The fact that they made "The Riddler" a terrifying character is so good. And for a thriller investigation/action kind of movie, he was the perfect villain to create the dillemmas Bruce was cracking his head to solve. Paul Dano and Robert Pattinson were absolutely amazing in their roles.
I love that I loved the Riddler. But as soon as I learned Dano was playing the role, there was no doubt Reeves was going to find a way to dig out those dark places that man can go. The movie is fantastic, but Batman fans are going to love it even more.

It's in top 5 for sure, but one things definite, the first 10 minutes of this film is unparalleled in the superhero industry. What an amazing entry, what splendid acting. This was my first Batman movie in theatre and wow it really exceeded expect.
I have mixed feelings even though I really liked the movie. On the one hand, Dano killed it. He has a talent for playing unhinged characters, and this was no exception. But I still think that this Riddler is too familiar. He is too similar to Heath Ledger's Joker. Both are deranged serial killer/anarchist revolutionaries who view Batman as their equal and seek to defeat him. It felt like a blend of The Dark Knight with elements of Seven. Just my opinion, but I think it would have been better to depict the Riddler as a brilliant ex-CIA intelligence officer with advanced tech as opposed to a creepy orphaned serial killer nerd. I just prefer to have a bit of distinction with Batman's various opponents.

@@quentinjones6877 That may have made it exciting. I love Batman movies but this put half the theatre to sleep this evening. The movie is ok but it has np business being almost 3hrs long.
This Riddler reminds me so much of Ted Raimi’s acting in “Skinner” . His overall behavior in this film; his voice was grim and peculiar just liked Ted’s. Definitely an amazingly terrifying version of The Riddler.
Reeves said he based much of the Riddler's persona and cryptic clues on the real life Zodiac Killer. And the way he talks and the codes he leaves definitely makes him a bona fide serial killer similar to how Joker (2019) made Arthur Fleck a tragic figure that succumbs to madness after society treats them like crap like most mass killers.
This is a brilliant film. The Arkham scene with Batman and the Riddler was incredible. I couldn’t take my eyes off Paul Dano. The more grounded and grittier depiction of the Batman universe was perfect. It’s even better on second viewing.
His expressions from asylum window, when those 7 explosions happen, were bone chilling. Also, Ave Maria and that moment when he finds out Batman, isn"t on his side, were so captivating.
I loved this one scene in the beginning where one of the thugs is looking down a dark hallway where the Batman isn't there but he thinks he is so he stumbles around trying to get away from it. Even though this Batman is just starting out he's already striking fear in the hearts of criminals on a very psychological level, as if the very shadows themselves are a manifestation of the Dark Knight.
It's amazingly amazing. I'm sad that the movie ended, because theatres just give another feel. Watching it on phone won't give the same feeling, maybe I'll get tickets and rewatch it again tomorrow. This movie is just everything
cant believe people are actually saying this film is too dark…like what were they expecting?? a Clooney era Batman with stupid dialogues and….the bat nipple?? lol this film is a masterpiece, if anyone thinks otherwise, they gotta read a damn batman comics asap
I feel like they were using the Nolan’s version. It feels like there’s Nolan’s inspiration in every part of this movie. Personally I think Nolan did it better.
If someone complained about the movie being too dark I don't know what they thought they was gonna happen. It was pretty obvious this was gonna be a dark movie
The mayor’s death was way more terrifying than the commissioner’s. Brutal, animalistic, and REALISTIC. Really hard to watch, and that’s something I never say
my friend that’s obsessed with the comics didn’t like the movie and I’ll probably never go see a superhero film with him again cause he ruined it for me
Nah, Batman is a hero that deserves to be enjoyed by both youngsters and adults alike, if it wasn't for that he wouldn't have been my favorite superhero since I was a kid thanks to Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan, they both managed to deliver a dark Batman but still not violent enough so younger audiences could enjoy it. You want an R-rated batman? There are plenty of comic books and animated movies which will suffice, in fact there's enough to spare.
This movie most likely would have broken a shit ton of records for R-rated releases if they went through with it, but I bet releasing it PG-13 will make the studio more money in the long run
I love how everyone initially was like ' how could they do this to Riddler?? ' ' this isn't the Riddler ' But after seeing this guy's character, absolutely blew my mind And I'm sure he blew everyone else's minds

