- Today were taking a break to go wheeling with my dad at sand hollow while he tests out his newly built rear suspension on the Banana. After that we take the long way back to the shop using the infamous Arizona Strip that takes us nearly 7 hours and over 130 miles of dirt roads to get back to the shop.

For goodness sakes. Go to harbor freight and get the lug nut socket kit, breaker bar, and a short extension. Put them in the rig. Once the loosen like that the rim, studs, and nuts should be replaced. Keep it safe.
@@DerekL2005 except Matt actually carries a tire iron when he has to change a tire. He may not bring a spare tire but atleast iv never seen Matt tighten a tire with a CRESCENT wrench.
Yea not sure how you would go anywhere without a tire iron or lug wrench. It’s in every car from the factory for a reason. I don’t go on highway or anywhere without lug wrenches
Sorry Rudy I gotta agree with those who can't believe you would leave home so ill prepared.
Keep us in the loop for the mystery of the loosening lugnuts. We wait with baited breath!
@@anotherdave5107 the damage was 1 loose and none torqued. It will wallow out the aluminum rim hint the shavings. The lug holes are rounded out. The remaining studs get extra stress on the threads. Replace nuts studs and rim. The rim is not even safe as a spare.
Rudy that structure is an old bunk house. They used them on cattle drives to get out of bad weather and hold up until the storm passed. God bless
hey, Rudy! ... watch out for that rut/snake/fan/lug nut/shade/collapsing building!
(Rudy) ... "No worries! I have an adjustable wrench, zip ties, my dog and my girlfriend!"
thanks for taking us along for the ride! great adventure.
You forgot to add to Rudy's comment: "What could go wrong?"
The pocket knife was also a key tool in this episode.
lol
not to mention a pocket knife. heh
...so hey let's play with that rattle snake! Hope you at least had cell service out there🤣🤣🤣 Fun video though
Rudy & Janelle: so awesome you get to be on this journey together...and staying cool during stress times or could be...thank you for taking us with you.
LOL 👍
always bring tools my dude. Tekton makes a killer set for not much. I keep it in my TJ all the time.
Even I as a city dweller have a toolbox with most tools to do close to everything in my sedan.
Better have and not need than need and not have!
@@sthenzel The back of van is a little tool shop
I always carry 70 pounds of tools and spare parts for trails. Without that I'd be scarrred😆
What a great video: docile rattlesnake, old settlements, nobody else around, awesome eroded landscape. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for releasing that beautiful snake, he has a right to live in a beautiful area too.
I’m in Vegas. Not sure if that is Mojave Green territory, but that could have been insanely deadly. They have neurotoxic venom, unlike other rattlesnakes. If you don’t know the difference, don’t play with death. Wrong anti venom in the hospital, and you still die. That was a little snake with mature rattle, so could have been a green💀
Janelle rocks. Rattle, rattle, what dould it be? A snake, loose radiator fan, wheel lug nuts? Reminder for trail pre-checks, tools, spares. Beautiful sun shade.
Great video Rudy. I admire Janelle's patience.
Like father like son! Thats why we watch. Thanks for entertaining us!
To be fair Rudy you have a used 4.0 and the banana has a golen stroker.
I was going to say the same thing. 😅
I get it Rudy, I used to have an aversion to asphalt, too. 3 days in the backcountry of Canyonlands back in the 80's, after coming up out of Bobby's Hole, I was not thrilled with the fact that we had to drive on asphalt again. And I sure do miss exploring in the deserts. Was so fun to come upon old dwellings and cemeteries in southern Arizona on the backroads in our '77 CJ7. We had that jeep for 33 years. Sure do miss those days!
go rent a jeep and go on adventure you're never too old
Only have one word for this kind of video: MORE!
Good morning I am proud of Janelle she did really well driving up that obstacle in my opinion you should let her drive more often.
This video definitely proves why you and Hollie should do the Off road adventure because you showed how you can adapt with with what you have.
Rudy my man! Next time you pick up a rattlesnake consider how far you are from help. I was just reading two separate stories the other day of two young healthy men that got bit by rattlesnakes. They both got to the hospital within 20 minutes and they both died. That doesn’t always happen but being as far out as you are definitely increases the chances for a bad ending.
