It's funny about 20 years ago, maybe almost 30, I had flashlight flares made by Duracell. They were shaped like flares and had 3 legs when you pulled the legs down, the light came on. I never actually used them but I had them for years. I wonder where they are now? It's might not be a big deal, and it isn't something that affects me, but you probably should've put a "flashing lights" warning prior to 2:20. The lights on the As Seen On TV product also seems to rotate faster. However, they seem pretty identical, so I would probably buy the Amazon version. They are cheaper, and come with a carrying case.
Due to the sounding of Lizerd Flares their lastest commercial, I decided to seek out reviews. Amazon Choice product is my choice. The fact the Amazon''s product lasted hours before going out and not dimming was a plus. Appriciate this review.

So I just got around to opening mine because I'd grabbed one this morning at a truck stop for $15 bucks (ouch) and mine came with both a set of batteries and instructions that mention turning it off from any mode by holding the power button for 2 seconds. 👍
Looks like Lizard Flare is just lastest rebranding of a an existing Chinese OEM product (which to be fair is very common). Best to save money and get the "original ones" on Amazon ^_^
Can confirm, light looks orange IRL on the orange-bag lights. Source: I bought these 18 months ago to put into the car. They haven’t quite made it there yet.
Odd. I know these things as the Wagan F.R.E.D. (Flashing Roadside Emergency Disc). I bought a couple a few years ago and I use them as general emergency lights both inside my car and around the house.
I bought something that looked exactly like these a while back (I can’t remember the brand) but I bought them around 2014 at Fry’s electronics for roughly $30 at the time. They were great but they never lasted. Even without use and just stored the batteries wouldn’t last more than a month, and they used 4 AA batteries and the internals would corrode extremely fast even just stored in the trunk. At the time I was in Silicon Valley so the weather wasn’t extreme by any means. They turned out to be a huge waste of money. In the end all 4 of mine corroded away.
There is a reason why they use a large truck with lots of wheels. So that the wheels they use to run over the product can have about 20% of the recommended tire pressure.
Very cool. I drive an Ebike and I buy the lights that say,”stays bright until battery, need ti be recharged and the ones that say that,’do’. I agree,The Amazon is the better deal.
Also, 7hrs at max brightness, should last you until day time in worst case scenario mode. AND I think Amazon wins out since it's the UNIVERSAL COLOR FOR SAFETY, ORANGE. LIME GREEN/ELECTRIC YELLOW or whatever you want to call that color, is great as a vest, but as a safety marker, not so much. In sun light that's going to get washed out, and on land can blend in with the flora. Hence why we use Orange, very few scenarios where Orange wouldn't work.
The Amazon one probably has a boost converter in it and the other one goes off just batteries. That also means the other is likely goi to fail sooner as when the batteries are free it is probably giving the LEDs more current then they should have.
The lizard does seem a tad brighter and the patterns a bit better but for the price difference its not worth it. Might be the same LED's used by the lizard version circuit board is pushing a bit more power to them to get that brightness and why it goes dimmer sooner.
Idk how I feel trusting an “emergency” item that runs on batteries. The great thing about flares, is that as long as they don’t get wet, and stay out of sunlight, they can just sit there in the trunk for years, batteries not so much. As long as you keep flares dry and sealed they never really expire. I’d be pissed if I needed to use these lights and needed a twelve pack of batteries. Not to mention where I live winter is a thing, and batteries don’t last in the cold, and you can start a fire with flares if you really needed to.
Interesting. I've never seen this on TV but I have seen these in my local hardware store well over a decade ago. I remember because I wanted emergency signals for a car I didn't trust. Dunno the brand name though.
I found one on my road the other day. I was coming down the road at night and I saw a flashing light. I thought it was a bicyclist light but when I came up on it, it was just sitting in the road by itself. At least now I know what it is.. LOL The magnet isn't very strong.
My round emergency light did show in instructions to hold the POWER button to turn it off. I also can just cycle through all the modes and it will turn off after that last one.
The Amazon listing may have been put up in 2018, but I have run across items on Amazon before where the Title and picture were what i was looking for. However the description/specs/etc... were for a completely different product and the comments/reviews were not for the product either. Its like they change the title and picture on that listing to avoid having to make a new one. At least thats my thoughts on it. TLDR: Just because the listing was made in 2018 doesnt mean It was originally for that product.
I charged these up and let them sit for a year. See the results here: ua-cam.com/video/bvLpIvd6lY0/v-deo.html

I got the Amazon version last year for car and they work great. I also bought a set for friend of and she loves it.
I dont suffer from it, but maybe an epilepsy warning in the video because of the flashing lights would be a good idea.
