This is a very important video to be saved in gold I have 2 questions 1) when you set up the camera with center and parallel do you do them for every shot or just for the first shoot on the site. 2) can you do the setup for Nikon zII
and Thanks for this great 360 education which comes from lots of experience
Yeah, would you please tell more about parallax in dslr pano shooting? It’s a little bit confusing for those who want to switch from 360-camera to dslr.
Yes for sure. Sorry I going a little bit fast there trying to cover as much as possible under 50-min. So for Parallax calibration - if you are not taking the camera off your pano head and you are not switching lens (which you should not during a job), you only need to calibrate it once. So here is what you should do most of the time: get your lens, you camera (Nikon Z7 II), and your pano head / level head up on a tripod / monopod setup the day BEFORE your job for pre-production. Do the stereo calibration as the video instructed to find your no parallax point. Mark the location. Depend on your pano head. NN6 and Bushman KALAHARI has lock you can lock the exact value and not moving your rig. For others, you can just simply use a tapes to mark the position down (or a marker). All pano head has number / rules on the arms. Then go to job EARLY. Set up your rig BEFORE client arrive. You setup the rig again and use the lightstand or and 2 vertical lines to do the Parallax calibration. Then lock down your rig and don't break it down. You client arrive. Talk to them and start shooting. As long as you lock everything firmly (you are not popping your lens our in the middle of the shoots), you should be able to carry the rig around and take photos. The Parallax should be good. Some pros actually use NN6 to lock the camera and lens combo down FOR LIFE - so it won't never change position and you never need to do Parallax calibration. But I think it is easy to do anyway. It will take you like less than 5 min when you get some practices. BTW, with episode two coming up, you see you DON'T NEED to be 100% precise. Lots of thing PTGui can fix it for you automatically. So don't hung up on the technical :) I hope this help!
Am very excited about this 3-part Masterclass! THANK YOU for creating it, Hugh!
My pleasure!
@@hughhou when is the next part coming out?
Man I could listen to you all day. I have your video playing the background while I edit.
Wow, thanks
That is a real gem! Feel myself like I robbed you watching this video for free 😂
Lol! You are welcome to rob me anything you want. Just promise me to use some of the things you learn here on your jobs and arts :)
always on point with your advice, my go to 360 guy!
Thank you!!
Thank you Hugh for another great tutorial, or more appropriately tutorials! Even though been shooting 360° since 1999, I always enjoy watching other pro's workflows and insights. Great series you have here!
Awww thank you so much!
Amazing results
Thank you so much Hugh. This was super helpful information. I feel way more prepared to start the Virtual Tour journey. You were thorough and did not leave out anything. This video is gold and the fact that you made it available for free is incredibly generous.
Glad it was helpful! I wish you success in your virtual tour journey. We will have more free masterclass like this soon as the space is evolving quickly with new tech available to us. Don't forget to subscribe.
I wonder who give a thumb down. Maybe accidental.
You are THE BEST!!!!!!
Awww thank you so so much!
You put a lot of work into your videos, respect!
I appreciate that!
You explain things very well
I love you! I recently started to shoot with Dslr an I was thinking about how to speed up my workflow. You gave me all the answers....
Glad it help !
Great Video! very helpful. When does the second part come out about editing and stitching and PTGui? Thank you.
Hi Hugh, very excited about your masterclass, because I shoot also 360 photos with my Sony a6600 and the Rokinon 7,5mm fisheye. Yesterday I saw your Athens video in my Oculus GO, Very impressive stuff and because I lived for 2 years in Athens, you brought me back in time. Your are the master sensei or mister miyagi of VR!!!
Awww thank you! I am glad you like the Athens video. It is one of my favorite place to travel and I can't wait to go back soon :)
Wow, fantastic video and explanations - thank you for creating this masterpiece series!
Glad you enjoyed it!

谢谢!!
Thanks for all the valued information! 🇵🇹
My pleasure!