My feelings exactly. Immaturity
@@jimepperson2075 Life is full of risks. If it's something you really want to do, and the opportunity is rare, sometimes you have to take it. He was pretty careful overall. 1 in 600 bites result in death, and 1/3 of bites don't even inject venom....so coupled with being careful not to get bitten - this is probably less dangerous than loos lug nuts :)
Rudy can rebuild the world with an adjustable wrench. It's all he needs! Great video! You 2 are building great memories! Thanks for taking us along!
Till it falls apart 1 mile down the road! 🤕
It's still early in the season and your little snakey friend was likely getting some sun to warm up. In another month your encounter may have been a little more exciting! Glad it all turned out OK all around though!
I have done some admittedly sketchy things in my time... but one of them has never been going on an off road adventure without a tire iron. That's pretty epic TBH. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. I have picked up a few rattlesnakes but only Massasauga, hope I spelled that right. Don't know what breed that was but he was a lot less angry about being picked up than any I've ever handled. Good job, I say that because not getting bit makes it so.
I think the mechanic comment is hilarious considering you only had a 20 inch knuckle buster with you to tighten up lug nuts and zip ties is every man best friend great vidg
Rudy carry a jack to tighten the lugs with wheel unloaded because you may have (probably did) stripped the threads. but looks like you had a good adventure. ✌ respect.
6 years ago I running my garbage route and stopped and picked up a baby timber rattle snake and moved it out of the road my helpers said I was crazy great video keep up the good work God bless from GA
The snake scene was crazy! That was the most chill rattle snake I've ever seen in my life. Growing up in Lake Elsinore in the 70's we would kill 8 footers with a shovel every day. But the little ones were the ones that gotcha!!
What a great drive. Thank you for posting, I miss Utah/Arizona with all the trails and watching these videos is my fix.
Sincerely,
"Stuck-in-Northeast"
Need more trail videos with your two 👍🏼 God Bless and see ya on the next one
I like that even with all the problems youre still having a good time and fun adventure
He's pretty secure in the knowledge that even if his car turned to dust around him he'd be able to call for help.
Not on the Arizona strip, there is no cellphone service for miles
@@Rudysadventureanddesignreal then... you told people where you were going and roughly how long you expected to be?
Wonder how much a satellite phone would cost, seems like it would come in handy.
@@dljones61 I was wondering about radio, I know the MORR team have been investing in radios recently, but I don't think the kind they've been getting has the range to be helpful. A satellite phone can be around the cost of a regular cell phone, it would probably feel like a waste of money until you actually need it. Depends how often you go out into the boonies
Rudy, I was having issues with my fuel system on my Dodge Diesel, so I went to Harbor Freight and got me a tool kit. It is in a flat molded plastic case, and it has a little bit of everything, and the cost was under $40. A plus too that tool kit, is, that it does not rattle. I always go with the adage, "It is always better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it."
I am sure that you will add something in the way of tools to your Rudicon. Hind sight is always 20/20. I am glad that you and Jenelle found each other, and that she likes to do what you like to do.
Nice video Rudy. By the way, I am that guy with the off-road T Bucket that you showed how to find Paul.
I love this video. Glad you let the snake go and that you had a safe experience with it; good job.
Should have chopped its head off
I didn’t know you had a channel! Just binging on your dads and Paul’s and this video came up! This is great! Anyone else have their own??
The lug bolt was shown missing at 7:15. As a teen I used to catch all types of snakes for fun. That rattler appeared to have 11 rattles and button - it’s an old fellow. I keep a tool kit in all 3 vehicles even though I live in the suburbs and rarely get off road or need the tools.
Good looking Great Basin Rattler.
I don't subscribe and follow much anyone but how you interacted with local wildlife, got my respect. Hell of an ambassador for wheelers and video proof that we aren't out trying to destroy wildlife and their habitat.
Also the fact you turned around instead of cutting a "new road" on that wash out.
Awesome video, there is a lot to be said about taking the back roads. Always an adventure. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
replace all the studs with harder studs for sure. If one broke the others are not far behind. Carry you a 4 way at least and some extra lug nuts. The first road hole you had to back out if prob stressed the studs. Once stressed they will continue to flex and stretch.
As an Aussie, I really appreciate seeing maps of where you guys are at.
As European😄 me too😄
10:46 I’ve never seen a grown man with a beard get a whooping by his momma, so make sure you film it when you’re mom finds out about the rattlesnake adventure.