Even for me that was slightly uncomfortable.
Still great video as always! 👍🏼
😩
Definitely agree with you, I too am not affected by blinking lights but I had to avert my eyes during the first test.
I have 2 of these that I think were the original manufacturer? They are in my car full time sitting outside. I have them magnetically attached to the under side of my rear parcel shelf. Eneloops are in them and I take them out once in a while to charge them even though they still work fine. Awesome things to have.
I've used that style long before 2018 even. I have one on the back of my power wheelchair, but also carry a set of the orange ones in my van. I've used them for about 20 years. Bought my first ones at Harbor Freight.
I love your reviews. I see so many things that I think, "Wonder if this is on Freakin' Reviews??"
I bought a "guardian angel elite" off amazon after the add on fb i looked onto them its awsome 🤘 love that its small and usbc rechargeable i can use it for something like this/bike lights or just lighting in general esp if needed in an emergency to be picked up it has an IR strobe 🤙
Wow great video, I didn’t even know anything about these and living in an area with tons of traffic you definitely need something like these to alert others that you are stopped on the side of the road.
Hi James,
Be careful with your give aways. After entering last months giveaway I was contacted by someone claiming to be you. After messaging with them it became clear that it was not you. It was scammers using your name. Just be careful because these guys can really damage your good reputation.
Just a heads up, as I thought you should be aware of this.
Keep up the good work. Really enjoy your reviews.
Just curious......How were you contacted? We do 3 reviews/giveaways a week and have had our share of scammers.
I have also had this experience.
It's funny about 20 years ago, maybe almost 30, I had flashlight flares made by Duracell. They were shaped like flares and had 3 legs when you pulled the legs down, the light came on. I never actually used them but I had them for years. I wonder where they are now?
The problem with products like this, you never know you need them until you have an emergency, but if you never have an emergency, you never use them. I do love the bag for the Amazon one, but do you really need any more than 2?
These should really be rechargeable considering how many there are. They should also make some that double as a power bank.
How many there are... In the world ??? Wym
Energizer lantern makes what you are talking about.
Wow! You are saving quite a bit with the Amazon ones! I've never seen these before. I love them!!!
Interesting review. Thanks. It would have been good to see how the magnets worked. I assume it’s so you can place on your car if your stuck out on the roads in the middle of the night. Do they actually stay in place or do they do the slow slide of death?
I really like the amazon vs as seen on tv, it's a great video concept! I know you've done some real vs knock off versions too, would love to see more of those as well!
I just saw the infomercial for the lizard flare and came right to your channel to see if there was a review for this yet lol I’m totally getting the Amazon one now, thanks!
I was wondering about this. I am sure glad you did all the work for us in comparing these two electronic flare. Thanks!!
Nice, just thought about what to watch and you uploaded!
Always look forward to seeing you and your family (furry included) in the reviews, they are so informative and entertaining. Please keep the reviews coming. Enjoy your day. Love and hugs from Iowa.
I would also choose the Amazon one because it comes with a case for the product for a lower price
The problem with the Amazon's choice one is that Amazon in general is an extremely greedy company. The point of Amazon choice is literally to copy an existing company's products, especially a small company, remove any proper advertising for the original and then bump Amazon basics products to the top of the search page. They single-handedly crush small companies chances at making money. It's disgusting, and if you can afford to buy brand name for a more unknown product like this, do it. Don't buy Amazon basics and continue to fund the biggest retailer in the world before funding small businesses
And I should also mention, Amazon does lie about when products were made to do this more effectively. They also blow the reviews and ratings out of proportion. Serious, look this stuff up. Save some money if you need to, but Amazon is a pretty tyrannical company
@@superdoesings2416 : bla bla bla ... so HERE you are AGAIN, after cutting-and-pasting this clueless comment about Amazon's greed ... get over it ... Americans REWARD great value in a product, REGARDLESS of who sells it to us! Jeez, hasn't your mommy called down to you in the basement to turn off your TV and go to sleep since it's past 9 p.m.???
The mile test would’ve been the perfect time to use that emergency whistle you tested a while ago. Brandon whistle if you can see me.
The "visible from a mile away" claim is slightly deceptive because human eyes are sensitive enough to see a lit matchstick from about a mile away on a clear dark night.
Usually a product that is branded, get sold as an unbranded product. But it's the product. The factory that produces it sells it to others cheaper. Bought a card knife for 50 cents from ebay and the branded one was 15 dollars.
I’d like some for the kids to play catch with in the dark. Unless I missing the mark they’d have a ball (pun intended) playing with them.
