Watching you and your dad work together almost brought tears to my eyes. I hope you don't ever forget how absolutely invaluable memories like that are! In fact, after you read this, you should go give your dad a huge hug, whether he likes it or not.
Rudy, you are lucky to have such a great dad and Matt you are lucky to have such a great son.
The respect between father and son is priceless. The transfer of knowledge terrific.
Your Dad is a Corvair expert! That was awesome of Matt to rebuilt that for you! He has his one Corvair warehouse of parts for them!
It was a beautiful sight to see to them, well, being together. Watching and being a part of the release/reception of knowledge and insight from father to son was awesome.
If it doesn't run it is not fun. All work no play.
Corvair expert, maybe. I wouldn't know. But he certainly doesn't know crap about an "Open Differential".
Hi Rudy I have found filling the center with grease then wad up a bit of rag and tap your extension bar in works way quicker then bread .
But grease is messy. Wadded up newspaper works best.
Grease with bread, etc works. Even an old candle or bacon works in a pinch.
Best!
Also peanut butter. Anything viscous that won't compress works.
I like the grease method as well, works great. as far as a mess, it isnt bad at all, take a rag and wipe off when you are done. It is so easy.
I enjoyed watching your Dad on your channel more than I like watching him on his. Always good to see Father and Son. Teaching, Learning and Doing.
I hope *Matt's* paying attention to the sentiment and demography it's coming from. With the huge wave in retiree's uTube has become a massive source of true reality entertainment, and it's free for now!
At times, in life, any one’s view can suck and get dim, pressure, expectations, deadlines and loan officers. Sometimes you just got to step back and breathe, be thankful. Mr. Rudy, you have a lot to be thankful for Sir. I hope you and yours have the Times of Your Life at the Games 👊🇺🇸👊
As father with 2 sons and 2 grandsons and 1 great grandson, I truly enjoy Matt and Rudy working together.
Rudy your just like your dad when it comes to Corsair. He may give you grief when you boys break things but he has a big smile when you boys come to him for help. Treasure all this time you spend with him!
Matt telling his son Rudy to use a scotch brite with a zzzz tool to clean the clutch mating surface 🤣😂😂🤣
Rudy, when your dad is explaining and helping build the transaxle. All I can see is his excitement in showing you and teaching you about it all. I personally wish I had this type of connection with my father! Thanks so much for sharing all this with us all!
Good to see Matt and Rudy back together ...priceless.
The purple air cleaner hoses with the yellow frame absolutely works! Your dad needs to build a Corvair into a sand buggy recovery vehicle! Keep doing what you do 😁👍‼️
Why not? It works for LarryBoy!!
Just got back from 3 weeks of offroad playing in Baja. I’ve got a whole bunch of catching up to do. What a great way to start. Love your shenanigans. Stay safe while adventuring.
Matt is the corvair whisperer😂😂😂 thank god he has saved and rescued all those parts even though some people thought he was crazy and a hoarder. Dad knows best kids. Thank your father and never forget to say " I love you dad ". It makes our day.
Nice job getting it fixed up! It amazes me that you and Paul at fabrats use the roads and never seem to get pulled over!!😂
Yeah I wish it was like that where I live here in Beaverton Oregon.
Paul gets pulled over in the Crown vic he towed the Lake Powell boat back to its owners in Georgia I think it is? When he was test driving it before they left. Also Fab rats gets pulled over on the way back from Oregon with some old hotrod.
Paul has hinted at his run ins with the local police, but only the Crown Vic made it in a video. It would be hard not to get stopped from time to time.
Mine carries the plate from the donor bug it was built from. Never have been questioned. I live in the Cascades in Western Washington. I've had it in Vegas, Baja, and Sand Hollow. I just make sure I'm driving respectful. NO HOTROD ANTICS ON THE ROAD!
Was told once in WA, at a gas station by state patrol, my lack of fenders could be an issue. But only if they were causing a problem. Meaning only when raining or on a dusty dirt road kicking up debris.
