- My new ride, 2018 Ranger Z521c with the new Mercury 4 Stroke 250 Pro XS. Big shout out to Cliff & Josh Brown and the entire staff at Texas Boat World in Harker Heights. They got me a great deal, delivered the boat literally the first day these could be delivered, and have been great to work with throughout the entire process. Really fun that they were wanting to see and play with this new motor as much as I was!

Very clean looking rig. I love the throaty 4 stroke sound - it seems so out of place on a bass boat, lol. BTW, it's your fault! .....you made me do it. A new Ultrex 112 with 52" shaft is on the way to my boat barn......
Beautiful boat. I'm super excited about the new motor. Thanks for posting this no BS vid with sound clips.....enjoy your new rig!
WOW! absolutely a beautiful boat Ken...(OMG 73mph). Congratulations, be safe and enjoy.
Nice review Ken, nice to hear the positive comments on the new V8 Pro XS!
Yep, definitely gonna have this on the back of my next boat! Great vid
Beautiful Ken! Congrats on the new rig and looking forward to seeing how the new Merc does.
Absolutely hilarious when the dog jumped in the water water and right after that you were talking about the bottom area not having carpet because you dion’t like that area wet then the lays down wet on your deck carpet and slides on it. Had me rolling on the floor laughing. Lol.
Yeah, first thing she’s ever done on cue..:she’s a nut job at 11 mos
Congrats on the new boat, looks great. Awesome motor.
You're set. Go git em and enjoy it.
Beautiful boat! Gotta love rangers! I just got a new to me 2007 Z20 and man I’m am super impressed with the build quality. Love the color package you picked also
Man that thing looks great on the water! Enjoy the RIG! And amazing Video!
Beautiful boat. Awesome hole shot.
Congratulations Mr Ken! That’s one pretty boat. That motor should treat you right for years to come! Enjoy your videos. From Gonzales Louisiana, safe travels.
Sweet looking ride!
Love the ProXS!
Hell yeah!
First fire it sounds like an Indy car firing up, very sweet.
Very nice Ken! If I see you on Big Sam I'll give you a wave! The Ultrex and a couple Helix Birds are next on my list for our RT188.
Beautiful boat, motor, troller, and dog!
Thanks!
Awesome boat, awesome dog. Great life
Amen brother
Nice rig!
Special "K" that's big pimpin' right there.
Beautiful boat. Love the dog. I used to fish Toledo Bend out of Many, LA, back it the 70s. Never made it to Rayburn though.
WHAT...man you gotta fix that! Rated #1 bass fishing lake in the country, come on Jay
@@KenSmithFishing One day!
Great video! Love that sound of the v8. Was just informed my boat is coming with it and was skeptical about it until i saw your video.
Luke, embrace your dark side
What boat?
Triton but it actually came with the optimax
You are one lucky SOB !
So you are saying I didn’t get this due to my rugged good looks and high intellect????
Awesome I'm glad the pro xs 4 stroke sounds mean. That's the one thing I don't like about other 4 strokes. I want to hear that motor roar!
How's the motor running after these couple years?
Ken I see you have the old style stick/V-block motor toter. It's my understanding the existing Pro XS Motormate will not work on these new engines?
Yes that’s correct, and the old style one lasted less than a week!
Curious if i go in to order a new 520L will they automatically go with the new 4 stroke? Ranger and all the other manufactures do not have anything on the new 4 strokes yet. Part of me thinks getting the last run of the optimax pro xs could be a good option in the long run. But on the other hand i would really like to have this option when i go in to place my order.
My understanding is 2 stroke is not an option from the factory anymore. Some dealers still have 2 stroke in stock. I know cliff ordered 3 boats when he ordered mine and I think he has 1 with a 2 stroke left.
Hey what hydraulic steering set up are you using? Thanks
Eric I’m not sure, I’ll look this weekend and let you know
How mach is it?
Ken what did you ever settle on for a prop?
At the moment I’m still running the 3 blade 23p fury. I think I’ll settle on the 24, just haven’t spent the $$ to get one yet
Did you get the new Mercury Active Trim also?
I did not
If you don't mind me asking, what was the cost for that setup ? I'm in the market but afraid Ranger maybe out of my reach, thanks, and very nice
According to what options, I added console, flooring, cover, pretty well loaded and it was in the low 70’s, that was with Lowrance Carbon 12 & 9
Get your boat set up and you and your buddy line them up with video.
Nice boat, You can go 73mph but you get yelled at if you step too hard you might scare the fish away.
Did the carpet in bottom come from ranger?
Yes, it’s actually not carpet it’s called a traction pad. It’s a $244 upgrade on the c boats. And to answer your next question I tried to find out who makes it to put it in aftermarket in my last boat and couldn’t find out who makes it😀
The new Ultrex is loud at least I think so I switched back to the Fortrex. nice rig tho boat is killer !!
Wondering if you had a bad prop?
I don't think so, Nope just I find when it's in spot lock the sound of the electronic unit moving. Not saying it's not worth getting that Ultrex bec obv it has a lot of advantages as well.
Walleye fishing would be excellent for that unit in 20 -30 feet of water holding on spot.
I love the new pro XS V8 I wish I had one of them lol STILL RUNNING A 2017 pRO XS
Speed ?
I enjoyed the video. Thank you. I’ve got an honest question, please don’t take it negatively. Why do you need to try out several prop-pitches - 23,24,25, etc. Can’t you expect the dealer and manufacturers to KNOW what is best for a brand new tournament bass boat? Is prop testing a typical thing I should expect when I buy a new bass boat?
