I was 29 and she was 48. To this day, she is the best woman I’ve ever had the pleasure of being in a relationship with. She truly made me feel loved, respected, and appreciated. Just an all around amazing woman. Things didn’t work out and it was ALL my fault. Nowadays, she’s involved with a man in her age range but we remain somewhat close. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping for another chance with her one day. She changed me for the better.

I was 35, and my husband was 22 when we met. We have been married for 21 years. Unfortunately, we did not have children because of our 1st year of marriage, I had severe endometriosis and had to have an emergency hysterectomy. Not having children did affect our marriage, but we worked together through the acceptance of being childless and got dogs to be our children. I am now 60 and he is 46, we are still together.

At 30, I married my wife who was a 53 y.o. hard-bodied fox. After 20 years, she's still a fox and we're just as happy if not happier with each other. I get her and she gets me. For a years I felt insecure in public and even avoided my family, but I no longer care what people may think, if they think anything at all. If older men can marry younger women, why not the reverse? I should also state for the record, I'm also the "breadwinner," so I didn't marry her for money.

      Ben Franklin agrees.
Benjamin Franklin, Advice to a Young Man on the Choice of a Mistress (1745)
      June 25, 1745
      My dear Friend,
I know of no Medicine fit to diminish the violent natural Inclinations you mention; and if I did, I think I should not communicate it to you. Marriage is the proper Remedy. It is the most natural State of Man, and therefore the State in which you are most likely to find solid Happiness. Your Reasons against entering into it at present, appear to me not well-founded. The circumstantial Advantages you have in View by postponing it, are not only uncertain, but they are small in comparison with that of the Thing itself, the being married and settled. It is the Man and Woman united that make the compleat human Being. Separate, she wants his Force of Body and Strength of Reason; he, her Softness, Sensibility and acute Discernment. Together they are more likely to succeed in the World. A single Man has not nearly the Value he would have in that State of Union. He is an incomplete Animal. He resembles the odd Half of a Pair of Scissars. If you get a prudent healthy Wife, your Industry in your Profession, with her good Economy, will be a Fortune sufficient.
But if you will not take this Counsel, and persist in thinking a Commerce with the Sex inevitable, then I repeat my former Advice, that in all your Amours you should prefer old Women to young ones. You call this a Paradox, and demand my Reasons. They are these:
      i. Because as they have more Knowledge of the World and their Minds are better stor'd with Observations, their Conversation is more improving and more lastingly agreable.
      2. Because when Women cease to be handsome, they study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Diminution of Beauty by an Augmentation of Utility. They learn to do a 1000 Services small and great, and are the most tender and useful of all Friends when you are sick. Thus they continue amiable. And hence there is hardly such a thing to be found as an old Woman who is not a good Woman.
      3. Because there is no hazard of Children, which irregularly produc'd may be attended with much Inconvenience.
      4. Because thro' more Experience, they are more prudent and discreet in conducting an Intrigue to prevent Suspicion. The Commerce with them is therefore safer with regard to your Reputation. And with regard to theirs, if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclin'd to excuse an old Woman who would kindly take care of a young Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.
      5. Because in every Animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: The Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding2 only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. And as in the dark all Cats are grey, the Pleasure of corporal Enjoyment with an old Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior, every Knack being by Practice capable of Improvement.
      6. Because the Sin is less. The debauching a Virgin may be her Ruin, and make her for Life unhappy.
      7. Because the Compunction is less. The having made a young Girl miserable may give you frequent bitter Reflections; none of which can attend the making an old Woman happy.
8thly and Lastly They are so grateful!!
Thus much for my Paradox. But still I advise you to marry directly; being sincerely Your affectionate Friend.

@brokenbones1632 - She is reluctant to marry you because of the "age difference". This is very general. You have to address it with precision. What bothers her about the age difference: 1- poeple judging you, the eyes of poeple on you. When you dont fit into the box, people think they have the right and give themselves the power of making you unhappy by being judgmental.
2- She is afraid you will have an old appearance when she will still look young and having an husband looking old will ambarassed her.
3- She is afraid you will be too old to raise your children, have less energy, and less patience.
4- She is concerned about her family approval.
5- Maybe feels too young to make a life commitment.
      4- or something else.
You have address the reason behind her decision.

