  • My name is Austin, this is Mopar Garage, and we build cool stuff in here! Today we are digging into the 1973 Plymouth Satellite and starting to make it a little more unique and personalized! We've gotta make it look cool before we dig into some of the tinkering needed to get it back on the road. If you can't beat 'em, dazzle 'em!

The black hood looks good. Way back when...my first car was a 1972 Dodge Coronet. Traditionally a family sedan at that point in its design, but the guy I bought it from had given it a muscle car style with primer gray paint, converted it over to a A833 4-spd manual and a warmed over 318 with 360 heads and intake off a Dodge Diplomat Police Interceptor...which used a Rochester Q-jet for some reason that year. It had a nice tone to it with dual exhaust and a nice rake with a set of Keystone Classics with BFG 245's in the rear and 215's in front with a similar stance. Was always the plan to give it a flat black six-pack hood and drop in a big block. Had a bead on a nice 413 Wedge, but that deal fell through. I parked it in our northeast winters a tooled around in a Plymouth Turismo or Daytona CS...as you can imagine not a great winter car. Much like yourself couldn't afford my favorite B-bodies even at that point as was in college. That was before they really started blowing up in price (I couldn't even snag a nice 70 GTO for $6500!!), these days you have to add another digit in the price to even get a trainwreck these days. Unlike today it was before you could get fresh steel to fix the rot too. Unfortunately had to trade it off to a guy who had a 91 Dakota V8 as my 93 Shadow ES blew its tranny and I needed a vehicle to get me around in the NE winters...and wasn't about to trade or sell off my 87 Shelby Z and didn't have the means or garage space to give it the proper treatment, as you can imagine not a lot of aftermarket Sheetmetal and the like to restore a 4-door B-body. These days I scan the hills around where I traded it off and keep my eye on Craigslist hoping it's back for sale and I can finish what I started 30 years ago!! Or maybe pick up a 71-72 Roadrunner!! Good luck with your 73, looking good...my vote is for a big block! 😁.

I remember my shop teacher in high school (early 2000's) bought a beautiful 1970 Challenger with a 440 in Hemi Orange for $9,000....and he had to think about it! Crazy, that would be a six figure car today. I am leaning towards the 440 for this car more and more myself. A 360 would be cheaper, easier, and more plug and play, but a 440 would be a whole lot cooler.

Projects make more projects, lol it never ends. The Plymouth would be bloody awesome as a 440 🔥

Haha it’s an addiction! Stay tuned, there’s definitely a 440 in the future of this car!

Dude go to Harbor Freight and get yourself the purple spray gun… then UA-cam the how to adjust it. The gun will make you look like a professional !!!

I’ve definitely thought about it! Especially after seeing some of the projects that Vice grip garage does with it.

What's the plan for the roof? Or secret till the next video?

No plan for now. Just going to apply patina saver to the whole car. The only way I can think to change it would be to re-install the green vinyl top (which I actually do have 😂) or paint the whole car. I think it’s really cool that it appears to be almost all original paint, so I’m just going to embrace the patina.

Hood pins? Your missing the big ugly rubber bummer pads. Don't look right with out them ?

Definitely missing the hood pins! I actually have the original rubber bumper stops in the trunk. Also have the vinyl top still believe it or not! 😂
