Lyrics:
Ain't found a way to kill me yet
Eyes burn with stinging sweat
Seems every path leads me to nowhere
Wife and kids household pet
Army green was no safe bet
The bullets scream to me from somewhere
Here they come to snuff the rooster, aww yeah, hey yeah
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah
You know he ain't gonna die
No, no, no, ya know he ain't gonna die
Here they come to snuff the rooster, aww yeah, hey yeah
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah
You know he ain't gonna die
No, no, no, ya know he ain't gonna die
Walkin' tall machine gun man
They spit on me in my home land
Gloria sent me pictures of my boy
Got my pills 'gainst mosquito death
My Buddy's breathin' his dyin' breath
Oh god please won't you help me make it through
Here they come to snuff the rooster, aww yeah
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah
You know he ain't gonna die
No, no, no ya know he ain't gonna die

@Where Is Waldooh Waldo get lost
So true
EPIC! Best choice for vocals.
@d-vela34 no doubt
Great voice, but just not lane. Props though
Everyone in the band just casually playing along, and then there’s tuba guy just f@ckin killin it
It is similar to a tuba but is actually a sousaphone.
Jason Hoss my bad. It’s all the same to me. Thanks for that 👍
Him and the baritone sax always gets overlooked in my opinion. Even in traditional bands. Everyone focuses on the more obvious sounds but they don't realize, without that bass and background, the song wouldn't be well rounded and sound like garbage. Long live us bass players!
@@lilscrydvl Hear, hear!
But what happened to Kenneth Bentley? He used to play it, and made me smile whenever he showed up in previous videos - him and the instrument seemed like a unity :) Not that I have anything against the 'new' guy...
I'm a die hard AIC fan, I generally don't listen to covers of their songs. But this is fantastic. Gave me chills.
Check upchurch...
I see this comment all the time on cover songs. I love seeing people cover songs I love. I don’t get why people don’t share my sentiments. Seeing “regular” people come close or even sometimes surpass the original makes me happy.
I was thinking this as well. Tubular cover!
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Yup, Chills is Right!! Same for me as well.
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
That is the most Badass house painting crew of all time !!
I’m imagining them as a house painting crew at my house who goes on break and busts out a bunch of instruments and I’m all “wtf are you doing?! Wait. No. Keep playing...”
Put all Sophia/Brass Against collabs on a CD and I'll buy it right now. Another vote for Pearl Jam Black.
Oh heck ya... Jeremy would be awesome as well. Huge UpVote for PJ stuff here.
They have two CDs on their website! Go get them! I've got Brass Against II and it's fantastic! The Lateralus kicks ass.
Hell yes!!! 🙏👏😈🤘
I love that song! I literally sung it last night
What’s a CD?
Anybody else get goosebumps when she sings?
us!
I did on this one especially
No))
@@BrassAgainst @3:33 👀 oh. My. God.
@@theotherserge the microphone couldn’t even handle it
Sophia is without a doubt the best vocalist that plays with Brass Against. She has that perfect mix of grunge and dynamic that I love.
Also, choosing Rooster is a really cool choice because the song is so subtle, with equal amounts of quiet and loud, and the way they are able to tone down the normally bombastic levels during the quiet moments was great.
Please more Alice covers. I NEED to hear Sophia sing I Stay Away.
You are in my mind
Can you imagine her blasting out love hate love?
Sophia on Rain When I Die could be phenomenal!
Heck yes!!!!
Sludge factory would be sick
I don't know how Sophia does it every time! Her sound is unique to her but you can hear Layne or Maynard or de la Rocha in her voice. Amazing. Praying for Pearl Jam - Black soon.
Nah, they should leave Black alone. But would love to hear them something Pearl Jam, perhaps Alive.
Kykk you could be right but I’m a sucker for Black. On the other hand, They couldn’t find a bad song on Ten if they tried.
@@OoxNemesisxoO Black is a phenomenal song. I just don't think anyone other than Mr Vedder can do the song justice, and I don't think it should be brassed up. Cheers.
@@kykk3365 'Alive.' Yes.