🤪🤣😂
what a rad trip!! the tech issues were just minor hiccups for you Rudy! So rad you got to hold that snake. Thank you for letting it go safely.
We've rebuilt quite a few old barns falling over like that. It's super easy. You can just winch it back up straight or push it with a forklift, brace things up and replace a few boards here and there and get it structurally solid again; and then we typically put new sheet metal all on the outside and roof and then it's like a new building. And you would never know that it was almost falling over into a pile of splinters.
That top is great 😂 I mean great especially if no ac or ac goes out or like my truck your doing anything besides normal driving the ac makes the old 7.3 idi run hot. Or I should say boat anchor run hot 😂😂😂
Thanks for the non intrusive Ad I actually watched it cause it felt like part of the video, not a jump cut to you back at your shop talking about a sponsor. I wish I could give a extra like just for that. It doesn't go unnoticed.
Janelle did a great job on the rock crawling, need to let her do more of that.
With your fab skills, I'll bet you could create a retractable or rollup shade that mounts on a rigs top. That would be pretty cool!! Thanks for taking us along on your adventures!
Use a window round roller shad /w that springy tingy and mount the shelf liner to it .
You are a brave soul Rudy... I would love to photograph the snakes.. but from a safe distance 🙂
Not lost
Just Exploring Right Rudy
Pleased you went that way great views and stiil on four wheels thanks
Just like your dad, never get riled up, just goes with the flow. But not even having a lug wrench or spare impact!! Vehicle maintenance Rudy!
That was great, you always come across as very authentic.
I've been out to Mt Trumbull Schoolhouse with TrailRecon. We continued south to the Bar 10 Ranch and on down to Whitmore Point to overlook the Colorado River.
D Backs are Excellent for Rodent control .Thanks for sharing .
Love your videos but would really really like to see something on your channel get completed... Your brothers truck, the Rudycon, The snow tracks....
diamond back ,, a older one what else is on ur bucket list Rudy ??? i THINK that ALL of ur fans would enjoy hearing about them in detail😊
Wow on the snake wrangling Rudy respect!
At least you had a Cresent Wrench
Very scenic and entertaining video. I am going to watch you more and review your old videos. I spent my summers up in SKYHAVEN down from Strawberry Ridge.
I like the sun screen. Looks like it works good!
Garmin InReach Mini is relatively cheap, and so is the monthly subscription. Connects to your phone and lets you text from anywhere in the world, and can be an emergency SOS. Well worth carrying, especially if you're going to be messing with rattle snakes while miles outside cellphone range.
Really cool seeing old structures in the middle of nowhere
Hello and thumbs UP!!
Thanks for showing us the roadside attractions of Utah. Including Rudy's Reptile Ranch and the Crescent brand multi-tool lug wrench!
I bought one of those sunshades made for a JK and it has worked out very well for me on my hybrid caged XJ
I got rattle snake blood on me once when someone killed one to eat. It was hung up to be skinned but it was still moving and splattered blood all over us! You did good picking it up.
Rudy, you and Janelle are fun to watch! Thank you for sharing :)
Nice. Janelle is really getting more comfortable with you always choosing the roughest way to get things done. Enjoyed watching. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Reminded me of the channel Camo Adventures. I love exploring old desert buildings and structures and trying to figure out their purpose. I hate seeing them vandalized.
YAY!
4th on both ! YAY!!
@@richardthomas1743 picky me, now I'm gonna whine about not being 7th!
@@JanelleVocate-Ames LOL , you are always 1st and 7th in my book 👍. Save a spot for me on MORR , I wont be able to see that one until later today. LOL
@@richardthomas1743 will do ,sweetie!
You guys make me smile
I had a wild caught Western diamond back rattlesnake as a pet for a lil while. One night I decided to reach in the tank and scoop him up. He S-ed up like he was going to strike. He didn't. And he was slithering through my hands. It was wild.
I lost a rear wheel going down a big mountain in Vermont when my lug nuts came off. I had just replaced rear axle shafts and pressed in studs and I think the studs weren’t pressed all the way and worked loose during a day of wheeling. The 33 went about 1000yards down the hill and through the woods. Took about 15 minutes to find it lol
Brilliant to watch loads of fun
Just an enjoyable day wandering the back roads! But Dude, put a proper lug wrench in that Jeep!