We use those kind of lights in airsoft for point capture where there's 2 metal plates 1 for the other team and 1 for the other and you have to put the light on your teams plate to count points
Tried using those with my work. They work ok new. But once weathered, in the sun and rain snow, not so good. Not very water proof or resistant. So, if its pouring rain and you have to use them. Better with a regular flare
I really like those comparisons. My preferred format honsetly.
I most likely dont need this lol but i stayed for the quality of the review. I know sometimes the cheap imitations or off brand stuff are often hit or miss and its nice to see a non biased and thorough review since most review channels often do them because they are sponsored or something. This is my 1st vid here but i definitely hope to see others for other neato things i might find use for!!
Looks pretty useful! I do have to wonder how correct that starting date on Amazon is though, as I have heard a lot about scammers reusing old product pages (and reviews), replacing the text and pictures with new ones for completely different products.
Yes, I've seen this on Amazon, it's very confusing when the old reviews and photos are for a completely different product.
The point of having 6 is to outline your car so you don’t get hit.
I have seen them used on another youtube channel with a tow company, have not yet had any myself, I do have the big old triangle folding reflectors.
I purchased two 3 packs of the Amazon ones, put two in my wife’s car, 2 in my son’s car and two in my SUV….less dangerous than flares and most suitable for night applications!
I like the red Amazon once since it has a case which makes it easier to store and transport. Assume the magnets worked ok on both.
You did a freeze test, but what about heat? If they're supposed to be in your car at all times, how do they handle summer? I think being in Vegas, you'd be able to really show their limits.
I had the orange versions before 2018. I think i bought them at tsc
Another great review. Cool emergency lights! 👍
1:37 Both are probably manufactured in the same factory 😄
I’m curious about the the internals, like if they’re identical inside.
Very cheaply made.
My sister got a pack on Amazon and gave her siblings each one and one of her friends and our Mom one for Christmas. So I do have one in the car. I had no need to use it and hopefully I don't, but every the light if I needed it, I would have it. I also have a rechargeable head lamp in the car. Sometimes you need light at night! 😁
As usual I have missed the free giveaway but that's not a problem because I already have an entire set of the Amazon ones. You are the greatest! Your UA-cam page is also the first thing I go for when I turn on UA-cam. So thank you very much for your expert advice. It has saved me a lot of money. Not in this particular case but in this particular case the Amazon product worked great for you. And, the Amazon product and your review you told me I need to buy batteries lol.
Great review but I hoped you'd test the water resistance.
i've actually had those amazon ones saved in my amazon wish list for about a year now! maybe now i'll have to break down and actually buy them
This was some mighty fine comparing!
Wow I've had the Amazon one for 3 years now and this is the best review! Ty bud!
I'm so glad to see a current video. I'm new to your channel and I've watching videos 2-3-4 years old.
When your tire rolled over the lights, each one had their power buttons held down, thats why they turned off lol
Get the free light at Harbor freight which is magnetic. I’ve used it and it’s got me out of trouble twice.
I put lithium AAA batteries in the ones I have suppose to have a 20 year shelf life so they should be good to go if left in the car for years.
Get yourself a red Gran Torino with a white stripe and you can have a Starsky and Hutch moment with these things.
The ones identical to the orange ones have been sold in truck stops for about $12-$13 apiece for over a decade.
WOW! I did a review on the HOKENA LED Safety Emergency Lights over three years ago, so these aren't new by any stretch of the imagination, LOL!
PowerFlares have been around for decades.
Nice, I like the side-by-side reviews.
Interesting. I've never seen this on TV but I have seen these in my local hardware store well over a decade ago. I remember because I wanted emergency signals for a car I didn't trust. Dunno the brand name though.
The bag it came w had my sold from the beginning
Very practical gadgets but I could seem them used for more entertaining purposes. Like for a rock band
Also would be good for raves and "molly" types of psychedelic-based parties too!
@@ZugBug27 Yeah, they would.
Hi Freakin, The bag it came w had my sold from the beginning :)
The lizard flare looks brighter to me overall
I found one on my road the other day. I was coming down the road at night and I saw a flashing light. I thought it was a bicyclist light but when I came up on it, it was just sitting in the road by itself. At least now I know what it is.. LOL The magnet isn't very strong.
My round emergency light did show in instructions to hold the POWER button to turn it off. I also can just cycle through all the modes and it will turn off after that last one.
Lizard flare had a quicker spinning strobe effect.
I bought a similar one from Duluth Trading Company. They don’t sell it any more but sell a Michelin one now.
Projecting red light to the front of the vehicle can get you in trouble with the cops in a lot of places.
I just can't picture a situation where i would need these.
