The owner of that bike finally got some good fortune in that you were the one to do the repairs. Absolute surgical precision Del. Massive respect for the care you put into every detail. (the tape on the splines to slide the new seal into place, just one of many examples) Nice to see a happy ending. Love the shop press by the way. What a nice bit of kit. Many thanks, Del and Penny. Blessings to you both. ❤👍👍
Hi Rick, thank you so much for your kind words as always, we're really glad you enjoyed it, it was a long day and great to get the bike finished and back on the road! Enjoy your weekend there, we hope it's not too cold, D&Px
Been great to watch this series on the Harley Davidson servicing and makeover. You would make an excelent teacher at any college in that everything you do is interesting to watch. Thanks for all your videos Dell, much appreciated. Vinny. 👍
Very nice. Thank you. I love the editing of this video. Some things just don't need to be verbalized. Preventative maintenance is what keeps a vehicle safe and dependable. It beats the hell out of being broke down on the side of the road.
Bro when you drew the primary on cardboard and put the bolts in it!! 🤯 damn that was genius . You’ve saved me quite a few times with my CBR and now on my Streetglide
Hi Del, I have watched your videos for a long time since you were back in the first garage with the moister problems and then building the rat rod camping trailer. And i just want to tell you that I miss your commentary and explaining things. Not really sure why you stopped maybe because some not so nice person had some not so nice things to say. IDK but you should just be you. You have so much knowledge and passion about motorcycles you can pass on to people its a shame that you don't explain more. Like the reverse threads or the special socket you need for the compensator nut. or the process you used to get the old one off. Any ways Thanks for the video I appreciate all the effort you put into it.
Hi David, thank you so much for your kind words of support and your long term loyalty. There have been some dramatic changes over the years, not only is our Channel different to what it used to be, but You Tube itself has changed so much... there are toxic people who freeload off others and berate the work of well intentioned content, but also we've endured many personal changes over the years, not least my health most notably. And of course with 1,500+ videos online, there aren't many things we haven't covered, and explained, in detail multiple times. Sometimes we find it's well recieved and popular to just 'get on with the work' and cut out the waffle and let viewers enjoy the visual. Thank you again for your kind support.
HD always amazes me: All the parts look huge and heavy. But since they've been in business for the last 120 years, they must be right ;-) Good that the story with this particular bike has come to a good end. Enjoy your weekend, Günter/Nürnberg
Great to see it on the road! Hopefully the owner has got the result they wanted, regardless whoever they are they are blessed to have you work on it. Watching this helps others understand the value of good mechanics and why it shouldn’t be cheap.
Excellent video Del & Penny. Great job mate and a long job, you will have one happy customer with his nice new belt and sprockets. Nice to see it finally back on the road. Penny and you have a great weekend and take care. PS it's 39C here today hope the weather holding for you over that side. Cheers
Thanks mate👍, glad you enjoyed it, and it's now in the hands of its owner, back on the road.. Weather has finally turned here, frost over night, and rain & wind tomorrow... so it looks like that's it till spring..lol! but hey ho, we're British, if you don't ride in the rain here then you have a pretty short riding season.!! You take care too mate and watch out for that sunburn..lol! D&Pxx
I have to change the compensator on my 09 fxstc and it's one of the most dreadful jobs I have ever thought of attempting on my bikes... Just getting the parts in Europe is a chore, but some bikes just deserve the headache. You're a master Del, you made it look easy!
Good luck with your compensator change buddy, it is a bit of a job, but i guess it's only nuts and bolts, there's nothing complexed about it. have fun and enjoy the journey aye !
Great video Del, I'm glad it was all sorted out in the end but seeing all that made me appreciate my chain and sprockets even more. Best wishes to you both from NZ.
Sure thing mate it's a good job that they last a lot longer than chains, you wouldn't want to be doing this every few years! Thank you for your kind words, enjoy your weekend there!