Dano, in my opinion, played the most comically accurate Riddler throughout all of the live action movies/shows. He's more strategic, and doesn't make as many jokes. There wasn't a comedic relief from his Riddler like in most versions of the Riddler. He had everything planned, and even if there was a slight flaw in said plan, he took notice and immediately did something about it. The movie was absolutely amazing. All of the actors did an incredible job portraying the characters.
For me it was the D.A. at the funeral scene... stakes were already high, then Paul Dano, his voice, his countdown... enough to send chills down your spine and the stress level went through the roof. Anyone else expect Batman to be able to save him? That was a WTF moment
*Paul Dano's Riddler is psychotic as hell. He is a narcissist, completely deranged, genius and defiant with Batman (who is originally from the comic book character). Probably in the next movie he will wear the classic costume. What scares him is that he's the most realistic version of the character, and he may exist in real life (although there are several that resemble him in some way. Like Jeffrey Dahmer or Zodiac Killer.)*

I don't think it went too far 🤷♂️ Too far in my opinion would be depicting the rats burrowing into the man's face while he was still and forcing the people who unfortunately had popcorn to watch that
I mean does anyone actually think that Batman is all rainbows and sunshine? He dresses in black and most of Batman’s enemies are brutal and are supposed to take a more realistic role in the comic books and in live action films, they are mentally Ill patients, serial killers and underground mob bosses and you expect them to not take it to these lengths? People are sensitive and honestly this is how you know they don’t know Batman that well either
For me the scene that went shocked me was the situation with the Commissioner, you know if you know. The scene that creeped me out was the final convo with Batman, I saw that and said “that’s Edward nigma” I closed my eyes and could see him voice the riddler in the Arkham series very well
Paul Dano was so good here! He was perfect for this darker, scarier take on the Riddler as I knew he would be. I would love to see more of him in future movies if that's possible!
Just saw it today. I thought Paul over-acted his voice and cringed at the screaming. Riddler was great but I felt that he needed a creepier voice to match lol
It's honestly perfect. Batman's villains are sadistic and dark, wanting to bring an entire city down or into their control. The rat torture method is much more realistic and capable of displaying how horrible the villains can be instead of just doing some silly "Batman tied up over a vat of acid" thing. Btw the Riddlers performance in the movie is incredible
It's irritating that anything in this movie is considered "going too far." It was done perfectly to do justice to the characters. Personally, I wouldn't have minded an "R" rating to allow even more freedom with it's production.
At the beginning of the movie when the mayor is being murdered when riddler is ontop of the mayors body I was having worries that they were gonna go to fare and include a R$%pe scene
I didn't think Heath Ledger performance as The Joker could be surpassed the actor who played The Riddler deserves an Oscar he brought a "silence to the lamb" element to that character. He was absolutely brilliant
I also really like that you very rarely see Bruce Wayne in the movie and most of the time batman is the one solving crime, its also hilighted when the riddler says that the real him is the one when he's wearing the mask
This is the most twisted version of the Riddler yet, and I love it! when unmasked, he almost looks like something out of Harry Potter, or a dark high school story, though. But I enjoyed the Riddler in this movie.
Riddler was terrifying but they did what venom 2 did to achieve the PG-13 rating. They barely showed anything and made it all conveniently blurred/implied. Just like Carnage was made more kid friendly they seemingly did this to not make it too dark. Heck, the people that get shot in the movie never even see the impact of it. People just fall like an old movie.
The rat scene was unexpected. But I loved it. The Jim Carrey riddler was just goofy. Funny and quotable, but goofy. This riddler was terrifying. Truly did the character justice.
As much as I liked this film, this was the creepiest Superhero Film I’ve ever seen. For the reason that someone like “this” Riddler could exist in the real world. As a child, I only saw cartoons and read comics, so the creepiness factor was at an all time low.
No that's not it. I told you 40 times what it was. Why won't you listen??!! Why are you so insolent?? It's EXACTLY what I told you it was. Don't say that to me. If you say that, it's the end. Don't say it. I BEG you not to bring this on yourself. THERE! THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!! YOU'VE DONE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't me. It wasn't me. YOU are the one that brought this on. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
@@viscoselight2348 but they aren’t making a prequel. And Joker was literally in one scene, a scene which was intended to set up Joker as the next villain.
@@Delete240 They are making a few prequel spin offs (such as the GCPD Tv show) Matt Reeves (the director) has openly come out and said that just because Joker is in the movie doesn't mean he is gonna be the villain in the sequel (he has expressed interest in other people). Joker very well could be the villain in something else.
But then who would expect most to have ever heard of or read "The Copper Bowl" by George Fielding Elliot, which it is apparent (at least to me) this scene borrows directly from or is an homage to, describing the same sort of death torture far more gruesomely, performed on a woman. I would even think that the scene might have originally been written for a female character in the film to mimic that story more closely but would've been that much farther over the top. As for "going too far" no such Batman villain has been written for film to that extreme, since the intentions of every film version of such a villain has been clear, even Ledger's Joker, a villain whose acts and intentions in fact are _not supposed to make sense to anyone but himself._ We're not supposed to see the Joker coming or know why...that is what makes batman's arch villains so scary, that their motivations are so pointless and petty, Batman himself being only a scapegoat for horrific acts having no real rhyme or reason. That's _why_ Joker and Riddler are in Arkham Asylum. They're not common criminals; they're _crazy._
It was alright. It was cliche, couldn’t remember who was flooponi or whatever and it’s difficult to take a guy who dresses up as a bat seriously. That said the film was enjoyable

