Hey Rudi, connect your pressure switch to the positive on the airpump. if its on the negative side, the pump may still be grounding not allowing it to shut off. I've run into that issue myself.
In your air system it seems that you should have a small accumulator tank w the pressure switch mounted to the tank. The compressor actually bleeds pressure off when it shuts off so that it can start again with little or no head pressure... also a check valve between compressor and tank...
Good Morning Rudy it was a nice surprise to see the Fab Rats crew as part of this video. Having Paul there for the Dutchman was a very smart choice since he has the experience.
A lot of pucker moments on that one!!! Good to have Paul around he’s calm under pressure!! Glad to see everyone made it safe! Ben was gonna climb that one or flip it trying! 😂 Again Paul jumps on the bumper and calmly jumps up and down while Ben is raising the front end! 😂
Have you checked to make sure you don't have a leak that prevents the system from coming up to full pressure? Its an easy thing to do. Put a dedicated pressure gauge between the pressure transducer and the system. You will be able to measure the pressure you achieved and see if it holds.
Feel like this should be 1 or 2 on the list when compressor dont shut off. Either the switch is broken or you dont get enough preassure to activate it...
Looked like a great day. Everything that happened is what you can expect when off-roading hard like that...well, maybe not the fire. I like the way Paul handled the fire situation, as well as the other smaller mishaps during the ride. He was calm and knew exactly what needed to be done to keep people going and having a safe time out there.
Wow, I can’t believe anyone thinks this is a Trail! Looks like really rough going.. You definitely had all the right Buds with you to get everyone thru it. Pretty Serious Wheeling for sure. Stay Safe and enjoy your great Sport...
put an arb air compressor in to run the lockers. they make a compact one just to run air lockers. relegate the yukon ones to backup or airing up as they aren't hitting the psi needed to shutoff.
Had the same problem on my Nissan air lockers. Those pumps leak by the piston all the time. You really need a small air receiver after the pump and a non return valve between it and the pump. Take the air for the locker from the tank. ATB & regards from the UK.
I always enjoy watching you and the Fab Rats crew together. You guys are an effective team out on the trails. Laughed out loud at the mini bike at the end. I am currently waiting for my mini bike to be delivered. My nephew custom builds them and mine has been completed and is on its way. Haven't been on one in a long time, hopefully it'll all come back to me like... riding a bike. I'll see myself out...
Yikes when Ben started going over toward the end the one dude almost took his hand off. He reached out to grab Ben’s passenger front wheel and and almost realized too late that the sucker was gonna start spinning. Phew 😅 Awesome video!
The locker pumps have to just be wired wrong. If you went through all that and you got the same outcome. You should have the power or ground (depends on the pressure switch or your preference) running through the pressure switch. When the predetermined pressure is reached it disconnects that circuit and the pump turns off.
I had pretty much the same thing happen to my TJ where the pressure line perfectly sprayed down the headers and immediately ignited. It took me a lil longer to get mine out and I barely had enough fire extinguisher
Rudy. Great call on having a fire extinguishers in the Jeep. Should remind every single person you know to check there fire extinguishers and make sure everyone has one and that there all good
That's the attitude to have in everything you do in life. See fire ( or a bad situation), deal with it calmly. Back up to the point you can assess. Assess and be confident that you can fix it. Fix it to get to up and running safely. Go on with life.
I had a few accidental fires when working on trucks. Saw an associate freeze trying to get the pin out of an extinguisher during a fire. You learn who you can depend on when the stuff hits the fan.
Been watching you for a long time. Your are talented and ambitious and should be able to take your craft to your greatest desires. Just a note on trouble shooting stuff that does not work. Make sure you use measuring devices for anything suspicious. A pressure gauge would have been a good tool on the air compressor for lockers issue, and it may be good to have the gauge on the dash so if something does not work, you immediately know where to start looking. Oil pressure in the trans is another gauge that one does not see very often, but it helps you know what is going on so you can fix issues before they become problems. Keep up the good work, Rudy. 😁
Rudy experienced the reason I use the screw together hoses as a patter for the hydraulic hose man to make me real hoses. Keep the screw together ones for extra hoses. Enjoyed watching. Keep up the good fight.
Dude Paul is straight ride or die when it comes to off-roading. He gets right in there regardless of the task, spotting, wrenching, wheeling, etc. He was straight up hanging off the front of Ben’s Jeep rocking it up and down with his entire body weight as Ben continued to try climbing. He’s a mad man!
You need to check you air pressure , the switch could be rated for a higher pressure than the pump makes or you have air leaks, and the pump can't reach shut off pressure.