Great video... very to the point and very informative. At risk of being a D..K I noticed at 8:02 of the video the small washer on the swing arm shaft bushing (under the nut) may be in backwards. My 03 RK manual says the washer one side recess faces in.... not out. Let me apologize in advance if I'm mistaking......I just did the bushing replacements on my 03 and then did an alignment. Respect...TJ (NY) as if you couldn't tell...😊
Great video and a perfect pace. I'm just surprised you didn't replace the old compensator; they are a known point of trouble. Mine failed completely and I had to install the "screaming eagle" version to keep it from doing so again.
Love your edits Del and Penny really professional looking, the look and feel of a proper television production. Only thing is I have forgotten the purpose of the hairdryer. I haven't used one in years 😅 Great video as always x
Ha ha, i guess as an item like that becomes less use at home we can repurpose it for better things..lol! Thank you for your kind words of support and encouragement as always brother.. stay safe and God bless..D&Px
My 99 roadking has an aftermarket rear wheel and I believe it doesn't have any cush washers shown @ 9:48. Will this cause me any problems? Thanks good video
Excellent Job in showing all the stages that's needed. I was just wanting know how much the job would cost me if I had a go at doing it my self on flstn 08.
The sheer size and weight of the parts on those bikes is certainly something to behold. Each component you touched looks half the size of the engine on my bikes. Have a great weekend
Dang, I'm glad I still own my Victory Magnum, I just have to drop the exhaust on one side and remove the belt cover to replace my drive belt. I'm also glad that my two Street Glides I had before my Victory I never had to replace the belts on either of them also! I bet this is expensive at a DH dealership to replace? Good job!
Hope all interested parties are satisfied with the outcome of this disagreement. Absolutely certain that the owner of the E Glide is over the moon with the care, quality, and competence of your repair work. Great video! Kudos on some tricky camera challenges met! And brilliant editing, as always!
Thank you so much Guy, we're glad you approve, it was a long day, but constant progress and we tried to be creative with the filming and make it interesting!
I was giving all my attention and this was very helpful but i probably couldn't do it. Seems like it is a job for the real harley mechanic not an amateur
I would say that with a job like this, even following it step by step, a knowledge of motorcycle mechanics and a bit of expertience with bike servicing would certainly be an advantage for sure..
Thank you « Delboy » very usefull vidéo. I wich I can change the belt ( no more dents on it I wonder how I rode it for my last trip ending in my garage big mystere ) on my FXR 86 that fast in 20’ . Great job. Take care of you guys
Any regular tool kit will have pretty much everything you need, plus a couple of small jacks to support the back of the gearbox and the frame.... the one main item you probably wont have is the long reach 2-1/4" socket to tighten the front sprocket nut..!
Forgive me for being an armchair mechanic, but was the snap ring at 16:20 fully seated? From the 3 o'clock to the 6 o'clock position it doesn't look like its in the groove.
Whew thats some load work . How long shoul u expect to get out of belt an pullys if looked after rite? Good job on video edit u made it look if it only took wee while to sort bike. We know it took longer tho
As regards belt life, if you look after it and ride considerately, Harley claim as much as 100k miles, but I doubt this, the belt will decay more with age, so you'd need to be doing that mileage quickly and not over 20yrs, but in reality and the 'real world', 50k isn't difficult and 70k if you ride carefully! It's all about how you treat it... Thanks for your kind words on the video, your'e right, it was a very long day!
That`s one hell of a lot of work to change it all, you don`t have to do all that to change the chain and sprockets on most other bikes. No wonder it costs a fortune to do.
Your videos are so valuable. I have a Softail M8. On the swing arm there is an opening closed by 2 bolts. I thought it was to made to make it easier to change the belt but apparently you still have to drop the swing arm. I wonder what is the purpose of that? Cheers
Hello, I congratulate you, it seems to me that you do an excellent and detailed job, it would help me if you could tell us the torque that you apply to each nut and screws or you would help us to know where we can get the torques that each part carries, thank you