Sir, may be I am wrong, new virtual tour creator like me the equipment you use looks so expensive. But the technic is you describe is 100% ok. I just want to mean, lots of new creator have not that much currage and ability to buy those equipment. My request is that please besides this video you should also provide a workflow with less expensive equipment. For example beside Sony A1 you can make a tutorial on Sony apsc camera. It will good for new student like me. It just my parsonal openion, don't take is seriously. Already you help us so much and a big thank you for everything.
Great news. Forward with this!
Thank you man! How's your virtual tour biz coming along?
@@hughhou Almost hijacked! It’s the working communication involved giving me hope. Thanks for your concern! 👍
Thanks Hough for another very good Video. When can your UA-cam followers expect the 3D Viste video. I've been waiting for this for sooooooo long now.
Will work on it soon :) 3D Vista is not the only one I use lol. And it’s not supposed that well in Meta Quest 2. Still building solution
Loving the 'lock down hair' btw....... :)
Lol thanks!
looking forward to seeing the tutorial on making 360 video with a dslr
you deserve my thumb
Awww thank you!
Agree man for professional work I always use my camera I personally use the 360 cameras for videos and fun to be honest. I actually do a lot HDRI for car photography in CGI they are all 35k 40k with D850 and is not complicated as people think I guess is an miss Idea but now days is so easy.
Great video! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Oh wow! JO CG we should talk. Doing a car interior 360 shots for luxuary brand is the next tutorial I really work to work on but this is not my expertise. Hope we can collab on that!
Thank you Hugh. I appreciate you sharing that. I'm using a budget setup Sony A6000 with Rokinon 8mm, Nodal ninja MK3 & ptgui.. Your tutorial helped me a lot.
That’s a great setup
@@hughhou thank you sir for your reply. Much appreciated
Very informative
Glad you think so!
Hi Hugh. I am an Italian photographer.
Thanks for your very helpful videos.
What is currently the best lens (value for money), to take 360° photos
in some of your videos you talked about the 7Artisans 7.5mm F2.8 II and the Meike Optics MK 8mm f3.5
Or is there something better today (2023)?
What's the best?
(I use a sony A7IV)
Hey Hugh! Do you have any updated video from 2023/2024 on the best professional ways to create high quality virtual tours?
Bonjour et merci pour toutes ces précieuses informations!!! Serait il possible d'avoir un exemple de photo en VR180 HAL200? Merci par avance. Merci pour la qualité du contenu de vos vidéo!!! TOP!
Great video man! When the next ones?
Coming up soon!
Awesome, much appreciated. I've got a Sony A7r3, is there any compelling reason to move up to 7r4 or A1? Also, I have the Insta 360 Pro II, What are your thoughts/experience using this camera for virtual tours and 360 photos? Are you considering doing a class on the 360 Pro II?
Great masterclass. This is much appreciated! Is it better to get a tripod with a long center column or a solid monopod w/ weighted base for 360 photography?
Both work. With Mecha - tripod is better.
thanks. is part 2 here on yt?
awesome video!
Can you do a tutorial on shooting interior car virtual tour?
Great video again Hugh! Is there a similar video you shared already with the Canon R5?
Shooting nodal? Not yet - still can not figure out how to do it lol
Hey Hugh, What Metering Mode do you typically use for 360 interior space?
Great video and very informative. What kit would you recommend in 2024. I'm looking at a Sony A7R V but not sure on the Pano Lens? Have you thought about an update video for 2024?
where can i find the next episode "Next episode preview: PTGui 12 and Lightroom in-depth"? Thank you.
Not out yet lol.
Hi Hugh! I learned a lot thank to You. Atm I am choosing my new setup. I was sure about a7IV and Sammy 12 mm but now i realised that maybe I should go for A7r5 and meike 8mm? What are your toughts? Do you know what res will I achieve with a7IV 33 mpix with 3 shots with meike?
Hi Hugh, awesome master class! Where can I see the other two episodes?...
Thank you
Coming soon! I am still working on them :)
For the vertical line. Do we always have to adjust it for every spot we move to, like the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, do we always have to adjust the nap every time or would it be aligned all the time?