Have fun all.
just a little old guy trivia for you, I was taught the bread trick in the mid 60's by an old guy that was taught the trick in the 30' by an old guy. It's nice to see that the trick still works for you youngsters.
It's the best thing since sliced bread.
Finally we get some Corvair content! One of you need to start a Corvair only channel.
I have never used Bread for the Pilot bushing removal , but I have used Grease.
You n your dad should start doing more videos like this together like how you work together
Hey.. *this* could be the ultimate multi-series adventure on *Matts* new Channel, boosting Rudy's channel as well, or vise versa credits.
Matt and Rudy (or Rudy and Matt) ground up restore Colin's truck, that's a whole series 😎😎
Matt and his Corvair knowledge need to be preserved.
❤ *Matt,* this episode is precisely the direction your new Channel should touch on!! *Many* retired uTubers will sit and watch for *hours* at normal playback speed 👍😎✊
Thanks Rudy 🙂
Nice video, Rudy. As others have said, treasure those moments with your dad. 👍🏼 It was cool to see Kaulin got Jonah out of the editor's chair for a bit of high jinks on the dunes as well.
It's a good thing your Dad knows where all the good spare parts are.
Have fun with the buggy but just remember those parts aren't brand new. 😉👍
"That boy could tear up an Anvil"! Takes me back. 😆
Never seen a man as enthusiastic as Matt helping his son.
You’re a lucky man Rudy.
I loved seeing Zack smile when Rudy asked him to drive. Wonderful seeing Matt come through for Rudy with parts. Its great when Dad and son can work together. Thanks for the video.
I agree with your brother. Keep doing that, and you're going to break it. Daddy to the rescue. That's what dads are for when you have a good dad.
Cool seeing you and your Dad working together. There isn't much I miss more than working with my boys. Hope they feel the same.
And the Purple! 💜
They do, and your Grandchildren will be taught your methods as well 👍😎✊
Awesome wheelies! But, as dad said: stupid is as stupid does. 🤣
T F the mighty claw 🔨 showed up. Love all the footage, all of you seem so much like a team, always ready to spend hours helping each other with all sortd of projects.
Its possible community could still exist ❤❤
pilot bearing removal, i used to use a really thick grease
😱😮Damn, Matt has some Major Knowledge in the Corvair Sand Rail arena!! 🤔😁👌
That looks like a fun but scarey ride, that guy can drive.😮😮
Rudy your hard on the gear but fun
Just wondering how is Colin’s pickup coming haven’t seen it for a bit
Keep them coming
I like how you can drive on the road. If I tried that, where I live 10 cops would be behind me.
It's okay to break 'em if you're okay with fixing it. -- Thanks for the fun upload. ---
Love seeing Matt and Rudy working together. Corvairs certainly run through their blood! Also, Zach is a great addition to the channel. Where did he come from?
Did a better job capturing Matt's personality than MORR does. It funny we grew up riding Go-Karts & dune buggies wanting to drive everything else now we've come full circle back to dune buggies & Go-Karts 😂😂
No wonder the sons also like Corvairs. Dad has all of the parts to rebuild them, and he'll jump right in and help. 😅
(Mostly I'm kidding. The more I see of the Corvairs, the more I want one, myself.)
Cut to Matt saying so we got a call from Rudy 😂😂
Awesome sand rail and with a corvair engine makes it even cooler. Your Dad knows all there is to know about them and has the parts. They always bring a smile to his face,
Its cool to hear your dad talk about Corvair stuff! Reminds me of my dad a ton. Awesome video!
I think i like matt alot more knowing he is a hoarder of corvair parts 😂
It's a good thing that your dad has all those parts for Corvairs. It got your rail back up and working relatively easy.
Corvair people tend to have large supplies of spare parts. I do, but I _still_ never have what I need!
Man, I fell in love with those Desert Dog tires when I was a kid in the early 70's. Still love them! Had a friend buy a set & put them on his Jeep. They were bad in the Southeast Arkansas mud!
Desert Dogs & Truetracs, the original offroad tires...
Back in the day, I used axle grease instead of bread to remove pilot bearings.
