Progress on kavery engine shows some hope of India's own fighter jet engines.
And the olatform can later on be successfully employed to develop more powerfull engines.
But the process needs to be get faster than what it is now.
Worst decision was to stop kaveri funding. How someone can think others can give their crucial technology easily?

Both AL-31 & RD-33 can be improved First without meddling with the high pressure high temperature core Later with core improvements Russia itself has progressed since with FADEC, plasma ignition, variable geometry fans etc apart from core improvements This is actually a lower risk venture than everything from grounds up

@@james4807M NATO doesn’t share military technology among its members, they sell weapons. Its a business for American companies. Banana khud ko hi padta hai, just like turkey is doing. Govt will chahiye. Jab tak Indian govt allow hi nai karegi to koi kyu aayega. Many companies are willing but policies hi nai hai.
@@sandeeproy4820 Turkey makes f16 component including engine. They have direct access with nato military companies. They don't come under technology denial list. India companies only want to Collab with foreign companies that way they can get more commission. They have no interest in making any technology especially technology like jet engine. Pvt companies are not even capable of AL-31 kind copy-paste 'indigenization' (which is all the 'indigenization' they do in other areas , barring a few exceptions) when it comes to aero-engines Can't even build a car engine from scratch yet 😅

AMCA is a classic case , now we are so much behind the race , once Pakistan acquire these fifth generation fighters from China or Turkey , then Indian government and air force will run like jokers all over the world for imports.
For us defence matters are the least priority for any government.
We let others to go ahead , and then we wait till the emergency comes, and then we run all over the world for imports, probably this way some money people makes in between through commissions.

I think you forgot about core engine technology!! We don't have that either from Russia or from any Western ones.
India should do a cost benefit analysis of cost to buy 3 Russian engines vs 2 US GE F404/414 engines and then decide as to delaying projects is a good trade off while waiting for USA to provide them tech transfer.

नही ऐसा नही है चीन का J 20 k liye Jo नया ws 15 engine hai wo 180kn kn थ्रस्ट तक दे रहा है जो उसके किसी रूसी engine वेरिएंट लाइक al 41 ki कैटेगरीws 10c se ज्यादा है अलग है
अब कोई ये ना कहे की WS 15 रूसी Izdyliye 30 की कॉपी है
तो ये रूसी इंजन जब अभी रूसी aicraft में active नही है तो चीन कहा से ले गया
चीन से सच में अग्रणी और शानदार काम किया है। हमे मानना होगा
Thrust ज्यादा होना मतलब ये नहीं की इंजन बढिया है, इस हिसाब से ge414 ya ej200 से बढ़िया इंजन ws10 ya al41 होना चाहिए। ज्यादा बड़े इंजन से ज्यादा thrust मिलेगा लेकिन उसकी life cycle cost या overhaul कॉस्ट भी ज्यादा होती है। अभी china का स्तर रूस के इंजन के लेवल का नहीं है अमेरिका या uk भूल जाए। ws 10 के इंजन की overhaul time मात्र 300 hr है जबकि ge414 का 2000 hr है। अगर चाइना के इंजन इतने बढ़िया होते तब jf17 में rd33 इंजन नहीं लगे होते, कितने j10 के crash हुए है ws10 से जो mainstream media में आया नहीं। अभी रूस के स्तर तक पहुचने में चीन को 10 साल लगेगें ,अमेरिकी तो 20/25 साल आगे है, thrust पर मत जाए, वो 1990 में रूस ने 122 kn ka al31 बना लिया था, लेकिन भारतीय वायुसेना आज भी मिराज 2000 को ज्यादा इसीलिए पसंद करती है क्युकी ये हल्के और ज्यादा reliable इंजन है, चाइना अभी बढ़िया ड्रोन के इंजन बना नहीं पा रहा, jet engine अभी बहुत दूर की बात है लेकिन चाइना के पास पैसे है इसलिए काम चलाने वाला इंजन चोरी वगैरह कर बना लेगा। metallurgy आप कॉपी नहीं कर सकते इसलिए चीन पीछे है नहीं फिर j11 j15 जो रूस की कॉपी है, इंजन बना लेता। एक और बात al41 इंजन को चीन ने रूस से मांगा था 2018 में लेकिन रूस ने मना कर दिया था

That's the point If you are (supposedly) developing the tech for the Kaveri why not use it in other areas It's not like we will develop a high thrust AL-41 right away BUT can be used to (incrementally) improve the AL-31 to the extent possible Thus giving us an upgraded engine which can be totally fabricated here

instead of wasting 10 to 15 years building a new engine from scratch, we should make licenced copies of Russian engine and use it in tejas and amca, once we get sufficient confidence then build new engines parallelly.

Since India has access to technology of both Russia and the west we should try to build a hybrid engine by combining the best of both.
Now the most modern engines are the AL-51F1 second stage engines for the Su-57. To understand, these engines allow you to fly in afterburner mode at maximum speed throughout the flight. In terms of dimensions and power/control systems, they are very similar to the SU-30 engines, but all characteristics are +30 percent. If India has money, then it should buy. Russia will sell it to you at cost anyway.
The MTBO ( Mean time between overhaul) of all Russian engines is poor as compared to western engines. This is a real issue and adverse remark on all Russian engines..

We have an engine, development with France is also going on, we are improving our existing engine and home manufacturing of Russian and American engines, we are impatient and neglecting towards defence - it's rarely a matter of elections or pvt player lobbies, remember America became what it is today by heaps of corruption and lobbying - in house and abroad, we have corruption but in the wrong hands.

Do you know how much money GOI had given for Kaveri program? - 100 crores. Less than a third of the cost of a single fighter jet.
If u make unlicensed copy by reverse engineering this engine, yoh wont have to pay for IP rights to Russia and so that will reduce the cost...
Then you will have to setup a certification agency, create process around it etc which will be a larger cost

Reverse engineering isn't as easy as it seems. So many of us might have old bikes or cars in our house then why after a while they buy a new one rather than making better version of it on their own (With Reverse Engineering). IRL things are not that easy.
