Speaking of Regenerations.... Even from what little lore I myself recall, Rassilon was the first Gallefreyan Time-Lord (or at least the first to claim the title) & 'true' immortal; he bargained with Death to allow his people (the Time-Lords) only 12 regenerations, as nothing escapes Death, not even Time. Rassilon agreed & entombed himself (see The Five Doctors), setting the trap those who came seeking immortality. However, Time-Lord technology could provide additional regenerations, even a full cycle of 12, but only under specific circumstances (of which were never revealed). The Doctor received this new cycle near the end of The Time of The Doctor. The Master may have likewise received a new regeneration cycle, but it's unrevealed how many are left after his rebirth from The War Master/Professor Yana to Harold Saxon & then to his/her 'Missy' incarnation.
I'm pretty sure the timelords are older than ten million years old. Considering Matt smiths doctor mentions they have existed since the dawn of time (without time travel as they were one of the first sentients in the DR who universe). Maybe you meant their current culture.
No, they as time lords only have had ten million. He got his in fo from "Trial of a Time Lord", colin baker's Doctor literally says "ten million years of absolute power"
So, Collin Baker says, "ten million years of absolute power" and Rassiolon says, "a billion years of Time Lord history". Perhaps Rassilon was referring to how old the Gallifreyan race was back in his day (forgetting that he has been "asleep"/dead for a long time), and perhaps the Doctor was referring to the time since Rassilon (i.e. the time that they have been TIME LORDS for). Alternatively, I believe that Gallifrey exists in "inner-time" and the rest of the universe are in "outer-time", much in the same way that we talk about outer space and inner space. This could mean that whilst the Time Lords are only ten million or a billion years old (in terms of inner time) they have been interacting with more than a billion years worth of outer time. Finally, the Time Lords were active in the "Dark Times", having destroyed the Racnoss approximately 4.6 billion years ago, and the Vampires at a similar time. Whilst this implies that they are far older than a billion years, the above paragraph demonstrates how this might not be the case.
Maybe the species has existed for a Billion years, but the time tech that gave them absolute power has "only" been around for 10 million years...... That or lazy arbitrary writing... It was mostly filler for the real story anyway.
Yeah but this is all wrong, it was all started by a little girl coming through a portal that they stole regeneration from. Isn't the newest Doctor Who great?

Lungbarrow showed that natural childbirth had come back to Gallifrey, but maybe the High Council continued using the Looms in order to insure "genetic purity" in the Time Lord elite.
blackphoenix77 no in the books it was stated that time lords were sterile for 1000 years and used looms during that time. Lets not forget that Davies told the woman in the later stages of The End of Time that she was playing the Doctor's mother.
In the virgin brand book "cat's cradle : times crucible" the tale told of the first time ship experiment and how their species stopped having children the way we do. Rassilon was in stasis available to be awoken in case of great need, but if you woke attempted to wake him just to exploit his power (as Barusa discovered at the end of serial "The Five Doctors") you got absorbed into the machine yourself. Rassallon and Omega (and their generation of Time Lords) didn't have a limitation on the number of time they could regenerate - Rassilon introduced a virus that caused the limitation. You included images of the sisterhood which are not part Of Gallifrey. They do inhabited planet in the same system though. Have very different powers or abilities. And often work together
If you write a program that paints one picture, you're the creator of that picture. A computer program created by a human is as good as a book, or a poem, or a painting created by a human. It takes knowledge and skill to write, paint, or code. (It should be noted that talent is practice that a viewer wasn't there to witness)
They are the same species, and Karn is (or was) in an adjacent star system to Gallifrey. Considering the incredible age of their species, it is highly likely that Karn was one of their first interstellar colonies in eons past. While the Sisters used the Elixir in lieu of regeneration, they understood the mechanics of regeneration well enough to control the result of it. Unlike the Time Lords, they focus on developing their psychic powers rather than technology.
Probably the most important creation of the Time Lords is the Great Eye of Harmony, source of all their power and linchpin of the Web of Time itself. Second would be the Web of Time, the meta-structure the Time Lords imposed on the Universe as "official history". Third would be the Matrix and fourth TARDISes.
Given the disclosure of the heritage of the Doctor's mother, the Timelord may have experimented with mixing their bloodlines with other races. One of the only race which seems to be the rivals of the Timelords is the human race. The Human race have master time travel by themselves. The Timelords were likely aware of the Human Race mastering time travel. The Timelords could have work with the human race when it comes to time travel. Somehow due to some reasons like pride may have prevented the Timelords from working with the humans. Eventually, the Human race became the new masters of time.
I think Timelords were older than 10 million something like on or near a couple of billion year older for they had their hands in all of time now the Daleks were 10 million years old.
