Even if we are well late in 5th gen fighters and this will take another 5 years to realise it. But this definitely give India many derivative technology from this project. So it's welcome step. India just need big private companies involvement.
Yeah the benefits are far more as compared to the timeline if we would get it late or not. This will be gamechanger in future.

USA is working on F36 Kingsnake program by reviving delta wing F16 which was developed in 1980s. Even the Air chief of staff of the USAF said, “The F-35 is a Ferrari, the F-22 a Bugatti Chiron - the United States Air Force needs a Nissan 300ZX,” the article says--a plane that would upgrade faster and more easily, and “need not feature such exquisite technologies.” So, 4.5 or 5- generation aircrafts are still relevant.

1. It is still on the drawing table. Even the developmental work has not yet started.
2. All that the USAF plans to achieve with F35 can be achieved by India through the Super rafale and Rafale F5 upgrades.
3. It is an American program. Even if we neglect the string attached and long-term ramifications, it will be a completely new platform for the pilots, which have zero experience flying an American platform.
4. One more logistics supply chain will add to the complexities of logistics of the IAF
5. The investment into the Rafale and its ecosystem can not be justified with a small order of only 36 rafale. It won't be justified even if we consider the 25 Rafales being ordered by the Indian Navy.

Tejas is 4.5th Generation aircraft, it will be our Workshorse. Upgrading this version Every 1800hrs with sophisticated electronics and Techs will serve Indian Airforce.
No need to compare with Koreans, Turkey, Russia or US & China. If our Engineers and scientist able to give state of Art Aircraft to Airforce with Advanced tech within stupilated time, that's enough.

When amca and tedbf comes to mass production atleast we should have 60 to 75 aircraft production capacity per year and 40 amca fighter jets should be manufactured per year and iaf must concentrate on 300 to 400 amca fighter jets

Forget 42 squadrons. Considering current threats, we need more than 55 fighter squadrons to tackle both our enemies. Remember, in comming years even Bangladesh is going to pose same threat to us like Pakistan.
AMCA can't replace all our fighter squadrons. Apart from manufacturing cost, the maintenance cost as well as per hour flying cost are too high for a truly 5th gen fighter jet. About 250 to 300 units of 5th gen fighter platforms would make sense.
5th gen fighter jets are more usefull during the first few days of war. These aircrafts would be used to take out enemies air defence systems at first. After that our 4th & 4.5th gen fighter jets will do their job.

Air dominance is also an important factor in winning the war unfortunately we are not good in it when compared to superpowers !
The reason for America having such a small number of F-22s is that a) the Cold War had long since ended, b) they weren't required for fighting Taliban, c) China at the time didn't have the J-20, and d) they don't have China for a neighbour. Now that China is undoubtedly growing in power, they are investing heavily in B-21, NGAD (two different versions for the USAF & USN!!) and thousands of drones (MUM-T etc.). Despite the fact that they aren't neighbours with China (China can't bring the fight to their doorstep, even though USA can do the opposite).
As for the importance of air superiority: well, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict presents the perfect evidence for the extreme importance of achieving air superiority. Russia couldn't achieve air superiority, that is why it is having such a hard time in battle. If they had been able to achieve superiority in the early days, they whole conflict would have looked very different.
The plan for a newer generation of non-stealth fighters has been touted/proposed by General Brown, it isn't being actively pursued. Also, any such plan is only viable because because they'll have 1000s of F-35s. Definitely a high/low mix (USAF terminology) is advisable, but we only have a low/medium mix at this point. And on top of that are lacking in numbers.
For 6th Gen fighter - if we once again don't want to be 40 years late to the party - we should partner with one of the two European programs right now. Shared cost, shared risk, larger guaranteed market. As there are two suitors, we should be able to get a good deal.

F21 also known as F16IN block 70/72 super viper was LM's proposed fighter for India's MRCA program. It would have been built in India if selected but instead Rafale was selected.

F-35 is supposed to replace 5 totally different types of aircraft ( f-16 point defense fighter, f-15 strike fighter, a-10 ground attack aircraft, f-18 Carrier based fighter , Bae harrier jump jet fighter ). In practice it's impossible to replace all these roles in a single platform.
F-35 will be the work horse of the USAF, USN and USMC despite its high maintenance cost and lacking. F-35 will reduce the overall training and maintenance cost as a whole. F-15 EX might or might not be procured in a limited numberand USAF rejected F-16V and USN F-18 SUPER HORNET BLOCK 3.

Indian air defence need basic major requirement is engine without knowing the engine tech and designing the jet engine is like constructing the building without the base so indian scientist showcase their knowledge in engine technology to participate with private sector to achieve the goal for self reliance otherwise india has to spend more money for buying a aircraft carrier to avoid this need to bring high thrust engine with private participation within a few month to showcase their indian scientist skill and talent with 130 kn prototype engine to world and also export our engine required globally by mastering of engine tech if not indian can loose economic growth in space sector by the loosing servicing and maintenance contract globally

F-22 is not a failure, it is still the most deadly aircraft in the sky.
