My response is straightforward: I will never go in his pubs. For the same reason, I will never buy a Dyson.
I will never go to his pubs ever too
Me neither. He treated his staff poorly. And I despise all the Brexit evangelists.
I go to his pubs to feel good looking. X
@@thediscokiddand young
Seconded.
Says the man who had to close half his pubs and complained about not being able to get staff.
Wasn't that more because of COVID?
Tim has not closed half his pubs and there has been an Europe and indeed global staff shortage crisis since the pandemic, not just in this country. Nothing to do with brexit.
@@scran7346 It certainly contributed. But you can't just ignore the fact that lots of service workers were young people from EU countries. And he's still a Tory (I have a word for this space)
He cleared that one in this interview.
@@phillpotts9047 Was it worth listening to? Brexit justifiers get on my nerves too much.
The crucial thing is the definition of "we".
If "we" means the very rich, well they are doing better after Brexit. They now have control over the country and can get rid of laws that make life better for ordinary people. As in removing the right to strike, removing laws against polluting rivers, removing consumer protection laws, removing employment protection laws (that one is very important for Tim Martin).
Absolutely true, there must be literally many millions excluded from Tim Martin's "we".
Hmm, unlike the very rich of the political and media/arts world who did all they could to thwart Brexit. Big business did well out of cheap labour from EU. Polluting rivers is not really anything to do with Brexit is it. It's down to one of the many quango's (so beloved of Labour) who can't do their job properly, and of course a political class who can't do their job properly because they haven't had to. Rubber stamping EU directives is easy, having to run things on their own, shows just how useless they are.
@@heathercooper6043 The only ones threatening to thwart brexit where brexiteers like you who demanded to be heard while having nothing to actually say.
And that cheapl labour is the only reason people like you can still compete for a job. And the EU had higher standards for our quality of water as well as a effective monitoring agency. Not something the government can just replace with no preparation, especially have made underfunding government services in to their favourite past time
Dishonest as all of the rich brexitiers
Unlike the honesty of all the politicians and assorted people doing very well on the EU gravy train. No wonder they dug their heels in. So you've lost your job because of Brexit then I assume??
@@heathercooper6043 you shouldn’t assume. Go with facts - that’s why you voted for this Brexit mess.
Tell me, which promises materialised?
@@MrOliver1444 self-governance. Why has Euro sceptic politicians like Girt Wilders and Meloni been elected to office and now it it looks like Marine Le Pen is close to a huge victory in the European elections in France? @@Bob-nd2mrnobody can move on from Brexit. It is still affecting everyone. War has nothing to do with Brexit. Our allies and our commitments haven't changed due to Brexit. 🙄
Ah yes Tim Martin, the guy who kept posting covid conspiracy posters.
To be honest, I think the country could literally be on fire and he would still say Brexit was a good thing
There you go! Our country is on fire and here's Tim.
Prior to Brexit, pretty much 100%, if not all, of Wetherspoon's customers had the right to retire in the sun. Today, pretty much 0% of Wetherspoon's customers have the right to retire in the sun. Well done everyone!
Clacton is underrated
What nonsense. People retired in the sun if they could afford it before EU, people worked abroad before EU. The fact that a lot of people lost jobs because of freedom of movement is of little interest to you? The fact of a nation being conned into the reality of what EU is a centralised blob handing out directives as to how all its constituent parts must obey, is of little concern to you in comparison. People are still retiring to the sun.
@@heathercooper6043The brevity of my response is to save my time.
@heathercooper6043 After Brexit the Torys opened up the flood gates to even cheaper workers, they even changed the law so immigrant workers can be paid 20% less than UK workers (driving down wages, something illegal before Brexit). So yes, what about the UK workers suffering due to Brexit?? Are you going to apologise for the Johnson Brexit disaster???
@@heathercooper6043And now after Johnsons Brexit, only the relatively rich can retire to the sun..

Brexit is the reason for people feeling so depressed, we have become small and isolated as an Island. I want my country back, in the heart of global trade in the heart of Europe.
EU is not in the heart of global trade. You could of course go and live there, it wouldn't be too difficult.
@@heathercooper6043that’s simply not true, uk citizens have the same rights to live or work in Europe as a Nigerian. You cannot unless you have a strong reason
It is terrible to hear you continue to defend Brexit. It has tanked the UK in every way. @@heathercooper6043
@@heathercooper6043 Except for the UK it is. There are 3 global trade powers. The US, The EU and China. And only one of those is close enough for effective trade. And before you go "lots of countries outside the EU blablabla" Either already had excellent trade deals with them under the EU or they are to Broke to present any real benefit