Enjoyed that one. Wow, what a lot of work to replace a belt! So how long did the entire job take you? It would take me a month to do all that LOL.😅 Oh, and c'mon man, get yourself one of the H-D primary fluid funnels.
Thank you for your kind words, glad you enjoyed it... the job in real time end to end is about 14hrs for me and that includes filming it, I believe the dealerships quote 9hrs for the job, but they do it every day and they're not filming!! And yes, on the funnel, it's on the tool list along with everything else, you know how it is lol. Thanks again for your support, take care and great Channel btw, subbed!
Awesome job brother ! That nuts was really in there, I felt bad when it didn't move with the air gun . What a pain but you managed to get it out !!! Great work brother ! Stay safe guys cheers from New York !!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Evening Brother.. Yeah, didn't wanna budge, so we had a little fight with it, and i won..lol! Great to get it all buttoned up and back on the road.. Take care both of you and stay safe. D&Px
I noticed how you used zip ties to compress and hold the tensioner closed before you removed it. BTW, I think you must have done that job a few times. You didn't even have to look at the manual at any time.
Thanks mate, sadly I'm not that clever, I checked the manual throughout the procedure off camera to verify specs and torque settings... but for the most part, it's familiar work for sure.
Great video Del ! I bet the owner is so glad the bike is sorted and sorted by yourself as they know the job is being done properly this time mate ! Have a great weekend mate !
Nice job!I did that job a few years ago on my 02 but changed out the swingarm bearings as well. Swore at the Harley engineers many times. Was pulling the outer primary really that clean for you or did you edit out the oily mess that I’ve usually expirienced? Also, you scraped the outer cover sealing surface. Did someone use gasket maker in the past?
The bike had already been apart yes, and I'd already drained the oil, but I do believe that residue was a little old gasket material, it certainly felt like this was the first time the bike had been apart!
I guess at the factory then, they just stand a new belt on the floor & go from there - the bike itself becomes mere 'mechanical-cladding' for it's own 'Toothy-Twangset' final drive system. Given the hours & ramp-space involved, I suspect most main-dealer prices for a swap-job could well 'refer you to your mortgage provider' - if they've 'the time' to do it in the first place! Once invented, 'The Acme Snap'n'Grab belt-splicing kit', should make some serious dosh! : )xx
Hi Penny and Del - great video! Criminy - what an extraordinary pain in the ass that job is - I think I am starting to understand why you converted your other Harley project to chain drive! Nevertheless, you have tackled the job with your usual skill and aplomb... well done! Take care, dear friends. Ride safe, be well!
Thank you so much buddy, it was a long day but rewarding to get it done at the end, and happy to see it out on the road again.. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and stay safe too... D&Px
Awesome. Just a man and his garage. Concise but detailed with no fluff and endless jabber.
Thanks.
Glad you liked it Doug, Stay safe buddy.
Great to see that bike all built back up, no doubt the owner is glad to have it back.
Well done.
I enjoy watching your videos. Learn something new from each of them.
Excellent, D & P, enjoyed that from start to finish and glad that you got to be the one to fix that old girl! Oh, and now the lift is freed up!!!🤘
It is indeed buddy, time for the next one! Enjoy your weekend there and keep warm! D&Px
Also I appreciate the camera work, it is refreshing to she someone that knows what it should look at the other end.
Thanks mate, am glad you enjoyed it and thanks for your feedback!
Impressive work Del.....I raise my beer glass to you....Good video!
Thank you kindly !
Been great to watch this series on the Harley Davidson servicing and makeover. You would make an excelent teacher at any college in that everything you do is interesting to watch. Thanks for all your videos Dell, much appreciated. Vinny. 👍
Thank you very much for your kind words of support and encouragement!
I like it more when you explain things as you go, but I'm slow, so I need the extra , but wow that was a fine vid!
Very nice. Thank you.
I love the editing of this video.
Some things just don't need to be verbalized.
Preventative maintenance is what keeps a vehicle safe and dependable.

