Back then they played their songs faster live, now they play them slower. No joke FBM live nowadays is probably 15 BPMs slower than this video and it's ridiculous how heavy it is.
@@mushroomjesus2068 I have to agree lol. It actually really grind my gears when bands play faster live so I probably couldn't sit through a Pearl Jam concert. If they slow down though it's all good. Groove matters
They were definitely ahead of their time, true pioneers. Amazing video btw, it's always good to see pre-2000s videos where you can actually make out someone's face 🤣
People forget how good video cameras had actually got just before digital. Most footage you see has been copied off 2-3 VHS tapes with a cheap digital converter, the source tape is usually pretty solid quality. Same reason why people think cassettes were shit when everyone recorded songs off the radio onto them.
For real. Most people at the time probably still thought Slayer and Pantera were the heaviest stuff around. Even if one had heard of Machine Head, Fear Factory or SYL these guys would have still been mind-blowing.
Most of Meshuggah's music is like an amalgamation of technical thrash and industrial metal, with lots of groove. I never understood why people called them "progressive".
@@fullmetalguy8357 the reason this band sounds similar to industrial metal is simply because they play mind bogglingly precise intricate rhythms that often sound mechanical. Calling them an industrial metal band feels incorrect to me though.
Destroy Erase Improve is an unique kind , the perfect line between Thrash and Groove with technical composing and still sounding nothing like the bands around in that time
@@fullmetalguy8357 Because it is literally progressive thinking. People have that images that Prog is somewhat like Yes or Dream Theater. To me prog is bands like Faith no more, Meshuggah, King Crimson, Soundgarden, Deathspell Omega, Neurosis, Dillinger Escape Plan, Talking Heads that are actually pushing boundaries.
Choasphere and Nothing are primo meshuggah albums. and I is amazing. I mean I like all their music. But by the time catch 33 and Obzen came out- I had felt like I had already kinda played out messhugah. although I think they have really matured their sound. Especially live
>>> Humiliative
It's really bizarre to hear Meshuggah not playing 100% note perfect and ultra tight
Sounds pretty tight to me, for a live show and no click track.
@@joemarley5982they could have done it better, like it's great but imperfect, and you can tell jens is struggling a bit too haha

And it sounds better!

It’s crazy how much tighter they play nowadays. For most bands it’s the opposite
To be fair they play this song considerably slower now than they did back then.
Fun Fact! Redditors love the smell of their own farts
Back in early 2000s even Wikipedia listed Meshuggah as simply "experimental metal".
They really were different.
Don't you mean.. Experimetal?
Jens Kidman rocking the Prince Zuko haircut
This sounds like an uncountable Pantera
They were definitely ahead of their time, true pioneers. Amazing video btw, it's always good to see pre-2000s videos where you can actually make out someone's face 🤣
Ya and the music sounds great too strangely enough. Used to these looking and sounding like absolute trash lol. Fucking amazing 🤘