Thanks for the offering this masterclass it truly gave me a new look at 360 VT. I have the Sony a7r3. Will it work with this set-up fully? also I prefer to shoot only two shots. Witch Hal 200 entaiya lens do I buy ? I'm looking forwarded for the next part of this masterclass on ptgui and Lightroom. thanks again you are the best
Yes absolutely! Not that far from the quality a7r4 get! HAL200 is sold on their website in Japan. Here many rental houses have it as well in Hollywood as it is a common lens to use in movie production.
Great video! What are your thoughts on the LUMIX S1R for HDR virtual tours?
Love it
Great video! Thanks for your work!
This seems like a great kit for making virtual tours.
Can it be modified to shoot 360 from a height of 3 meters or more? How to turn the panoramic head?
There is auto panning pano head - they are pricy tho.
Great info.. Just a heads up I can't hit the Bell notification. You will have to change your settings for that to work :) It says you have it set for kids able to watch, which is great but due to the privacy act, certain features are turned off when you enable it as kid safe. From one Creator to another. I'm starting my virtual tour biz off on the right foot thanks to your tutorials!
Thanks for the tip!
What do u think about A7 III in virtual tour?
Hey Hugh,
Many thanks for your great tutorials, they are very helpful.
Just a question please, I have a tight budget for a camera of maximum 1.000 USD.
Is it better to get a Dslr like Cannon Eos m50 or the Ricoh theta z1 ?
Thanks again,
Oh ...... Thank you very much, finally a master (I consider you such), who suggests the MEIKE, instead of the SMYANG which fu....g costs double even here in Italy.
Thanks.
ps
Meike 8mm f / 3.5 on Sony a6000l what resolution can it have on a single shot.
Is Sony a6000 full frame? It depends on how many row of photos you take. The Mieke is a full frame lens so Full frame camera usually take full advantage of it. But it work on any camera. Just need to take more raw of photo.
@@hughhou No, it's not full frame, it costs too much a f.f. for me (purchased a few days ago): my wife is still pissed about the Kandao 8k that I received 2 weeks ago.
Thanks for your valuable tips and tutorials.
hy hugh! would you prefer about meike 8mm and ttartisan 7.5mm?
Can u share your 360 panorama picture with us , we want to see how sharp and beautiful this photo
I believe posted the link in description.
Question would you use the Meike with a sony R2 or the z1? Which one will make the shot be sharper? Thanks
It’s my boi Hugh! Hey man, did you ever put together that flash for virtual tour or the GUI stitching vid? Much appreciated
I took a break from making virtual tour tutorial and actually doing virtual tour jobs lol. Feel like I need more practices before making more tutorials. The short answer is not yet. But I want to sooooon as I have so much more new tips to share!!
any possible time line on when the next part of the masterclass will happen? I'm really looking forward to learning how to stitch the 3x9 photos in ptgui 12 and lightroom.
Very soon! We might make 3DVista tutorial soon as lots of ppl requests for an professional lesson on 3D Vista and it’s not out there.
Hi Hugh.. Thank You for this amazing video/tutorial... Can you please suggest why the non-parallax point is needed to be found. Also please suggest, if I am tight on budget, can I do the shoot with BallHead tripod. Thanks.
non-parallax is needed but there are lens that does not really matter - I actually have a new tutorial coming. But ballhead is a no go. You need to build your own panhead - there is budget. version as well in my other tutorial
Fantastic video and thank you for sharing your knowledge! Any idea when part 2 will be posted? I am also interested in any tips and tricks you have for shooting virtual tours specifically for virtual reality. Thank you again!
Yes! All these are coming out! Part 2 will be in 2 week as it is a little bit complicated to create - and it is longer lol
thank you - please send the way you shoot with Cannon
thank you
Will do!
How I set up for a7iii?
Hi, would be great to have a tutorial for Nikon Z7ii
Sure! I will get my hand on a Z7ii
Will this work with Sony A7riii?
Absolutely!! A7R3 is very similar in quality with A7R4. Just take longer on HDR and without mega pixel shift - which another tutorial on gigapixel 360 photo tutorial coming next
Nice video :) Curious what do you think of Meike 8mm vs Samyang 12mm F2.8 fisheye for the sony a7r3?