Great video! I like how you just did the work and edited it. Went well with my morning coffee!
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it!
Talk about being glad about owning Sportsters. They are a dream to work on compared to this nice job Dell
Yes as a strange twist, Sportster belt change is even easier than a chain and sprockets! I don't think the designers like the mechanics very much lol
Great video Del, I remember the heavy torque on those primary drive components. Nice work , cheers!
Thanks mate 👍, glad you enjoyed!
great work del first class camera work spot on well done both and thank you
Glad you enjoyed it Allan, thanks!
Great work as always mate! Good to see this matter was finally resolved to get the bike back on the road 👍
Sure is mate, it's a great relief to the owner to have his bike back!
HD always amazes me: All the parts look huge and heavy. But since they've been in business for the last 120 years, they must be right ;-) Good that the story with this particular bike has come to a good end. Enjoy your weekend, Günter/Nürnberg

Great video Del, I'm glad it was all sorted out in the end but seeing all that made me appreciate my chain and sprockets even more.

Sure thing mate it's a good job that they last a lot longer than chains, you wouldn't want to be doing this every few years! Thank you for your kind words, enjoy your weekend there!
Ahhhh. Soul soothing, that was, thanks man. 🙂 I really like the paint scheme on that one for some reason, as well.
Thanks buddy, we're glad you enjoyed it... and thank you so much for your constant support!

dont kid yourself?
Finally back on the road! I bet you’re glad to have the space back and the owner can finally ride 😀 hope you both enjoy the weekend.
Yes to both of those buddy, you enjoy the weekend too and take care of everyone! D&Px
Great to see that lovely bike fixed
Awesome job Del as usual, could use having you close by when I do my service on my 2013 Electra Glide....Cheers Danny//
Hats off to you mate , big job well done 👏🏻
Thanks Tony, it was a long day for us both and glad to get it done! Hope you're both well, D&Px
Fantastic, love the attention to detail.
Many thanks!
Excellent tutorial!!!
Nice job! Love how everything going back on is clean, showing pride in your work. Wish you were close to work on my TriGlide.
Thank you kindly Rich, i appreciate the feedback, and id love a chance to work on a TriGlide, they look awesome..
Having seen a mate here spend thousands on his Evo, to then spend it all again to fix it properly, i absorbed every second of this! Well done Del
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Great video and a perfect pace. I'm just surprised you didn't replace the old compensator; they are a known point of trouble. Mine failed completely and I had to install the "screaming eagle" version to keep it from doing so again.
Thanks mate👍, not my bike and not my decision, i just carried out what the owner wanted and was prepared to pay for !
Right pain of a job.
But you don’t do it often
@@wobblysauce yes you do, when you break the belt?
Love your attention for detail. Too bad you don't find alot of mechanics like you. Wish that was only a 20 minute job. LOL
I just got this video I echo what Doug said, nice job!
Love your edits Del and Penny really professional looking, the look and feel of a proper television production.
Only thing is I have forgotten the purpose of the hairdryer. I haven't used one in years 😅
Great video as always x
Ha ha, i guess as an item like that becomes less use at home we can repurpose it for better things..lol! Thank you for your kind words of support and encouragement as always brother.. stay safe and God bless..D&Px
My 99 roadking has an aftermarket rear wheel and I believe it doesn't have any cush washers shown @ 9:48. Will this cause me any problems? Thanks good video
Nice to see this one finished Del great job
Thanks Gerard !
Excellent Job in showing all the stages that's needed. I was just wanting know how much the job would cost me if I had a go at doing it my self on flstn 08.
A well done job and the rear tire work is more involved then my Dyna.I like the primary card board template for the bolts .
Thanks buddy 👍, you're right these bikes are pretty involved!
Great work Del 🎉🎉
Cheers buddy!!
Well done Del👍
That looked like a hell of a task 😮
Thanks Paul, was a long day for sure, but great to get it done!
Excellent video! You da man!
The sheer size and weight of the parts on those bikes is certainly something to behold. Each component you touched looks half the size of the engine on my bikes. Have a great weekend
Sure thing buddy, not for no reason does H-D also stand for heavy duty! Have a great weekend, D&Px
“Agricultural” is the term I believe 😂. Seriously though, your attention to detail is just something else.
@@eamonsaunders8741 Thank you, it pays off in the long run, even though it takes a bit longer.
Super video
Very soothing to listen to.
Thank you Jason, glad you enjoyed it.
Great job mate, I bet your mate is glad it's finally sorted...
Yes indeed, happy to be back on the road and enjoying the bike.
You did a great job Del and made a helpful and interesting video thanks 👍
Thank you mate. Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic work quality, thank you for sharing your work.
Many thanks, appreciate your feedback!

