The other guy gets it. The difference between 18 dating 28 and 30 dating 40 is massive. One is fresh out of high school, maybe still lives with parents or just moved out, hasn’t developed independently and experienced life yet. After you become an adult, there’s just adults. The idea of needing to be within one or two years of the person you’re dating comes from dating as a minor, a teenager who goes to high school or college. That is a school age idea of dating. Thinking you need to be within a year or two of the person you’re dating is childish thinking. You could meet a 25-year-old woman who is wise beyond her years and intelligent and beautiful and you could meet a 45-year-old man who might as well be 20.

@@dalton2592 while an 18 year old is technically a legal adult, they are still technically an adolescent which is a phase of childhood so yes 18 year olds are still children and probably shouldn’t be participating in adult themes like sexual exploration. Sex is for adults, not children.

If physical attraction is important to someone in the early years of the relationship, then they are looking for the youngest, hottest person they can legally date. If a guy gets into a long term relationship with a girl much younger, initially the physical might be what draws him to her, but as they age, that will become less important because eventually everyone becomes old and ugly. It's different if he has to start out with an older woman.

Hmmmm! I remember when my brother was 17-18, and he had a rich ladyfriend who was in her late 60s. She picked him up and carried him everywhere. Afterwards, I heard he dated her mother, who was in her 90s. The reason I am saying is because my schoolmates who lived near her kept asking me if I was kin to that older woman up the street. I replied in the negative. But, asked them why? They snickered and revealed to me that my brother kept visiting her in the midnight hours. I thought no wonder she crazy about him. They matter less as you get older and really stop meaning anything at like, 30-40. Before 30 I’d say 5 years is cool, and like 2-3 TOPS if you’re young like 18-20. I am a 22 year old guy in last year of college and I like a girl in my college who is 19 now and is in 1st year now about to be in 2nd year soon so we are only 3 years apart in age. We get along really well and have plenty of things in common to talk about and pretty much feel like peers. The average age gap is 2.5 years. That should tell you something about women's preference in age gap. Once they're 18 (maybe even 17) they should be able to date anyone they want who is older than them. I started dating my last girlfriend when she was 19 when I was almost 37. When I was 53 18 year old was very sexually attracted to me. I know a couple who got married when he was 17 and she was 70 and they are still happily married 8 years later. Nothing wrong with age gaps between adults.

I would point out that most of them time it wont work out and the guy is creepy, at least in the west. in Asia and Africa it is common and it is not creepy because he is there for marriage, and 10 years later, she is 26 and he is 40 and they have two kids, no one will even bat an eye at them.

Sure it is more common if there is an age gap, but it is not always the case. Back in the day it was super common. Though I think at 16 both sexes were a lot more mature back then and also there would be no way that she would marry that guy unless he was vetted by the family first and in the west we really don't do that anymore.
