"I need to get an attorney" in this case is almost certainly a last-second Hail Mary pass to try to change what is happening. It's not a flex and it's not a threat and it didn't work.
@jdranetz who cares about late, If he's truly told the everything, put the money in escrow, the city warning of the issues, maybe there's a way to sue for damages. If he told the truth, I hope he can.

It was nice to see and such s breath of fresh air from the male judge (I can't remember his name now but he had a ponytail) who let's these cases drag out for months and years at the property owners expense.

100% I love seeing no nonsense judges. They get to the point quick instead of letting things drag on, screwing people over and forcing them to take time off of work cause people want to be difficult.

At first I thought maybe she'd had a stroke or something, her mouth was crooked and her eyes droopy and her affect was so off, she also didn't seem fazed by the 60 days either.

I have zero sympathy for that woman. Quite apart from it only being a chance that she hadn't killed people, she's drinking heavily while being a single parent. BUT I have to acknowledge that your little kids can get illnesses that go on for ever. And you usually get sick too.

Whenever my daughter caught a really savage Upper Respiratory Tract Infection before 1st grade age, it would easily last for a month.
These days LOTS of schools will not let you bring a child in if they are still in germ spreading mode. That means no, er, rampant mucus, or really bad coughing. So even if the fever has passed, they're still not allowed back.
When they're little, they usually accidently spread the germs to their eyes too, and that's another huge No No for schools these days. Those are so contagious.
If you're a single parent it's a real problem. Most low wage/low skill level jobs, they just sack you for being out that long.
My mother had 4 children, and in the first 10 years of her marriage she rarely did not have at least one child sick in bed at home.
When my daughter was in 2nd grade, her poor teacher had this problem She had a son in 1st grade, in the same school. He got one of those typical brutal childhood UTIs. It went on so long, she ended up essentially hiding him in her classroom, in a corner, on some mats with blankets over him.
She didn't know what else to do.
Fortunately it was a poor area...I don't mean it was fortunate that people were poor....so the parents of the students understood that she was trying really hard to make it through life. So no one threw a hissy fit about having the sick child in the corner. The next school my daughter went to was in a very wealthy area (I was lowering the tone); the parents there complained about EVERYTHING.
"WHO quits their job because their child has the flu??" My sister quits her jobs when she wakes up and doesn't feel like working anymore. It's super-helpful when Mommy's checkbook is always there to come to the rescue. BTW, she's 67 and Mommy is 92 and this has been going on for forty years+.

See cases like this all the time. It is too damaged to pay rent to live there, and it is making them sick but not enough to leave. I think they seem to plan on suing to try and get some kind of payout.

I lived in a place that had black mold I spent so much time in the hospital. I just wanted out of the lease, I couldn't get out of the lease but was able to get the money I paid to get the house treated for the mold. Which ended up being more than the cost of getting out of the lease. The landlord was so mad. The one and lost. My lawyer laughed because they had to pay me for that plus court cost and lawyers fees. Plus hospital bills. If they had just let me out of the lease then none the extra money would have had to be paid to me. They lost 20,000 vs 5,000. The judge did point that out to them.
They're trying to use it as an excuse to not pay rent. Most of them exaggerate the condition and avoid them, so they can't fix it hoping they'll get out of paying their rent.
I would not go against Ms. Luckoff without legal representation.
I'd feel nervous going before her WITH legal representation!

If you have black mold, your ceiling in the kitchen leaks, problems with the shower, etc, then why havent you moved?? Why are you fighting to stay?? Makes no sense.
When a workman came, he refused him because he wasn't licensed.

They just want an excuse not to pay rent. They overly exaggerate the situation and then avoid the landlord and workers, so they can say it hasn't been fixed and hopefully not pay their rent.
It's the same thing in every case.

exactly... I dont think she has any remorse for what she did. I believe with her attitude and lack of self awareness, that she will drive drunk again. I hope and pray im wrong...but its just like what the judge said, it's everyone else's fault but her own.
I have a feeling she is drunk or high during this hearing. I think that’s why she has no visible reaction to 2 months in jail. Maybe it’s just she has burnt out so many brain cells that she has no reaction to anything.
Yeah her face was like, wavy? I dunno how to describe it. It also seemed the way her hair was that she was trying to hide a face injury.
I hate drunk drivers my brother was killed by a drunk driver. He left behind a beautiful little girl. She has grown up without a daddy that adored her. The drunk driver killed my brother and another lady who had an 18 month old son. He only got 10 yrs in prison and then only spent 6 yrs of that in prison. He killed two people in their early 20's with babies. Those babies had to grow up without their parents. He should have gotten 10 yrs each of them for a total of 20 at the minimum. He gave them a life sentence. He only lost 6 yrs of his life. Disgusting.

I reckon he doesn't want to pay the 5800 that was in the conditional dismissal.
I think he will have a hard time suing them regarding the damages during that time period aswell, because the time to fight that would have been at the hearing that he waived by the dismissal.
Best case for him, for sues them, they counter sue, he probably ends up paying some portion of the 5800 plus attorney fees
He kept referring to the property as “his house”. That’s the problem that’s not his house. Very few adults get live for free.
So true. Even as a home owner- my house is officially the bank's house until I pay off my mortgage and get my title deed. Thank the Lord, I only have around 5 years to go and my home will be paid off!!!

I’ve never been able to wrap my head around tenants complaining about the horrible condition of the property they live in but then try every legal maneuver to keep from being evicted.

When my husband and i evicted his mother, she left a bunch of stuff in our garage. Most of it was just junk to took out of peoples garbage, she was a hoarder. We reached out to her several times and she refused to reply. In my state after 30 days we had the legal right to get ride of her stuff. We waited 2 years. Messaged her several times. And when we finally just threw the junk away we get a nasty message from her telling us she was going to sue us and we would lose everything. She never did sue. She is just crazy.

I’ve had a sleazy apartment/home management. Who wouldn’t fix things no matter how many work orders were sent. Then when I moved out, they made up “damages” and “unpaid rent owed” and tried to take my deposit plus asked for More! I had not experienced the legal proceedings and processes. I definitely Did not have money for a lawyer! I did however find a friend of a friend. Went to court and got my deposit back and didn’t pay anything else.
