I'm turning 40 this year, and I fight it, too. I appreciate that many women embrace aging, and we're all different, like you said, but I don't appreciate the people who shame others for wanting to fight the aging process. If I want to put a lot of effort into my looks, that's my business, but I do miss it being effortless like it was in my 20s! No covering grays, no spending money on lasers and injectables, etc. Now, it's a lot of effort to look my best, but it's still worth it to me 😊

Jenifer, I Love these car chats. It’s unbelievable how relatable these topics are to what I have been thinking lately. You helped me just by being able to hear someone else that I respect verbalize my current thoughts. Thank you. You are beautiful outwardly obviously but you are truly beautiful inwardly too. You are such an authentic soul. Unfortunately that’s a rarity these days. Blessings to you and you family. ~Love&Light♥️Carli

My parents also had me at age 18 and 20! I had my son at age 29 and my daughter at 33. I am a worrier as well. I think it’s all in how we choose to look at things regarding age. Yes we get older and change and it’s not always easy, but at the same time it’s a blessing. You gain wisdom and it allows one to learn to embrace those changes if one allows. I won’t pretend it’s always easy, but I always try to look at the alternative. We can do our best to look and feel good as we age but being able to let go a little and realize we had our time being young and now we have different things to put our energy into instead of getting down about our looks, because there’s so much more to us. Life is short and watching my father suffer now for two months in the hospital (he’s back in from a short stay at rehab) has really put things into more of a perspective for myself. Being able to be flexible, and do all the things we tend to take for granted really come into play and worrying about getting older and looking older just doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things for myself. Sorry I’ll get off my soapbox,
I had my son when I was 25 and my parents had us when they were 23. I agree, it seems so young! My son will be 31 this year, unreal to me. I really enjoy this style of video Jenifer and hope you do more.❤️

    • @JeniferJenkinsBeauty
      @JeniferJenkinsBeauty  8 місяців тому +2

Oh 100%! Looks is just a small portion of all of the changes that come along with aging. Navigating through ALL of the changes at once is the tricky part. Our parents get older and need us a little more, our children become independent and need us a little less, our health becomes more of a concern (as well as our parent's health), our hormones begin to mess with us and the way that we feel from day to day. There just seems to be a lot to unpack and sort out all at once. But like you, I feel that aging (living) is blessing of course, and I actually look forward to becoming a grandparent one day. 👵 And I try my best to keep a good attitude throughout the process, but some of it is just for the birds. Lol!
I pray that your dad continues to make progess and is able to get out of the hospital and return to living a happy healthy life. ❤🥰

Jenifer, I use Benefit High Brow very sparingly on my lower tight line after I've dried my eye rim with a Q tip or a finger. This is undetectable but makes a big difference. Too heavy bottom tightening is too much of a good thing. And I LOVE Lumify Blue eyedrops. Also MAC White Frost sparingly on the inner eye.

I am so glad you don’t do a lot of sponsorships. I still use the pink Clinique Toner # 3 with salicylic acid. I use it for my face, neck and hands. You are 100% correct about fashion. Don’t be a fashion victim. It’s all about the money. When something is fashionable like baggy pants, there are other things that flatter your figure that are also in style. I learned in junior high baggy pants are not for curvy girls with hips. I don’t think men love that look on a woman either. I love an “old money” type of preppy style which is more classic, but I put my own twist on it fashion wise. Tweaking certain things can prevent you from looking outdated, but you have to make it your own that works best with your own personal aesthetic.

Your current age is more beautiful than as 20. To be beautiful at 50 takes internal and external. This radiates even more than previously because it is earned, not given. Grape juice is sweet, but wine has more value, flavor, depth, beauty, and quality notes. One revels in wine and appreciated during treasured moments. Look at a vintage car that has been treasured as it drives down the street and compare to a new car. Though, it is very different as you mentioned than a new car and more work to maintain… but better. Great job!

I am 53 this year and was in the high end fashion industry as a general manager and personal stylist and completely agree that the industry will push trends to keep a profit margin. I also agree that many trends are flat out ugly and unflattering on anyone period.... however understanding what is most flattering for a body type is important. I have a similar shape to you with larger breasts, small waist and I am 5'8 tall ... a open v neck style gives a flattering illusion of a more balanced overall look....its about balance and being put together. The open v neck will make the chest area not so prominent and more balanced with the rest of our body.
I also believe in making sure we have a easy yet put together look. A nice necklace (maybe a pretty quality piece the is everyday - which equals easy!) A lovely layering piece (think stylish blazer that could be worn with anything including favorite jeans or topper or fitted vest).
As a side note at my age... again turning 53 this year, I get the most compliments when I wear my hair down and it is long at about 8-10 inches past shoulder length ( I got 2 compliments today at work from customers...one from an older man and one from an older woman). The female who complimented me specifically pointed out that the other day when she met me I had my hair in a up do and that she did not know my hair is long but she " loves it down and flowing! And my male customer complimented the fresh lighter blond touch up and the over all style (which honestly boosted my mood because I had dry shampoo spray in it and on day 4 after my last real shampoo and style so I went to work wondering about my hair being presentable for a polished business look) 😊 I received 2 compliments from totally unrelated male and female about not only wearing my hair down (its about 20 inches long) but also the color of my blonder highlights :) made me very happy and confident in my style choices at my age!!

