I'm personally upset by the fact that Draculaura was made to be a witch in order to be "different" than other vampires, but she was already a vegetarian which made her both unique and ironic?? I appreciate the energy put into the new Monster High, but at the same time I'm so disappointed :/
I'm disappointed they made her mixed & not still be adopted, I have nothing against mixed peoppe I adore Marinette from Miraculous but, I just wish they had her still be adopted to be a role model for kids who are adopted & then brought in a mixed character
I forgot about her being vegetarian, and another thing about that is that her friends were so supportive of that for her and modeled how to be considerate of it in situations when it mattered without shoving it down your throat. They just accepted that freaky flaw about her and didn't make it a big deal. I feel like that's how it should be.
They made my first doll dirty. She was so cute with her cute Lolita outfit and her adorable Transylvanian accent. Also, she was the little sister of the group. Why did they took it away??
It honestly felt so weird and stupid to make witches and magic this taboo thing when mythology has plenty of supernatural witches and it feels weird to basically slap the powers of another separate species onto Draculaura. I mean, I have heard certain mythologies having vampiric witches but those creatures are witches first and blood drinkers second. Though I do believe I have heard of one or two mythical creatures that are supposed to be vampire witch hybrids, but Draculaura isn’t supposed to be either of those. She’s simply just a generic vampire (though I really wish she was part Jiangshi/made her mom a Jiangshi instead of generic vampire because it would’ve been really cool if Monster High had depicted vampires from other mythologies since certain places, vampires can actually get really unique and interesting)
1 month late reply, but I just find it confusing, since they literally had a doll that was supposed to be the daughter of a witch {I think her name was Casta?} so its just weird how they would retcon that and make it a "human" thing.
I hate what they did to my girl Clawdeen. She was always my favorite in the original. Like she’s the big sister of the group and they took away her siblings. They made her just the cliche nerd. Like how does her being half human work she’s already technically part human since that’s what werewolves are half human half wolf. She’s also meant to be the daughter of the wolf man

Since Cleo is supposed to be of royal status, it actually makes a lot of sense why she would have purple in her design because in ancient times in various different cultures purple was only reserve those high status because of how expensive the dye was
little details like this was what made monster high so fun omg
FR also her hair in G3 being more blueish with gold accents reminds me of lapis lazuli, that was a very used crystal in ancient Egypt for certain pigments

One of the things I love about Lagoona is the fact that, instead of making her a stereotypical SpIcY lAtInA like a lot of people might think she is, her anger issues actually come from a generational and dysfunctional family thing. throughout the show, she goes through a character arc of learning how to deal with her anger issues in a healthy way. Lagoona is also been shown to be genuinely terrified that her anger issues will lead her friends to abandon her out of fear. Additionally, Lagoona also has a fully flushed out personality outside of her short-temper she’s bubbly, loyal, upbeat, a hopeless romantic, wildly imaginative. Though I will say, I believe her clear blue legs in her doll form might perhaps be a reference to the fact that she is part sea nymph which could actually turn into water
I think it's sad to change lagoonas race , because for alot of aboriginal Australian girls she was representation. Aboriginal rep is very rare especially In children's media. And I wish they didn't remove it