At 7:13 missing lug can be seen...you are in touch with the machine, because you hear and feel anything that is not right. It is not being paranoid, but in tune.
Not much going on. Nice. Thanks for taking us along.
😃🚙
I'm impressed Rudy. One of my life goals also!!
You had no way of knowing how bad that dirt road was going to be.... it did look impassable and you wisely chose not to go out into the grazing area.... all is well.... I am so amazed that your transmissions and torque converters last even 5 minutes with the loads ... only proves they are well built....
It's the only jeep model with a toyota transmission that's why lol.
Damn Rudy…..That steering wheel is driving me nuts….lol…Please please re-adjust it…lol. Love your videos.
Thank you for sharing your contact with us I truly appreciate it I watch every one of your videos I try to like and comment on each of them I will be looking forward to your next video
That was a cool video Rudy...and Janelle rocks, she is a good-natured, fun, bright-spot in your channel's videos (and she does good camera work too).
That was cool.....it's not an adventure if you eliminate all the risks....and you're not an adventurer if you can't rise to the occasion. Loved it...and the OnX overview was helpful.
If only you knew someone who does off road recovery...
But that guy runs out of gas pretty regularly
It sure seems like he didn’t need any recovery to me. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

Yeah, that's too far out, Matt can't reach out so far.. 😂
livin the dream.. absolutely like your style sir. as a fellow ginger xj owner 👍
That's cool seeing you play with the rattler. A little stupid, but cool. I can't say I've never been stupid and picked up one... Or several. 😂
😊there's only two things to watch out for on a rattler...the left fang and the right one...😃
Loved the rattle snake! I caught one a few years back I understand the rush it's crazy 😂 dumb but fun and like you said not suggested. Y'all have a good time keep up the content 🤙🏻
Always, ALWAYS carry a battery impact gun with you. It's very handy for loose lug nuts! Not to mention many other uses
It is the AZ Strip which caused me to carry everything I needed to change the tire, extra fuel, and coolant/oil It is also why I ended up with a kicker on my SB. Not that that trip (which I have done) was anywhere near radio range 15 years ago.
I call only search and rescue once!
Make sure ya turn in that back road so they can fix it before someone dies on it!!! Love your videos
I love me some bostons to had them since i was 16 nearly 50 now no better friend in the world
I cannot believe you don't carry one of the most essential tools in your vehicle, a LUG wrench especially off road or anytime. Come on Rudy. I know your old man taught you better. WOW. At least you are carrying the most essential tool every man needs, A Beautiful babe!!!
You know it’s a Jeep day when your using a thumb wrench to tighten lug nuts 😂
Yeah, I picked up a live rattlesnake when I was a teenager, about 17. Caught it the same way Rudy did. But mine was MAD. Mouth wide open, fangs hanging down, venom dripping off. Rattles buzzing like crazy. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Anyway, guess I have bragging rights too. 😂 Great little adventure Rudy, enjoyed the desert scenery. 👍
The Rudicon could be the Bananas stunt double. The snake wants a belly rub. Nice having Janelle try some rock climbing, she's a natural.
I used to love just going for the adventure when I lived in hurricane .so thank you for taking us on that trip 😊
That happened to me once. My lugs got loose and a wheel stud broke off. I started using thread locker on my lug nuts. Hasn't happened since.
Hey Rudy. I call those things nope sticks.
Experience is a sometimes frustrating teacher. When you can, when lug nuts get loose, need to get the wheel off the ground, if you can't just move the truck a few feet retighten, then the same thing over again several times as the lugs have to get realigned. I know you figured it out, good job getting it home without making a call. 😁
Great adventure, thanks for taking ud along.
Cars and trucks used to have left hand thread on the drivers side wheels so they would not come loose. Fun fact bicycles still do on the crank..
That was fun. Thanks
During the “race,” you forgot that your dad also has a 4.6 stroker instead of the stock 4.0l
Quality production.
Love it! Unless you grew up in these desert states its hard to understand why you feel compelled to follow dirt roads. You just do! Its irresistible ...
Banana also has a stroked I6 pushing most likely an extra 100hp over your I6
You’re right I forgot to mention that.
Awesome video. Beautiful views. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God bless.
We were always told not to go out into the desert alone, always take someone with or have a spot radio!
Ah Rudy, what an adventure