Honestly I have to disagree. She has zero elements of Layne or Maynard. I actually thought this was one of her weakest performances vocally that I've seen yet. Even the overproduction/editing can't help it. You can tell it's pretty heavily edited and autotuned. 3/10.
Big ups to the player, arranger, engineer, mixer for getting that sousaphone to sit in the mix like a bass guitar. EPIC
best part imo. That guy did some really heavy pumpin' playing.
Every single time I see BA with Sophia in the title I say to myself (before even watching the vid) "Oh this is going to be GOOD."
I find myself to be right every single time.
Pour one out for my man Layne Staley. Rest In Peace.
Very underrated and underappreciated artist
@@the-engneer my favorite vocalist of the grunge era
@@the-engneer This group?.....or AIC?
@@stanzavik Lane Staley specifically
Every day I miss that man. What a beautifully f-ed up prophet.
Trevor from GTA V is killin it on the alto sax
I thought that was Simon from Walking Dead
That is a baritone sax 🙄😉
That is a baritone sax 🙄😉
WOW. I was not expecting this. ALL of them KILLED it! Who knew Tuba
could be a weapon of GRUNGE destruction. Rock the Fuck on!
the part that always gets me "Oh god please won't you help me make it through"
in the original, it honestly sounds like layne is genuinely pleading for his life, and it gives me chills every single time. i love this cover, and i can imagine its hard to channel that kind of pain
Somehow, the addition of brass to the song, gives it this 1970's movie soundtrack feel.
Good call. I'm loving it
Doing Layne Staley vocals is just challenging. There are times when he is using minimal power but producing massive sound. And a posture about his voice. But Sophia just masters and handles all of those challenges well. Impressive work as always.
Lol. Most of what you're hearing is master layering to make the voice sound bigger.
Yeah but she still emulates his singing style very well! But Layne's is just so distintive, i personally can't get it out of my head while listening to this. Still, thumbs up!
Layne layered the heck out of his plus harmonizing with Jerry Cantrell. To get true Layne, you'll have to listen to Mad Season which used less effects with mastering.
@@jmillz8197 I have listened to Mad Season, pretty great I agree.
@@jmillz8197 or just listen to their full live album or anything live to see his true talent.
Layne had one of the most powerful voices in rock n roll. He sang with raw emotion and power, and made it look easy. rip
He was perfection. Anyone who disagrees, watch LOVE, HATE, LOVE live at The Moore. Layne was out of this Universe! I have never heard a perfect live performance. He was! No tricks, just pure power. It still gives me chills after all these years. There will never be another Layne! His voice was so unique and beaitiful. I miss him.
@@staleypharmaceuticals2071 I totally agree. It seems futile hearing another vocalist cover his songs because they never come from the same raw source. He felt those words utterly and no one comes close to that. Okay they try and do something different, and fair play if it spreads the word and brings someone new to the original.
Right on!
@Troll Hunter51 Alice In Chains and Megadeth were my favourite bands: both had melody and attack, while AIC had that plus the voice, and they had the best look too.
Sophia kills it again.
Nah her uplifting vocals doesn't match the song at all.
@@cheetodust7041 youre right, shes trash for this song
@@MrJaytastik she's great but no woman can sing this song, it just doesn't work. hell not many men can sing it either. She is great with the rage covers. Layne can't really be covered and definitely not by a woman
Every "YEEEAAAAHHH" from Sophia penetrates the soul! You people are amazing, keep it up!
Here we go again
Now am all hyped up and ready to storm something.
I started to tear up at the end.
Miss you Layne.
Love that you guys show that instruments can be used for any genre, and that music is unlimited and unites all
I was hooked as soon as Mariel started with her trombone.
Goosebumps. The vocals where breathtaking.
Sophia has the most intoxicating voice thank you
I love that brass sound, Tower of Power, Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire.
Holy balls can this girl sing, Jesus, I am in utter awe of not only her singing voice, but the fact she can cover others who’s voices I love and would think no one could do them justice, but every time Sophia nails it. I’m utterly amazed
The horns in this seem so natural, I’m surprised this cover wasn’t done sooner. So good!