@@MayWoods_Noisewell headcanons are always a thing, aren't they? Not to mention the creators made draculaura Vietnamese (I think help) and... Romanian? Essentially keeping the Dracula aspect to her, while adding something new. I for one think it'd be a good idea to make lagoona aboriginal and Honduran, perhaps with a story about her family often traveling from Australia to Central America. Who says she can't be both?
@@Mr._Milou within the film Monster High: Great Scarrier Reef it's stated outright that Lagoona experiences racism at the hands of “Freshwater” sea monsters compared to saltwater ones as herself. She is canonically Australian in the original series (It's basically her whole characterisation), and the subtext of the film implies that her family have lived in the reef for centuries. Her family takes care of the reef and its culture, although her “Freshwater” boyfriend is scared of her family, thinking they are monsters.
within the Monster High: 13 Wishes, Lagoona wishes to be a “Freshwater” sea monster, so her boyfriend's parents would accept her. This is a huge reason why many Australian fans of the series identify her as an Aboriginal Australian character. Aboriginal Australian culture is not only the oldest living culture in the world but also her experiences of racism at the hands of these coloniser-like figures of the Freshwater Sea folk.
I understand to a point that non-Australian fans might not see her design as being what they believe to be one of the Aboriginal Australian representations, but this is quite a closed-minded view. One may view her design as being Eurocentric, but many, and I mean many, indigenous Australians have blue eyes, lighter skin and blonde hair. This all connected back to the stolen generation which has created these features (That's a nicer way of saying it if you're confused, I would recommend looking into it on your own)
like come on, it's very clear that her character was intended to be a representation of Aboriginal girls! I'm tired of non-Australian people thinking that Australia is just a lot of white people saying crikey and mate. I think Latino representation is very important in media, but removing representation from an extremely under-represented community in media is just very disheartening for me and other Australians. Monster High I feel has missed a huge opportunity to show people globally the beauty of the world's oldest culture and their people
@@Vesperad0 I have no problem with her being mixed, a lot of Australians are mixed! I have an issue with that part of her character being removed in favour of another. and I think head cannons are great! I have a lot of my own, but I think removing cannon and telling a minority group just to deal with it is crappy.
(by the way, none of what I say is personal or an attack on anyone in this reply, it's just my expression of my extreme disappointment of Monster High)
While I appreciate the fact that G3 Cleo gave her a darker skin tone, more wrappings, and incorporates the mummies keeping the organs preserved in jars/she needs to keep her jars close with her or else that bad things will happen such as she gets to far from her inner ear and she loses her sense of balance, I still feel like she looks like a human girl who took creative liberties when designing a Egyptian princess outfit. I also agree with the people saying she looks like Isabella from Encanto. I really wish that they covered far more of her body in bandages leaving perhaps her face or some of her face visible, make her look more dried out in order to give her that more embalmed look since that’s what mummies are, just embalmed corpses wrapped in cloth, or even made her Scalera black like I’ve seen certain redesigns of her
i think it's worth it to mention a lot of criticism people had for g1 cleo when g1 first released was also that she just looked like a human girl! i've spent a lot of time recently watching older videos & reading old forum posts and it was something that was said a lot
@@monkee2190 I also agree that g1 and even g2 Cleo looked like a human. I mean pretty much every mummy in g1 save for the Mr.Mummy the Clawculus teacher and Cleo’s dad just looked like humans in costumes. Even though g2 Cleo’s younger sisters Pharrah and Sandy had their whole body save for their faces covered in bandages, they still looked human. I really wish Mattel would put more effort into making the mummies look undead

I think having parts where the bandages fell off being more mummy than the parts still wrapped, like one of her arms just being essentially jerky because there were no bandages there. Her face should still be fully human, though. She can't be "too scary" or kids won't want it. And parents won't buy it either if they deem the doll to scary. This is a kids' franchise, after all. The jars idea still would work for this, as there is magic and you could do some fun things with that. Like have them be little accessories on her like where they should be in her body. Like a heart jar as a necklace for example. And her fashion style could be closer to Bohemian by more Egyptian. Maybe even pulling from current Egyptian fashion trends.
They all look amazing but I love the rendering on Clawdeen in particular!! 💗

I'm so glad you brought up the fatphobia. I've watched monster high but I was never into it as a kid. I was a dvd kid and didn't have the series or most movies. One thing I did know is that their was barely and body diversity. For context I am a fat girl. When I saw Draculora was now chubby I was really happy because such a now beloved character looked like me. Then I saw all the fatphobia 💀

literally every other doll brand consisted of stick-thin dolls for decades, but when the daughter of a mythical creature is fat, everyone’s upset? idk it just seems like such a silly thing to get upset over. if haters want a skinny Draculaura, they can still buy one :/ but personally i love the body diversity lol

A small or so part of why I think the G3 designs are so crapped on is because the fashion from G1 was definitely for the time.
Or before the release, taking inspiration from the edgier, more goth and angsty styles of the era.
G3 has definitely taken on the appearance of what Today's fashion is. Give or take. Depends on what you're looking for.
While also more gearing towards being a more exaggerated take on the characters themselves mixed in. It's.. basically Pinterest Mood Boards