@@kyleking3087 I know it's actually pretty annoying! Not everything before 2006 was filmed on an unregistered hypercam 2 🤣
4:39 the piercing screams here are uncanny! Never heard it again like that
Those aren't piercing screams, but still good.
thats exactly how he does it on the album version of this song
This would be only time in history where that Marty McFly line would make sense. Inarguably one of the greatest bands of all time.
This looks like it was filmed last week. Thanks for putting this up
Aside from everyone being 30 years younger lol the video quality is really good for the 90s.
A lot of photos and film from the 90’s looks great. There’s people convinced Tupac is still alice because of how good his selfies are.
Except that Fredrik and Marten are playing 7 string guitars here, which tells you that this is old lol
It's so strange seeing them without some intense lighting setup 😂
Look at these young blokes. They're going to go places! I can just tell
Really impressed by this whole performance but especially Jens's vocals. I effin' love that 90's Jens vocal tone. #ManWithLongTail
Poor Fredrick having to be his own guitar tech for the entire song. 🤣
Meshuggah is a very important band.
This is high quality footage considering it's from 1997. How can i find the whole gig?
From svt website
Here you go
@DEA-I-H FVCK DES-I-ROYER oh .. i found on svt website 😂
@DEA-I-H FVCK DES-I-ROYER I got notification that you replied to me and it left me scared and confused for a few seconds., thanks though!
Future Bread Machine.
This is absolutely gold. Old Meshuggah is the shit.
This is why I love UA-cam. I never would've been able to see this back then.
Backing vocals though... simply great!
This is a high energy performance.
Classic!! Late 90s were awesome!
This video has better quality than my 2022 surveillance camera!
A band of the future, this is amazing
Insane shit. The heaviest stuff if the era by faaaaaaaar
For real. Most people at the time probably still thought Slayer and Pantera were the heaviest stuff around. Even if one had heard of Machine Head, Fear Factory or SYL these guys would have still been mind-blowing.
Ever heard Suffocation or Cryptopsy?
They knew their stuff. And were really great sounding already then. And they had hair. Some at least.🎶🤘🖖
So energetic so heavy so badass! Old meshuggah rules! New meshuggah is sick too!
This sounds exactly like the album amazing
Outstanding sound quality and performance , in their best phase imo
First of their albums I bought, still my favourite band
The future belonged to them
💯
holy shit the quality of the video and the sound is amazing
Saw the thumbnail and thought "holy sh*t, the leader has hair; then I watched the video, and oh boy, what a hair it is.
MESHUGGAH 🥇 es todo lo que está bien! Honores desde Argentina
Jens hair is Viking GOALS 🤘🤘🤘
no IEMs no click track just pure skill
I remember exactly the moment in 90's when a good friend said to me "hear this" from his stereo at home.... me... "whaaaaaatttttaaaaafuckkkkkkk"
Jens's hair though lol
It's a "bullet" (bald mullet). ;p
aka a skullet...
really suits him imho. incredible how he's still doing his thing better than ever, 3 decades & change later. amazing really...
I gotta say, this kinda kicks ass.
Evolution in reverse...
Very true
This was fuking incredible, pls keep them coming...holy shize
9 days ago uploaded from a time before people could truly appreciate what Meshuggah was creating. Brilliant.
Thank you for this.
If only i had knew of Meshuggah when i was in high school!
Had knew? 😅
thank you for upscaling this
Post-thrashcore proto-djent groove
Probably the only band that saved (& reinvented) metal in the 90s... although Nile did help as well.
The 90s were arguably the most creative time for metal as a whole. Meshuggah were far from the only band to innovate the genre in that era.
Absolutely impeccable 🔥
thanks for that!!!
Awesome footage. So cool seeing multi cam shots of this quality at this point of their career.
Very fkin historical !! 🤘🏼
Thank You so much for this upload
That solo thou....
Holy hell! That resolution is insane!
3:22 There it is, folks.
Classic footage!
Masterpiece
To be 27 again during this time of ground breaking metal….

Catchy tune.

5:17 Nice scream!
2 more weeks to see them again!
Nostalgic
I was hated on my whole life for liking meshuggah because they were too repetitive lol. I wonder why they are still around better than ever.
They don’t even repeat the exact same pattern inside of their own songs. Really funny
Sick
Please upload the full show on this amazing quality! cheers!

MESSUGAH and Pantera should have toured, then and now
Where did you even find this treasure!?!?!❤❤
I wish I could go back in time to be there in the pit.
Young:D
Woah. A fucking relic. Nice.
Freddy mustve been pissed when that patch cord came out right at solo time...
Fucking Unreal
🤘🔥🤘
Can you believe this is how they end their shows 25 years later in 2022?

Holy fuck

Acho que o Phil Anselmo se inspirou no Meshugah!!! Que pedrada de música!!! Meshuga descobriu os buracos de minhoca desde 1987.
Anyone know what the “OP” or “CP” , I couldn’t never really see the first letter on his guitar and cabinet, means?
Fredrik couldn't not sound like Holdsworth if he tried haha
Great videos, where was this show shot at?

Weird to see Tomas with just a double-pedal single bass drum setup. It definitely loses a lot of sound.