I agree and this is awesome
If people feel the Batman is too dark then I suggest a safe space back over at marvel
This is a brilliant film. The Arkham scene with Batman and the Riddler was incredible. I couldn’t take my eyes off Paul Dano. The more grounded and grittier depiction of the Batman universe was perfect. It’s even better on second viewing.
I think it did not go to far, i think things like this make it even darker and more fitting for a batman story
no one thought it went too far looper just full of BS.
His expressions from asylum window, when those 7 explosions happen, were bone chilling. Also, Ave Maria and that moment when he finds out Batman, isn"t on his side, were so captivating.
The opening scene of striking fear into the criminals of Gotham really was amazing
YESSSUHHHHH such a great intro into the mindset of bruce and the whole film as a whole.
That was peak batman
I loved this one scene in the beginning where one of the thugs is looking down a dark hallway where the Batman isn't there but he thinks he is so he stumbles around trying to get away from it. Even though this Batman is just starting out he's already striking fear in the hearts of criminals on a very psychological level, as if the very shadows themselves are a manifestation of the Dark Knight.

I watched the movie today and I can confirm, it was a wonderful movie. Enjoyed every second of it.
I like how this felt like an R-Rated Batman movie. I think Matt Reeves wanted it to be, but he did as much as he could with a PG-13 Rating.
For me it was the D.A. at the funeral scene... stakes were already high, then Paul Dano, his voice, his countdown... enough to send chills down your spine and the stress level went through the roof. Anyone else expect Batman to be able to save him? That was a WTF moment
I yelled so loud when that happened. Horrific shit
I haven’t seen one person say that scene went too far. Lol.
Looper likes to make shitty videos like these to try and make controversy
*Paul Dano's Riddler is psychotic as hell. He is a narcissist, completely deranged, genius and defiant with Batman (who is originally from the comic book character). Probably in the next movie he will wear the classic costume. What scares him is that he's the most realistic version of the character, and he may exist in real life (although there are several that resemble him in some way. Like Jeffrey Dahmer or Zodiac Killer.)*
Yeah that opening scene was straight up scary. Definitely got my heart beating.
FUN FACT The Riddler had deathtraps and played mind games in THE ANIMATED SERIES !! The animated series Riddler came out before SAW (jigsaw) & se7en !!! I would say for the "LOOK" they went for a more modern serial killer styled updated HUSH costume ! The CALENDERMAN is more like ZODIAC KILLER !
Court of Owls will be a part of the 3rd movie cause Matt wants Mr. Freeze leading up to court of owls and Talons ! In comics Mr Freeze help court of owls keep their deadly assassin Talons cryogenic sleep /animated suspension (as cold is their weakness and makes them slow.... & that talons are like living dead who won't rot if put in cryogenic sleep). Talons later in future come after Mr.Freeze as Court of Owls see him as a major threat !!!
But otherwise i would love to see characters like Mad Bomber& Grey Ghost, Proff. Pyg, Hugo Strange, Dr Death, Phantasm & Mr Bloom!
I don't think it went too far 🤷♂️
Too far in my opinion would be depicting the rats burrowing into the man's face while he was still and forcing the people who unfortunately had popcorn to watch that
I mean does anyone actually think that Batman is all rainbows and sunshine? He dresses in black and most of Batman’s enemies are brutal and are supposed to take a more realistic role in the comic books and in live action films, they are mentally Ill patients, serial killers and underground mob bosses and you expect them to not take it to these lengths? People are sensitive and honestly this is how you know they don’t know Batman that well either
This channel is trying hard stay relevant by making controversy out of thin air
The introduction of the riddler had me terrified that breathing 😱
Right, that intro was honestly terrifying.