I wouldn’t set foot in one of his seedy dives even if it were the only pub in town.
He's deluded
Not so much deluded as full of what the Tories allow water companies to pump into waterways.
Sounds half cut, too.
Why? Are you sure you are not just being led by the nose into thinking anyone defending Brexit is automatically wrong because Brexit didn't suit the establishment? Most of the political establishment didn't want Brexit, it will expose them as the useless fools they are. It's one thing to just turn up and rubber stamp EU directives, quite another to have to prove your worth on your own. Champagne socialists of media & arts world also good at telling the 'little man' the sky would fall in if we left the EU. Then there is big business and cheap labour!!!! Some liked the EU gravy train for sure.
If he can't understand why young people aren't staying out late drinking and clubbing. Then that tells me that he's out of touch with people. It's because everybody's skint, mate, partly because of your precious Brexit.
People are skint because so many people thought closing down an economy a good idea, while the Chancellor splashed the cash for everyone to stay home and oh of course money handed out to 'eat out and help out' What you thought all that would be for free??? Who was going to pay?? Then of course we have the Bank of England selling Bonds at ludicrous knock down prices, but don't worry the tax payer shells out for the losses. Then there is the incompetent OBR, can't get a yearly forecast correct, and the idiots in charge take their lead on a 5yr forecast (Hmm who else had 5 yr forecasts) So more taxes to be paid. The biggest issue is that we have a political class regardless of the rosette colour, stuffed to the gills with those who are barely middle management competency, now running a country that they couldn't care less about, and haven't got a clue how to. Over 40 years of just having to turn up and be paid to rubber stamp EU directives has left us in a sorry state and no wonder none of the political class wanted Brexit.
I refuse to give any custom to Wetherspoon’s because of Martin and his support for Brexit.
I haven't set foot in a Wetherspoons since Brexit!!
The perfect Tory mode of = I'm alright Jack. What a sociopath.

Ask him how much Brexit has cost the UK so far - The official government figures estimate the Brexit losses are twice the cost of Covid with zero dividends.
Some people are just too stubborn to admit how dumb they were listening to Boris the clown , the man who didn’t want to leave but only done it so he could be king of England then make a complete disaster of everything he touched 😂
Tim said we were going to get cheap orange juice after Brexit, I'm still waiting for mine.
This guy is one the biggest poster boys as to why Brexit was a bad idea that I've ever seen.
We don't vote for the president of the EU and we don't vote for the prime minister of the UK. This was a reason to leave EU. I don't see him calling for a reform of the UK voting system.
The Prime minister is normally standing asking for votes from the public during an election. The EU President and entire EU commission aren't. The commission aren't even legally accountable to the Parliament in Brussels. Parliament in London could remove the UK government. The EU Parliament can't remove the EU Commission or any part of it.
@@colbr6733you vote for an MP in your constituency, that’s all. Then hope the party you voted for via said MP wins. If not you are stuck for five years or whenever is in power calls an election, then the whole merry go round starts again.

