@@evie3190 Where have you been? I'm sure if you love the man so much then you should surely know about the Beatles and the Paul McCartney Is Dead hoax. Supposedly Paul McCartney died in 1966 and they replaced him with William Shears Campbell, a Paul McCartney look-alike who won a Paul McCartney look-alike contest back in 1966. And when I said it's good the man is alive and not really dead I was just kidding around figuring you would know all about the hoax. And Billy Shears of course is the lead singer of the fictitious band Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band that the Beatles recorded by the name Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. They even introduced Billy Shears at the beginning of the song With a Little Help from My Friends that is on the Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. I hope you can figure that out. It’s interesting, though, that Stephen described the song’s effect on him a bit differently in this interview than in his discussion with Anderson Cooper. He told Anderson the song reminded him of his family tragedy, but he told Paul it reminded him of the innocent time immediately before that. Maybe it affects him differently on different days, depending on the mood he’s already in. It’s funny how the mind works.

I cannot remotely imagine what it must feel like for him (and Ringo, and in their own time George and John) to feel that adoration and acknowledgement from SO many people, for SO many years. I've loved the guy as well since 1964 (I'm an original Beatlemaniac in my early 60s!) but he's not as honest as you think he is. I am NOT trying to put him down because like all original Beatlemaniacs, to me he's like a brother that I've never met. Unless you grew up while the Beatles were together you can never really know the depth of feeling we had, and still have, for those guys.
Paul does tend to revise history to make himself look even better than he is. He doesn't have to lie to make himself look good because he is a generally very nice person and he's given the world more happiness than probably anyone else in the 20th century but, for some reason, he stretches the truth a lot. Maybe it's insecurity or maybe his ego is bigger than most and all the great things he's done aren't enough in his own mind. I think it may be both but who knows?
In the end, I think that of all four of them, he's handled his fame the best and has managed to stay relatively more mentally healthy and level headed than the other three but he's not the blameless angel that a lot of people make him out to be. I would say these same kind of things about my real brother if necessary but I still love the guy.

Watching the Beatles for the first time on the Ed Sullivan show, and now, a lifetime, decades, later. I'm even, more captivated by most musical, magical, mystical , marvelous mastros - Paul John George Ringo

But "Sir Paul" (William) is not the same Paul that got his break in the Ed Sullivan show. William joined the Beatles as an already set up affair late 1966.

I love Paul McCartney so much. I saw him live with my dad in 2009 and my dad was crying to much and so was I. It’s such a core memory for me and my dad. It took my dad back to his childhood in the 60’s and it took me back to a place that I didn’t necessarily exist in but it just does something to me

Poor Stephen 😔 I could tell he couldn't help but reminisce about his brothers & late father. But he also has a huge star infront of him he's interviewing so he keeps his composure. Great interview Colbert!

i don't have that kind of connection to the beatles, it's their amazing body of work that's impressive. and their timing was perfect. they weren't only a seminal shift in music, and the best band in the world, they were also an integral part of a grand social and cultural change in human history.

I wish this interview could have been a sit-down, two or three-hour thing. Great interview by Colbert. McCartney is gracious and down to earth.

Colbert is a very intelligent man who may well have asked the best questions of McCartney ever in a talk-show, TV-type setting. Not that I've seen 'em all! But this was extremely well done.

If Colbert is so "intelligent", why does he keep referring William as "Paul McCartney" ?

He is amazing, I’m 33 and go crazy about him. My dad got me into the Beatles and listening to him and the band their songs brings back memories of me as a little kid listening to them with my dad. Love Paul McCartney.

I was expecting Paul to say that Elvis did for him what he does for us, but it will remain as mere guesswork at this point. Still, this segment had me in tears. Sir Paul gets it like no other musician does.

Little Richard was his great influence. The Beatles (Silver at the time) even opened for him in Hamburg back in the day.
That's why Paul sings "Long Tall Sally" to this day.
Kind of like how I'll play "American Pie" for my kids until they are sick of it. Lol
But I don't care, I love it enough for all of us!