Nice a nother Video 😊
Those Corvair 6’s sound so much better than the pancake 4’s. (Especially with those straight pipes).
This is so much more than Rudy getting his sand rail fixed. It’s a father son moment caught on camera. Matt, passing down his knowledge to his oldest son!
Rebuilding a trans axle and building memories with your dad. That's awesome
I would never thought a hole in anything related to the transmission would be something you would do on purpose . But if Matt said it works I believe him . He is probably one of if not the best Corvair guy there is .
Go carts for adults! I had a go cart and a 1/10 mile track behind my house growing up.
GOOD JOB BOYS!
Purple looks good. Great video.
Alternate method for pilot bearing removal - grab a handful of paper out of your shredder & put it in a bucket of water to soak. Take a break for lunch and use your bread for a sandwich. After lunch stuff the soggy paper into the bearing & from there the process is the same. Great that your dad is the hoarder of most every used Corvair and their spare parts LOL!
Hey Rudy when removing the pilot bearing instead of using bread use grease. And if you use a wooden dowel, widdle with knife and sand paper to fit, And when you smack it it lubes the bearing coming out.
Good work sir. Old rails, can’t believe there’s some still around!!! Brings back memories.
I gotta say Matt, you are a man much like myself,a large helping of patience and an equal helping of good humor. "don't worry I've got more of those parts right here somewhere". Good on ya.
LOOKS AND SOUNDS FANTASTIC!! YOUR DAD IS A TRUE EXPERT ON THESE CORVAIRS. MAKES ME WANT ONE.
Nice. There's a certain amount of rawness that comes with riding in a buggy and that ups the fun factor...
Super cool of your dad to help out! I've got a buddy getting rid of a bunch of corvair parts. Let me know if you want his info
At 76 Im still learning lots about vehicles more so Corvairs. You just don't see many Corvairs here In England. But I hope your Dad kindly explained about abusing your sand buggy, but yes I know it was fun - while it lasted. OK, colours. I raced In 4 different formulas here In Hot Rod class, "Banger class" which saloon cars or estates (sedans or wagons In American) racing 1/4 mile ovals but full hard contact Is allowed - great fun, and I also raced single seat Stock Cars with big push bars all around it, very good fun, but, my racing colours were Purple and yellow. Yellow roof and roof supports the body purple. Love your channel, so different to your dads or fab rats.. To include Merlin's also. All good in their own way. thank you.
The fastest way to break anything seems to involve a Wetzel or a Cox in the driver's seat.
Very generous dad - parts, teach, assemble.
@ 6:55 "It'll be the last time..." Lemme stop you right there; you just jinxed yourself, Rudy LOL
Great video!! Sure helps when "Dad" has all the parts and expertise you need when making repairs!! LOL!! Trust me when I say that Dads love helping their sons fix stuff and offering their experience. Makes me feel really great when I would help my son... or daughter fix stuff!!! "Divots in the yard"... what divots? I don't seeum"!! Priceless!!
Keep em coming man. Love the vids!
Way cool of your dad! Smart old dude!
Nicely done Rudy .... and smart of buddy to wait until back in the yard before donut time .. lol
Matt the Corvair whisperer!
I wish there was a way to give this multiple LIKES!
the idea in the technique of using the bread is similar to the trick I learned for that situation. In my learning the tools were the thickest grease on hand and a solid bar to use as the driver. When you pack the grease (or bread in your case) into the cavity, then drive a solid rod into the cavity, you create hydraulic pressure that acts on the inner face of the bearing sleeve needing removal.
Hi Rudy, You probably have figured this differential thingy out already. When I started building HotRod VW's back in the '70s, I learned real quick about the SuperDiff. It a diff that holds 4 spyder gears instead of the usual stock 2. Also, you need to replace the sideplate to a heavy duty sideplate so the pinion does not force the ring out the side of the trans. The stock plate does not usually break, it just flexes enough to strip teeth off the ring and/or pinion.