A poorer population will lead to higher market share for whetherspoons, what a patriot
This man is such an absolute disgrace
If there was a "Never get high on your own supply" campaign he'd be the mascot.
Ahahahaha
Absolute Brexchimp!
Tim Martin clearly has a 'Daily Express reader' level of understanding of the role of EU president. What a shame he had the power to push Brexit self harm.
British people don't vote for their PM. So, is the UK not a democracy? Just as in the UK, the European people vote for parties. The next EU-election is coming up in June this year. And it's a fixed date, not just sometime whenever the people in power at the time feel it suits them.
I dumped Wetherspoons at the beg of 2020 just before Covid started. I can count on 1 hand the amount of time Ive been in one since. I tend to avoid the food these days as they put the prices up & cut the portions. Support Good local independent pubs.
Is that why there is only one out of three Wetherspoons still open in Croydon?
Low unemployment, low wages and productivity, low levels of training, and academic achievement.
The man is blind to the Brexit damage he wanted.
How long can these people pretend that enforcing trade sanctions on itself was not a great move for the UK?
Chief Gammon: Everything is fine and we are actually doing better than before we left.
Everyone with more than two brain cells to rub together: Why is my sovereignty not feeding my family?
I've worked in the hotel business for 25 years and its funny how Tim Martin and Rocco Forte are always wheeled out to try and show the benefits of Brexit to the hospitality industry when they are quite possibly the only two 'well known' people within the industry who actually think that, because they can't get anyone else in the business to defend it. I've yet to see the owner of the Ritz, the manager of Bolton Abbey or the supervisor of the executive hospitality suite at Liverpool FC come out and say how wonderful Brexit is when the majority view, because of widespread evidence, is that it's been a shower of **** for the sector.
People are so depressed that they are going to his pub to get wasted and forget the whole mess.
I will never go in a Wetherspoons again. Awful places full of desperate types
Ha! Ha! Ha! What a plonker, ask the farmers and any other trader what they think about brexit.
What the Farmers who were being paid by the EU not to ..........errr Farm??
I thought he was going to say, for a minute people that drink in his pubs are above average intelligence😂
As someone who has spoken to many Spoons managers and staff. I know that Spoons struggles for staff and staff retention.
Sourcing food products has become far more difficult.
The fact that some of his pubs are about to shut up contradicts his positives.
As if he would say anything else
Interesting that he talks about Brexit being all about "Democracy". In which case I look forward to seeing his support for Scottish Independence .... of course he probably won't because he's a hypocrite
Never mind the experts - listen to the bloke down the pub.
Nothing seems to have changed since brexit tbh
What an awful example of an ignorant British businessman completely oblivious to what he's helped to do to this country. People are probably drinking more because they're more miserable.
Welcome to Wetherspoons new pub " The Lunatic's Arms"
And then Tim Martin and the Brexiteers (sounds like a band name) woke up from their dream...
Wetherspoons have the atmosphere of a work's canteen , they only attract those who want cheap beer!
A lot of people simply can't afford £6+ for a pint, obviously you can - good for you. There are plenty of places for you to buy an over priced pint from.
Never been in a spoons since Brexit.
The old Egyptian river De-Nile. 😂
Which European economies did UK outdo?
Well after 25 years of visiting weatherspoons my solid observation is the range and quality of food has gone down recently + the cost has gone up- and for strange reasons! My visit to the Fort William Weatherspoons was shocking by the totally awfully expensive prices! The range of food also has narrowed as my fav lamb shank & mash is gone, as are most soup and yet I found last year a few totally outstanding weatherspoons for beer value & quality such as in Hemel Hempstead😅, clearly since 'Covid' what is offered in a weatherspoons is 'less' and for a higher price, but then again I noticed almost everywhere in the UK is expensive.
Don't worry Tim, the honours system was already in disrepute. I've never been to a good Weatherspoon's, apart from Bury St Edmunds which is a very nice place.
Wetherspoons doing well? It must be the cheap beer - the only beer many people can afford.
Having this traitor on has made me un-subscribe
Oh dear!
I never voted in the referendum, I don't care if we're in or out of the EU. Though the benefits of Brexit have never been used to its full potential and I don't think it ever will be under a Tory or Labour government.
Whether you're a leave or remain voter, you can't deny it has exposed how badly run Britain has been. Worst generation of mps ever in parliament, civil service completely useless and should all be sacked. We have no self sufficiency in anything. Net zero dragging us into an even more dangerous reliance on foreign imports. Let's stop the division on Brexit now, we should be more concerned with not exploiting it to its full potential and becoming as self sufficient as we humanly can be with food, energy and manufacturing.
One thing I will say the Brexit group lied about. That was immigration and deportations. In the EU we could deport anyone within 3 months if they didn't find work and all the Tories did was change European immigration (which I didn't mind) to Indian, Pakistani etc etc.
Correct me if I'n wrong, but can't the Irish cone and go as they please? And we don't elect our PM either.
Yes we can,and Brits can do the same in Ireland...its called the common travel area...in existence for 100+ years.Lots of Brits in Ireland and welcome they are too.

Great Interview. Love Tim, talks so much sense.
No, Tim is an idiot, he loves the limelight. my advice to Tim is to stay away from TV interviews concentrate on business and keep your trap shut. You have turned a lot of the public against you.
He's clearly not thick, built a large business, so must have something. But he's selective, our GDP per head fell in 2023, so we created less wealth. On average, wages went up by 5.8% in 2023, but inflation by 7.5% so people were worse off. Low unemployment, low wages ...... He doesn't care though.
“Like we do with try the Irish?”

The answer to the conundrum Tim posed (low unemployment but scarcity of workers for some businesses) is that millions are still living off state benefits. many too have retired and will live off their pensions until they have run out then it will be over to the tax payer.

Fine. And who cares in Europe, as we are also fine since Brexit.
Tim Martin is actually a very nice person shame he was the cause of Brexit.
If Tim Martin is so concerned about the democratic deficit, how come he lives in a country where he dosen't vote for the head of state, anyone in the house of Lords, or the PM and unless he votes for the winning candidate in a general election, his vote isignored.
He's lost so many staff and closed so many pubs. Yeah, he's doing well. Just like all those British farmers and fishermen who're counting the cost of brexit on their businesses.
He talks like he's had a breakfast pint or two.
He's paid over 6bn in tax and employs 40,000 people, can't understand why people don't like him
