I’m listening to The House on the Cerulean Sea and the audiobook is incredible! The voices are amazing!!!!! I’m sad I’m close to the end. I wish this book could go on forever.
The Liveship books do connect with the Fitz books quite a bit, not just in lore and magic but in interesting character ways as well, though you may not even realize the extent of those connections by the end of the trilogy. As you get further along in the Realm of the Elderlings though, the dots all start to connect and it's just ahhh! So magical and so worth reading in publication order!
Liveship Traders is 10/10 perfect character driven fantasy it should be a tv show. Though it is connected in some ways to Fitz it can absolutely be read as a standalone.
I read the house in the cerulean sea 2-3 weeks ago and my face was paining because I just couldn't stop smiling. It was so heartwarming!!! I didn't know I would cry over a button😭😭...
I'm so happy to hear that you loved The Dragon Republic. 💙 This entire series means the world to me as an Asian reader, and it touches on such important topics such as the impact of war and dealing with the trauma as well as shedding light on the brutality of Imperial Japan and western colonization. R.F. Kuang is such a fantastic writer!!
Regan is the only youtuber i drop everything for 😂 just wondering, does anyone else struggle with "reading ocd"? not sure if that's a real term, but im talking like obsessively rereading sentences and paragraphs until they feel "just right" and worrying im not understanding whats happening, that kind of thing 😩 it takes me an hour sometimes to read like 5 pages, and its painful. Just last month i had no problems at all then bam it all came back this month and i get anxiety just thinking about picking up a book and wondering if I'll be able to read or not. Anyone know what i mean? 🥺
i know exactly what you mean! i have the same problem and it all started during march in the beginning of quarantine. i even end up memorizing passages due to this problem :(
I have this problem. I keep rereading a sentence despite getting its meaning because I feel like I'm not feeling the emotion of the speaker properly. I want to feel exactly how they feel as they say it. It's a great hindrance to my reading. But I sometimes can't stop. I relate with the 5 page in an hour thing. I wish I could stop being so intense about my reading.
@@unprofessionalcritic3107 same!! Especially the part about wanting to read it exactly as they say it. Drives me mad when i get stuck on one sentence for about 5 minutes. I wish i could relax my reading too and not feel like it has to be "perfect"
Not a professional opinion, but I have also experienced this to a severe degree and what you are describing is actual Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. There is a difference between finding yourself rereading a section of a book because you just read through it passively and you are like "Wait, what did I just read, I have to start again." and "I have to reread the line until I get it right" and it feels like a itch you must scratch. The former is quite normal, a lot of people do it, the latter is compulsive behaviour. It will feel like a feedback loop. You will feel really good as soon as you get it right but then it will happen over and over until like you described it takes an hour to read 5 pages. This kind of behaviour happens a lot with watching visual content for some people with having to pause and unpause continually until you get it "right".
I need to finally get to the Assassin's Apprentice! The whole series just sounds sou good! I am re-reading Poppy War and The Dragon Republic now before the Burning God comes out and I am super excited. It has quickly become one of my favorite series I think and I need to know how it ends even though I am sure it is going to break my heart. Rage of Dragons is what I am starting today and I am super excited. I keep hearing amazing things about it
Ahh, I need to check out that Robin Hobbs series. I’m reading the last book of a Darker Shade of Magic series (which I’ve loved) and it sounds like a lot of parallels!
I would totally recommend reading Robin Hobb in order (especially all the Fitz books) but there are some Reference here and there in the Liveship Trades to the Farseer Books, and even some Spoilers (though i don't think you would actually pick it up if you haven't read the Farseer Trilogy). But overall it just adds a lot to the reading experience imo :)
I read the house in the cerulean sea last week and I loved it!!! I felt the same way about it that u did. Its differently a book to read when u need to feel happy
I read so much this month, which I'm happy about. I finished King's Cage and Rebecca and I read Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince and Clockwork Princess. I also completed War Storm, Renegades and The Night Circus. I'm hoping to finish the last 100 pages of The Beautiful tonight!
When Thalia came out of the record shop and wrapped her little arms around Linus and said softly "thank you Mr. Baker"... I bawled!!!! 😭😭 (I'm binging your vids and I just finished reading it lol)
You should do a grimdark recommendation video! I hadn't read any grimdark fantasy books until I picked up The Poppy War. I ended up loving it. mainly, for the characters! I think the way they're written and the decisions they make add a lot of depth to the story.
I've got the house on the cerulean sea but honestly at this point I'm almost scared to read it. It sounds perfect for me, but its so hyped up it almost can't live up to it
Regan uses a perfect word to summarize it: ‘charming’. Don’t go into it expecting it to be the best book you’ve ever read. It’s just happy and funny and sweet. It’s a silly book, but it’s super cute. SO charming. Lol just go into it expecting to smile.
I only read one book as well, I’m halfway through my second but I don’t really care how many books I read in a month. Doing so usually makes me feel bad about how many I read, and I don’t want to end up in a reading slump. Good luck with future reading!
Thank you for the review for The House on the Cerulean Sea. It's because of your review that I read the book and LOVED it. It made me cry, it made me laugh out loud, it was wonderful. Do you have any other recommendations for books that you enjoyed as much as this one?
I love that you're officially a Robin Hobb fangirl -- WELCOME!! :'D I'm like you with Rage of Dragons, it didn't quite hit the nail on the head for me but I also had very high expectations. Tau didn't seem to grow over the course of the plot. And it felt like the book was doing too much at once -- training, battle, world building, magic, politics, characters. Soh many.