Honestly if I think of G3 as an alternative universe, it’s not that bad. G1 and G3 both had pros/cons. The only thing is G3’s fashion is just not my taste, BUT it’s definitely cute and appealing! 😊
I don't care much about fashion, the characters are what makes me attached to G3, so I'm not super critical of G3's fashion. But I will admit that some designs could be better.
g3 is exactly that!! they are different generations, it's absolutely not supposed to be the same thing or replace the old one
Monster high g3 and g1 are part of a multiverse now, so they're literally different realities.
This might sound harsh but imo it just seems lazy to rehash a character & give them a different personality etc like I would've thought they'd go the MLP route & show us future generations of these characters instead of rehashing them

In my opinion, I may dislike the design choices in a fashion sense and simply character design BUT this gen is going to be very dear in my heart for the representation. From what I've seen in clips and reviews, it is ultimately a sweet show that empathizes treating others with respect and kindness along with boundaries.
Especially the mental health rep, I love my ghoul Twyla.
Neighthan could've been such a cool concept, healing powers from his unicorn side AND decay from his zombie side? I wish he showed both more than just abilities. I want that skeletal ROT and healthy complexation combination. I want that PRETTY BOY aesthetic that The Last Unicorn gives with the Techwear aesthetic Ghoulia Yelps has.
I'll only want him back if they decide to go with the original plan of making him gay! Originally he was supposed to be gay but Mattel changed it to make him Frankie's boyfriend. Honestly, I never found him interesting, and then I heard about it and I was kind of pissed off.

the g3 cartoon is cute, there’s some good jokes and gags but everyone talks like theyre trying to get a good grade in therapy 💀 it was a bit grating but it’s made for kids so i can’t really complain too much
Imo, I prefer the g3 dolls to the 3D models for the show/movie. They just look weird😭 also, they need to take notes from you, these are SO good‼️

Thank you!! I was so sick of tiktok constantly complaining about the diverse body types when it’s literally the point of the series to accept others differences!! I’ve adored monster high since 2012, and as much as I love G1, I think G3 does a much better job with the main message of the story. Honestly my only gripes were some of the fashion choices when it came to the dolls - but generally speaking I love their bases, quality, and dynamics between the characters
personally, i really love the new generation’s show. i’ve been a fan of monster high since day one, but i can admit there wasn’t too much diversity, even when they tried it wasn’t always the best 😭 but this generation really tries to accurately portray other cultures, sexualities, disabilities, etc. and as someone who is POC, queer, and ND i really appreciate this, i would’ve loved this kind of representation as a kid, and im so glad a new generation of children will be able to see themselves in the show!

Clawdeen was my favorite when i was a kid, i even dressed up as her for Halloween one year and i still have the costume, you did my girl justice, i love this design and you made the glasses look really pretty and stylish!! Glasses are beautiful, i just feel like they didn't really match in the og. And Lagoona being my second favorite, i loved her as well. THANK YOU SM for bringing her original hair back, that was all i needed, her hair is so freaking beautiful, i was heartbroken when i saw the new one 😔😔 that and your amazing skills made the pink skin work!!

