loved for a long time, and I bet even more so to them.
I don't know, I'm just giving my two cents.

Me and my cousin, who is a guy, played with my barbies and his Max steel dolls all the time, we created weird "telenovela-like" stories xd
He watched Barbie movies on his own, not because of me, but because he was interested on them. Still, he liked his "masculine" toys: hotwheels, dinosaurs and max steels, and he's straight. I played with Barbies, Monster High dolls, Baby dolls, Littlest Pet Shop and I wore dresses, damn, I liked so many girly things at the point that I am a Lesbian xd jajkskajsjsjsk.
Making your Barbie doll have an affair with a Max Steel doll while you watch The Princess and The Pauper or making the same old dinosaur fight with your cat won't make you neither gay nor straight. Another cousin's mom wont let her son play with girls toys and she made fun of my brother for playing with a Barbie (for which he almost cried for me to give it to him). It's not fair that you don't want to force your child to play with something while forcing them to play with something else, sToP dOiNg ThAT >:U

Let kids play, let them collect dolls, let them become adults and still have fun with or, as in your case, have a wellknown youtube-channel and earn money. When i was a kid, boys and girls played together, with Barbie dolls, wrestling dolls, dinosaurs, cars and everything and it was gorgeous. You do a very fine job in making videos and collecting the dolls for your personal fun and isn't it what we all want the most? A job where we could do what we love?

Its not like I'm dressing my son in skirts. Just gender neutral clothing. And in colors that HE LIKES. Yeah, he loves rainbows, and most of the time when picking clothes he picks pink. I just get him all sorts of different options. Like toys wise, ive bought him cars, trucks, dinosaurs etc, as well as dolls and squishmallows. Separating stiff by gender for kids is so dumb. What an insightful video. You are very well-spoken and offer a very well rounded view here. Growing up gay, I was lucky to have parents that didn’t mind me playing with my sisters’ Barbies. They weren’t thrilled of me asking for my own, however, Mom did fight her way through Sears in 83 when she got me a Cabbage Patch Kid for Christmas. One of my sisters always played with me, whether it was dolls or my action figures and cars. I just loved all toys and so did she. Yes, I happened to be gay however, the male cousins who occasionally played with Jem dolls are hetero and just lost interest after a while. What’s great about videos like this is that they are supporting what many parents are already doing so well - Just let your kids be who they want.

READ PLEASE! I masterminded this topic!
Yes I was a doll boy growing up in the 90s/00s - sports, trucks, heroes - simply wasn't my thing. I loved dolls cuz they offered much more variety in playing + I do like fashion & fairytales Barbie world had to offer, and all the creativity behind it.
My parents were supportive of me - but they couldn't stop constant homophobic bullying from the outside world. Kindergarten teacher put me away from a dollhouse, a salesman once took me away from girl shelf in a toy store, a woman from neighborhood yelled at me for loving Barbie...
I always wondered - ok if I can't play with Barbie, but why I can't play with Ken??? Oh nooo, its from girl section, nooo wayyy! Well its toy companies problem that they never made a forever changing male-doll doing all different activities (architect, doctor, superhero, vet, knight etc (Action-man did nothing except being outside in action -_-)) + even if such doll was on the market, if I still liked princess stuff, I want a princess - what was wrong with it???
We sometimes lied that dolls they got me were actually for my older sister.... but growing up came in: constant toxic masculinity & degrading the weaker is a harsh world boys learn as young as 6.
School through all 12 yrs was a nightmare (physical violence too) - at the time you reach puberty, guys & girls are divided - but where to put a fem guy??? Where you will put a weak, unpopular, non-athletic boys??? Most common answer I got was 'don't act that way' (homophobia strikes in, its the exact same thing homophobes say to LGBT population 'do it behind your 4 walls only'). Not to mention that even teachers insult non-conforming guys. People see just 2 genders and 2 ideal roles - man & woman, anything thats not fitting in should be erased from the start.
So as you can see - it all starts when we were born. We aren't homophobic or judgmental by nature - we are taught that way. We are taught about 'norms' - for this to be fixed, children should see all toys as gender-neutral + to learn LGBT stuff from young age; To see 2 husbands on a poster - no, it won't make them gay, just as Ariel & Eric didn't make them straight. Guys should know if they pick up to became a tailor or hairstylist it won't make them any less valuable man.
Boys should play with dolls if they want to, there's nothing wrong with it. They are toys not drugs LOL. If he turns out to be fem & not crazy about cars, its not him that should be fixed, ITS SOCIETY THAT NEEDS FIXING! Stop fixing individuals to fit your stupid norms!!!
For conclusion, I will just leave one quote from Madonnas album:
"Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short, wear shirts and boots cause it's okay to be a boy. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading cause you think being a girl is degrading"

Forcing a boy to play with a doll when he wants to play with cars is like forcing a boy to play with cars when he wants to play with dolls...
    Brilliant detailed video!

This even goes for gaming. People think that gaming should be for boys but gaming with girls are "unlady like" for people. Its a passion that girls can game. Some people need to understand that girls can game too.

I honestly say yes if girls can play with boys toys then boys should play with girls toys. If it makes them happy u should let them play with it.

I love how you always keeps us updated on what happens. But mostly the way you do it, like how you upgraded your self animation into a literal animation, it’s shows you really care. I love it❤️