Hey can I ask where you got the names of the houses from?. The only one i knew of was Prydonian. And I hate to be picky but its Cas tell an and Rassilon can't have be resurrected as it's clear in the Five Doctors he's not dead. Sorry for being picky. You've done a great job with this video.
Can you answer the following questions about Time Lords given they have traveled to the earliest moments of the past to the end of time: (1) If Gallifrey was destroyed in the latest season, why didn't the Time Lords know this and take steps to stop the Master from doing his naughty deeds? (2) When Dr. Who started up again with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor he said he was the last of the Time Lords and was alone in the Universe. This continued to hold true for the next several incarnations of the Doctor. HOWEVER: If Time Lords can be found all throughout the time stream, then the Chris Eccleston Doctor as well as the others should have been bumping into other Time Lords in different periods of time. After all, the Doctor seems to repeatedly bump into another incarnation of himself (or herself). Thus, the Chris Eccleston Doctor could never have been alone in the Universe.
Ye but those are in the past Most of the Time Lords he came across in the series either died later on, were banished or died during the Time War The Doctor tries not to encounter already dead Time Lords Plus the Time Lords time locked the war so no one can get in or out unless if it's convenient to the plot Plus they don't look into their own time stream unless if someone tries to mess with it
@Maria Kelly Peter was the last true Doctor. All that Cibs the idiot creates is an abomination. He woked it up! He ruined the first female Doctor by making it so she wasn't the first female doctor. Woke'ness is the death of literature and entertainment.
I love how some of the coolest Doctor Who lore came from a mix of real-life British TV production limitations and seat-of-the-ass writing requiring creative explanations later on down the line.
They were at the top of their universe. Outside of their universe there were vastly superior beings though. Ones that were beyond simple technology. Even though timelord tech did have an affect to a degree. A being like a 'Guardian of Time' was too powerful for a timelord. Then there's the mysterious 'The Grace' whom stand above the Guardians. We know next to nothing about them. Only that they created the Key to Time, which is the essential embodiment of the Guardians being.

Q are more powerful than the Timelords
Excellent work! Great series. Please consider doing cultures of Dune universe.
Sangheili (Elites) HALO.
A look at the Daleks in the next video maybe?
Compared to Earth's timeline, does the Doctor originate from our past or our future? What was contemporary on Earth to his birth?
shawn lopez The past Time Lords
were "first".
Billions of years before earth existed.
He meant from the Doc's point of view, NOT who were first.
I think the Doctors' from the future, not the past.
In the very first story, An Unearthly Child, Susan says something like they come from the 55th century. However, this is long before the concept of a Time Lord, regeneration or Galifrey were introduced.
Jeff Walker it is possible that that was her stating what Earth year they were from, like a translation. Instead of: "we are from the year 10,005,682 of the planet Gallifrey" she said "55th century"
I wonder how familiar Jodie Whittaker was with the history and significance of the "Time Lord" vs. "Time Lady" title when she answered a fan's question in an interview, or whether it was something the writers/producers had discussed with her beforehand. (She said her Doctor would be called a Time Lord.) The modern series does seem to use "Timelord" more generically, and implied with Missy that "Time Lady" has fallen out of use, but I wonder if she/they understood how much they were putting in the canon with that statement. I know I don't.
Dr Who is WEIRD. :D I'll have to give it a try one of these days. Great work as always.
Thank-you! :)
@Cryer24597 until recently
Can you do how the citadel was built, and the geology of the planet and architecture of the planet
"What duzzat mean?"-every companion ever
But if you have control of time, how can you lose anything? Pull an Ekko and reverse your time and hang a left when far enuf back. Timelords have save states! Unless the war against the Daleks is pure entertainment for both Gallefry and the Daleks.... Which would make a lot of sense, but would mean a lot of people were erased from existence for nothing.
Oh I seriusly doubt the Time Lords viewed the Could've Been King, Never-weres..etc etc as entertainment
very interested loved it and how it goes into detail also loved the ending weeping angel attack :P really enjoyed this will look into others u have done
What's the Who theme tune remix you use in the background? It sounds quite ambient and beautiful.
You should do the Daleks from Doctor who and talk about the time war.
Oh come on, he just did the Time Lords. Give him a chance to do some other sci-fi aliens before returning to Doctor Who aliens.
there are plenty of vids out there....many of them of lesser quality, most of them absolutley fiblled with fan theory drivel, but some are not bad.
Kevin Jones and the weeping angels
He does votes on Daleks now, hurry up and vote.
Ok space marines (imperials) vs time lords (
gallifreyans). who would win a war? Im saying time lords but comment what u think.
Tzeentch, duh.
