Hi I've watched your videos since I was 6 I'm now 14, your videos inspired me to start collecting dolls.
Theory: Howleen was never sold separately because they didn't believe Howleen would've sold successfully. So they added Clawdeen so that if people wanted the Clawdeen doll, they would also have to get Howleen. This also ties in with Holween's rebooted look. If I remember correctly, Mattel wanted her to look more "girly"? Which is a shame cuz I think her original design is much more cute :(
I could definitely see this being a possibility. The claim was that they made Howleen's hair pink because management thought "girls don't like the color orange" - the original Howleen was both orange and blue, colors that are "traditionally" associated with boys, but I loved her original design and while i love all the variations of Howleen, it's a shame to literally watch her visually change into a more "typical" design as more dolls of her came out. Clawdeen was likely included to be the more "feminine" counterpart with vibrant purples and strappy heels.

I'm not a huge fan of her I'm going to justify her actions for this, she's probably not a huge fan of dolls so it's definetly a better decision for her to sell the doll rather than to just leave it on a shelf or in a box stored away and collecting dust

I don't know if I'd say she was ungrateful, I think her time with Mattel was likely under management that wanted to create a certain image for her that she didn't resonate with. As someone who works in entertainment, it becomes difficult to enjoy much of anything when you're feeling forced to be someone you're not - I'm actually glad she sold off the doll so a Monster High collector that will cherish the doll can enjoy it, and she doesn't have to feel haunted by a time in her life that doesn't represent who she is now as an artist and indivdual.

Fun fact: I live really close to the Indonesian Mattel factory, so back than when my little sister bought a barbie and it said "made in Indonesia" I always thought "it was just made a few Kilometers from my house but we have to bought it at store in another city which is like 35 Kilometers away" 🤣

The Zombie Gaga doll was in 2016, Madison Fear was 2013. So...lil ironic there lol
to be fair, Madison was a bit older and was probably at the age where she didn't want to be associated with kid stuff. She was also JUST starting out in her career and probably didn't know what decisions to make. Lady Gaga, however, is known to be out there and adventerous with her ideas and image. It's basically her brand so that's why whenever i think about it, Lady Gaga has a more believable connection to the franchise than Madison.

Wow! I had no idea about La Teenaz but it’s so disappointing it was never picked up! I’m guessing they represented a variety of different Latinas with different hair textures and skin tones judging off the short clip. Think about how much this could’ve done for the Latinx community! Now I’m sad as a Latina that they were never released!
Agreed! I'm not sure why the line was never picked up - but it makes me wonder how many other diverse doll lines were close to being finalized yet never made it to store shelves.
clawdeena9 I suppose it’s because it was marketed to a specific group of people, you tend to want to make doll lines that have a doll for every group of people to get a lot of people to see it marketed to them.
Making a doll line for Latina’s would be great for them but also really bad for the market.
It could be a good idea for a Barbie spin off line, just like they did with S.I.S
There's a lot of people in these comments hating on Madison Beer but keep in mind she was a LITERAL CHILD promoting Monster High! She was 14 when the movie came out, cut her some slack.
I agree, it's important to be mindful that people grow and change over time - if anything I blame her publicist for not prepping her properly prior to an interview.

I mean, she was like 14 or 15. Obviously a common teenager would think of it as embarrassing. I was a huge monster high fan, but at age 15, i would feel reaaally embarrassed. I am getting back into dolls now at age 17! But I think a quote by C.S. Lewis describes this situation best:
"To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. ... When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
So yeah, it is a child or teen thing to do - to feel embarrassed about childish things and try to act cool and grown up. It would probably be especially humiliating in some places, for a teen to collect dolls while their friends hang out and smoke and drive motorcycles. Not saying doing all that is a good thing, but it would be humiliating from an average teen's perspective, so I completely understand her and don't blame her one bit.

As a boy doll collector (yes, both meanings...I'm a boy, and I collect boy dolls) it's always frustrating to see potential boy dolls being canceled. As doll lines are technically aimed towards girls, it's rare to get a boy, or occasionally one token boy (like in Rainbow High), so it's sad to miss out on more male characters, especially when they are based on animation where the ratio of boy and girl characters are almost the same.

While it’s sad that she gave her doll away and spitted on her work, Madison was 14-15 and she probably felt embarrassed to be working with a child brand since she was becoming a teenager/older. It’s understandable for her to not like the image they were making her appear as, but she could have been a little bit more respectful.

i’m gonna be honest, it’s kind of annoying how you say “if you wanna see ______, make sure to keep on watching!” or whatever like 5 times in every video, you can just say it once in the beginning, it’s a 12 minute video, I haven’t forgotten. Just an observation from an adult viewer, maybe this is what kids like

If you wanna see if I'll drop the gimmick...just keep on watching my other videos!! Lmao - kidding - note taken! Right now I've tested saying it at different time stamps, different topics, & different amounts to see if there's differences in viewer watch time based on when it's said/how many times it's said. I have had higher watch time since saying it more frequently which is an indicator the phrase may be doing it's job - however, I think anything that feels forced or a plea to stay on screen becomes tedious so I'll test saying it less in my next video and see how it performs in comparison!

Thanks for this video. Enjoyed it, especially the sequence with Madison Beer and the Madison Fear doll. What made it interesting to me is that the doll was designed to be the "Daughter of the Siren". Back in 2017 I did a sketch entitled "Melody Carver is Missing." Melody of course was a main character in the original Monster High novels who would later discover she was the daughter of a siren. As far as I know she has never appeared in any of the animation or as a doll. Perhaps Madison Fear is the reason they chose not to use the character. There have been other musical characters through out the line.
So I drew Melody as I imagined her in the animation (seen here on my instagram instagram.com/p/BSfdD1RlRb9/?).
