You might notice that Tomas no longer counts down with a cymbal before a song, that is because the click track counts down for them. That or Meshuggah actually has psychic powers to communicate with each other before each song and count down telepathically, or they could alsobe robots. or just be total badasses that they don't need a countdown to start a song simultaneously

      @VelRyphon 8 років тому +25

      ***** This is because, not only are they very good musicians, but also is their music quiet simple, not over-arranged with many details. They have a simple receipe : no chords, no melody/harmony, groove/weird synched rythmics, and a fucking soul in it. As a consequence, in live, there is no technical limit ^^. This band is certainly the most innovative music act since 20 years.

    • @zbim3926
      @zbim3926 8 років тому +11

      +Jérémy Belin I don't agree with you Jerem (je suis français aussi mais je parlerai en anglais pour que tout le monde comprenne). The technique resides in groove. To play these stuffs, you've got to have an extremely good sense of tempo. It's difficult playing syncoped rythm and especially off-beats insofar as it's very strict (rigorous). Take a look at The mouth licking what you've bled or Dancers to a discordant system. These guys are all alive metronomes. It might be simple compared to death metal bands, but let me tell you it's very hard to keep the time correct for the whole song when you play it.

    • @VelRyphon
      @VelRyphon 8 років тому +9

      +Zbim Bam of course it's still difficult to play, but far away from technical death metal like Obscura or Spawn Of Possession for example. Thinking that brutal death metal is just about speed is often a big mistake (depends on the band of course). Polyrithmics are also in speed oriented death metal bands, which is more difficult to play. But Meshuggah, with its slow paced extreme metal, has huuuge amount of grooves, not the case for extreme death metal ^^.

    • @zbim3926
      @zbim3926 8 років тому

      Or Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Misery Index, Pig Destroyer :P But I meant compared to speed, it's sure Meshuggah seems little beside. However it's much groovier ;)

    The mix sounds mmmmassive here. Everything is perfectly compressed, every instrument is understandable, the punch is enough to make out each note but also enough to distort them brutally... Also, talking about the album itself, it has a perfect composition and sounds amazing, but beyond that it has a peculiarity: This album still remains incomprehensible to the audience.
    To clarify my thoughts a bit, if this album came out in the year 2045, it would be ahead of its time.
    And to think that it was released in 1998 is beyond explanation.

    I was not very into meshuggah before. I knew it was incredible music but was not exactly my tastes. Too complex, too much informations sort of say.
    And then I heard the rim shot at 4:20 followed by this sick as shit riff !
    Been a huge meshuggah fan ever since.

    Listening to the track and then watching them play it live are two different experiences. Jesus fucking cyanide Christ. I've seen em do it twice myself in person!

    That last part of the song....soooooo many metal bands from the past 15 years owns these guys some fucking respect. I love for instance, after the burial but their riff on "bread crumbs and white stones" sounds so similar.

    Tomas Haake is a MONSTER undoubtedly and is definitely the reason behind why #MESHUGGAH sounds so monstrous and the snare that he uses - SONOR bell bronze (discontinued now) ...OMG that sounds so killer and cuts amazingly well to the mix ...
