Great list - I enjoyed The Seven and a Half Deaths of Evylyn Hardcastle, and the Truly Devious trilogy. I need to try NK Jemisin, probably beginning with the Inheritance trilogy since you recommend it.
Would totally recommend The Price Guide to the Occult. Who doesn't love a witch driven mystery filled with murder and a dark spooky ambiance.

I think The Hazel Wood is a good fall read. I found it pretty creepy at times!

I read the entire Truly Devious trilogy this August and really loved it! It’s definitely perfect for fall! I love Fall reads and I really want to read Ninth House, Things in Jars, The Inheritance Trilogy, The 7.5 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, and Robin Hobb!❤️

I would recommend Home Before Dark by Riley Sager, The Stalking Jack the Ripper series is so to read during the fall time. I also loved The Beautiful which I read last week and it felt like the perfect time to read it during the spooky/Fall season. Finally, Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin is a book full of witches and magic. :) Happy Reading everyone!

One of my favourite autumn books of last year was Small Spaces by Katherine Arden! A very spooky middle grade book about friendship and bravery and a trip to a farm with a smiling man and creepy scarecrows. I would also say the Raven Cycle is fitting for autumn, as is The House of Salt and Sorrows, Serpent and Dove, and all of Jane Austen’s and Haruki Murakami’s books ☺️
I'm really excited for Piranesi by Susanna Clarke (same author as Jonathan strange & Mr Norell, but this one is really short), it just came out and it seams really strange and atmospheric

Hi Regan, I have been wanting to pick up some of N.K. Jemisin's books for a while, but I was wondering if you recommend starting with the Broken Earth's trilogy or the Inheritance Trilogy.
Great recommendations! I would recommend Stalking Jack the Ripper. I finally picked it up and absolutely adored it. Now I am reading the entire series this fall!
I think the second book is even better than the first! But I couldn't finish the series because I think the other books weren't nearly as good as the first two.

I would be curious as to your scary/spooky/horror recommendations, something along the lines of Steven King or books like “The Shadows” or Riley Sager’s “Home Before Dark”. My favorite thus far is “The Sundown Motel” by Simone St. James. Very spooky!!

You may like Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas series! Regular ole guy but he can see ghosts that flock to him in order for him to solve their deaths/get closure. He also can tell when a mass casualty is going to happen so we follow as he tries to prevent one! Dark but humorous!

I am currently 75% of the way through Middle Game by Seanan McGuire and I haven't been able to put it down since page one. I definitely recommend it!

Honestly either or! Both are amazing triologies in their own right and I don't think you can go wrong with which ever you pick up. I think the Inheritance Trilogy might be a bit easier of an introduction but really no wrong move here

7 1/2 deaths definitely is vibes. The atmosphere and vibe of the setting is the thing that i love about it the most.
I’m a 33 year old woman who was just gifted the first five books of the mortal instruments series. I mostly read character driven experimentative fiction and thrillers. Do you think I would like the mortal instruments or should I give it to a deserving teenager?
Deserving teenager. Mostly surrounding romance and most of the elements of the book is "borrowed" from others in the fantasy genre. If you think you might like it read the first book. I read the series and in the end I felt that the whole lot was a massive waste of time.

ughhhh I really wish ppl would mention the ridiculous fatphobia in EVELYN HARDCASTLE when recommending it. like it’s fine if that doesn’t personally bother you, but it’s absolutely something a reader should be warned about before going in IMO. it’s like JK Rowling’s fatphobia about the Dursleys x 1000000 and it made me 1-star the book.
I think it's worth noting a content warning for The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle; I believe it's on day four that the narrator takes on the body of a larger person and there is RAMPANT fatphobia throughout the entire chapter. I couldn't stand to read beyond that chapter so just a warning to anyone who is interested in the book!

To all those who enjoy well-written detective fiction/whodunit style stories with amazing characters at their heart, I HIGHLY recommend the Cormoran Strike series by J K Rowling. The fifth book just came out, but make sure you read the books in order of publication. :)

Not true at all obviously cant read it if its not in English but I've read so many translated books and books by poc authors

I am reading my way around the world at the moment and the only translated book I can get my hands on from an author from Paraguay, for example, is the autobiography of a footballer. Not my style at all!
I am particularly interested in fantasy/sci-fi works.
I have already started on the Witcher books and have Karen Lord and Liu Cixin on my TBR.
Forgot to mention Rin Chupeco and Yangsze Choo.
