    This video is the build process of my plate boat.
    I go from the truck arriving with the flat-pack on the back right through to the boat being on the water.

    Hello, My name is Jarrett and I live here in the U.S.. I have been looking at making my own boat, of course I don't know how to weld. I am planning on taking a welding class at a local community college. I know I have a ton of questions, the first is, do you have an idea of how many hours of welding you have into the boat?
    Your video in my opinion is the best that I have seen, it get's right to the point and actually shows how you did it. No disrespect to all of the others, but you took us through your process in under 10 minutes. I tried watching another, it had three parts, each about 30 minutes, the boat looked really cool but all I really learned was what the guy's feelings were. Anyhow, I like your work.

      Hey Jarrett
      Thanks for the comment
      Stoked to hear you have been looking into building your own. Here in Australia there are a few businesses that sell the kit boats and also run a welding course, So you can buy the kit and welding gear off them, learn to weld through them and also have them there for advice throughout the build. Not sure if you have something similar in the U.S. but I always thought that was the ideal way to get it done without prior experience :)
      Hours.... I wouldn't know where to start.... What I will say is whatever you think it will be double it hahaha!!
      There would be a few hundred hours in the welding but in my opinion the grinding and clean up etc. is where the time is haha!!
      Thankyou heaps for good feedback I really appreciate it.
      I was hoping to keep it to the point, and quick- Glad it worked.
      Let me know if you have any other questions

    you are not a boatbuilder, you do not know terms even, but you succeeded, well done. After 50 years i still mark my plates by hand, sure the plates are now developed by CAD , but i'd never trust some company or other to cut them by cutfiles
    by the way how much did you pay the designer

    in regards to towing weight, i,m guessing your 79 tows it, does the 79 have the standard 3.5ton maximum tow capacity? how much does the boat weigh and the trailer? thanks much.

    • @MattyRacingLife
      @MattyRacingLife  11 місяців тому +1

      Hey mate
      We weighted it full of fuel on the trailer but with no gear and it came in at 3.51t
      Keeping in mind it holds 720l of fuel
      I just tried to not tow it full too far to kind of balance the extra weight of the gear once loaded if that makes sense.
      In terms of performance- 79 and even my work hilux towed it just fine

    Hey mate what was your level of experience with welding before taking this on?

    • @MattyRacingLife
      @MattyRacingLife  2 роки тому +1

      The guy who welded the boat was honestly pretty experienced.
      He is a very competent welder and we used some scrap aluminium to get use to the new welder/ different types of aluminium.
      If you have not done it before and are not competent I would absolutely suggest doing a welding/ fab course of some type
      Not sure where you are located but there are a few options

    Nice one Matty , I've been looking at CNC Marine kits and my father in law and myself are really interested. He's an panel beater from the old school and manufacturer who knows his way, so I'm pretty lucky there. But it will be a new experience for both of us. Cheers for your construction and sharing it. Great motivation mate! Enjoy your hard earned fruits of your labour :)

    How long did the alloy build phase take you, and was it just your self or how many buddy’s helped you with the fitting ?
    Have you built boats before ? I did watch the full video, maybe I missed these questions
    Thanks man

    • @FindingMatty
      @FindingMatty 6 місяців тому

      Hey mate
      From memory, the actual alloy phase was about 2 months, we had the boat on the water in 5ish- from memory
      It was super quick, and quicker than I would probably suggest haha!!
      Not because we rushed anything, just because the build took up our whole lives for them months, it was literally work, then head to the boat.
      We would regularly get to the workshop and camp there for the weekend putting in wild days…. But we wanted it done haha
      Just one mate really, and he was the brains of the operation not me, that’s for sure haha
      He had built one smaller boat, another kit and was a very competent welder, he really was the reason it came together so well I just cut stuff up and used a grinder haha!!
      In my opinion, if you can manage the welding side of it, and are some what practical minded it would be possible without doing one previously