As an OG MH fan, I absolutely ADORE G3! Yea it’s not perfect, but people are REALLY mean to it. I’m turning 21 this year, and ngl the show is really cute and heartwarming. I like how they use witchcraft as something tied to the humans of the world, it’s sort of like their monster power? Not only that but they tend to use it as an allegory for I think being queer? There is not one way to be queer, and in season 2 they go more into how everyone has their own way of expressing their magic (everyone being mostly the 3ish characters we’ve seen who wish to learn it). It’s pretty much forbidden in the beginning, sort of like “Don’t ask don’t tell (I think that’s what it was called)”, and Draculaura even has a “coming out” equivalent to her father later in season 1. Ngl the more they build on it the less the fact witches were changed bugs me. Also supposedly the reason the show outfits and the doll outfits are so different was because they show was being produced before the designs were finalized, so everyone is basically in 1 version of their beta outfits. Also if you do watch the series, the movies and the show are completely different universes? Or different canon’s, but I think the show, dolls, and web series are all the same canon. Love your redesigns, I love how much thought you put into them! If you do watch the show, I hope you enjoy it!
I watched this video thinking this was going to be an unfair criticism of g3, and I was so shocked when it wasn’t. I absolutely love this video!! Your designs are so beautiful and make sense, and I love how understanding you are of g3 and don’t overly and unnecessarily hate like others tend to do. I don't really like the animation style in the show, so the designs felt very weird. I didn't like Abby at all, BUT THAT DOLL?? Absolutely gorgeous. This is the first time I've seen it, you just changed my mind about her
I think your Clawdeen and Frankie design was by far my favorite of the bunch.. Sense you had a hard time with cleo I thought I could give some Idea/tips? I think something that carrys the gen 3 deisgn was the Egyptian pattern on the skirt, so maybe adding that would look better. The purple isn't.. bad.. I just think if you took away all the purple from everything except the gemstones that would look good! (sense their would simply just be accents of purple at the bottom and top of her) Aswell as just cutting off all of the sleeve above her elbow would look cool too. also the little thing resting on top of the skirt doesn't seemed to be facing the same direction as her legs, but that is just what I would do! It doesn't mean the design is horrible.
I love g3, the movies are... bad but from what I've seen from the series it's pretty good. They do alot to normalise mental health, disabilities and lgbtq (i heard cleo and frankie have a crush on eachother but i haven't gotten that far into the series yet.) They have a few lore changes like witches are considered more of a human thing because in this version anyone can learn the spells and perform the craft. It's something that Draculura has to do in secret because she could be kicked out of monster high and ruin her father's reputation (he's some sort of highly respected political figure or something like that.) They also have this cool concept where mummies need to keep their jars of body parts near them so that the body parts can function which is why she carries a handbag. I haven't finished the series yet so there could be more stuff like this that i don't know about.
I absolutely ADORE how people are standing up to G3, it’s honestly real sad how so many people are getting so damn hung up at the diversity they wanted to add to the show. Is that not what the original was trying to do, or were y’all just here to be here? That’s some real miserable behavior.
Really aside from the new dolls clothes, I love the designs they were going for! And having my two favorite characters (Clawdeen and Frankie) be both part of the LGBTQ community and the spectrum makes me so happy! People really need to get over themselves and realize that it’s a damn kids show, having more diversity will mean the world to them, let them enjoy it in peace.

I loved monster high as a kid! My favourite was Jackson/Holt.
I LOVED the old Clawdeen and I still love her in G3 (except her current outfit...TuT), as well as her redesign, which is amazing. But in terms of personality, I love Cléo (just because she's a gossipy friend, she won me over-). From G3's current design, Venus and Abby are the best, but I also like Draculara.

The show is awesome. It talks about therapy, healthy sibling relationships, cultural appropriation, have queer representation, a good soundtrack, and beautiful animation.

I love these!! I gotta be honest, I was a g3 hater when it first came out but I think that was the nostalgia now. The new gen has so many cool aspects, and while I have my criticisms (like clawdeen being a dorky unaware kid, instead of maybe a confident individual who knows she’s different and finds her pack/found family siblings at monster high) I do think more highly of the new designs now. I think you really did them justice too!!
I LOVE THESE REDESIGNS!!!!! The g3 dolls are gen rlly cute but I have a severe bone to pick with the show vers… seeing a mix with the og and the g3 dolls make me so happy!
Frankie was already one of my favorite if not my most favorite character in the original series and G3 Frankie I absolutely adore. I love the fact that they’re taller, the queer representation, the fact they got a prosthetic leg, the fact that they’re feminine AFAB non-binary character, the autism-coding (as someone who has autism I relate to a lot of their different qualities and quirks a lot). I also really love giving a bold fashion to your redesign of Frankie as well as their really cute short hair
I would love to see what you do, with G3 Ghoulia and Catty in part 2 for this, remember there's already 17 different characters in G3 so far as signature doll's overall, some have been in the G3 show others haven't yet but would like your take on them.

the reason i think cleos design was just so BLUE is because Egypt really only had blue😭😭 and i think they just didnt know how to portray it well with that character