These fantasies sound so awesome and I want to read all the ones you loved🤩 I’m planning to read Between the World and Me and I’ll definitely listen to the audiobook❤️
Liveship Traders can be read as a standalone, but if you keep reading Robin Hobb's series, you NEED to read both Liveship Traders AND Fitz's first series, because they interconnect later. Also, there's a character from the Fitz's trilogy in the Liveship series ;)
Currently really enjoying the house in the cerulean sea! I'm reading my Netgalley arc (late, I know) but would love to get myself a physical copy, especially with that beautiful cover
The first two Hobb Trilogies you could read in either order but once you hit the third trilogy (The Tawny Man) you’ll want to make sure your reading from there in order as the first two trilogies start to come together in the 3rd trilogy and from there is keeps building on itself. I hope that makes sense.
I kind of felt like you did with the rage of dragons. With the name of the wind. I mean the name of the wind was incredible but dang that “romance” element was so not needed. But maybe it is.........I have to do book two just to see if the 5 stars I gave should have been a 4 lol. Because ugh......she pulled me out of the story every time. Lol.
Hi Regan ! Can I ask where you buy your books ? I used to buy all of my books from amazon, but recently I haven't been able to find any books sold directly by amazon (which gives me security) , and there's very few covers and sometime I don't find the book or it's only on used form and not new.
Just finished the Liveship trilogy and I loved it just as much as the Farseer trilogy! Am loving all the Robin Hobb! About to start Dragon Republic; loved Cerulean Sea - it was delightful. Was somewhat disappointed in Rage of Dragons. So weird we read a lot of the same books this month. GMTA 😂😂😂
The Liveship Traders do conect with all of the world building that Hobb does, because every importan event that happens when a trilogy finishes will have an impact on the world itself and therefore, the character's decisions in the next books, and that is why evert trilogy is so important even though the carachters might or might not know each other. The multiple point of views in these series is the most fun part because you get to know the story in all perspectives, so you start to conect the hints by yourself, and in the end, you will be wrong anyway because Hobb is so amazing that you never see the twists coming hahahaha
I’m currently reading throne of glass queen of shadows and I have empire of storms so I’m in my fantasy world today 😁also nice content I’m going to buy some of the books you always recommend right after I finish the throne of glass series and I literally watched all your videos

Reagan, I wanted to get your input on Kip's fatphobia towards himself in the Lightbringer series. I got to the middle of book two, and it was just as prevalent as in book one, and I just couldn't get on with it. Does it get better, or is this one of those stories where it's brushed off, or he loses weight, or some bs like that? Because I was enjoying the series, but was a little afraid I would be disappointed in the end.
Kip's journey with his body and all his internalized self hate is so hard to read (you just want to give him a hug!) and it likely is steaming from his abusive childhood. Throughout the series, while Kip gets stronger and def gets some muscles given his training throughout the series (both mentally and physically) his frame does not really change (he is a big and tall guy and stays a big and tall guy). He def does not have a rapid "body transformation" but instead becomes more confident with himself slowly - also note the book takes place over a long time! I also haven't read book 5 yet so can't speak to that! This is something I am reading much more closely on with my re-read so will def flag if my opinion changes
If you are willing to read a short three book series, I have read and loved The Traitor's Game trilogy by Jennifer A. Neilson. Another duology is East by Edith Pattou. I don't know if that helped but hope it did!
The enchantment of ravens was a fun, short fantasy. Also I think the house on the cerulean sea is a stand alone. I can’t really think of any others that aren’t retellings or middle grade off the top of my head.
Omg people think assassins quest drags?? Man hearing that has given me such an immense feeling of dread. Assassins Apprentice and Royal Assassin have been painfully slow for me. I can’t imagine reading something that people who actually like these books think drags. 😫
PeruseProject that makes me feel more hopeful about diving into it. I’ve got like 100 pages left in Royal Assassin and it’s finally gotten really interesting/the pace has picked up.
Hi Regan, love your channel! To each their own, but I gotta say your issue with Rage of Dragons kind of baffles me. I understand what you're saying but it seemed pretty clearly hinted throughout the book that the main society we see are mostly the bad guys. There are of course shades of gray there (they were fleeing from something). One of the main nobles (who is deemed good) is directly attemptimg to stop the war, against the wishes of most of the nobles controlling the nation. We also have the fact that the main society is divided in castes, where the lesser's lives mean nothing, most of the noble don't want to change. They also basically take something hostage throughout the whole book to fight their war. Sure, the main character doesn't completely realize that everything I outlined means they're the bad guys in the war and attacking people who were there first (for the reasons you outlined, he is hyper focused). I understand that having colonialism in your book and not adressing it directly can ruffle some feathers. But it wasn't the focus of this book, especially since we're following Tau's story and he's dealing with the internal workings of their society, just as we are. As the series grows and he has to deal with war itself and mre external politics, than he'll have to grow and the series should tackle that theme. To be honest, I appreciated that the author didn't hold us by the hand to judge who's in the wrong, especially the way he frames the story and the society. Anyway, sorry for the rant and hope you have a great day and the second book will be more to your liking!
"This book you should definitely pick up it will put a smile on your face."

Hey totally respect your opinion! I know some people feel differently which is totally cool - excited to see how the next one plays out
If I read during my school semester my grade drops a LOT so I’m not reading until it’s a break or something 😤😓😓