I was just talking about this with one of my friends. I am 62 and I still have those irrational fears now it’s not about just the kids and my parents are gone but now I worry about my spouse and myself who’s gonna go first I pray we go together, I don’t wanna see the day without him. Are we gonna be a burden all those crazy thoughts! I’m glad you said something

Yes the topic of trends with fashion! I’m not into baggy things or crop tops unless I’m working out or the pool but I don’t think even with abs .. it looks good on many after like 18-24 years it’s just crazy how uncomfortable I would be wearing those things unless it was just my husband and I it’s hard to find longer shirts that are just plain nothing baggy or cropped but fitted and normal looking in my mind

You are so cute! I am 52, get HRT because without it, I am insane and my anxiety is through the roof. I just lost my dad and my kids are all out of state and in college. One thing that has helped me so much, and I feel it goes along with prayer and spirituality is meditation. I use Insight Timer and listen to water in the background and breathe. Try to let go of all thoughts for 20 minutes (I had to start with 5 and work my way up - it is hard to sit still!!). It is so effective and by the end I feel like I have had a glass of wine or Xanax because my mind is able to let go now. Doing it every day - especially at night - helps me sleep in peace. It reduces cortisol and other stress hormones as well.
Can you do a video on your gorgeous smile? Your teeth look amazing. You can tell people with veneers have such different teeth on the bottom than the top but yours look so pretty and they match!!! ☺ I’m editing my comment to say I am not saying you have veneers, I am saying whatever you do or don’t do looks natural and beautiful! Overthinking here!

I totally think about my aging parents constantly and the thought of them not being here someday is just the most shattering feeling in the world. My dad was 40 when he had me and I am now 40. ( my dad is 80:/) I have a baby girl who just turned 5 months! And now I think about not being here for her someday. Ugh, these depressing thoughts!

Hi Jennifer. Just a side note I cringe when I see people put any liner in their water lines. I used to do it for a short time. But if anyone has ever had blepharitis that will change your mind. The oil gland in the margin of the eyes get clogged. I have had 2 surgeries to get them unclogged and the numbing aspect in this minor surgery is painful! Even the doctor warned me it would be. It would probably be comparison to going to the dentist without getting your gums numbed before you're stuck with a needle. So, no liner of any kind in these eyes!
My youngest niece and oldest is your age. To me she seems like my baby even though I was only 16 when she was born. My husband and I had my first daughter when I was20, next daughter at almost 23 and the last at 26. It was hectic but being young myself you just kind of grow up with them. Now they range from 41 through 46. They have given us 6 granddaughters and now one great granddaughter. No regrets having children young!
Yesterday, so to speak, I was your age. That's how fast it goes and there is no stopping it. I do the best to self-care, but I hope more importantly my children will be able to someday look back at my life and say, "She was the best mother there ever was". My mother passed away at my age and in my brother's distraught that was the first thing he said at her passing. That is more of a legacy than to have them to say, she looked so young for her age, or she was such a pretty mother. Health is the most important thing so that I hopefully can live independently for as long as possible.
Have a great upcoming week, Jennifer!

That’s what makes you a good mother and then at the end of the day you think you are not a good mother. One person said if you are worried if you are not a good mother.:: a bad mother does not worry about that.

Aging is a reminder from God that we only have so much time. Our parents (and others around us) dying ahead of us is too. Masking our age is not helpful to our own spirit, or to others. I believe it is better to show the world that we accept aging and death, but we can only do that when we are not afraid. If you are afraid of death, or if you love your life and the things of the world so much that you'd like to stay forever, you are in trouble spiritually. Let the aging prompt you to cry out to God to help you have a heart that welcomes the death of the physical/temporal. He does not want you to reject or run from your fear, or to mask or push away the reminders. The reminders are there to prompt you to deal with Him before the time runs out. We cannot die loving our lives and the world! "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." 1 John 2:15 "Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life." John 12:25

So I’ve a actually used a white or nude eye pencil in my waterline for about 15 years or so (I’m a young 41), and I love the effect it gives - I really do find that it makes my appear eyes larger, more open or awake. Large eyes are generally associated with youth as well 👍 I am quite fair so I can use the white, but if you have a deeper skin tone or a tan, I highly recommend a nude shade🙂
Side note - I tried the Carols Daughter shampoo and conditioner from one of your recent suggestions, and it’s amazing!!! I normally buy salon products but my hair has not been behaving lately- thank you so much for the recommendation ❤

I still look great have 7 grandkids and love my babies and have a great time with them! True about the trends I don't follow them I to wear what I like and makeup the same what looks good on me that way we make life easier not harder on us! You look great like always love your hair! I lost my mom in 2017 and my dad 3 weeks ago the hardest thing ever but they lived a good life my mom was 87 and my dad 94 😢 it's so true after 40 you start thinking about dying and who is going to love your kids like you, when your 50 you have pain here and there and people your age are dying then when you hit 60 things really change you have something and you run to the doctor and you say I don't want to die yet, I havd kids and grandchildren your mind goes all over the place it's crazy! Now I'm 65 and I'm not as fast as I use to be i would clean my house with my eyes closed now I take my time and stop to rest lol my goodness how things change 😅 no I still color my hair blonde like I always did and I havd my grandchildren and still go do my nails and my pedicures that I'm not ready to give up I worked in the Medical Field for 40 and I miss work I should have never stoped but that's life now it's just enjoy retirement lol 😂 which I wish I was 40 and stop there that was my best time!

50 is a crucial age for both genders, but more for women. Our bodies start to decay, because we are no longer able to have children so our body wants to send us out to pasture. The only way stay younger and healthier is to exercise (weight lifting) and live a healthy lifestyle. Doing this sends messages to our cells to produce younger cells and that slows down the aging process. 70% of diseases people over 50 have were caused by an unhealthy lifestyle for the first 30 years of their life. Without modern medication millions of people would be dead right now. Fountain of youth isnt in a pill. Its in exercising 6 days a week. Eating healthy, and surrounding yourself with good people that love you. Jennifer, you're doing a job at preserving yourself. You will make a good looking grandma one day😉
