If you MUST carry out this dangerous repair, at least offset the two joins so that they are not alongside one another and cannot short across. Secondly, don't do this.

Makes no difference because there is insulation between the soldered joins.

And double, triple the heatshrink tubing, and use bigger ones to cover everything instead of using cotton and tape.
Filling larger heatshrink tube with hot glue can be used to help with strain relief too.

It may look safe and probably it even is save, but when you have a fire in the house, the insurance will not pay a penny when this is found in your house. even when it was not the real course of the fire. A replacement is so cheap, you do not want to take the risk.

When I was a kid, my father used to put wires straight into the power outlet if there was no plug. Old cables with thick copper veins and 230V going through them. I felt uncomfortable seeing it, yet after many years I do believe it was a safer thing than what you did here, lol. The worst thing about it is the fact it gives you a sense of safety.

Hey kids you can use your playstation now. Tug on the cord like you usually do (how it broke in the first place). Reach around the back of the cabinet to plug it in with your wet hands. I have done this (remote location not near stores) with offset joins and heavy shrink over the top and still didn't trust it so got rid of it. I only watched this to the end to see how bad it really was. I noticed slight nick in the insulation for starters - prone to break/shortcircuit even if not conductive just yet.

It is an excellent video recording, but the whole point on safety is missing. If someone follows the instructions perfectly, they end up with a very dangerous setup. No, unless this is an emergency requirement, it should never be done. Buy a replacement plug that was designed to work better and last longer. If someone repairs an electrical cord in this fashion, they end up having an electrical failure and possibly a fire hazard.

I never had any luck with off the shelf plug ends. Even when I paid $200 to get a bunch of my cords fixed. I do a similar method as this with more reinforcement than the video shows. Nothing you buy off the shelf is engineered to work flawlessly. Everything is engineered to be just good enough to sell at the price people are willing to pay. Moreover, even the plug ends they sell that do not really work, are often as expensive as getting a new cord.

    • @dennisgarber
      @dennisgarber 5 місяців тому +3

I use several extension cords for work each day and use about 250 feet of them on the weekends to mow my 75 feet by 400 feet deep lawn, since I have so many cords, and a corded lawn mower doesn't stall on long grass like my riding and push gas mowers, and the electric cuts the lawn shorter and the lawn looks better. My lawn grows an inch per day and I need to cut it 2 times a week with my gas mowers and once with the electric.
Also, the thinker the copper wire, the more brittle and more quickly we get cord breaks. The thick wire is nearly impossible to get a good plug replacement. So slicing and soldering has been the only practical solution. It seems like a good thick cord does not take very long before needing a repair, more so than the thin.
The wife and son refuse to mow rationally, from the outlet outwards, so the cord cannot get run over. I think they also purposely run over the cord with the lawn mower as an excuse not to mow, just as they use the excuse that they can't get the fas mowers started. Thus a seemingly constant cord repair is the norm.

Z zawodu jestem elektronikiem i automatykiem.

🙏THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "the Salvation of the last day that Christ brought in the second and last incarnation of His new and holy name"
(The kingdom walks in the midst of mankind, it is formed in the midst of mankind, it stands in the midst of mankind; no force can destroy My kingdom. When the sign of My new beginning is revealed to the masses, how will humanity react? I now walk in the midst of My people, I dwell in the midst of My people. Now, those who have true love for Me, such a person is blessed; blessed are those who submit to Me, they will surely remain in My kingdom; blessed are those who know Me, they will surely hold power in My kingdom; blessed are those who desirewith Me, they will surely be saved from the chains of Satan and they will enjoy the blessing of Me; blessed are those who can renounce themselves, they will surely enter My possession, and inherit the reward of My kingdom. I will bless those who are satisfied with My words; surely they will be the pillars that will raise the top of My kingdom, surely they will have an incomparable reward in My house, and no one will be like them. Have you accepted the blessings given to you? In the midst of darkness, you will certainly not lose the light that guides you. Surely you will be the master of all beings. Surely you will be victorious before Satan. You will surely be strong and steadfast in the land of Sinim.)
      Almighty God said
The KINGDOM expands in the midst of mankind, it is formed in the midst of mankind, it stands in the midst of mankind; NO FORCE can DESTROY My KINGDOM. Among My people who are in the kingdom of the present, who among you is not a person who mingles with people? Who among you lies outside the human condition? WHEN the SIGN of My NEW BEGINNING is REVEALED to the MASSES, HOW will HUMANITY REACT? You have SEEN with your OWN EYES the STATE of MANKIND; SURELY you NO LONGER HOPE to ENDURE forever in this WORLD? I will REMEMBER those who WORK for My SAKE, I will EMBRACE with JOY those who SPEND for My SAKE, I will GIVE PLEASURES to those who SACRIFICE to Me. 🙏
I will BLESS those who are SATISFIED with My WORDS; SURELY they will be the PILLARS that will RAISE the TOP of My KINGDOM, SURELY they will have an INCOMPARABLE REWARD in My HOUSE, and NO ONE will be LIKE them.🌷
Have you ACCEPTED the BLESSINGS GIVEN to you? Have you LOOKED for what was PROMISED to you? 🙏
UNDER the GUIDANCE of My LIGHT, you will SURELY BREAK free from the STRANGLEHOLD of the FORCES of DARKNESS. In the MIDST of DARKNESS, you will CERTAINLY NOT LOSE the LIGHT that GUIDES you. SURELY YOU will be the MASTER of ALL BEINGS. SURELY you will be VICTORIOUS before SATAN. 🙏🛑
WHEN the KINGDOM of the GREAT RED DRAGON is BROKEN, YOU will CERTAINLY STAND in the MIDST of a GREAT CROWD to WITNESS My VICTORY. You will SURELY be STRONG and DURABLE in the LAND of SINIM. I make repairs like this frequently. Though I use an air tool instead of a lighter for my shrink tube and I Use a third piece of shrink tube over the whole repair. I flux the wires as well to make tinning easier and more reliable. Never had a problem with a repair. I dont use thread as I dont see a benefit to it and that looks time consuming. A properly soldered joint can not be pulled apart and once wrapped by a properly rated material like tube or tape is an accepted standard of repair worldwide. IF I were going to make that repair and I had the option I would have bought and installed a replacement end but this works too.

Large heat shink can be used to hold a severed finger tip in place until the nerve ends re-connect. Use soldering iron to heat the wrap. Use a sharp knife to remove wrap afterwards.

A ideia é boa, mas a execução normalmente acaba em acidente quando se utiliza o estilete com a lâmina voltada para as mãos...
Pensando bem, não seria mais prático simplesmente colocar um plugue novo ?

I would not have thought of using a lighter to strip wires, I guess as long as you don't lite up before doing this. Also, If you put a larger diameter heat shrink tube over the main cable , you then just slip that over both of the wires and shrink. It would save some time from winding and gluing; just a thought.