The vocal layers in the chorus gave me chills. The trumpets carrying a countermelody in the verse. All the parts blending seamlessly. I could keep pointing out the brilliance, but I will just say - beautifully done.
The drummer is probably happy that he doesn't have to play another Tool song lol
Fair statement.
Ha ha ha!!! does a good job though!
😆😆😆
🤣🤣🤣
This is considerably less work for him, for sure.
My god Sophia is always pitch perfect. She’s amazing.
Yes indeed. I literally had this song in my head when the notice popped up. Nice work. I'm sure the Chain's Gang would love it.
Layne would have nodded his head in approval, awesome rendition..... i thought I heard Layne come through Sophia's voice. Friggin awesome.
Apart from whole wonderful musical arrangement, Sophia's vocal depth in chorus is what you are waiting for, again and again...
Obviously great vocal, but also great sound engineering! Grat's from Poland!
And I kept waiting, hoping I could just hear her voice, ended up not happening.
@no privacy they just over tracked (had her dub her own voice a second time) it in places like the original. Least that what it sounds like to me.
Absolute goosebumps when you came in with...." you know he ain't gonna die..." love this you guys....
R.I.P. Layne. This gave me goosebumps,,,much respect. 🤘
This gave me full-body chills when Sophia started singing. Love this!!
I didn't know I needed Brass Against to do Rooster. But now I realize I definitely did need it!
Her voice is perfect for this song
Her voice was great as always but bummed me out she couldn't show some solidarity with the white romper.
@no privacy I'm 100% certain that Layne's voice on the original recording was also buried in effects. There's no way you distort your guitars that much and leave the vocals clean. Moreover, they also mixed a lot of voice layers for harmonics.
@no privacy I wish she was wearing the same white romper outfit as the rest of the band irt to the visuals for this video.
no privacy she’s singing harmonized vocals going into the chorus. It’s how the song was originally recorded with Jerry and Layne singing “yeah they come to snuff the rooster” and the rest of the chorus being Layne singing 2-3 times over himself for effect
The Brass was turned up loud but damn that Sophia rises above. She can SING.
One of the great 90s alt rock songs, covered beautifully.
Magnificent! Layne Staley would be proud.
Great...gonna binge this band for at least the next week.
I LOVE Sophias voice, so powerful!
This cover is incredibly true to the original, and that's honestly very hard to do with a band like Alice In Chains. Congrats to the band for their work, great arrangement, and special shout-out to Sophia, she emulates Layne's vocals so well !
Big fan, rock on !
One of your best brass arrangements yet - Excellent. Trumpets sounds sublime on this one
This woman is absolutely incredible.
Seeing other people do the vocals on AIC songs always reminds me how talented Layne was. Some of those sustained notes and runs sound really difficult.
Amazing!!!!!!!! When the world opens back up I have to see this band perform!!!!! #bucketlist
You guys have definitely made Layne proud. Was slobbering mess after this... Much love and respect.
Her vocals r killin me
I think the best cover I’ve ever heard
this band made me fall in love with these songs again (and her..)
This is an amazing arrangement, the low brass and Sophia's voice are just perfect. My favourite one she's done now!
Edit: Hoping to one day hear Brass Against with Sophia giving Seven Mary Three "Cumbersome" a try or some Stone Temple Pilots, SOPHIA could destroy some STP!
Yes I like Sophia's voice! But why doesn't she put on something nice! Something sharp! She's doing a video! Her look is very, very ordinary. Plain.
@@ricknowak4582 - I think she looks sharp in everything.
I get chills everytime I watch you guys
Hey Brass Against! Have ya'll received any feedback from the original artists of these songs? I'd love to see a post or a video compiling those
Well don't expect a reply from Layne
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this video I still get teary. One of the greatest tributes to Layne.
Absolutely amazing!!!
I pray in secret for a "do the evolution" from pearljam ❤️
Garden…
That woman's got some freaking pipes dude
Last week I saw a trailer for the Layne Staley documentary that is coming out next year. I then procceed to listen to a lot of Alice in Chains throughout the week and then you guys release this incredible cover. What is going on?!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
I cried tears of sorrow the day that Layne died. I cried tears of joy when I heard this. Well done, Brass Against. Well done. You freakin' rock!
great comment! thank you!!