I like Meikie - it’s really sharp. But Samyang has a really big following and literally every pro has it. So you might be safer to go with Samyang.
Hey CreatorUp, thanks for this great video it helped a lot. Do you think I can use the Meike 8mm with an Sony Alpha 7? It has 24,3 megapixels. Thanks!
Yes, absolutely!!
Thanks for the valuable info. Can you correct the bitly URLs? None of them worked for me!
Thank you for letting me know! For some reason all the link it is broken but now I fixed them all!
is it possible to use the dual fisheye lens on an blackmagic pocket cinema 6K?
Hello Hugh, thank you for all this great information! I was wondering if the PTGui 12 and Lightroom in-depth episode was completed yet? I couldn't seem to find it.
Actually not yet! I got side track with VR video work. And a lot changes since then.
@@hughhou No worries, continuing to grow yourself personally and professionally in the industry is a huge benefit as it gives you more experience and thus more knowledge to share with the rest of the curious world. Keep on keepin' on and I'm really looking forward to when this video is completed!
Once again a very nice content from you!! What can you say about the 360 shot FEATURE of DJI RS2?
Very very good - as good as Mavic 2 Pro - I won't have time to make a review but I highly recommend - only thing is rumor said M3Pro is coming in around August.
@@hughhou No, I mean the DJI Ronin S2 Gimbal for DSLR cameras and small factor Cinema cams
Ops Lol. Yes I have the DJI RS2 - great for 2D but 360 camera you see your gimbal so no.

check out my Virtual Photo using RS2
I couldn’t find your tutorial on using flash for panos. Really curious about your approach with flash.
I have not have time to come back to make one yet. Not enough interests on Pro level virtual tour content - everyone want easy way out Insta360 1 shot workflow :( But I will come back from my pro virtual tour content soon.
@@hughhou Fair enough. I gave up on the 1-inch 360, still not great for poorly lit areas. Mirrorless is still better. Love your content anyway.
Hello, I have worked 360 with an a6300 and with the samyang 12mm micro 4/3 lens with a micro 4/3 to Emount adapter. The quality of the photo takes advantage of the entire sensor of the a6300, now I have an a7iii, would you recommend taking the photographs with the a7iii and the samyang 7.5mm or continue using the a6300?
Yes, the color of a7iii will be so much better than a6300
Thank you for this video. What do you think about Laowa 4mm f2.8 Circular Fisheye Lens. Is too much for 360?
I actually recently did a review on a camera with 2 of those. It is pretty good but not as good as the one here. I think for 99% of the job it is good enough tho and it is super easy to find no parralax point
@@hughhou Ive seen that video but what about a single 4mm? I think its 4mm Apsc?!
What about the canon 8-15mm lens metabones adaptor with a7rlll in this set up, will it work the 8-15mm is sharp
Oh yes! Very nice lens the Canon. That is my to go 360 Video lens for RED Komodo and even Blackmagic 12K!!! So go for it if you have it (not cheap tho lol)
Great series. I use Canon and SonyA7R111 with Metabones adapter and Canon lenses. Any problems using the Canon Meike version on Sony with my adapter? That way I can use on both systems. Thanks.
I use exactly Canon Meike version as you saw in this video lol. Yes I also have all Canon lens lol.
@@hughhou Grateful for your reply. Best
Hi Hugh, Thanks for the free tutorial, helped me a lot here... I need some of your advice on if i go for canon RP which is a mirrorless full frame camera, but it has RF mount and it comes with a EF lens adaptor to RF camera! I'm thinking to go for Meike 8mm or Samyang 8mm.... my only concern is that the adaptor will add some flange distance to the whole thing... and does it mean it changes the output of the image or field of view!
It does a bit but honestly it won't matter that much. There is no RF mount fisheye so EF is your best choose. I will go with the R5 and get the ND adapter for EF - it is the best combo I think!
@@hughhou appreciate the reply, well I have budget restrain! canon RP or Nikon z5 are the only option imo in that price range! and sadly both need adopter! :(
The 360 photos taken by a normal Reflex with fisheye lens is too big to upload on websites, social networks? Could we run these virtual tours on smartphones?