No that’s a great question, remember Ranger is shipping these all over the country and they have NO idea how you load the boat, how big you and your partner are. So they are shipping w best all around, but perfect prop is driven by factors they don’t have. If you have a good dealer, like Texas Boat World, as long as you don’t ding up prop they should let you swap them out With little or no cost, once you figure out prop you want to run. Again, great question
Ken Smith the 2 strokes ran fastest with a 25 p the hole shot was better on the 24 I think. But the 25 p was a good all around prop
I ran a 25p on my last boat but it was a z520c, smaller rig, it had great hole shot and top end in mid to hi 60’s. Dickys new 521c with 18 2 stroke is topping out right at 68 mph tournament loaded with a good hole shot and it came w a 24p. He tried a 25.5 bravo yesterday and didn’t see a diff, but I’m thinking his will turn 25p fury so we’ll probably try that soon.
Ken Smith my dads demo last year was a 17 with a 25 p it did 77 mph with 1/4 tank fuel
It was a z520c with 2 power poles
No break in needed ??? Great rig !!! wow
First 10 hours vary speed no more than 1 minute WOT
Was this built at the tracker facility?
Say huh?
Ken Smith I've been hearing dock talk that Ranger went back on their word about where the boats r being built after the BPS merger..
Or should I say white river marine group. They own a few brands of bass boats..
No idea...picked it up in Harker Heights!😁
Ken Smith . U can look on the title paperwork for those details.
Still, one awesome rig!!
What’s the msrp on it?
You know I don’t know the breakout of boat motor trailer electronics etc, but at a high level I understand 4 stroke is only $400-600 more than 2 stroke was/is
Is a gas pedal n that rig???
Well heck yes
73mph with only 2 hours on it? Is there no break-in period?
Wolf the Mandalorian With his money who cares about break-in he’ll just buy another one
Nothing runs like a Ranger
RK Harm24 Except a Skeeter, Bullet, Allison, Bass Cat, Gambler, Phoenix, Legend, .........
LOLOLOL
RK Harm24 The Rangers are comfortable and have a nice layout though.
In past years they tended to be a heavier boat than those you mentioned. The weight while making them a little slower also added to the smoother and stable ride. Many years ago I saw a Skeeter ?? hull model, wide and short in length, rated for 150hp max. He had mounted the new then Johnson 235 on it. FAST but unstable.
Is 73 fast for that hull?
Most of these boats, tournament loaded, meaning 2 fat guys, 50 gallons of fuels, live wells full are 67-69 this time of year, 69-71 when temps under 45. Yeah yeah guys say they have 75 mph boats, other than the skinny basscat boats (not there new series) and a few of the go fast boats nobody runs by us. Sorry for a little bit of a diatribe there, I can run any boat I want, Ranger does not give me a discount. So this year I looked at a lot of them, and they all have some plus’s and some minuses. Yep I can go faster in a Trinton, but I need 500 yards to get on pad, or I could fly in a Bullet, or Bassscat, but they are tippy to fish in, and forget getting in big rough water. At one time Rangers were way more expensive, not anymore, any of the premium boats loaded out are the same cost, so its #1 fishability, I fish way more than I run around, so how does the boat feel fishing. #2 how is it in rough water, I put my last boat a 520, or my new one, a 521 against ANY boat, because as we all know it’s rough out 10x more often than its glass smooth. #3, how well are they built, no more need be said. #4 how hard are they to resell and are there guys out there that only want that brand, or have always wanted that brand..again, Ranger. Last is speed, so if my boat is within 2-5 mph of the other boats on those few slick calm days...well, I bought another Ranger didn’t i!
I chose my hull because of it's fishability and storage. It's not as fast, but like you said we fish more than we run. I put a ton of miles on my trolling motor LOL
Eventually they will all go to 4 stroke
Nice motor however I'm wondering why they could not keep the admissions down where they could still build a 2 stroke evidently the EPA was on them about that so they had to go to a four stroke and in order to get the power out of the block not only did they go to a four stroke but they had to go to a V8 8 cylinders that makes me scratch my head because I know it's going to come out on the consumers in the long run
Sorry it said at Mission is supposed to be emissions but again in the long run I think it would cost us consumers more and money for as far as purchasing and if they ever were to have to have to do a repair you talk about repairing 8 cylinders instead of 6 so ask for me I keep banging my sex because I'm clocking 74 miles an hour with low emissions so I don't have to run a V8 engine in order to get those kind of speeds
They can charge more money for the 4 strokes, more parts to fail so they will sell you more parts down the road, or push the extended warranty to try and get out of that, plus more maintenance for the dealers. If Mercury needs a 4.6l V8 to get 225, 250 and 300 naturally aspirated horsepower then they are doing something wrong. Other manufacturers of 4 strokes can easily get that power and more out of less displacement and less cylinders. Maybe they did it just for marketing, which may work considering the average gullible consumer. I'll give the outboard manufacturers props, they got the weight down on 4 strokes. Just imagine what they could do with 2 strokes if they have not pretty much abandoned the 2 stroke tech 15 -20 years ago and began the phase out. The consumer loses again.
What size jackplate?
She’s dangling from a 10” atlas hydraulic
Thanks for the info. Please let us know how the 25 Fury and other props do.
A 27 Tempest might work well also with all that torque. You may even want to let Mark Croxton balance and blueprint it to tweak it. Just a thought.
You were going so fast I could see your hairline recede.
Ouch
Since you are from Richardson, NOW IF You were from Garland.....LOLOL
Awesome boat, ugly motor.
What??? I think it’s crazy cool