AIR COMPRESSOR PROMBLEM- Hey Rudy, this is Keith from south western Pa. By trade, I'm a HVAC tech and Musician. I have a solution for you. Pressure switch- It should be normally closed (on) until it reaches desired pressure. Now with that said, 1. Bypass the pressure switch and wire it to the power (hot line) . So power from the battery to the pressure switch, out of the pressure switch to the compressor. Since the switch is N/C (Normally closed), the compressor will run. Then when it gets up to desired pressure the switch (if operating correctly) will open (off) thus cutting the power. Love all the gangs channels by the way, big time fan. You all rock, God bless you all.
Hey there, Rudy. The rudicon is still getting better! With all the wildfires happening up here in Alberta/British Columbia. Could you explain how important it is to have fiire extinguisher's, and knowledge of how to use. And just a reminder to examine your machines!? A bit of grass over a muffler is a shitty deal for a lot of people.
That looked like a lot of fun!! Glad you had some great people there with you!! I know Paul and Ben don't get too excited about little fires like that! LOL! They seem to have them almost daily. 🤣 You and all those with you seem to have a lot experience with trail repairs. That's a GOOD thing when you're out crawling. Great video Rudy!!
Quite the adventure on the Dutchman trail. Those are three very capable rigs im surprised you had to work around 2 obstacles there. Good thing your fire extinguisher was charged and close at hand .
2 years ago I started sucking out and replacing 1 gallon of ATF out the dipstick every oil change as I was finding that driving in 100deg heat was burning the ATF. Now what I pull out is always still red and my trans seems happy.
Well, the Dutchman trail proved to be tough. Don’t have to feel bad on the one steep wall, Paul didn’t make it too, lol Lucky your traveling with friends and capable mechanics. Ala in all, you made it home safely to fight another day, 🤙😎
Now this is worth watching!! Thanks Rudy for showing us all of it!! Even the OH SHIT moments!! That’s what we wanna see!! Not just all the glory moments but all the moments!!
Probably check the air lines on the locker setup. Could be leaking and maybe its not actually reaching the correct PSI to trigger the switch. You can put a pressure gauge in where the pressure switch goes and run it to see if its holding PSI
Proud of you for having a fire extinguisher with you as all off roaders should. I really thought the fire was going to be related to your air locker problem. Does anyone else's have a small reservoir tank, bigger compressor, check valve, is the compressor good or maybe a leak??On the dirt track we all used restrictor plates in place of a thermostat. You can buy them in packs of 3 different sizes. I'm thinking that I used the middle size the 5/8 or 3/4" one. If the water travels too fast thru the radiator it doesn't give it enough time for it to cool. I used rabbit wire a couple inches in front of the radiator and window screen against the cores to help protect it from rocks, small parts, etc and to help cut down on dust, bugs and small stuff that gets between the fins. If the track was muddy then I would spray the screen with spam cooking oil so a lot of the mud would fall off instead of sticking. One of those muddy nights just out of curiosity I didn't scrap what mud I could off at the track I scrapped it off at the shop and put it in buckets, it weighed 81 lbs and that was before a powerwash!
Why no gauge on the output? If you cannot measure it, you cannot troubleshoot it, all you can do is guess or replace parts constantly; use an oil-filled gauge to protect the pointer from fluctuations. BTW, a DC motor will arc across the contacts when it opens and then welds the contacts later. This is why a DC relay will 'wipe' the contacts to clean them whereas a pressure switch contacts will not. An automotive relay with the switch might be one good solution. I have many 12 volt relays on my Jeep with the relays and high current under the hood and not under the dash. In critical circuits like brakes I will use a cycling circuit breaker but otherwise I use circuit breakers that when tripped then I have to manually reset them or otherwise use fuses.
Paul n Ben are rock steady in the face of fire lol you get that way when you know it happens at any time and fire extinguishers are part of your ovme never go anywhere without one like a good knife.
It's your pressure switch that is wrong for your lockers. It means you either have a leak (water and soap chase the bubbles), your pressure switch isn't set low enough or your compressor is inadequate. You can adjust the pressure switch by removing the spring and cutting a little bit out to make it softer, or replacing it with a softer spring. Also if you have the compressor going straight to the lockers it's never going to work right. Make sure you are plumbing it to a reservoir, then to your lockers. You got those tubes sitting right by the compressor, make sure you can weld them to where they will hold pressure and a reservoir is solved it doesn't have to be a great capacity I just asked to hold PSI. Good luck 😁👍
something funny that a friend of mine did with tire rubber came off, he took nother old tire, cut the patch f the old tire and super glued it into the tire missed the tread, that was 2 yrs ago, and since then the patch is holding up, the sper glue was from harbor freight,.
I would say the air compressor issue is due to not having an expansion tank. That’s what I would try and maybe a one way valve on the output of the compressor. I have a Smittybuilt air compressor with tank and pressure switch that works flawless.
I don't think I remember a time when Paul quit on an obstacle. That's how you know you're on a difficult trail. Nice job staying calm, and having a fire extinguisher handy.