You are spot on with the age bracket! When I met my husband he was 24, and I was 42 - we will be married 14 years in Feb.!!!
Let me add that I had hoped to find a man in my own age bracket after a failed previous marriage.
The ones that were my age and single- let's just say there were many reasons they were still single, and it began to feel like all of the good guys in my age range were already taken.
When I met my husband he had just finished his second tour in Iraq, and I had no intentions of being more than friends.
It did not seem realistic to be more than friends, and I think this is where dynamics play a part with big age gaps.
He did not want biological kids- and I did not want to have more kids.
Fighting combat in war makes you mature fast , so he did not act like most men do at 24.
Neither of us were financially secure when we met so there were no feelings of being used for money.
Like all couples we have had conflicts along the way, but none of them were caused or attributed by our age gap.
Thank you for offering an objective view on this, it is refreshing not to be judged unfavorably!

@@tamikascales888 Same ages we started !!!
Running his own business shows that he understands responsibility, that’s a good sign, and only the two of you can know how well the dynamics line up.
To have, or not have kids, is the larger consideration for age gap couples, in my opinion and if you are both on the same page with that, there is no reason this union cannot evolve into a long-term, happy relationship.
If you are young at heart, by a decade, and he is mature by a decade, there is no age gap at all anymore!
It’s nice to hear from others who are on the same journey and I wish you both continued happiness and all good things in your lives together.

Now, I'm in my early 30s, but without a single big lifetime achievement under my belt (when I was about to take off, the pandemic kicked my ass so hard that I'm still picking up the pieces to this day). In practical terms, it means that my sexual market value hasn't really changed since I was 18. But, unlike my 18 self, my sex drive has plummeted, my gray hair is starting to pop up and get noticeable from a short distance, and I'm far less optimistic about life, society, and relationships (especially romantic ones). Despite all that, I still refuse to lower my standards. I still refuse to date low-quality women. I still refuse to stick my jimmy in some old dry-ass pu$sy. I'm already fine driving a 1994 Toyota with faded body panels, bald tires, and 200k miles on it, which means that I don't need more old, depreciated crap in my life. Having that said, I'm seriously flirting with the idea of staying alone until the end if I fail to improve my current situation.

The reason for this type of relationship is that men on the emotional side seek stability and trust. We suffer trauma and damage since our mothers' wombs. Only maturity and experience can make us resolve or learn to deal with it. Many will not make it. Many will. The young, romantic man is looking for a more mature woman who has achieved this. It's not just a matter of age. It's his innermost yearning, as women have an easier time with emotional intelligence, especially when they're truly mature.

I have read a bunch on these types of relationships. Usually, the reason for separation is the 'children' issue. But usually, these relationships work out. And I'm not talking about young men in their 20s who just want a sex partner so they can 'learn'. I'm referring to adults who are both financially secure, emotionally intelligent, mature. Unfortunately, nature has been cruel to women as far as how long they are found to be physically attractive to men, then there is also the fact that they stop ovulating around their 40s or 50s, or at the very least have significantly increased chances of having a child with issues if they still can ovulate, while men can stay fertile well into old age, though with diminished "seed" quality.
Most guys probably don't think consciously about having kids with the women they sleep with, but their instincts will always take that into consideration, and our instincts have more control over what we do or don't like than most people seem to realize.

@@mitchellmartinsky2299 No; But in the end it doesn’t matter. I have friends today who are well into their 20’s who dated girls who are 15. Age gaps like that are much more common than most are aware. I only wish I was as strong and mature back then as I am now, I’d be in a happy and stable relationship and not trying to date the cesspool of girls we have now. The older truly can make younger ones grow a conscience and be better, just as Brenda did for me. It’s thanks to her that I’ve never truly fell into a dark place. They would treat me like I was super special. They don't have the hang-ups about money, having children, or are needy. Makes things so much more pleasant. Men keep dogging older women as unwanted. Men make things so much about sex. Let me tell you men are also unwanted when they are old. We don't want to deal with someone that may not be functional in the male way.