No one knew he had died until weeks after he died so what are you talking about?
@UCpu2u5b8ELSi75Q_KleGFcQ when his death got announced you idiot
@@OscarOffTheCuff you cant read but im the idiot?
And she does it again...
I can't even figure out how someone can be so talented, so badass and so beautiful at the same time.
Omg ❤
Perfect
(I still hope you guys do a Deftones - Passenger cover)
Watched this so many times and I just now noticed that the guitarist drops his pick at 3:45 haha.
Sophia does such a great job at keeping her own voice and also channeling the original singer, bad ass
Sofia is a national treasure!!
Awesome 😎✌️💚
Woman, how much fun did you just have?! I got chills.
I may just be a 57-year old victim of the lost 70s, the arrogant 80s and the youth anguish of the 90’s, but I hah of the 90’s, but I have nonetheless discovered a sophisticated appreciation for the sounds these kids have discovered. It is a sound that is both brazen and nuanced.. confrontational but soft edged.. aggressive but merciful.
This band has discovered the dried out skeletons of blues based rock, dusted them off with sensational horns and winds, and then reshaped them with stunningly powerful vocals, with bold arrangements and innovative presentation.
Yes, this old “classic” believes strongly in where this band is headed.
Oh and by the way, why the big deal about Sophie’s “stage antics”?
When I was your age, we recognized such performances as artful depictions of momentary “creative orgasms”, and NOT what many of the more hypocritical people have loudly called “offensive”and “degrading.”
Listen people!
We WANT artists to push the limits.
That’s what they do.
And little things like the Renaissance, The Industrial revolution of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, even the social and cultural events of the 60s all marched forward in step with revolutionaries who pushed boundaries.
Well done, Brass Against.
I really dig who you are.
I’m in.
Sophia Urista kills it again!
That sounds really good. It makes me want to listen to a Brass Against cover of Them Bones, it can be awesome.
Love your vocal prowess Sophia Urista
! Keep Rawkin!
love alice and love when sophia does these covers. She should put out grunge/hard rock/ metal album
She doesnt really sound like a rock singer
Grunge is the one you're looking for, like alice in chains, soundgarden, pearl jam etc
@@Larcona_ Why? Oh because she don't look like Lita Ford? You don't know shit! Black girls we rock as well.
Chills for days
Sophias vocals are next level!!
THIS is the kind of stuff they needed to give her to sing on The Voice. THIS does her justice.
Commenting before I play this for the first time just in case I get my mind blown listening
Phenomenal work guys. I played the trombone for ten years, all county and all State. I would have never conceived this kind of work. Damn fine work, damn fine.
Love you guys
Oh Hell yeah! Now his is "Rich"!
Steller performance & arrangement... Indeed! 👏👏👏
That was genuinely incredible, chills down the spine stuff.
I listened to this like 20 times in a row and I can say this song which was one of my all time favorites now has a new depth of meaning to me. Great Job.
This cover is what can only be described as belonging to the category 'Fucking Awesome'. Just if anyone asks where to put it in some archive.
GOT DAYAMN GIIRL!!! Them vocals!
BrasSophia is always click -> like -> watch.
She gets it !!! Great cover (vocals and instruments)
Please! Please, cover more chains!
"Man in the Box" as a starting point, perhaps?
...oooh, just not that, please
Jesus ...the band killed it. Her voice is perfect for this. Raw.
This cover completely changed my perception of this song and it's meaning, like speaking a common phrase in another language reveals a previously unrecognized intention.
Thank you for that.
Layne would be so proud. Killin' it BA.
This song belongs to every men that has carried that rifle... as they walked towards to the far horizon.
Absolutely. Magnificent.
unbelievable ! it's all my adolescence! ❤️
So this is the best cover of Rooster in existence
This is beautiful! Layne Staley would be proud! I bet AIC would love this if they haven't seen it yet. 🤘🖤🖤🖤