20:04 If I had to guess it came off at around 9:14. They were spinning quite fast and then grabbed that rock quite suddenly. I might be wrong, of course, but that seems like the right time for that to happen. 🤔
my little 47 Willys with no hydraulics and 40's is still chugging along,,....... used to guide thru the Grand Canyon on river trips, you're scooter is toast dude
Try breaking the pinns off thst hold the spring on thermostat and put it back in. It will look like a big washer then without the part with the spring. This way it slows the coolant down better then just letting it flow with out a thermostat. I learned this from a friend ling ago when my Iroc Z was over heating. That way it slows the coolant down so the fans can cool it down some.
If you've swapped compressors and pressure sensors multiple times, then you most likely have a leak in the lines or the fittings to the locker, or the locker itself is losing air. Fill up a sprayer (set on stream rather than mist) filled with water and some dish washing liquid - then spray down the lines and fittings going to the axle looking for bubbles. If you don't find any, it is time to pull the back cover and check the internal line going to the locker and the locker itself - you may even be able to hear it. I don't suggest that you use the on board compressor to do this, hook it into the shop compressor with adjustable output regulator so you can listen for leaks.
That looked like a nice little adventure
Good 👍
Nice
Nice vedio
👍
Very good
Notice how Paul was all calm with fire. Even Ben was about to roll, Paul didn't even spill his mountain dew. 3 great saves 🤣
Put that down to experience, Paul has about 3 fires a week on average in his own shop 😂
Paul always seems to be cool calm and collected in those kinda situations. He’s a great guy to go trail riding with from what I’ve seen.
Paul saved the day there. I believe he was a fire fighter in Glendale at one point.
Paul is, or was, I am not sure if he is still one, a volunteer firefighter
I was really mostly impressed with his ability to save Ben and the dew at the same time. 🤣
Paul is the type of guy you would want with you. Calm and collected and can pretty much fix anything
Paul has a fire in his own shop almost weekly, it's normal for him 😁
And good all round sollid bloke !1 Enjoying from the UK ! Cheers
Except for transmissions. 🤣
Official contest between Paul and Rudy to see who catches more fires in 4 months. They are both my faves
Wheeling with Paul Cox is a definite positive for trail repair.
@repentandbelieveinJesusChrist2😊😊
Hey Rudi, connect your pressure switch to the positive on the airpump. if its on the negative side, the pump may still be grounding not allowing it to shut off. I've run into that issue myself.
Strong possibility
Good thought. Add a volt meter to your toolbox, Rudy.

exactly what I was going to post. Knowing what pressure you are getting too (i.e. sure you don't have a leak?)
Good Morning Rudy it was a nice surprise to see the Fab Rats crew as part of this video.
Having Paul there for the Dutchman was a very smart choice since he has the experience.
Ha here is a Dutch Guy and I love it that you have a havy difficult trail named the Dutch trial. We are nice people you know!
As an Austrian, spending my vacations in the Netherlands, I can absolutely confirm that! 🇦🇹🤝🇳🇱
As a German I concur. The Dutch are great people!
another Dutch guy here.
you are absolutely right leon
@@michaelbakker5314 Dank je wel. 😇

Either the switch is broken or you dont get enough preassure to activate it...
Or he needs a small buffer tank so the pump can shut off without the sensor loosing pressure and switching it on again.
let that be a lesson to everyone on the trails , fire extinguishers are great to invest in ! glad you and the rudicon is okay
Holy macaroni that went up fast! 😮 thank goodness for having a fire extinguisher… and a Paul!
You need to try adding a small tank. It may need better back pressure to work.
I agree, a high limit shutoff can't work without a place to build up air, I don't think
That's exactly the problem.
He either needs a low pressure 15 psi shut off or a tank with a 50/60 psi shut off. The lockers are very low pressure.
Rudy, dude, you are like the king of adventures inside an adventure. Glad you are with amazing friends who all have each others backs. 👍✌
ok
It is awesome to watch videos like this where people work together and having fun too
I'll tell ya... If anything was to go wrong on the trail... Paul is the first guy I'd pick to be there!
Or Rory
@@Myhandle306 him too, for sure!!! Sorry Rory, I wasn't thinking!
Paul, Matt and Rory are all the same type of personality in that respect. Small catastrophes are just something you fix. Not get upset about.
If you're leaking air and it never reaches the threshold, the pump is just gonna keep running...
I was wondering why he would add what looks like a resistor. That would make the compressor put out less air and not reach the cutoff pressure.
ok
ok
I think he added the resistor because "it works when the Jeep is off, but not when it's running" which led him to believe it was a voltage thing...
Wow, I can’t believe anyone thinks this is a Trail! Looks like

Why no gauge on the output? If you cannot measure it, you cannot troubleshoot it, all you can do is guess or replace parts constantly; use an oil-filled gauge to protect the pointer from fluctuations.