When in doubt: Slaneesh
As a fellow Whovian I thought perhaps if it's not too much trouble if you could consider making another Doctor Who culture index video only this time focusing on the Daleks seeing as they are the evil counterparts to the Time lords and because you have done many videos on the Star trek aliens I though maybe you should consider expanding on you Whovian audiences interests but if you find it to be too much for your schedule then no harm done.
9:27 You're the artist. The computer program is the medium.
*says chancellor*
*thinks*
I AM THE SENATE
Can you Please do culture index or personnel file on theses two charaters Captain Dax and History and story about K-9 Astromech droid.
Would you be the artist and the computer your brush?
You included images of the sisterhood which are not part Of Gallifrey. They do inhabited planet in the same system though. Have very different powers or abilities. And often work together
gallifrey falls no more
Rassilon said there was a billion years of time lord history
Not 10 million years of time Lord history
Thanks for the Time Lord history lesson, and I also enjoyed the Rassilon video.
If you write a program that paints one picture, you're the creator of that picture. A computer program created by a human is as good as a book, or a poem, or a painting created by a human. It takes knowledge and skill to write, paint, or code.
(It should be noted that talent is practice that a viewer wasn't there to witness)
Indeed, many people even today are “AI artists” who specially train neural nets to produce art with the desired style
You incorrectly included a couple pics of the Sisterhood of Karn, who were not Time Lords.
they are gallifreyans
One question why don't you do any videos about the science fiction universe of Star Gate?
most appropriate use of the word NOPE, EVER......
Can you do Cybertronians Autobots/Decepticons
You will get a lot of heat for this one but blummin brilliant.
Would be interesting to get an update once the events of the current season are concluded.
No.
@@nigredoooalgown6245 yes
@@OptimusWombat It's not canon, so no.
Feminist propaganda will never be canon.
@@nigredoooalgown6245 if it's shown on screen, then it's canon, whether you like it or not.

Until season 12 came along ant took a big shit on it
Do the forerunners from Halo there is so much information about them. Like books and books worth.
I think Timelords were older than 10 million something like on or near a couple of billion year older for they had their hands in all of time now the Daleks were 10 million years old.
Thank you for this video. Time Lords are one if my favorite alien species.
Need to discuss. Omega and the fact he is really responsible for the time lords even being a culture
Another fantastic Dr Who piece
Man. NuWho has SO screwed the Dr Who Continuity so BAD... and it just keeps getting WORSE!!
Could you do anlther Cultural Index on the Fallout series? Super Mutants for instance?
I like this guy explaining things
0:09 Why did you leave this in your video. Note to self: skip to 0:25.
Guess give it a year or so, probably have to re-do this guy.
I thought The Sisterhood of Karn taught the Timelords the ability of Regeneration. Or is that just from the new series?
nope they are from the same race
I'm not that big a fan of Dr Who but this was a very enjoyable and thorough video. Great job!
Thank-you!
What about The Heliotropes and Betrixies? THE DEADLY ASSASSIN?
Thanks for the video. Loved it. Thanks. P.S. Don't blink.
the machine is the artist
if you make something like a painting you are the artist not your parents
Do a cultural index on Krypton, please?
Ye but those are in the past
Most of the Time Lords he came across in the series either died later on, were banished or died during the Time War
The Doctor tries not to encounter already dead Time Lords
Plus the Time Lords time locked the war so no one can get in or out unless if it's convenient to the plot
Plus they don't look into their own time stream unless if someone tries to mess with it
Thanks for the obvious amount of research you put into this. Superficial or not as a new Whovian I've learned so much. Subsribed! :D
1:52 Is that Michael Gough in the background? He was Alfred in the Michael Keaton Batman movies.
It is indeed. he also played the Celestial Toymaker in a William Hartnell episode.
This is more canon than the Jody Abomination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Maria Kelly Peter was the last true Doctor. All that Cibs the idiot creates is an abomination. He woked it up! He ruined the first female Doctor by making it so she wasn't the first female doctor. Woke'ness is the death of literature and entertainment.
In some accounts, the Pythians cursed the galifreyans to be sterile, thus the need for looms.
A society so old they have all become insufferable gits.
please do another law based doctor who. I loved it, don't care what it's on
could you do a Cultural Index on the Daleks
That was excellent.
THX.
Luv and Peace.
I love how some of the coolest Doctor Who lore came from a mix of real-life British TV production limitations and seat-of-the-ass writing requiring creative explanations later on down the line.
REMINDS ME of the man of steel version of krypon
that was bloody good thanks mate.
loved it :D yes i wathced the eantire series most of it at elast, still know little of the timelords
can you do The Darleks as a video ???
Needs to be updated with the revelations made in Series 12 regarding The Timeless Child and their relation to the Time Lords.
A lot of people hated that retcon.
@@Lilacgem-02 For completely illogical reasons.
