One major mistake, this video does not talk about ensuring that the same color of wire is soldered again on the desoldered point. If the color scheme of the wires are not maintained as of original, then due to polarity reversal your phone of thousands of Rs gets damaged due to reverse polarity of DC voltage.
A much easier solution is that when the cable first begins to fray, cover a few inches around and over the break with Shoe Goo or something similarly strong and flexible like that plastic you dip tools handles into, thus preventing any further breakage and sealing the wire.
02:42 I liked the heat shrinking rather than stripping the core conductor insulation, but seeing as I have an appropriate stripper, I would prefer its precision. I wouldn't say "fix it in seconds", but yes, with care and the right tools, this can be done.
I think this video is aimed at repairing top brand cables like Apple or Samsung etc not cheap £1 or €1 or $1 because people keep saying cables are cheap to buy in comments section, not all are cheap that's my point. helpful video thankyou.
Affordability is relative to income and what you want to do with your spare time. Fixing charging cables is not high on my priority list if $20 gets enough cables to last until my next phone upgrade then that's my path. But in many countries changing your phone as often as your socks is not possible but neither is having shrink tape, solder and a soldering iron.
Interesting. I always try and control the weak link on electronic devices like corded Irons by moving the flexing of power wire away from the ball that swivels in handle. It might make sense to put shrink tubing over new cords to reduce the weak link.
Going to try this. But some of the soldered connections appeared to be very close to touching each other which could create a “shorting” condition adversely affecting performance.

This can be done but, depending upon the price of a replacement, it iis probably not worth it. I would probably estimate thatit will take about $15 of my time to do thisand I have the tools and supplies. if you want todo this, some suggestions: 1. I never hold my fingers as as close to a hot soldering tip as this may does---be careful! 2. I generally use desoldering braid to removesolder from a connection. 3. There are wire strippers that do this easily, and efficiently. Anyway, feel free to try your luck, my time is better spent elsewhere.

You could buy a new cable for little money but you should buy the brand that came with your phone. The wiring between brands isn't universal. I shrink wrap my cables when they are still new which prevents all of this. I use a shrink tube that is 3:1 shrink ratio and comes in white. It has adhesive inside it which activates when heated so you don't need extra glue. The shrink tube piece also dries hard so you have extra protection from the cable wiggling around. It cost me about $2 a foot US and will do several cables when you only use about an inch at a time. I buy the diameter that will fit over the USB connector and the 3:1 ratio shrinks small enough for the phone plug side. A lot easier than what you see here.