Hugh please, tutorial with my Canon EOS 250D + Samyang 10mm f2.8 ... tnx
It is almost the same workflow lol. 10mm should be able to do only 3 shots just like this tutorial. Where you get stuck?
Thanks Hugh, can you tell me which heavy monopod base you recommend?
I use bushman corepole with weight - you can just search for weight with 3/8 mount
Hi @@hughhou, Bushman COREPOLE VR - is no longer available for sale. CORELITE is only 36" high. Do you have any other recommendations for mirrorless set up? BUSHMAN MONOPOD V2 may be?
Hugh, for the Entanya HAL 200 which version (4.2, 6.0 or 3.6) E mount?
6.0 - do you have Full-frame? It depend on your sensor size
Hi,
I'm actually trying your technique and I'm a little confused regarding exposure. You said to expose for the dark side of the room and that's your exposure set, but then when you turn the camera to point to the window (the bright side), that is going to be very blown out and that is what I've found to happen. Please can you help, I'm confused! Thank you!
maybe a less expensive setup: the Laowa 4mm F2.8 Fisheye on 4/3 camera, the lens has a 201° angle, i think 2 only two pictures works too
Yes Laowa 4mm is what I used for GH5. Chromatic Aberration is a big issue on this setup tho. I am even thinking using the new SONY 14mm for this to get edge to edge sharp without CA problem.
@@hughhou how many shots would be required with the Sony 14mm to get full 360 coverage?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hello Hugh, can I use the sony 28mm f/2 with fisheye adapter and an a7riii to make HDR 360 photos?
yes! you need to turn more like maybe every 30 degree
Which HAL 200 lens version for shooting 2 front and back on a full frame camera? 3.6 or 6mm?
That depend on your camera BTW. And sensor size
I picked up the kit all except the Kalahari v2 pano head. Is there another option that works as well or better or is it worth the back order wait time? also i just keep reviewing the masterclass 1 eagerly awaiting Lightroom and ptgui . How long Thanks
Yes Nodal Ninjas 6 or the Newman mentioned in this video are all really good.
holaaa! Greetings from Colombia, (I don't speak English very well) I want to start with 360 photography and I want to invest in a lens that also allows me to make a video clip, TTartisan 11mm 2.8 is within my budget but I don't know if it is the ideal to be able to sew in 180 %, I see that you shoot with full frame, but with aps-c lenses, Is it necessary to shoot with the black space on the sides to make it easier to sew??, gracias eres un crack!
Hi Hugh! The Sony Alpha 1 is a hugely expensive camera! Have you any less expensive routes into the business? The Nikon 610 has been recommended as it is a cheap but full frame camera?
Yes Nikon is also great - any DSLR will work I just use the best as that is the best photo camera in 2021. Trying to make my content related to the top tier. But the same theory work on any DSLR.
Hey Hugh what’s your best white balance setting for the Sony a7r iii? I’m having issues with the colour science. For 360 it’s quite tricky all 4 images look different before stitching tried custom as well looks strange. I’d like to know your go to settings for this. Thanks
I use Auto btw. For outdoor just set it day light balance. Indoor is better use Auto and then PTGui know what to do.
@@hughhou Thank you Hugh! you were right, ptgui took care of the colors in the end.
Hey Hugh need your help I ordered the meike 8mm and it says its for APS-C format but the Sony a7R IV is a full frame what do you recommend? Also what are your thoughts on a 90D with 8mm fisheye lens?
Mekie 8mm in this video with EF mount is for full frame - or it cover my entire sensor in vertical - better than my Sigma 8mm which is also full frame but cost $600+
Hey Hugh, I was wondering what you think of using this workflow with a backbone modded 1-inch edtion one r rather then a Sony mirrorless. Would it be better then using a Theta Z1?
Oh the quality gonna be really good! I will try it!!
@@hughhoucool, let me know how it turns out!
Thanks for the very interesting video.
I've been creating virtual tours on Google Maps for a few years now.
Currently working with the Canon EF 8-14mm/4f and a Sony Alpha 7 iii. Now I'm thinking if it might be worth switching to an Entaniya HAL 200 and a Sony 7r iii, 7r iv or even Alpha 1.