My favorite was definitely Clawdeen, Frankie easily being second! Omg your Clawdeen looked absolutely stunning, the outfit ate and it was definitely what the g3 was missing (I do like her g3 design no hate) :D

no hate to the people that enjoy the live action movie, but honestly, i wouldn’t recommend watching it- at least, in terms of gaining context on monster high g3. it’s placed in a completely different universe than the monster high animations, and provides no context to the webisodes, movies, or series. and seems like a cursed fanfiction adaptation more than anything.
although, i do believe the actors did an amazing peformance with what they were given, it isn’t a necessary watch to keep up with the new monster high :)
THESE ARE AMAZINGGGG!!! Clawdeen looks so freaky cool!!! I love how unique her fashion look, its gorgeous & says a lot about her personality, and I think you captured her really well!!! I actually really love your Cleo redesign!! I think you definitely did her justice! And Drac is so cutee!!! Her outfit blends elements of historical outfits with a much more modern twist so well, and really matches her + makes sense for her being 1600! Lagoona’s and Frankie’s outfits look so fun, and really match the characters!! All your designs are absolute gorgeous and i love them smmm
g3 and g2 are so much different from g1. i personally believe that the g1 designs are more stylish than g2 and g3's designs and so do many others, so i think that's why people dislike g3 and g2. if they were released without g1 then they would likely be well received
I’ve never really watched Monster High, but when G3 came out my little brother and I watched the movie and MAN did they do Clawdeen and a few others dirty, and not only that but they made a 2nd one like barely a few months after it came out w/ a animated show too. I think for sure it’s hard to capture a design everyone will like, especially with Monster High bc there’s so much options and potential and everyone has a certain fashion taste, there’s not much that’s like totally in or out rn. I think you did a rlly good job w/ the redesigns, I think Draculara and Lagoona had to be my favorite!!

I'd definitely love to see a part 2 to this. My favorite character is ghoulia, and they did her DIRTY. on a more positive note though, I think they did a great job with Twyla. The cozy bedtime feel really fits her being the boogeyman's daughter, and I absolutely love the dust bunnies.
i LOVE your Frankie they are SO cute. The short lightning bolt hair fits them so well
I think your frankie redesign actually makes more sense for her character than the preppy style she usually has and i wish this could be incorporated into her look. It looks like someone discovering fashion and how to express themselves while showcasing that electrifying and mashed up vibe

Love these so much! I’ve never been the hugest monster high fan but my sisters have always been really into it so I’ve watched the show/ seen a lot of the dolls by proxy sooo. I really love all the designs! My favorite has gotta be clawdeen. I was really surprised at the direction you took Lagoona- she’s adorable, don’t get me wrong, but she has such a different vibe from her other versions it was interesting to see your take. As a big girl I don't like draculauras new build, but that's because I always saw her as the petite, boyish frame type. I'd actually love to see lagoona plus sized. It makes sense to me an athlete would have a bit extra muscle around her thighs and torso, which can give that pear-shape new draculaura has. I'd love to see more range in body types too but I think it would be genuinely hard to truely represent a lot of body types without being accused of sexualising the characters

I have been a Monster High fan since it came out! I adore your designs!!! And THANK YOU for commenting on the excessive hate. I see what a lot of people are talking about, but some are just outright mean. I also love the new body types.
My only ick was the fashion itself.
As someone who loves Scooby Doo, girly things and Halloween, it was EYE OPENING to see the fashion and have dolls that had these extravagant dresses or beautiful clothes from the edgier gothic or leaning to this washy shine the 3D animation gave them that made me adore them soooo much.
Seeing the G3, it made me bawl since the 3D made them very plain and gave a more neon or brighter pallet that G1 didn’t have much of unless you looked at clothes or special episodes with the mix. The only ones I liked was Draculara as she was the same but with changes that I could get behind but being a witch which seems like it was a throw in, and her change in story too. And the bane was Cleo, Clawdeen, and Lagoona. The changes and the change for Lagoona made me kinda itch my skin.
But I looooove the way you tried to change around it. The way you explained the changes and criticism is a great take and I love the attention you did for it. I especially liked Lagoona since she looked softer, a mix of her G1 and kept in the fresh waters and shiny colors. I actually shrivel seeing the change since rainbow is one of those things that feels the pick anyone would do for marketing and such, but I adore Lagoona and you did great for Cleo.

My favourite of your version Roster is Clawdeen she just looks so lovely and fashionable is just amazing in every way I love her so much, it also have the new live action movies vibe which is a good think as that design would looked better in dolls is a pretty design love the hair so much
i already loved g3 lagoona, but your design for her is PERFECT!! i love the coral-y shade of pink you used and the beach girl aesthetic suits her so well
