@@PeruseProject Respected ma'am, Is there an entertaining book series in which there are male witches too like The Secret Circle ? Please suggest some good books (Any genre except contemporary) written from a man's point of view.
I personally never got into them because of the writing style and characters, but I could totally get by they'd be so famous and liked by people. Same with Cassandra Clare, the characters are recycled caricatures and the whole incest thing was really weird but her books were pretty enjoyable to read. What I never got was Throne of Glass lol, I'm sorry but-
I love SJM’s books and her ability to make us feel things really intensely. As you said, one either really loves them or really hates them, but no one would say they’re just “meh”, which to me proves that her stories are powerful enough to make anyone feel something... does it makes sense? 😂
Loved this video! As an avid (Regency) romance reader, I’m stoked to see other readers enjoy what they enjoy without shame. Romance is THE most popular literary genre, but it’s so often dismissed as silly or low-brow that readers feel embarrassed giving it the public attention and respect it deserves 🕯
Yes!!! I totally feel the same. Ive been going through Tessa Dare’s backlog recently and i started out ashamed to tell my friends, but in so glad I’ve gotten over it so can share the love
Just like wars and violence can be the centre of the story and not the fantastical elements, romance can play that role too. And it shouldn't be looked down at as basic or fluffy. Romance driven fantasy is a subgenre at this point and it has its big audience just like any other fantasy subgenre. As you mentioned that "yearning and anticipation" and build up to the relationship isn't easy to write. At least I don't think so. Many high fantasy "not very basic" stories have failed, in my opinion, to accomplish that. Idk I mean I'm not a big fan of Sarah j.mass, but I still feel bad when the fans of her series and other ya serieses feel apologetic about loving these types of stories. Also I might give Crescent City a try, it sounds interesting
Jude is fully mortal! You said she's half-fae, but her sister Vivi is the only one that's actually related to Madoc. I just finished this series so my memory is sharp.
I completely agree with you about Sarah J. Maas. Yes there are some problems to her writing but that doesn't make me love her books less. I am an absolute diehard Rhysand fan and just the simple fact that Sarah J. Maas created him makes me a diehard fan of her too.
So I was over shadowhunters at the end of freshman year but then I decided to reread all the books during quarantine for giggles. But now I’m a die hard fan again. Chain of gold was amazing
I wouldn't even consider the Host basic, I feel like the sci fi setting and deeper discussions really elevate the book to the next level compared to Twilight and fae stories and all that... but maybe I am just biased haha
I love this video! Because just because it’s “basic” doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy it anyways. Slapping book elitism in the face XD Also it’s good that you know they aren’t perfect but you want to have a good time! I would definitely say my guilty pleasure is Gossip Girl-like books so I should definitely read Anna K
You should try The Black Witch Chronicles. Similar to Holly Black but more world building and romance similar to COTR and Throne of Glass series. Love them!
I'm in love with your explanation for Regency Romance. Totally agree on it being basically fantasy hahaha I think there's so much preassure to read "good" books that sometimes we forget we can also enjoy this sort of things. Great video!
I’m 21 and have been reading Cassandra clare’s books since I was 14/15. I reread the mortal instruments for like the 4th about two or 3 months ago and 21 year old me is still the biggest Stan of anything she writes lol but especially all things shadowhunters

Thank you! I also like occasional fantasy/paranormal romance, though thinking about it I haven't read any for a while. Sci-fi romance can also be worth a read. Some authors that come to mind I've enjoyed include C L Wilson, Linnea Sinclair and Sherrilyn Kenyon - though I ended up getting a bit tired of Kenyon's habit of having every single male lead have a tragic background! The one historical romance I own is Ever a Princess by Rebecca Hagan Lee. I remember enjoying it, but it was so long ago I read it that I can't recall the plot or era!
I've watched a couple of your videos, and this one got you the subscribe lol! I love some shameless enjoyment of guilty pleasures - I'm totally here for that and it's definitely my reading style. I love reading serious adult fantasy and classics, but I love to mix that up with books that are just fun to read :)
I read City of Bones for the first time when I was 22, so I don‘t have any childhood nostalgia for it. I read the first 5 books and the started the trilogy thats set in the past because somebody told me that’s the right order. I gave up after 100 pages or so and never picked the series back up again. They are still on my shelf staring at me. I usually trust in your recommendations, so I might just try one of her newer books. I just hated her main characters and hope they are better now.
I enjoyed them quite a bit as a teenager but now that i know about the whole story of her plagiarizing and fetishizing incest etc. I can't support her one bit. Not to mention the doxxing and begging her fans to give her money when her house was 'robbed' and she wouldn't be able to afford a new laptop and continue her fanfiction unless they donated to her. A shit human being all round.
I have only read the first book in the Mortal instruments. I simply couldn't stand the characters. But I quite like the two other trilogies. Probably because the characters feel older and not as childish. 🤷 But they are never gonna be my favourite. They take me so long to get through.
I’m with you on Bringing Down the Duke! It was my first regency romance and I was there. For. It. I’m currently reading A Rogue of Ones Own and it is also excellent. Not for everyone and definitely inaccurate but its a good time.

Very impressed considering The Covenant Series, which was the first series I ever read, and I love it still, but like damn. She has gotten good at making a world! Also love that it's a little more adult and you can see some J. Lynn aspects in there as well!

Personally these types of books dont go much with my style but I have to say, if I spend months reading complex and long violent books, once in a while feels nice to pick up a more basic book that you can just read quickly and enjoy the simplicity of it and laugh a little even xD
I appreciate this video so much!!! I feel like we need to get rid of the idea that something has to be objectively good for you to be proud of enjoying it.
I'm also a basic bitch for The Cruel Prince, I'm obsessed with the fucked up romance between Cardan and Jude. Also, I need more Regency Romance in my life, I have all the ones you mentioned on your Regency video on my tbr honestly.
Regency romance is a subgenre of romance set during the Regency period in Britain (1811-1820) while Bringing Down the Duke is mostly set in 1880s - the later Victorian period. So it's not really a Regency romace but what you said certainly applies to many 18th and 19th century historical romances.

Quick question: I really want to read Cassandra Clare’s continued series in the Shadowhunter world. The thing is, I only watched the Netflix series. Would you recommend that I start by reading The Mortal Instruments (and then the trilogies) or just continue on to like, The Infernal Devices?

True!!! So what that I hate reading long, complex fantasy with boring politics. I want fun with a touch of romance! I want something I can get lost in and if that is basic, so what. I am having fun and thats all I need. Noone should shame someone for having fun!
Basic done well is still done well and should be applauded for what it is

beelikesbooks Sarah took the rights back from Hulu who have done nothing for years ... I think she’s making sure it’s done correctly by the right people ... but I don’t remember exactly what she said , I think I saw it in her live video.
@@huda9445 ahhh thank you for the update!! thats so exciting!! i want it to be good and do the books justice so im willing to wait. but it would be so nice. to have it right now...
funny how you didn't include any sanderson. from where i stand his books are pretty basic as well.
Hell no .he is master of fantasy
Honestly I think we should normalize being basic ✨
In life it’s okay to do common things, not everything in life has to be exclusive. You can find yourself through average things :))
True!!!
So what that I hate reading long, complex fantasy with boring politics. I want fun with a touch of romance! I want something I can get lost in and if that is basic, so what. I am having fun and thats all I need.
Noone should shame someone for having fun!