1st question: what do you think would be the best equipment currently?
2nd question: What is the right lens for the fullframe Sonys: Entaniya Fisheye HAL 200 3.6mm or 6mm?
Thanks a lot for your support.
Best regards
Werner
@creatorup -- I had this question too about which Entaniya lens. Guessing 6mm versions for both HAL 200 and HAL 250 if using full frame Sony?
Yes 6mm for full frame sensor
Hi Hugh, great tutorial. Just a question about the Meike 8mm 3.5 lens, is it a good choice together with Bushman Kalahari 2 panohead for fullframe Sony a7iii mirrorless camera, will the 360 photos be much better quality than Insta 360 pro 2 camera? And also here in Europe there is only Lens Meike 8mm f / 3.5 for Sony E-Mount DSLR for Aps-c sensor, is it the correct lens or there is the same lens exactly for fullframe Sony camera? It's very confusing as there is no such a lens especially for fullframe but all I could find was Sony E-Mount aps-c sensor lens. Thank you.
The image quality will be a lot better than Pro 2. You need the full-frame version for SONY a7iii
@@hughhou Thanks for your answer Hugh, but it looks there is no Meike 8mm 3.5 for full frame sony because I was searching all around the world but there is only this one model Meike 8mm 3.5 for Sony cameras with APS-C sensor and E-mount bayonet. So everywhere is this model for APS-C sensor and there is no model for full frame sony camera as Sony a7iii. Can you please provide any link with that model of Meike 8mm 3.5 for Sony full frame? Thank you.
How do i stich 2-4 video clips into one 360 video? there was an old software that did that but since than it got bought and discountinued and now you cant stich video easliy together... help! I got some fisheye lenses and want some real cool 360 videos with dslr quailty!

Can i use a Sigma 14mm or a 9mm rectilinear lens, or does it have to be fish eye?
9mm should be fine as long as PTGui can stitch

It has no brand. I also have a a6300 and i use it with this lens. I was hoping if i can also use this lens on my a73.
Using this 8mm with an a7iii, should i set the camera to crop mode?
Hi. I film with two panasonic GH5 VR180. I can film 8K and do interpolation to 60fps or film 5K 60fps. In oculus quest 2 I don't see different. What do you think. Should I just film in 5K?
5K 60fps - hold on, your can only get theorically 7K ish not 8K with open gate GH5. I have the exact same rig
@@hughhou Yes it's between 7K and 8K. I film in anamorphic mode 3840px. So for both eyes you get 7680 px. But it's only 30fps so you have to interpolate in adobe premiere the optical flow is bad. Davinci 17 speed warp will be better but the davinci software is crushing.
were is part 2?
Still working on it. So much has change since part 1
I have panasonic S1.. I already own the sigma 2.8 14-24... but with 14mm it's probably quite a few more shots :(
14mm you can try 4 shots and a zenith shoot point at the sky. Maybe you can get away without the top shot - I will try your setup just 4 without top in PTGui (tutorial next) to see if you can create a template for your own setup.
@@hughhou Awesome thanks so much!
1 dislike, I am wondering what is it that person did not like about the video.
What about Samyang 10MM f3.5 for NON-FISHEYE full frame lens? Would not that be a beast?
Yes! It will take probably 6 and need top shot to get a full pano - but that lens for sure it is really sharp!
Its all interesting to know, but i have a question, i have been looking for virtual tour prices for real state, and they are just plain stupid... there are lots of people out there that charge $300 for a whole virtual tour or even less, using these matterport equipment and platforms which even give you a 3d model view. Is it really worth the investment? How much do you charge for your virtual tours?
Matterport is actually not good quality BTW. This is Full frame sensor and it will beat Matterort any day. Also, Matterprot has hidden cost - the hosting fees. No way $300 will cover it (Matterport charge more than $300 just for this). New competition is coming as well with acceptable quality and AI assist tour creation. I am doing the review right now which will give better value, faster workflow. But $300? I won't even bother clients that won't value your time and your works. There is always cheaper competition out there - but quality is what set you apart from the competition not the low price.