Anything over 1800 cc should get these mods done, otherwise, wheelies will be painful. My favorite was a 1500cc bored and stroked to 2490cc and had to run 100 octane AVGAS. Yes, it churned those 33" tall X 13" wide Terratrac tires quite nicely. The SuperDiffs have been arround for decades so there is a lot of How-To info out there. If you do it rite, it will handle that Corvair engine quite nicely. Best of luck with that sand rail.
Purple and "Gold" were my school colors. I think they look great together.
Serious Mad Max vibes
Corvair ....anything corvair....wearin and breaking are ehhhh....but fixin and such is priceless....fasha and son makes good too...
Alway's nice to see a farther and son team up. Now Matt's going to get a lot of calls from people needing help and parts for their corvair. Thanks for the video stay safe guy's.
"Alway's"?! Really?! 😂😂😂 I mean, "guy's" is bad enough, but that just takes the cake! 😂 Why not go with "call's" or "thank's" as well?! 😂😂😂
By FAR! yer best vid to date!! AWESOME!
Fine job guy's, thanks for the video.
Great fix Rudy, “ Thks Dad” getting close. Gonna be a good old time! 🤙😎
In my much younger days in the 1970's I had a Corvair powered sand rail. Only problem I ever had was the ball in the shifting mechanism kept coming apart. The motor never ever gave me any grief.
Love the yellow and purple
Classic Wetzel ending. We are out of gas!!!
You are SO lucky to have your Dad.....
sure wish Matt lived close to me! I love Corvairs and he is a fountain of knowledge..(surely envy his stash of parts!! Had a '65 Corsa crown engineering CorV8 in high school, and now have a '60 cave man coupe (stock). I now feel pretty sad about wrecking a perfectly good Corsa 140 just because it had a bad clutch.
HEY! Hello Rudy! Thumbs UP!!
How did I not know Matt was your dad.....all the pieces were there. you're awesome Rudy! Keep it up!
You must not have warched old MORR videos then. Rudy was a regular on MORR for the first years, both doing fabrication and off-road recoveries. But the he decided to spread his wings and leave MORR to start on his own with this RAD channel instead. Rudy is Matt's oldest son from a previous relationship (his mum is Canadian, and Rudy has lived in Canada too).
Rudy has 3 younger half-brothers on his dad's side, Kaulin, Rhett, and Karter. Since Rudy left the MORR channel, Kaulin and Rhett has started featuring more and MORR on the channel, while the youngest brother Karter still only does a short cameo once in a while whitout saying much. Rudy's previous girlfriend was also part of the MORR channel mostly filming, from time to time, while his new girlfriend ofte films for this RAD channel.
We know Rudy also has a younger half-brother on his mother's side, as he has featured on this RAD channel filming etc.
The comments on wheel torque being totally equal in an open diff are spot on. Whether people can apply that learning is an entirely different matter.
Put him outside with a rake on the divits 😂😂😂your dad is awesome has everything to do with corvars he loves to help you on this with covar ❤
You guys are going to have a lot of fun at Glamis with those machines
that's what great dads are for, dad's will not turn there backs on there kid's
Always nice for friends and having your Dad on speed dial
Matt Wetzil, March 11, 2023: "I have a hard time keepin track of what day it is and what time it is, but I know where my Corvair parts are." Earlier Rudy was saying (more or less), 'My dad has this uncontrollable thing about Corvairs - if anyone asks for or needs help working on them, he can't help himself, he just Has to do it. '
Hurray for SouthWest Utah Off Road trekkers, racers, rescuers, fans, etc. !!
Just Imagine - having all that Fun in some of The most gorgeous landscape I've Never even seen for myself !!!
Definitely sounds better than the old school VW buggies you typically see!
Corvair content with Matt is my happy place!
You and your dad are way cool!
Always great to see the collaboration between you and your dad .. the guru of Covairs ..
(The Covair whisperer)
Those buggies are soo much more fun than todays side by side’s ..
The 2wd just makes it more challenging and also probably make you a better driver ..
(Maybe) ..
Keep the videos coming and keep the
Collaborations with Trevor and your dad and everyone else ..
Great video
I love the safety squint !