That rat and bomb scene was like something out of SAW and I loved it
The prison scene was just amazing!and when riddler started to sing ave maria it gets even better
“While nothing was shown, many thought it was taken too far”
STFU, it was PG-13. I would have loved an R-rated cut
this has been the only time i’ve ever been genuinely scared of a comic book villain. riddler was an incredible villain, paul dano absolutely killed it
For me the scene that went shocked me was the situation with the Commissioner, you know if you know. The scene that creeped me out was the final convo with Batman, I saw that and said “that’s Edward nigma” I closed my eyes and could see him voice the riddler in the Arkham series very well
The Arkham series nailed the characters better than anything else imo
We haven’t gotten more great scary characters because people say stuff like this. It didn’t go to far at all. They didn’t even show anything.
Riddler was one of my favorite parts of the movie along with Batman and Catwoman.
Same!! I also love Alfred, Jim Gordon, and Penguin!!!
I also like the riddler's funko pop 😁
I loved how dark it was. It felt like I was watching a horror film in some parts and I'm always up for that

Deathstroke Knights & Dragons had more “too far” scenes in it lol I think people want more of that in the DC and Marvel universe.
I also really like that you very rarely see Bruce Wayne in the movie and most of the time batman is the one solving crime, its also hilighted when the riddler says that the real him is the one when he's wearing the mask
Nothing is ever “too far” for DC. That’s why we love it 😎🃏🦇
That scene was good. It showed us that riddler has no limits. It also makes riddler seem that much more unhinged and dangerous.
Paul dano deserves the same hype of heath … he definitely made this villain his own and terrifying.
I got freaked out in the first scene when The Riddler is stood still behind the mayor in the dark
This is the most twisted version of the Riddler yet, and I love it! when unmasked, he almost looks like something out of Harry Potter, or a dark high school story, though. But I enjoyed the Riddler in this movie.
I loved how they made the Riddler very Zodiac-like.
Litteraly when the first scene with the Riddler happened. It scared the unholy crap out of me.! But OMG it was just so great 😍
Agreed
Felt like a horror film.
IMO, this was the darkest Batman film alongside The Dark Knight and Batman Returns
Carnage had a few dark moments such as that tongue death as well as when he stomps that cashier to death
I loved the darker take on Batman. The scene that made me freak the most was Riddler’s little saw trap with the rats. That was gruesome
The rat scene was unexpected. But I loved it. The Jim Carrey riddler was just goofy. Funny and quotable, but goofy. This riddler was terrifying. Truly did the character justice.
I can’t imagine how terrifying joker would be
And Scarecrow.
As much as I liked this film, this was the creepiest Superhero Film I’ve ever seen. For the reason that someone like “this” Riddler could exist in the real world. As a child, I only saw cartoons and read comics, so the creepiness factor was at an all time low.
It didn’t go too far , Batman’s character is meant to be dark , that’s why I love this movie so much

@@viscoselight2348 but they aren’t making a prequel. And Joker was literally in one scene, a scene which was intended to set up Joker as the next villain.
@@Delete240 They are making a few prequel spin offs (such as the GCPD Tv show)
Matt Reeves (the director) has openly come out and said that just because Joker is in the movie doesn't mean he is gonna be the villain in the sequel (he has expressed interest in other people).
Joker very well could be the villain in something else.
While saying it went “too far” is a bit much, that scene definitely gave me chills and had that “dark web snuff footage’ energy.
