@blog2153 They are not giving orders and still expect faster delivery. This is complete non-sense. Also, you can not forget the comments of the ex-defence minister regarding the requirements of the Indian forces w.r.t their indigenous projects. Also, their are reports where the foreign drones that were inducted as they were better than Tapas have been found to have capabilities below Tapas in real life. So, the forces have to be blamed equally.
@@blog2153M777 were inducted after barrel bursts during the testing of Indian army. ATAGS orders have been delayed for years just because their was a single barrel burst. So, isn't this different standards for two different systems one indigenous and on foreign which are expected to do the same.

Although I may sound outlandish here, I feel we Indians as a civilization have always prioritized economic well being over defence matters.That is the reason why throughout history, India was rich but a prime target for invaders and we generally failed to stop all the invasions.That same mindset is still embedded in our political, military, bureaucratic, technocratic classes and even general public even today with no sense of urgency in defence related matters. Our responses have been knee jerk and a vast majority of our population could not be more bothered about defence related issues.That is the basic reason for the delay in all indigenous projects as well as procurement issues from all the stakeholders.

What happened in Marut's case it was delayed and delayed and then cancelled even egypt was ready in development and manufacturing cooperation. Who to blame. What about the dysfunctional ordinance factory s which has resulted in more troops casualties that what we experienced in war because of faulty or poor weapons and equipment quality. Why did HAL delayed all su30's. I live in nashik and let me tell you one thing HAL attitude towards its job is very different than what it was earlier. I have family members and friends working there and they tell us how things have changed tell stories how the administration is very serious and how negligence is handled now vs earlier. Ordinance factory is the same story Insas Design was never bad but the manufacturing was soo poor that it always malfunction which gave it bad reputation. Now they are being scrutinized.

DM is to Blame. He is the leader who should be driving all these projects on full throttle. He doesn’t seem to be interested in his job the way Railways is serious about their work. We have seen tremendous improvement in Rail, IT, Semiconductors, telecom, roads, ports, civil aviation sectors. But Def Min is not at all interested in pushing the timelines and aggressive about defence R&D.
The root causes of this problems is our defence sector R&d, production and other important functions are still PREDOMINANTLY under the public sector where Accountability and performance management are not the most important among the criterias for retaining your jobs.

Instead of facing constant embarrassment about AMCA, the IAF, ADA, and HAL should focus on developing Tejas MK2 and TEDBF that are achievable solutions to our depleting squadrons. They are wasting time and money on something that will be decades behind its competitors. We are snailing behind everyone.

I hold only HAL responsible for all of this, the institute that worked proactively in the Soviet era, fell away by being masters of miscommunication post Soviet era. That HAL cannot fully understand the forces requirents and goes to 'reinvent the wheel', everytime the forces identify tech shortcomings and raise requirement.

Continuous evolving over expectations of IAF are also a major huddle in development of a certain spacific base model of any plane over which further enhancement can be made.

It's simple - PSU's are run by parasitic, unionised workforces - who cannot be fired, have assured salaries & pensions - now what motive do they have to work or achieve any targets?
Whether they succeed or fail, work hard or hardly work their salaries etc are assured - so why work?
All the cutting edge defence products are made by private firms - whether it's Dassault, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon etc - bcoz they are driven by a profit motive & they will only make money if their products succeed & are in demand.

But they wanted to concentrate on managing headlines' instead of sorting out the issues at hand . this govt added only 36 new fighters while 5-6 squadrons were number plated. Anyone who is from the Services background knows that the PSU do not perform on time if at all , So what's more important getting the Airforce up to strength or making them wait while you sort out development and logistical issues?

It's March 10, 2024 and the first flight of Tejas MK1A not done yet. After that it will be inducted by IAF. Then Mk2 will come at 2027? Induction 2032? AMCA will come with first flight 2028? and induction 2035?
This is a long term story...we just got bored.... at 2035...china will make at least 2 types of 5th gen fighter 300 each and will sell some dozens....
A country like India has the production capacity of 16-24 airframe per year, whereas Chinese J-20 and US F-35 has 48 & 150, respectively
When the Nashik Production line will start? what about the production line of HJT-36? Why Govt not giving enough fund to develop Kaweri Engine?

Additional order given for the Tejas MK1A is a setback as the goal was always MK2 that is needed to keep the edge over the adversaries. Government doesn’t look committed to MRFA as Rafale was always the choice. They could have combined Airforce & Navy requirement together & negotiated on a bigger order. Worst case scenario, we should procure additional Sukhoi 30 MKI to fix the falling squadron strength . With the upgrade they will be quite a formidable aircraft..

As we already had selected rafales in MRFA competition
There was no point in doing another bidding competition
Giving order of 114 rafales with local production made more sense
Negotiations should've been done to reduce per aircraft cost...
If the dassault rejected the negotiations
Then we should have done MMRCA 2 with eliminating RAFALE

lol , there are no sympathies for DRDO , HAL and defence PSUs . LCA was rolled out in 2001 , 23 years later we still don’t have an operational squadron. LCA is at best a stage 2 trainer / light fighter which was made to replace MiGs. It only serves as a point defence airplane . We still have MiGs , 29 included , flying . If it was any other state , the other officials responsible would be sacked .DRDO is a drain on the tax payer. They weren’t able to make an assault rifle, don’t expect them to make fighter planes . Tejas is an assortment of systems from US, France , Russia , Israel and India. Lockheed , Dassault , BAE systems are of these firms were consulted during design phase of Tejas . It flies with an Israeli radar , British mission computer , Israeli and Russian missiles and an American engine . No wonder the complexity of integrating systems from various sources . It’s a broth made with the help of too many cooks.

The emergency procurement argument is kinda weak. Would have made sense if forces were pro indigenous before and post Galwan they felt indigenous wasn't enough and they decided to import. The fact of the matter is, it was all due to bad planning and maybe operational capability gaps. They were importing all along.
Atmanirbharta or indigenous weapons is a very recent phenomenon and won't be wrong to say is a post COVID phenomenon. And forces are still not completely on board. Only the govt and fans online hype this idea. Glad that GOI is now splashing the money.