Certainly is mate, I hear tales of up to £1k inc. parts!
I may be changing out my belt on 1993 ultra classic tour glide, thanks for the informative how to video. 😊
Glad it was helpful, and thank you for your feedback!
That was fun to watch. You are a master!

You are welcome!
It's good to see that it all worked out in the end. Now your shop has some more elbow room!
Sure does buddy, and great to reach a conclusion with it!
Would love to have a list of the tools you used to do this job. Might have to do mine soon.
Any regular tool kit will have pretty much everything you need, plus a couple of small jacks to support the back of the gearbox and the frame.... the one main item you probably wont have is the long reach 2-1/4" socket to tighten the front sprocket nut..!
That was fantastic thank you
Very welcome
Forgive me for being an armchair mechanic, but was the snap ring at 16:20 fully seated? From the 3 o'clock to the 6 o'clock position it doesn't look like its in the groove.
Yes, fully in the groove, it just does have a little movement and doesn't press firmly on the outside of the groove, but it does sit well within it.
Buongiorno il dado della puleggia va tirato a 80 nm.? Il dado si stringe normale alla destra? Grazie buona giornata
whow! Del some job, great work, bet it was expensive, think I stick with my T100 thanks.
Yes indeed, lots of labour and lots of parts!
Great video! My swing arm did not go in that easy though. Although, I have a 2018 Road glide. Maybe a little different.
What is the spec for the belt tension and was the rear wheel aligned?
Belt tension on these is by "Snail Cam" system, so it self aligns with a twist of the axle shaft...all shown in the video !

All listed in your service manual mate, under Critical Fasteners !
Lovely job...
Great job Del👌👌👌
Thanks Gerry, good to hear from you!
Wonderful video no obnoxious talk where it shouldn't be
That`s one hell of a lot of work to change it all, you don`t have to do all that to change the chain and sprockets on most other bikes. No wonder it costs a fortune to do.
great video.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
good job sar
Your videos are so valuable. I have a Softail M8. On the swing arm there is an opening closed by 2 bolts. I thought it was to made to make it easier to change the belt but apparently you still have to drop the swing arm. I wonder what is the purpose of that? Cheers
Hi buddy, I've got a Softail M8 too and I've not taken a close look at that, not sure what it'd be for... now you've got me thinking!
La recette infaillible pour un bon film: un bon scénar et une bonne réalisation.

BEAU TRAVAIL j'adore 😍👍
How many miles on that belt before it needed a swap?
Hello, I congratulate you, it seems to me that you do an excellent and detailed job, it would help me if you could tell us the torque that you apply to each nut and screws or you would help us to know where we can get the torques that each part carries, thank you

Can I know what the company of belt?
It's aftermarket?
Genuine Harley Davidson Belt.

I wanted to ask if your new belt came in a kit with the outer primary cover gasket and the inner primary to engine gasket?
No, not a kit, all parts bought separately!
Blimey, thats a lot of stuff to be removed/replaced along with the belt, that'll not be cheap 😮
Not cheap indeed... i've bought half decent bikes for the cost of this parts bill..!
From Harley Davidson the outer primary gasket is £43 that will give you some idea 😩

: )xx
The lyrical gangsta as always, nowt like a Toothy Twangset, not to be confused with Nana's Suspenders! D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 Ah, the old 'Cleated-Thong drive; robust, but a bit 'snatchy' in the wet : )

I hope in the end the warranty issues were resolved easily & to everyone's satisfaction?
Yes mate, all happy and concluded now !
Just great viewing, great way to spend a rainy Sunday morning👍
Thank you so much buddy, glad you enjoyed it.
Need to do this to my 07 Softy, just about to click over 100k, just a South Island trip to do first fingers crossed 🙂
Good luck with it mate, that's some impressive mileage... have fun with the job and safe travels to South Island!
D&Px
